Nice work Corey and Dogdancing! It would be great to have another multiplayer success.

A.

Btw. Does Dogdancing actually dog dance- as in the sport dog dancing?

Thanks Alesia! No, the name Dogdancing is her Indian name - she has a small amount of native American blood in her. And I agree, it would be great to have another multi-player success. I'm concerned about Sarevok though - Wewa didn't get very good HP rolls and unbuffed we would be forced to kite him, which is not how we fight. If we can bring enough invisibility potions with us though, that can change things as we can use them to re-buff - fully buffed our combined melee/ranged should be able to take down Sarevok regardless of his help.

As as for Lucky the Mage - he has made good progress. He's playing carefully (though still casting spells) and his team just took down the bandit camp. I'm not going to say the team destroyed it, but the team played carefully, prioritizing the top threats and the party came out on top.

The party is about level 6, entire map explored except Larswood and Pelvale, and Cloakwood our likely next target. Our cash is really bad still (3000 gold), hopefully that will change soon.

Carthusian (VIII) is stood over the corpse of Tranzig. Three venomous wounds are barely noticable.

Level 6, 38hp. 10 + 5 + 10 + 3 + 7 + 3. Average should be um something like 42.5 so not a good sign if he gets into Amn.

Hello everyone.

Seeing as how BG2:EE is comming out soon, I've decided to have another go at the no reload game.

This time around, I will be playing the notorious gnome Cleric/Illusionist Beckard Cutler:

And his bodyguard, the cunning Half-Orc Wizard Slayer Rylak Shaw:

Wish me luck!

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 28 - (update 1)
Focus, human totemic druid (Grond0) & Diffy, human invoker (Gate70)

With the fighter/druids falling early on in a session, we decided to roll up some new contenders immediately.  The character classes were chosen randomly from those we have not yet attempted, but should complement each other well.

The totemic druid is a power-house in BG1 and spirit summons have allowed the duo to make rapid progress so far.  After the normal opening of Shoal and tasks in Beregost the duo went straight to the basilisk area to try their luck there.  I wasn't confident that would be successful, but in fact a single summoned spirit wolf killed all the basilisks (and Mutamin into the bargain).

At that point Focus took his levels owing - going from 3rd to 6th level.  After resting, that meant he had two summons available to take on Kirian's party.  Given that Diffy blinded both Lindin & Baerin ahead of time and put down a stinking cloud as well, that fight could barely be called a contest.

The duo took a quick run down to Nashkel, rescued Samuel, helped Joia and have just stretched their wings a bit more by taking out the Red Wizards of Thay - not one of our normal no-reload targets.

Image IPB
Image IPB

Stats:
Focus, totemic druid 6, 39 HPs, 5 kills
Diffy, invoker 5, 22 HPs, 8 kills, 0 deaths
So Diffy has taken an early narrow lead in kills, although neither character appear to have caused that much mayhem - I wonder who has claimed all the missing kills?

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 28 - (update 2)
Focus, human totemic druid (Grond0) & Diffy, human invoker (Gate70)

The duo made more rapid progress last night with totemic summons leading the way much of the time.  Bassilus, Zargal, sirenes, golems and the Doomsayer were all victims, while Ardrouine, Melicamp and Charleston Nib received a helping hand.

On to the Nashkel mine where some of the kobolds were actually mown down by darts - radically increasing the duo's kill records!  Mulahey didn't get close enough to talk, while Nimbul, Neira and Tranzig all failed to make an impression before the duo returned to the back entrance of the mine to take out the amazons (they didn't do so before as little inventory space was available).

Up to the bandit camp, which also proved easy.  Taugosz was actually able to hurt the summons with his magic weapon, but he was blinded and would have found it difficult to hit a barn door.

Stats:
Focus, totemic druid 7, 44 HPs, 32 kills
Diffy, invoker 6, 27 HPs, 20 kills, 0 deaths

Looks good guys, keep it up! Though I wonder what will happen to your duo if you get to a situation where your summons can't cut it...don't see a tank in your group.

Lucky the Wild Mage Update - Chapter 4

Lucky decided that his team needed to follow up on the leads they found in the bandit camp, so they pressed into the Cloakwood. Instead of Cloakwood, the forest should be named the Wood of Death - many party members died during this portion, many party members died multiple times - only Lucky and Khalid escaped death.

One particular ambush was heart-breaking. Minsc got killed by scorchers by Lucky and Dynaheir, and without him the ambush quickly deteriorated. When all was said and done, 1/2 the party lay dead.
Image IPB

There were a couple of big problems as a result. For one, it was impossible to loot all our equipment. The most important item we had to leave behind was the Ankheg Armor. The 2nd big problem was a result was that we didn't have funds to raise everyone. This ambush made it clear our party just doesn't deal enough damage. So we had the funds to raise Minsc and Dynhaheir, but Jaheira was permanently removed and Coran took her place. We immediately started to do better.

One problem though is the party had bought (and used most of such) ALL heal potions - yes, all the temples, Durlag's Merchant and also Ulgoth's Beard merchant. Getting chapter 4 done to get access to the heal potions in the City of the Gate will be an important objective for the team.

With Coran's help, the party stopped dying (mostly) and we were able to clear out the Cloakwood of enemies. Drassus was defeated with fireballs, skull traps, web, greater malison. Heirashan was defeated with emotion. Coran tried to solo Davaoern but he couldn't do it, so he pulled mr. evil mage to the party and the party mowed him down with his ogre berserker.

We sold our junk, bought Dynaheir her robe of the good arch magic, and have camped at Wyrm's Crossing - the great City of Baldur's Gate is our next destination.

Party Status:
Minsc: level 7 ranger, 54 HP, 479 kills, Greater Basilisk
Khalid: level 7 fighter, 75 HP, 288 kills, Davaeorn
Coran: level 5 fighter/level 6 thief, 42 HP, 58 kills, Lesser Basilisk
Imoen: level 8 thief, 46 HP, 267 kills, Greater Doppleganger
Lucky, level 7 wild mage, 44 HP, 135 kills, Greater Doppleganger
Dynaheir, level 7 invoker, 37 HP, 128 kills, Battle Horror

Totec - wild mage (update 1)

The next candidate stepping forward to see if he can create a perfect statue of himself is Totec.

Image IPB

As you can see, he wasn't a random roll.  In fact, it took me about 2 hours of rolling to get the desired total score of 91.  Normally that score would be relatively quick to achieve, but I rather frustratingly rolled 90 no less than 9 times before eventually hitting the targetImage IPB.

Totec's something of a wild mage's wild mage and won't be casting any spells other than through NRD or his special Bhaal powers.  That means he may struggle to get as far as Tlaloc.  However, if he does, I'm intending to allow him the use of wild mage cheese - such as stacked chaos shields which can guarantee NRD spells cast normally.

Following on from Tlaloc's run I've made Totec good in order to see whether it's possible to get summon planetar and summon dark planetar (after changing alignment in the hell trials).  Familiar cast invisibility 10' will make some things easier in the very early stages, though the lack of elemental protection and regeneration will be a problem later in the game.

Totec - wild mage (update 2)

Totec has successfully made it through Candlekeep after casting what will probably be his only spell in BG1.  He struck lucky there, with the spell casting normally at only the second attempt.

Totec - wild mage (update 3)

Totec and his familiar killed Xzar & Montaron, though without quasit regeneration that took a while - about 80 darts required.  Shoal was a rather more rewarding victim with just a further 49 needed.  In Beregost, killed Algernon (I don't intend to use his cloak, but wanted to lower reputation), placated Marl and helped Firebead.  I intended Totec to stay out of sight while the fairy dragon slowly ate Karlat alive, but a mis-click meant he got to talk - so Totec just ran away before returning invisibly to give Perdue his sword back.

Down to Nashkel to pick up some ankheg armour and talk to Noober.  The armour allowed the purchase of the wand of sleep.  A charge from that put down Mirianne's ogrillons, while standard darts recovered Zhurlong's boots from a hobgoblin (Totec hasn't tried to return these at the moment as Zhurlong wouldn't want to talk to him).  3 more wand charges were needed for Landrin's spiders.

Now at level 4, Totec picked up the wand of frost from the Nashkel Mine area and then set his sights on Firewine Bridge, but stopped off to help Hulrik on the way.  Two wand uses put all but one of the Xvarts down and he tried out his Bhaal LMD for the first time to deal with the last one - which it did, if not in the manner intended!
Image IPB

At Firewine, two frost blasts and a LMD took Meilum to near death, meaning not too many darts were needed to finish him off.  His bracers more than double Totec's effectiveness with darts so are very welcome.

On to the FAI, stopping off at a sleeping ogre on the way.  The Ring of Wizardry isn't any use to Totec in BG1, so was sold.  Tarnesh was savaged by the fairy dragon, while Landrin is another who will have to wait for his stuff until he's likely to be more kindly disposed to Totec.

Back at the Nashkel Carnival Oopah was darted and Vitiare & Zordral nibbled by the fairy dragon.  Totec bought the green scroll of protection from petrification, along with the necklace of missiles - so guess where he's going next.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 28 - (update 3)
Focus, human totemic druid (Grond0) & Diffy, human invoker (Gate70)

A quick session last night saw this pair through to the City.

After selling loot from the bandit camp they returned Landrin's goods and then travelled up to Ulgoth's Beard for some shopping - stopping off at the ankheg nest to give a couple of totemic summons a workout.

They sped through the Cloakwood - using summons to blast through enemies as necessary.  They had to survive numerous ambushes as a result of me mis-clicking on Ulgoth's Beard when almost at the mine.  However, eventually they arrived and web + stinking cloud proved a handful for Drasus & co: various direct damage spells along with a spirit bear meant none of them emerged.  Improved invisibility took them past Hareishan and down to Daveorn, where they eventually managed to rest.

Surprisingly, the battle horrors don't use magical weapons, so were helpless against summons.  Daveorn did a bit of damage with his spells, but not enough to kill either summons and they went on to finish off a mustard jelly.  After Diffy learned knock, the duo tried to rest again to be able to open the locked treasure chests, but that proved difficult as group after group of guards interrupted them.  After about 10 lots of those, improved invisibility ran out and the guards started attacking Focus.  Trying to collect them together, he got stuck in a corner, so used the ring of invisibility.  Diffy then distracted the guards before using a potion of invisibility - at which point the duo gave up on getting more treasure and just went to flood the mine.

Stats:
Focus, totemic druid 8, 49 HPs, 36 kills
Diffy, invoker 7, 32 HPs, 30 kills, 0 deaths

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-Player No-Reload - Chapter 5
Bannen - level 7 fighter/level 8 thief, controlled by CR
Wewa - level 8 berserker, controlled by Dog

The duo finally arrived at the City of Baldur's Gate. There weren't doing much here, being at their level caps and all and pretty decent cash (30,000 gold or so). Thus, what they did:

* picked up the free DEX tome - went to Bannen for his thieving skills
* Battled Razamith - with two dual-wielding dwarves whacking him, he died quickly - the +2 ring went to Bannen. The duo battled the rest of the tower without much problem, other than Wewa got slowed, so the duo waited a long time for it to wear off before engaging the ghasts. With Bannen being a thief, was no problem to loot the top of the tower. The INT tome went to Bannen for his lore.
* Wewa used a potion of magic protection, haste and enrage, while Bannen used a potion of magic blocking vs. Jardak's bulter - once again, with dual-wielding dwarves attacking, the mage didn't last long at all. Jardak did a little better, but still couldn't resist the duo's power - the helm of glory went to Wewa, since she actually has some CHA.
* Time to get the Helm of Balduran for Bannen and the +2 axe for Wewa - while buffs were still running we arrived at the Helm and Cloak - the helm was quickly obtained and equipped. Wewa did enrage and a frost giant potion, Bannen started the fight, and duo started their dual-wielding attacks. Some of the casters started casting at Bannen, so for safety Bannen a magic blocking potion. The Mountain Maulers didn't last long at all, was suprising how quickly they fell. Wewa appreciated having two magical melee weapons finally.
* We obtained the upgraded shield from the Priest of Tymora - but there a little problem doing this. Corey_Russell forgot there was a CHA check when talking to Tenya - so she gave us the body, but then some nearby priestesses went hostile! Fortunately the duo defended themselves well, although Wewa mis-clicked and went outside instead of helping - a priestess followed her so worked out in the end. The upgraded shield went to Wewa.
* Using potions of perception, thieving and dexterity, Bannen managed to up his pick-pocketing enough so that the duo could obtain the wisdom tome from the priest of Tymora without having to do the poison quest. Once again, Bannen got it for his lore.
* In Chapter 7 the duo will need to travel in the sewers, thus they cleared out the Ogre Mage and his carrion crawler buddies. Bannen used the greenstone amulet and free action ring, while Wewa used a free action potion and enrage - once again, with two dwarves dual-wielding the caster (the Ogre Mage in this case) fell quickly. Bannen quickly looted the nearby caches, including handing Wewa a body that over-burdened her. But the duo soon talked to the mage nearby who wanted a corpse - Dogdancing getting tired right about here, so we saved and ended the session here.

Wewa has a massive lead in kills, with nearly 800 and Bannen has almost 500. The Iron Throne will be the duo's next target...

Totec - wild mage (4th and final update)

At the basilisk area Totec had no trouble in killing the separated basilisks.  He then recruited Korax to deal with Mutamin.  Using the scroll of stinking cloud from that, in conjunction with Korax's paralysing attacks and ranged damage should have made Kirian's party easy, but that proved not to be the case ...

First, Kirian proved extremely resistant to paralysation, shrugging off 5 or 6 hits - that meant Lindin & Baerin were not attacked before they got to their feet.  Baerin had received quite a few darts and died in a necklace blast, but Lindin finished off Korax and started chasing Totec.  In itself that wouldn't have been a problem, but a pathfinding error took Totec back within sight of Peter and his rigid thinking took effect.  That would probably have been death in any case, but Totec made sure by running straight at a stone pillar and sticking there while he was being cut down by Lindin.

Sorry to hear that Grond0 - maybe you should have named your character Lucky II as Lucky is still alive...despite a few fireball/burst surges.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 28 - (4th and final update)
Focus, human totemic druid (Grond0) & Diffy, human invoker (Gate70)

Invoking the power of nature, this couple has successfully finished off BG1 with minimal problems.

In the City they collected the 3 tomes, along with the Helm and Cloak of Balduran and another Ring of Wizardry.  Summons would have been able to do those fights on their own, but adding in the possibility of web, stinking cloud, magic missile, insect plague etc and enemies had no chance.

After Diffy investigated the Iron Throne invisibly the duo were returned to Candlekeep.  The tombs there were looted using MGoI and knock, though that did cause a problem for Diffy.  He had to wait a bit to get past the phase spiders, due to them teleporting backwards and forwards between summons and Focus.  As a result his globe disappeared just as he opened the last tomb - having just cast knock so not able to prepare for the fireball.  Fortunately the trap only did 23 damage.  Focus also had a slight scare when he auto-attacked a teleporting spider and ran through the lightning trap - but avoided any bounces and wasn't hurt much.

Rather than meekly sneak out invisibly the duo assaulted Prat's party.  His opening spell was disrupted by attacking summons and the defenders never recovered their balance.  Diffy had memorised some protection against basilisks so Focus led an attack on those.  His nymphs did the real damage though - first one dominated basilisk petrified the other; then 2 nymphs simultaneously hit with cause serious wounds to finish off the survivor.

After collecting the last tome from Durlag's Tower the duo came back to the City.  First, Slythe failed to make much impression on a couple of spirit summons.  Then the dopplegangers at the Palace tried to cope with bears added to totemic summons as well as the normal supporting spells - they failed and both dukes survived.

Before moving on to the last rites, Diffy wanted to take a trip to the Cloudpeaks to pick up the Cloudkill scroll to give him something to cast at 5th level.  With that learned the duo moved through the maze into the Undercity.  The party there were disabled by web / stinking cloud and also struggled to do any damage to spirit summons - Diffy got to level 9 here.

Inside the temple Focus failed to move back quite quick enough after slinging Sarevok.  That resulted in Angelo chucking a remove magic at him, but he didn't take any other part in the battle.  Focus used a potion of invisibility to strand Sarevok at the edge of the temple, allowing Diffy to target him with a dispel magic to get rid of his speed.  Focus took a potion of magic shielding to allow him to tempt Sarevok into a web / stinking cloud combination and that worked wonderfully well.  Diffy's speciality prohibits him from using greater malison, but just doom on its own led to Sarevok failing his saving throw several times.  As a result he struggled to finish off a spirit bear, while being hit by 3 lots of insect plague and numerous magic missiles (Diffy only having 10 of his starting 20 left at the end of the battleImage IPB).  Sarevok did eventually kill the bear, but that was his final action - he gave up just as the stinking cloud evaporated.

Stats:
Focus, totemic druid 10, 54 HPs, 44 kills
Diffy, invoker 9, 40 HPs, 40 kills, 0 deaths

And grats Grond0/Gate70 on another successful MP run - hopefully Bannen and Wewa will following you shortly.

Lucky the Wild Mage - Chapter 5
Traveling with: Minsc, Khalid, Coran, Imoen, Dynaheir

Lucky and team have just defeated Naaman and his buddies at the Iron Throne HQ. Our strategy wasn't particularly deep, nor did we do a lot of buffs. We gave what little fire protection we had to Minsc and Minsc charged, while the rest of the team, using necklace of missiles (x3) and wands of fire (x2) threw in two rounds of fireballs. Only two bad guys survived this onslaught, then just melee/ranged fire finished the survivors. The team will soon be on their way to Candlekeep.

Maybe in the future.  For now I've taken your earlier advice and just renamed my start for Totec.

Felix (latin for fortunate) has had a good start.  He's followed essentially the same path as Totec, but has taken the time to gather a bit of additional equipment on the way - in particular a couple of potions of invisibility and the wand of monster summoning.  Those were done without fighting using invisibility from his familiar and moving to overlap storage containers with his icon before picking up contents from the inventory screen.

Felix has just taken revenge on Kirian for killing Totec.

Lucky the Wild Mage - Chapters 6 & 7

Lucky has negotiated his way past Chapters 6 and 7 is now getting through the maze to chase after Sarevok.
* Candlekeep Crypts pretty simple when having a thief with 100% locks/traps (Imoen)
* fireballs sorted out both the greater dopplegangers and Prat - the mages went invisible, then with a protection from magic scroll active, Khalid showed himself first - the mages fireballs then weakened the enemies enough the party could safely assist - success. The spiders and basilisks in the area were of no trouble.
* Cythandria sorted out with fireballs out of sight - we let her surrender, but our ranged people picked her off anyways before she could escape
* Concentrated attacks and magic missiles from mages took out Slythe - the party had no trouble with Krystin.
* Duchal Palace - number of summons from wands, Minsc and Khalid spread out to try to draw the dopplegangers' attention. To avoid a fireball surge hitting the dukes, Lucky did not cast any spells - Dynheir though did do a dispel magic which seemed to help - success!
* After getting what little we could afford, the party is pretty broke once more. The quest must continue though, will press into the thieves' maze next session...
