Turil survived the first step! He hit the theoretical level cap very early so the decision was made to basically dodge all the side quests in the city of Baldur's Gate.

Bandit Camp is no problem without SCS. Picked them off one by one and could duck into stealth easily because Turil wisely raided at nighttime.

Sailed through Cloakwood (had 83 stealth by the time he got there). Heavy use of necklace of missiles and lots of running away to HiS. Again, avoiding most encounters because Turil was rolling in cash and XP. (I have an BGT install with SCS so I might try that one next with the same character. This run has just been a little... easy... particularly without better calls for help.)

Daevorn was pretty simple - nailed him with necklace of missiles and arrows of biting. Led the horrors out of the level because arrows just can't take them down.

Zipped through chapters 5,6 and 7. Ignoring almost all quests will do that. Missed out on the STR tome though! (Just couldn't get the strength up to bash open the lock with potion of frost str and DUHM - need more than 23 apparently for that one)

Headed over to Sundries and bought out close to half their stock of det and dis arrows plus recharged neck of missiles. Slythe was easy, arrow of biting and hid in shadows (95% at this point) whilst the poison whittled him down. Rinse and repeat to finish him off totally.

Had to draw Krystin out with a blast from neck of miss but took down a poor courtesan at the same, knocking 10 off my rep (doesn't matter at this juncture). Arrow of dis and biting, too easy.

Duchal Palace made me a bit nervous but only because I know how things can go wrong. Liia didn't make it but Belt survived (oil of speed and arrows of piercing. Had to chase a doppleganger outside).

Dodged all encounters up till the final battle and even then all I did was draw Sarevok out, dispel him and peppered him with a lot of arrows. Tazok got in the way but he isn't scary. Semaj is so I decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Turil finished up lvl 8, with a buttload of cash and ammunition. All to disappear in the next part :'( But I think I'll drop the NR and just do a casual run. Not nearly familiar enough with BG2 to attempt a NR.

Turil, Elf, Archer
STR 18/90
DEX 20
CON 18
INT 9
WIS 14
CHA 18

Because he was insanely overpowered in vanilla-ish BGT I'll definitely have a go with SCS, and maybe throw him in a party.

PS: any strategies for taking an archer through BG2?

Well done PPP. An archer does enough ranged damage that it doesn't take long to make progress solo even in BG2. The main problem is the relatively poor saving throws, so it's a good idea to get equipment that provides immunities (like helm of charm protection). Add in a few potions from Roger for emergencies and you're ready for anything ...

You need minimum strength of 24 to bash the tomb to get the strength tome by the way.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 34 - (update 1)
Spiro, half-elf beastmaster (Grond0) & Schuern, elf enchanter (Gate70)

After an almost instant death in BG2 at the start of our session, there was plenty of time to roll up new characters (randomly selected from classes not used before) to start again.

This duo have made a reasonable start.  Just the one moment of concern when Spiro failed to deal quickly with Tarnesh and got scared away, but Schuen picked the mage off with her trusty sling.  Being a beastmaster I've tried to get Spiro to use his charm animal ability a few times.  This was the most successful where a polar bear killed an ogre berserker, while being taken itself to near death (it was then killed to get boots from the merchant).

Isis - halfling swashbuckler (update 1)

With my BGEE installation de-modded to play MP I've reverted to a basic BGT installation to see if I can get a swashbuckler all the way.

Isis had a scare early on when failing to pause after coming out of Landrin's house and getting trapped by some spiders.  She'd already used the antidote potion from Candlekeep when she found a critical to kill a blocking spider.

Things have been pretty straight-forward after that and she's just gone through the Nashkel mines.  I deliberately gave Mulahey a chance by allowing him to talk and summon his guards.  That resulted in Isis needing to use the potion of clarity from Candlekeep to protect against rigid thinking before she successfully hid and finished things off with a critical.

Isis - halfling swashbuckler (2nd and final update)

A bit of a struggle to concentrate ended at the Cloakwood Mine.  A potion of magic blocking had protected Isis from Daveorn's spells and he should have been easy meat.  However, he'd summoned an ogre berserker and Isis was running that round while trying to hide.  She'd failed several times and I obviously let him get a bit too close!

Velvet - halfling swashbuckler (update 1)

Just managed to waste several hours rolling this character up.  I was holding out for a score of 93 thinking that would allow stats to be maximised, forgetting that halflings have reduced wisdom as well as strength!

In line with the portrait I've given Velvet short sword proficiency, which is very rare for me.  Hopefully she'll get through to BG2 to get some nice options to make use of it.

Velvet - halfling swashbuckler (update 2)

Velvet has made a good start to her adventures.  She's at level 6 and just killed the basilisks. So far she's only used her crossbow, using stealth shots on occasion (such as with Mutamin).  So far she hasn't been attacked by anything or taken any damage.

Velvet - halfling swashbuckler (update 3)

Velvet has done most of the encounters she's intending to prior to the Nashkel mine.  In the process she's got her reputation up to 20 and bought the crossbow of speed, ring of invisibility, greenstone amulet and cloak of displacement.  She has though lost her no damage record when I didn't bother resting until night-time before taking on Kirian's party and had trouble getting into stealth as a result.  That meant Velvet ended up using a potion of invisibility when Peter started targeting her with a spell, while Baerin got a shot off at her when she turned to face him rather than running off the edge of the map.

She's just made her first use of traps - to persuade Dushai to give up her ring of free action.

Stats:
Velvet, swashbuckler 7, 40 HPs, 105 kills

Velvet - halfling swashbuckler (4th and final update)

My addiction to unnecessary risks proved Velvet's downfall in the pirate cave.  Rather than just safely shoot them to death I thought it would be more fitting for Velvet to sharpen her short sword on them.  With 2 of them dead and the final one badly injured I thought one more attack would finish the job and didn't back away after the attack as quickly as normal.  Velvet did indeed hit, but the golem clearly survived ... just as clearly he got an immediate critical hit in return.

Sorry to hear that Grond0 - at least it's not the basilisks petrifying. But yeah, with no critical hit protection, staying in melee range with those flesh golems is super risky...

Going for a new BG1 challenge with the EE. Haven't played it much (did Black Pits) basically because I don't have much interest in it before the NPC Project gets converted but I do want to meet the three new kids. Rolled a thief to take care of the traps and scouting ahead because I cannot be bothered worrying that much. Party will be Daphne, Dorn, Neera and Rashaad, playing on core.

Image IPB

Also had to bump up the framerate to 55, only realised now that I run BGT on 45 but I must've changed it ages ago because it came as quite the shock when I started playing this at 30.

Heh, didn't get very far. Picked up Neera and Rashaad, snuck past Tarnesh to activate the quest with Dorn, managed to do a few safe quests before heading to the carnival. I thought Zordral might be doable if they hit him hard and fast. Not quite fast enough - without anyway to resist fear the fight was over pretty quickly and left everyone in the party with grey portraits.

I'm going to roll up a cleric/thief this time. See if we have better luck.

Introducing Chloe, the first time I've played a gnome and the first time I've played a cleric/thief. But wow, why did I never think of it before? Staff makes a brilliant backstab weapon because you don't need to cuddle up to the victim to hit them. Sanctuary also makes the... acquisition of certain items under lock and key way simpler. How does it work with pickpocket?

PS sozzles about the character sheet, I forgot to grab the sceencap immediately so she has a bit of exp.

Again, a quick end. Straight out of Candekeep, I decided to head for the CON tome, with sanctuary it really should've been straight forward enough. First I decide to swing by Shoal for the levels and to make sure my find traps skill was up to par. Did the usual walk around to set up a kiting perimeter so I wouldn't run into any baddies as I fled Shoal's deadly embrace. But still not keyed into the way spawns work in EE. Nek minnut, dread wolf out of nowhere on one side, Shoal on the other. Went for the casting of Sanctuary knowing I couldn't outrun the wolf (they are significantly faster than in BGT). Just finished casting when Shoal piped up the conversation, insta death.

I think I'll see this character through, just to finish the damn game already.
-PPP

EDIT: Warning! You think you know all the traps in the game but they throw in a few surprises in EE. Ehk.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 34 - (update 2)
Spiro, half-elf beastmaster (Grond0) & Schuern, elf enchanter (Gate70)

This duo have had a couple of sessions since the last update.

The first saw the basilisks killed with the aid of a green scroll.  Mutamin was blinded, but Kirian & co left for now.  Schuern bought some scrolls at High Hedge.

The second included a trip to Ulgoth's Beard to take advantage of their reputation of 20.  With the green amulet to hand, the sirenes in the lighthouse area were taken on (much of the damage there being done by Schuern's newly learnt skull trap).  Two of the 3 flesh golems were shot with arrows of biting, but the 3rd remained hiding behind a trap which the duo decided not to risk.

Moving on to the Nashkel Mine, Mulahey was blinded and tried to give up - but without avail.  A couple of amazons were also blinded before the skull traps went in.  Nimbul was horrified to see us, but managed to hide his reaction well - regularly casting magic missiles despite his condition

There was a similar blinding strategy at the bandit camp where Venkt and Hakt were disabled before the real hostilities commenced.  That should have made things easy, but a pathfinding problem meant that Spiro passed by Venkt, allowing him to cast a horror spell that sent Spiro out of control.  Fortunately, Schuern was unaffected and, though Britik managed to pin her into a corner, a wand scorcher disposed of him.  A couple more got rid of Venkt before he could land more than one acid arrow on Spiro and he was able to gather his wits in time to join in the shooting at the helpless Hakt.

Stats:
Spiro, beastmaster 6, 67 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar), 122 kills
Jinga, enchanter 5, 23 HPs, 36 kills, 0 deaths

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 34 - (update 3)
Spiro, half-elf beastmaster (Grond0) & Schuern, elf enchanter (Gate70)

Today's session saw the duo through to the final hurdles, though at a cost of a couple of deaths.

Things started with a sneaky trip through the Cloakwood to the Mine.  The encounter with the party there seemed to start well when a couple of skull traps appeared to kill one of the mages.  Spiro then used the green amulet and occupied the fighters while Schuern used his wand of fire to kill Kysus.  Once the fighters were dead Spiro was reviewing his inventory while Schuern went to loot bodies - only to find Rezdan was still active!  That resulted in him being scared and Spiro was just too far away to get back in time to intervene.  Checking back on the log showed the earlier death was not a mage, but a squirrelImage IPB.

After a trip to the FAI temple the duo sneaked down to Daveorn.  A combination of skull traps and wand fireballs saw off the battle horrors, while Daveorn was finished off with arrows of biting and a scorcher.  After learning knock Schuern wanted to rest to loot the locked chests - took about 15 attempts, but that was finally done.

In the City the normal things were done - get the tomes and Helm & Cloak of Balduran.  Jalantha was a bit more difficult than she should have been as a result of our characters jumping around the screen - that caused Spiro to take damage from a wand scorcher, but Jalantha didn't survive to try another spell.  The confrontation with Marek produced the second death of the session when his first lightning bolt bounced straight through Schuern; his second went the same route, but she was already dead!

At Candlekeep a green scroll of protection from magic was a standard precaution for looting the tombs, but Spiro also used protection from poison to make the spiders easy.  After sneaking past the dopplegangers a combination of necklace fireballs and skull traps quickly killed everyone except Prat.  He went invisible, but appeared when Schuern started casting another area spell.  He got a lightning bolt off, but this time Schuern survived - unlike Prat himself.  Another green scroll was used on the basilisks before the duo made their way safely back to the City.

Stats:
Spiro, beastmaster 7, 81 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from Helm), 147 kills
Jinga, enchanter 7, 31 HPs, 50 kills, 2 deaths

Velvet {2} - halfling swashbuckler (update 1)
Early this morning I also restarted Velvet.  This time I'm determined to take no risksImage IPB and am aiming to avoid taking any damage in BG1.  So far she's not done much, just dealing with Shoal and moving on to Beregost where she's looted a potion of invisibility to help with potential archer ambushes.

Velvet {2} - halfling swashbuckler (update 2)

Thanks Serg.  Everything's gone to plan so far and Velvet has just arrived at the Nashkel Mine.

She started by moving down to Nashkel and stealing another invisibility potion from the manor house.  A further one was looted from the Carnival, where she used run & shoot on Oopah and stealth shots on Vitiare before buying the necklace of missiles and a protection from petrification scroll.  Yet another invisibility potion was found in the Valley of Tombs.

Heading north she used stealth shots to save Arabelle and run & shoot to get Meilum's bracers and an ogre's belt.  A single stealth shot panicked Tarnesh on her way into the inn to drop off Landrin's things and pick up some soiled pantaloons.

She then found a use for her green scroll at the basilisk area.  The separated basilisks were picked off with her crossbow before Korax was recruited to deal with Mutamin.  He also paralysed Kirian before dying - leaving Velvet with just the other 3 to manage.  Three necklace fireballs from the shadows killed 2 of them and Peter was finished with a couple of stealth shots.  They had another potion of invisibility - no archer ambushes yet, so her stock is up to 5 of them.

Stats:
Velvet, swashbuckler 7, 41 HPs, 58 kills

Velvet {2} - halfling swashbuckler (update 3)

I made my first mistake with Velvet, but it wasn't too costly and she's still on track.

Her opening move was to sneak through the Nashkel mine.  She mercilessly stealth-shot Mulahey without giving him any chance to talk. Outside, a necklace fireball softened up the amazons before switching to stealth shots to complete the job (with 140 in MS and 75 in HIS, re-stealthing is pretty easy at night-time with only very occasional failures).

She reported to the mayor before Nimbul became another victim unable to get a word in.  Tranzig found the same fate and Velvet moved on to the bandit camp.  In the main tent a potion of explosions stirred things up, but the opposition moved so that Velvet couldn't get out of sight of them again.  As a result she did quite a bit of work stealth-shooting bandits outside the tent to allow her to move freely in and out of the tent.  The fact that the bandits move around made that potentially tricky, but there were no mistakes there.  Taugosz was also stealth-shot before being finished off with Velvet's first use of LMD.  She then popped in and out of the tent stealth-shooting Raemon & Hakt.  A first mistake was then made - she now had the ability to hide inside the tent, so of course I forgot to restealth on entry and and Venkt spotted her and cast a horror.  To maintain my record of not giving any chance of Velvet being affected by a spell she used a potion of magic blocking before completing the job on the mage with a critical.

Despite struggling to move under the burden of Taugosz's armour she made it to High Hedge to sell things.  She then improved her melee options by grabbing swords from Greywolf and Zargal.  While in the latter area she also took on Bassilus.  The undead died as intended, which gave her plenty of time to restealth without even the need for an invisibility potion and, somewhat surprisingly, she has arrived in the Cloakwood still without using any of those.

Stats:
Velvet, swashbuckler 7, 41 HPs, 88 kills

Velvet {2} - halfling swashbuckler (update 4)

I made one further mistake resulting in Velvet using her first potion of invisibility, but she's still looking good and has reached the City.

She sneaked through the Cloakwood.  The only potential problem was the web traps in the spider area, but she was able to use the persistence of stealth to hide, detect and disarm them safely.  At the mine Velvet turned the party hostile with an oil of fiery burning before trying her luck with a first use of Bhaal horror.  That proved unexpectedly successful with everyone starting to run.  Both mages were killed while scared before Velvet hunted down the others.  She got to level 8 with Genthore's death, but then I made another error with Drasus.  His speed means stealth-shooting needs to be done perfectly and at one point I triple-tapped rather than double-tapped the space bar allowing him too close to hide.  Velvet had to use her first potion of invisibility to avoid combat there.  Once he was at near death she made use of a potion of firebreath to administer the coup de grace.

After sneaking down to Daveorn's level she made use of her new short sword for the first time by playing hide and seek around the partition wall with the guard.  The traps were disarmed and Velvet spent a while working her way through Daveorn's mirror images until she found a soft spot.  The mustard jelly was killed with Greywolf's sword - Velvet always staying near a corner to prevent it targeting her with missile fire.  She used a potion of master thievery to be able to open all the chests before flooding the mine and leaving; she also rested before doing that in order to get a second Bhaal horror.

Before going to the City she did a number of the reputation quests to quickly get that up to 20.  A number of other encounters included  stealth-stabs on a couple of battle horrors on the way to Durlag's Tower (potion of clarity protecting against the charm trap on the tome there) and the same for the flesh golems in the pirate cave (didn't bother with the sirenes).  With maximum reputation and almost 100k gold to spend Velvet bought the crossbow of speed (+ magic ammunition) and the Claw of Kazgoroth.

On the way up to Ulgoth's Beard she stealthed in to loot an ankheg nest and provided Tenya with some revenge on the fishermen.  She bought the ring of invisibility, green amulet and cloak of displacement, but didn't bother killing Dushai for his ring.

Stats:
Velvet, swashbuckler 9, 56 HPs, 137 kills

A long gap, but Carthusian the monk is back in BGT. Think it is 9 and will go with that but could be mistaken, what I could find is below.

1 Basilisk ambush.
2 Gaius in SoA.
3 The Ravager in Pocket Plane. So near... and yet...
4 Basilisk ambush (doh).
5 Tranzig.
6 Can't see anything, may have skipped a number. Between pages 357 and 367 I guess.
7 Carrion crawlers near Mad Arcand.
8 Greater doppelgangers at the duchal palace.

Realised I still had Phylidia's book after leaving Candlekeep. Oops.
