Davaeorn and the Battlehorrors were dealt with mainly with the wand of frost plus summoned monsters. After killing Davaeorn he ran away to buff up so that the horrors would not do too much injury.

Dragoon, a half-orc fighter/cleric. He's dual wielding maces. EE has a much needed new +1 mace with a 25% chance to stun for 1d4 rounds, which happens to pair nicely with dual wielding.
I didn't realize this until I was in the process of selecting initial spells for him but the command: sleep is an amazing spell in the early game, especially with dual wield. Since all attacks hit during that round, it negates the disadvantage of the -4 to the off hand. The trick is to get close enough to the target that there's time to get in two hits before it wakes up again...Hello sanctuary! And if it doesn't go down in the first round, just cast another with no risk of damage.
'Course it becomes less useful once enemies reach L6 and can make a saving throw, but doom helps there.

Dragoon is doing fine. He's looking forward to getting the tome of constitution for natural regeneration. In the fight with the cleric assassin at Nashkel he fired a doom as soon as he walked in the door, but it took so long to cast that the cleric had time to walk all the way to him, AND cast rigid thinking, before it went off. He ducked through the door but it got him just before he left, so he was outside, and puzzled. Fortunately no soldiers were nearby. He immediately attacked an innocent bystander, killed him for -5 Rep, and then, hilariously, Rassad attacked him. They went off into a corner and Rassad was smited and nothing worse happened. The cleric was then executed with command: sleep, and Dragoon set off in a quest to restore his tarnished reputation.
Ran into a few more EE bugs. There's an encounter that happens between Nashkel and the mines if you've talked to Dorn in the FAI. Initially Dragoon wasn't at a high enough level to fight, so he sanctuaried away and watched to see how Dorn did. Dorn failed to hit anything after multiple rounds, so Dragoon walked away. A few days and levels later, he returned, and was ambushed by 6 hobgoblin archers. And there was Dorn, fully healed now, still fighting the bandits! Weird. Didn't want to have to deal with perhaps yet another stacked ambush later on, so he waded through the archers and then helped Dorn to victory.
In another bug, when Dragoon assaulted the Xvart fortress (I miss the SCS version with 100s of xvarts), and Nexlit cried for Ursa's help, Ursa appeared and hilariously went straight for Nexlit, ignoring my mace attacks while she ravaged the hapless Xvart leader.

Whilst we are currently in the same place, we will probably now diverge as I have DSoSC installed and will have to go and find Jet Laya’s sister and then kill a dragon. All the best.
After picking up Jet, we paid Shoal a visit. We had an unusual occurrence. Used "Command" on the mage [Droth?]. He saved, and Shoal was put to sleep. Killed the mage and then killed Shoal. This has never happened to me before.
Have now dropped off Yeslick as two clerics is more than enough. I only had him in the party as a porter!
FINAL EDIT
Jet' Laya's sister had been turned into a Banshee and she killed me using death magic!
Must remember to memorise "Death Ward" before meeting her again!

I passed thru South Beregost Road where I killed a couple of Ogrillons before running into three Flaming Fist Mercenaries who accused us of being bandits. Trying to lay low, I avoided the fight & talked my way out of trouble. On the North Nashkel Road, I got into a tussle w/a band of Hobgoblin’s & the battle got a little tougher when a panicked Kagain wandered into a small group of bandit’s that joined the fight from the south. I finally cut all the Hobgoblins & bandits down w/a little effort from my servants & collected up their valuables. Before I made Nashkel I had to fight off four more bandits. I’m collecting bandit scalps as a hobby now. In Nashkel I had to raise Montaron @ the Temple of Helm b/c he’d gone & gotten himself bit by a mosquito or something. I looked around Nashkel, hit the Belching Dragon & added another mage, this one a Conjurer named Edwin. I might have to kick the snot out of him but I like the idea of two wizards pelting my enemies w/offensive spells while I wade into melee. So, I’ve rounded out w/my assassin, a bard (my herald), two wizards (my arcane combo) & Kagain, my lieutenant. I like this mix but I need a cleric. If I can find a good one, the herald might have to find work elsewhere or share time w/my priest.
http://imagizer.imag...0q90/33/zaf.bmp
Key Event: Timing was everything, b/c as soon as I added the Edwin, I headed for the Nashkel Inn where I was promptly attacked by a female assassin, a Cleric type. I took the fight out into the street, lest someone standing nearby be injured & my reputation take the blame. Kagain closed to melee w/her when she came into the street while Xzar cast Chill Touch & moved it to grasp her. The assassin used an Entangle spell & it ‘tied up’ my efforts significantly & the she beat my henchman w/her club @ close range. She ended up killing Montaron, Xzar & eventually, Kagain. More gold to get these bumblers raised. Edwin cast Grease so that when her spell wore off she’d still be immovable & Eldoth could pepper her w/arrows. When his spell finally wore off, I closed in w/Eldoth & Edwin (who was out of spells) & beat her to death.
Treasure of Note: Helm of Infravision (sold); gems/jewelry (sold)
Current Disposition: Nashkel Inn
Next Steps: I have three tasks in mind; 1) investigate the Nashkel Mines, 2) Kill Edwin’s witch, 3) find Eldoth’s ‘lover’ get the ransom he thinks she’ll bring (oh & make her mine if she looks good).
Level Up: My diabolical benefactor in Baator promoted me to Miscreant (Anti-Paladin/2) & granted me the use of Aura of Despair once per day; strangely I also received Larloch’s Minor Drain from another source. While useful, I don’t know from whence this power comes. Montaron became a Rutterkin (Assassin/2) & added 15% to his Find Traps ability.
Current Party: (Reputation: 5 - Disliked)
Front-de-Boeuf, Ftr (A-Pdn)/2: Pl/Mail w/Flail** (SWS**)

When Zemtan got to the big city, there was very little he wanted to:
1) Reputation quests - Zemtan carelessly threw a fireball at a gibberlings in Bassilus country, forgetting there was a messenger there and lost 10 reputation. He's been clawing back up ever since. But doing reputation quests in the big city was harder than it sounds, because of Zemtan's CHA 3 a lot of quest givers didn't want to give him the quest!
2) Get all the tomes:
2a) INT tome - obtained thru two invisibilities - no fighting required
2b) DEX tome - was picked up out of a barrel
2c) WIS tome - well getting it was no problem - but bringing back to the Water Queen's Temple sure was. Remember that 3 CHA? Well when we asked Tenya for the boy's body, nearby priestesses went hostile! So when we returned to get the geas scroll (wanted eagle bow) from Jalantha, we got some hold persons sent out way! But Zemtan escaped in time...
3) Getting the +2 Axe - this meant fighting the mountain maulers. Zemtan had some summons but still took a beating - good thing he ran a bit and blinded the leader. The helm of balduran was NOT obtained - Zemtan felt the helm of defense was more important since he doesn't have the HP of a true fighter, and thus can't absorb the fireballs as well.
4) Dealing with the Iron Throne 5th floor - nothing unusual here, pro magic scroll, a few potions and lots of arrows of detonation...
In Candlekeep, little was done here, except tomes again, fighting spiders, get Bhaal power and being blamed for killing the Iron Throne leaders (which Zemtan didn't). Zemtan then went invisible out of the crypts.
The 3 encounters in chapter 7 were dealt with via the same buffs - his axes tore up Slythe, the dopplegangers, but had to use arrows on Cythandria.
Once again, Zemtan went invisible through the maze, past the Undercity Party, and straight to Sarevok.
Plan for Sarevok:
Well, if wanted to cast spells I needed to not use my full plate, which also meant no tanking then. I summoned lots of fodder via wand and got to work. When Zemtan fired at Sarevok, everyone came. Angelo wasted the summons quickly, so Zemtan had to go invisible. Zemtan refreshed his summons and went invisible when the summons were about dead once more - finally Sarevok had enough and killed Angelo - thanks Sarevok!
More running around to the dais, refresh summons via wand and burn down Tazok and Semaj with arrows - Sarevok getting real close now, time to go invisible again (via spell). Refresh wad of summons once more sic them toward Sarevok and use +2 arrows. I put haste on the summons and Zemtan (Zemtan didn't bring any haste potions with him) - Zemtan finally dispelled Sarevok's haste as well (with arrows) - little bit later - success!

Zemtan will be solo in BG 2 as well. He might let PCs join to do their quests or to help with something Zemtan can't do himself, but the chapter events will be done by Zemtan alone.

I had a quick attempt with a dwarven kensai this morning. He looked all set for a successful run, but died of the assassin's poison while repeatedly resting in an inn (he had recently acquired the Claw of Kazgoroth, so wasn't regenerating, and I hadn't realised the poison quest was still active). I thought that I had talked to Marek before killing him, but I'm not certain enough of that to call the death a bug. Instead I'll give the same character another chance from Candlekeep.

The second attempt with Chrys is off to a good start. I've set this kensai up to be as easy as possible - dwarf with axe specialisation.
He got a couple of levels from Shoal, another with tasks in Beregost and 2 more in finishing off a bunch of basilisks - taking just a couple of scratches in return so far. I expected to have to use the necklace of missiles on Lindin's party, but Korax performed surprisingly well there and managed to paralyse the lot of them.
The first version of Chrys had HPs a bit below average, but this one's slightly above - let's hope that trend continues.

Thanks Grond0! I hope I can too, but it's so tough with so few spell slots, and if I get ambushed when spells are spent, I could be dead. This kind of thing even happened to Alesia, so it can happen to the best of us. With the paladins, it was very was very easy to speed through so many encounters, as I knew exactly what I needed to do with them. For Zemtan, I think the harder things I going to have to figure out is when to wear my full plate and when not to.

I would use him as a fighter who can use wands and scrolls. That is, keep your armour on except for when you are wanting to buff PRIOR to combat. Haste etc. There are a number of situations when you know even from a role playing standpoint that there will be an enemy the other side of a door.

Mulahey and Nimbul were axed down before they could talk. The amazons all died in 2 necklace fireballs. Tranzig was axed down from the stairs. At the bandit camp Taugosz was also axed (then had to get a resupply of throwing axes). On my return I cocked up the entrance - unpausing when I intended to pause - and Chrys briefly got surrounded. He had to take a potion of magic blocking to survive after hacking a way past Raemon. I'm not allowing healing potions so Chrys rested before coming back to finish the others off.
He cleared the ankheg nest, then moved on to Ulgoth's Beard to get Dushai's ring of free action. That allowed him to run through the Cloakwood, just stopping briefly to get the potion of invulnerability from Laskal. At the mine the mages were fried in fireballs and Genthore fell to throwing axes. Chrys was in danger of losing a melee combat with Drasus, so ran away before returning to try again.
Chrys worked down through the guards, successfully bypassing Hareishan without her being alerted by the nearby guards. However, after killing the battle horrors with fireballs, he tried to rest invisibly about 8 or 9 times, but without success and eventually was forced to go through the trapped corridor. I was hoping to avoid the last trap entirely, but thought I would have time to see it coming and take a potion of magic blocking if necessary (didn't want to take it if not as it would cancel invisibility and a number of guards would notice). However, there didn't appear to be any warning and Chrys expired.

After dallying with other classes for a while I thought I would have another go at taking a swashie all the way. The initial objective for him will be to try and get through BG1 without taking any damage.
Vail made a start with Shoal and some run and shoot tasks in Beregost and the road south. He's picked up an invisibility potion from the Manor House in Beregost and 2 more from the Mayor's house in Nashkel and the potion seller at the Carnival.

I might take Dragoon a little further anyway. I want to test how far I can get in Durlag's Tower. Would like that extra Tome of Wisdom and particularly the 0 AC armor on the first dungeon level.
Starting a new run: a real challenge this time. Dostoevsky, an elven sorceror.

With only five spell picks and plenty of good choices in L1, I decided to forgo the shield spell. This leaves him very vulnerable, but my strategy is to acquire the robe of the good archmagi as soon as possible. So he picked blind and identify for his first two spell picks, allowing him not to waste any cash on IDing things before selling them.
With the boots and belt of avoidance, he'll be well protected from missiles, which if I play right should be the only threat. The one thing he'll miss is protection from magic missiles, but Mirror Image will have to suffice.
I still have a dilemma though: with blind, MM, and Identify, that leaves him eventually 2 picks from PfE, Spook, and Chromatic Orb. I'm leaning toward Spook and PfE just because they're stronger defensively.
