They never could, they can't even wear studded leather. Anyway, GL&HF.
That's what the kit description says, but on the internet I found many sources saying that Avengers can use ankheg plate (but not studded leather).
And... thanks!

@ Grong0 - I figured it out, I can now do pictures, thank you very much.
Grith'atzu - Chaotic Evil Blackguard - Final Update
I left Candlekeep and went back to BG, the guards were constantly running after me, but I didn't let them arrest me. I killed the greater dopp that was at the bedside of the Duke, and took the Duke to the Harbor Master. I then took the path of the sewers and down into the underceller I went, I added a preemptive poison to my crossbolt of Lightning and as Slythe was charging at me, I opened fire, and when he got close I just swung away. He got chunked after about a round. Krysten was done with just running up and slicing her with my blade (which was poisoned, I grabbed the invitations and headed towards the Palace after resting. I began initial combat after they shape shifting with a Bhaal Horror, then shot bolts of Lightning which were poisoned at the three around Belt. Belt survived but the female died, which was acceptable to start the script where Sarevok attacks. Shortly after, Sarevok fled to the Thieves Guild which I received a teleport there as well.
Underneath the Thieves Guild, I cheeseballed it out with an Invisibility potion with Absorbtion potion and bypassed all the monsters. The lightning traps were of no real scare (not sure why this is the first time ever doing this, i can be really dumb some times lol). I passed by unseen to the ambush party before hitting the gates of the temple.
Sarevok proved a whole lot simple than I anticipated. I began the battle with drinking a potion of : speed, heroism, power, storm giant, magic protection, clarity, invulnerability. I then begin battle by luring out Sarevok by throwing fireball potions at Sarevok's party. Only Semjai and Sarevok (like always) went after me. I kept running to the southwest of the temple turning around to shot Sarevok with bolts of biting with my poison applied. I ran around the pillars turning and shooting Sarevok. With the boots of speed and a potion of speed you can run light years around Sarevok, even if he is Hasted. Semjai quit trying to follow me, so I kept doing this cheese tactic, when I got Sarevok down to "badly injured" I equipped my two handed sword and casted the Aura of Despair. Sarevok really doesn't miss a swing, but I got him to "near death" and his dying script began!
Grith'atzu - Chaotic Evil Human Blackguard now enters SoA
congratulations, Mr_Goldbeard - good luck in SoA.
Congrats Mr_Goldbeard! Keep up the good work ![]()

Aya had little difficulty dispatching Mutamin and his pet basilisks for Keldath. First she used a scroll of Protection from Petrifcation she had bought at the Nashkel Carnival to prevent the beasts' petrifying gazes from harming her. Then she proceeded to slay the more isolated basilisks, initially with her darts but when she noticed that her ranged attacks did minimal damage, she switched to her quarterstaff and engaged the creatures in melee (hit and run). She saved Mutamin and his two closest basilisks for last and relied on Korax the ghoul for help. Korax got baldy injured by one the remaining basilisks, but most importantly he managed to hold Mutamin. This made killing the wizard a lot easier for Aya. On his body she found not one but two mages robes: a Robe of the Good Archmagi and an Adventurer's Robe. She took down the remaining basilisks and returned to Beregost, where she rested. The expedition had Aya level up twice, up to level 7. This gave her access to Improved Invisibility amongst other spells.
She then travelled further westward, to the High Hedge area and south of it. Aya remembered having seen many undead in those areas, which according to her could have been an indication of Bassilus' presence. She was not mistaken. She found Bassilus surrounded by zombies and skeletons all under his control. Before speaking to him, Aya cast Barkskin on herself (her only protection for lack of any physical armor). When she spoke to the priest, he refused to return willingly to Beregost with Aya. Careful not to underestimate her foe, she cast Improved Invisibility on herself which prevented Bassilus from casting any (non-AoE) spells on her. He stood there quite helpless until Aya cast Summon Insects on him. This prompted him to move toward her and try to take her on in melee combat. However one of two Chromatic Orbs she cast, stunned the cleric. His excellent health made him outlast through Aya's insects, but before the stun effect would wear off, she slew the cleric with a Lightning Bolt. The bolt reflected back to her but a deft reflex prevented Aya from suffering any damage.

Having dealt with Bassilus and his undead, Aya explored the area a bit further until she was greeted by three hobgoblin bandits who demanded her money or her life. She opted for an alternative to those two options: three casts of Web, at different moments in the battle, allowed her to slay the three bandits as well as a human bandit and a ghoul that had come to the hobgoblins' aid.

She returned to Keldath for the bounty and to sell most of the spoils of her victories. At Thalantyr's she discovered that this still wasn't enough to buy her the Ring of Free Action, so she decided to travel further westward, to the coast. She explored an area characterized by a Lighthouse and by the presence of many sirines under the cover of Improved Invisibility. At one point she distinguished a cave in which she found all kind of magical items, including (as she would find out later): a Manual of Bodily Health, a Cloak of the Wolf, some potions and a few Bard-only items. She cast a second Improved Invisibility in order to sfaely leave the cave and the area, and travelled south. There she ran into Commander Brage, whom she escorted safely to Nalin in Nashkel.
She didn't linger in Nashkel but travelled to Thalantyr to get her 'treasures' identified. Reading the Manual of Bodily Health gave her health a significant boost. The cloak of the wolf she donned for lack of any better items. She overheard Thalantyr speaking, in his customary despective tone, of a cleric or mage called Haeball selling magical items in a tower in the Larswood. Aya decided to travel there but she was a bit disappointed by what Haeball had to offer: good darts (it must be admitted), arcane scrolls, potions and wands, all of it pretty overpriced. She bought a few invisibility potions though. Outside, she had a far from friendly encounter with two fellow druids. The first one, Osmadi, mistook her for a bandit and attacked her. She killed him with the help of the second one, named Corsone. But when she pressed him for an explanation of what had happened, Corsone admitted to having poisoned Osmadi and attacked her as well. Summon Insects and two devastating Lightning Bolts did him in. The gear she found on the druids' bodies made her trip to the Cloakwood worthwhile after all. Most importantly she found a suit of enchanted Leather Armor on Corsone which, although not great (due to the +2 penalty to missile and slashing damage), offers reasonable protection due to a +3 enchantment.
(Some of the loot is too overpowered IMO: Bracers that set AC to 2 and give an extra APR, a 'Spear of Fire +2' that gives 1d6 fire damage on top of its normal damage, and the 'Branch of Many Thorns' a club that can be used in melee as well as ranged and that does 2 poison damage/round, up to a total of 30. I won't use any of these items.)
Aya will probably do a few minor quests (Greywolf, perhaps Cloudpeaks, and Shoal) before investigating the Nashkel Mines.
Ragnar and friends - 1st and final update
Ragnar got killed by the Revenant to the east of Nashkel mines. Would post the rest of the update, but saw it would just take up to much space. Ragnar, Rollo, Floki, Lagertha, Siggy, Skulls and Bones Guy were all people on the popular show that airs on the History Channel. Vikings.
Thank you everyone for the remarks about Grith'atzu making it into Amn. Best of Luck to all your runs as well.
After she got some loot identified by Thalantyr, Aya met a handsome but introverted Elven Stalker who presented himself as Kivan. He was out on a vendetta against bandits that had assassinated the love of his life, a woman by the name of Deheriana. When Aya told him she had little love for bandits herself, he proposed they joined their causes and she agreed.
[Most people who kit Kivan make him an Archer, but I think I like him as a Stalker. He's using longbows and a 2h sword with which he can backstab thanks to one of my mods. I see backstabas as sneak attacks and therefore don't agree with the game's weapon restrictions for backstabbing. Besides why would a 'backstab' be possible for a stalker with a club and not a mace for example?]
Their first feats were taking on 'Mommy' the halfling priestess and 'Daddy' the Ogre in Beregost, which yielded the Gauntlets of Ogre Giant STR and the Serpent Shaft staff. The party then ran into Garrick. Heproposed them to aid his mistress Silke who was in peril of being attacked by mercenaries. Without hesitation Kivan and Aya agreed to Garrick's pretty proposal. It turned out that Silke was the real threat and the supposed mercenaries she wanted Aya and Kivan to kill were innocent men. When Aya and Kivan refused to aid Silke, they had to fight her instead. Kivan attacked with his greatsword and Aya cast Summon Insects, and later a Chromatic Orb that stunned Silke. She fell in no time.

The party then travelled south to Nashkel to investigate the disappearances and the problems with the iron ore in the mines. [Having recruited Kivan I think I need to somewhat hurry toward the bandit camp lest I lose Kivan.]
Near the mines they protected Prism from Greywolf. Isra who was there to protect Greywolf as well, Kivan and Aya might not have survived that encounter if it weren't for Aya's Web. Both Kivan (boots found on Corsone that increase stealth and give free action) and Aya (expensive ring of free action bought from Thalantyr) were unsusceptible to the spell's effect and finished Greywolf off with little difficulty.

In the mines the companions had a bit of a hard time on the bridge in the third level. Kivan was stealthed and Aya had used a potion of invisibility so that they could pass by the horde of kobolds without being noticed. Nevertheless Kivan got surrounded by what seemed to be an ever growing horde of kobolds (30+) whose archers were quite dangerous to both Aya and Kivan. Neither of the two had a good enough AC to shrug off most of the missile attacks. Aya wouldn't leave her companion to his fate though. She cast a Web, and the both of them started killing as many of the critters as fast as possible. They weren't fast enough to take down all of them, so a second Web was needed.

The entrance to the fourth (and final) level was guarded by a kobold shaman, a kobold chieftain and four or five kobold minions. The minions weren't much of a threat, but the kobold chieftain especially was a dangerous foe. At a decent rate he fired poisoned arrows that did 12 HP damage over six seconds. Quaffing an antidote wasn't a great solution because sooner rather than later another poisoned arrow would hit. As said before, neither Kivan nor Aya was outfitted to simply shrug off missile attacks. Aya tried to cast Summon Insects on the shaman, fearing his magic, but she got interrupted by an arrow while casting. The companions then tried to close in on the chieftain, but he retreated toward the gate to the next level. Aya, seeing Kivan suffer cumulative poison damage, told him to run back whence they'd come. He in turn warned her not to follow the chieftain, as he might well be luring her into a trap. So Aya followed Kivan, who at very low health and in relative safety from the chieftain's attacks drank an antidote. The chieftain and the shaman followed Aya, and this time it was she who suffered from the chieftain's poisoned arrows. Kivan and Aya suddenly turned around and ran toward the chieftain to close the gap between them. Now the odds were in their favour. Aya drank an antidote, and the both of them took the chieftain down in melee combat. Oddly the shaman didn't do much except slowing Kivan at one point, before the companions slew him.

They healed themselves with potions, tripped a trap on their way to the next level (Kivan had been right about that), and healed a bit more to the point that they were completely out of healing potions. They killed off a few more kobolds and then entered Mulahey's lair.
[For roleplaying purposes I wouldn't allow the companions to rest (for spell memorization) or to return to Nashkel to buy healing potions.]
In Mulahey's lair they met resistance not only from the Orcish priest himself but also from about ten kobolds of different ranks and a number of skeletons summoned by the priest. A well placed Web (the last Aya had available) made the battle very easy, especially compared to what the companions had been through on the previous level.

Amongst the spoils they found a magical tome, a pair of enchanted gloves, an enchanted belt that Aya thinks to recognize as a Destroyer of the Hills girdle, and a mace that given its runic engravings also seems to be enchanted. The companions freed Xan, a Fighter/Enchanter who had been Mulahey's captive.
***
So far I'm having a great time with Aya. She's neither overpowered nor very weak, and there's a lot of variety in the way I'm playing her: crowd controlling with Webs, dealing damage to stunned or webbed foes with her staff, disrupting casters with Summon Insects, nuking opponents with Chromatic Orbs, healing herself and Kivan with her spells. And I haven't even used her Shapeshift ability yet. Nor have I used any summons, but I'll probably do so later on. Very versatile and therefore very enjoyable to play.
At this point I'm wondering whether I should add Xan and maybe also Viconia and Coran to my party. On the one hand I always wanted to do an half-elves/elves' run through the entire trilogy with Xan, Coran, Vicky and Kivan (plus Deheriana) all returning in SoA/Tob (with mods). On the other hand I expect that in a large party gameplay might become more generic with divine magic, arcane magic, fighting and thieving all covered. Leaving less room for creativity with Aya. Ayone willing to give an opinion or recommendation on this aspect is more than welcome to do so.
Xan is awesome.
Hanna the Priest of Talos and her random party entering trilogy no-reload challenge...
Since my last random party had quite the problem with chunked characters, have a full party this time. As usual, the team is randomly generated by my random character program. I had forgotten that yes, it does the spells too. Anyways on to introductions:
Mordred, Servant & Black Guard of Asmodeus. “Theirs is not to reason why, but to do or die.” Still I wonder why Asmodeus has not granted me a Rogue when he asks me now to negotiate the Firewine Ruins. There will be traps & there will likely be death in my party. I descended knowing these facts well. I even led the way for the three steps I took before a lightning bolt, tripped by a trigger somewhere unseen, blasted into my armor & then shot off behind me injuring my Bard/Herald/Sage before dissipating. I am thankful to my lord that I didn’t lost half my party right there but he spared them.
From there it was steadily downhill. Fireballs, Magic Missile Traps & hordes of Kobolds w/Arrows of Fire. I lost my Conjurer, my Bard/Herald/Sage & my Enchanter. I continued to ‘bull my way through’ w/weakened party members until the final battle w/a mage, Ogrillons, Kobolds w/their Arrows of Fire & an Ogre Mage.
Key Event: I continued to ‘bull my way through’ w/weakened party members until the final battle w/a mage, Ogrillons, Kobolds w/their Arrows of Fire & an Ogre Mage. I continued to quaff Elixir’s of Health to keep myself strengthened for whatever lay ahead. And I found it. At first it was just another Kobold Commando. Get to him, kill him & be done w/it. Expect that chasing him will lead to other group of the Kobolds that will also need to be dealt w/but I didn’t expect a Mage…& an Ogrillon. I quaffed my Potion of Absorption fearing a Lightning Bolt in tight quarters & I was smart to do so b/c it came. Me, my Berserker Sergeant & my Illusionist were still standing but it wasn’t long it was just me & the Berserker Sergeant. Then a Ogre Berserker joined the fray. I felt I had only one choice @ the time but could I do it again, I’d back off & return after regrouping w/my Berserker Sergeant. Suddenly after a solid hit I find myself confused. My Berserker Sergeant abandoned his duties w/a couple of surviving Kobold Commando’s, braving the sure fire of the Arrows of Fire, to come to my aid. I was severely injured. He was able to land one blow & I thought I might escape this ridiculous predicament…but I did not.

LOOKING GOOD, A LITTLE BEATEN UP BUT CLOSE TO GETTIN' OUT OF HERE...

MORDRED DIES...
Treasure of Note: Had I survived, we’d have had gained a Fireball, a Lightning Bolt & a Cone of Gold as well as a Mage Robe of Electrical Resistance. There was a Tome/Manual but I could identify w/my Illusionist. I easily could have raised one of them, which would have been my Conjurer @ first. I’d have gone to Firewine Ruins next & likely been able to get to my Bard/Herald/Sage.

** Self-imposed restriction: I require my mages to always select spells from their school to learn & memorize. They can learn/memorize others from other schools, but after writing all the spells they can for their intelligence, if they find one from their own school, they have to remove a spell from another school in deference to the spell from their own. Same w/memorization, they must learn spells from their school first before others & I only allow them to learn one of. Any extra memorized spell slots have to go to spells from their school. Bards, Sorcerers & ‘vanilla’ Mages aren’t restricted in this way.
MORDRED DIES...
Wow, I didn't see this coming at all. Mordred was amazing. I'm sorry to see him go. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I loved reading Mordred's journal. Hopefully you've enjoyed no-reload enough to be willing to start over with a fresh new character (or with Mordred II if you so desire), and report on the forums about his or her progress.
Your roleplaying was admirable, maybe a bit too "true" for a successful no-reload run. Generally dungeon crawling requires either a good thief or a lot of metagaming (using a potion of absorption when you know you're going to trip a lightning trap, or casting mirror image to absorb trap damage).
I've got a general question, and would be glad to have your views. It seems that none of you play with kitted multiclass characters. Should I deduce from this that to you playing a "legal" class/kit is part of the challenge?
My performances with my last five characters have been less than stellar to say the least:
- Bounty Hunter (killed by Jenkal in Gullykin)
- Cleric/Thief 1 (charmed in Cloakwood Mines)
- Wizard Slayer (killed by "pnp Battle Horrors" in Davaeorn fight)
- Cleric/Thief 2 (stunned and killed by Rayic Gethras)
- Transmuter who could only cast Alteration spells (kissed to death by Shoal; she was a female charname and I thought that Shoal only kissed males).
This made me think of rolling a Thief/Mage, since I've had good experiences about a year and a half ago with a gnomish Illusionist/Thief who was almost through SoA Chapter 2 without reloading (and having done all the major quests) when my game kept crashing in d'Arnise outside area.
Now, instead of an Illusionist/Thief I've been thinking of rolling an elven Mage/Thief and kit her into a Swashbuckler, which would have the advantage of a broader spell selection and better fighting skills, and the disadvantage of one less spell each level and no backstabs. Would you consider this cheating? If so, I think I'd stick to the gnome.
Looking forward to your opinions. Meanwhile I'm going to try and take my Avenger through Larswood, Peldvale and Bandit Camp....
Blackraven - about your "illegal" class question, you can just treat it as a mod. Just announce it when your character enters the challenge, and there shouldn't be any problem about it, as long as you are up front about your install.
@CKT - sorry to hear of Modred's death. Hope you try again.
@ CKT
I dropped my cigar reading about Mordred.
Shame to see him go.
**I've decided to put Grith'atzu (in SoA) on hold, I really wanted to give this guy a try, I got to Melissan forever ago with this guy (but died), figured i'd give it another go**
Valthrix - Dualing at LvL 13 for maximum usage of the fighter side
I did all my normal stuff, like with every solo run, I go for the big targets that are easy and deal out a load of XP : Firebead Elvenhair, Marl, Huge Spiders in Beregost, exploding ogre, the mage in the tent, Greywolf, Revenant, amazons, Bassilicks, Bassilus. Then I play the game. (if you are reading this, than i completed these tasks, I will only post solo no reloads if I complete this, don't want to take up to much space). All fights consisted of berserking and swinging my sword (and downing a lot of HP potions), amazons though were completed with a potion of speed given by Imoen's dead body. Revenant was done with Greywolfs sword. To judge the time duration of the mirror eyes potion, i cast Berserk 6 seconds before i drink a potion of mirror eyes. When Berserk goes out, i know i have one round to hurry and drink another potion just in case (which only happened once, but the lizard was preoccupied in melee and didn't try gazing).
I went to go grab the mage's ring from FAI, and sold the mages ring for potions of health / poison / mirror eyes. I then started to complete the above to do list. Which is now accomplished and i'm at LvL This. I decided it was time to go down to get the constitution book, since i'm immune to charm because of the berserk, this should be pretty simple. Which it was, the flesh golems got a few hits in, but nothing to worry about. I grabbed the book then ran to the mines. At the mines i battled my way through the kobolds till i got to Malahey. With Berserk applied Malahey's hold spells have no way to take effect, so Malahey was just pounded into bits, along with his minions. Nimbul was done the same way, as fear has no hold on a Berserker. It is now time to head off to get all the bandits done, Tranzig was my next target, and with him now gone, the bandit camp is open for the taking.
Along the way to the bandit camp, i figured it was time to turn in all the times from the beregost spider house, and Bassilus' Holy Symbol for the extra 5k gp. Finally arrived at the bandit camp, and forged my way through the bandits till i got to the tent. I went into Berserk mode and entered the tent, headed straight for the mage. I hit the mage with a regular hit, then followed with a mass critical hit which bursted the mage into bits. I turned my attention towards the human bandit Raemon. Like the mage i hit him once, then followed up by a critical hit, which chunked him just like his partner. The gnoll was the next to fall, nothing special, just three slashes did the gnoll right through. The last bandit standing, Hekt the hobgoblin, was slain in the same manner as the gnoll. I grabbed the scrolls and made off towards Poison wood ( I HATE SPIDERVILLE). With potions of free action and the poison protection scroll, I should be ready.
I arrived at cloakwood and skipped the whole first zone. At the second zone (spiders) I headed straight towards the den to grab the sword, only fighting what comes in my way. Inside the den, I went berserk and just kept swinging. I knew that a cache of spiders were hiding to the northern part of the den, so i used a explosion potion to soften them up, and charged in. Grabbed the spider's sword, and headed off towards zone 3. Like always, i skipped zone 3 by just heading due west to the border of zone 4. Once in zone 4, i hit the wyvern cavern along the way. Inside i went in berserk ready and casted horror immediately, which pulled off two of the initial wyverns (baby and adult). I just swung away till they died, nothing really to report. At the beginning of the mine, the fight was pretty simple. I initiated combat with a Bhaal Horror and the two fighters got struck, I focused fired on the two mages, then the two fighters. Boots of Speed are a major plus. I headed off to the HH to sell off some loot, then going to head into the mine.
Inside the mine I lucked out. The initial first fight was practically over before it began, the lightning trap i set off bounced down into the main room, killing four of the bandits and leaving the one mage and another bandit. As i went further into the mine, more and more bandits and hobgoblins died, I took minimal damage in the process, and I'm now on the bottom level of the mine. By carefully pulling out the Battle Horrors, I finished them off one by one and now i'm ready to take out Dave. I went Berserk and charged right in. As Dave was just teleporting around the room, I would hit him and knock off each of his mirrored images, eventually getting him down to zero, and eventually his health down to zero as well. Now off to the big BG. Of course not until i flood the mine with all the miners inside.
On the entrance of BG, I grabbed the DEX book and grabbed all the potions that i'll need for the rest of the game. I went into the Seven Suns building and caused a little havoc with the dopps, then reported my findings to Scar of the FF. I was granted an audience with the Grand Duke, and he gave a quest to infiltrate the Iron Throne building. I instead set out to get the wisdom book, then headed to the Iron Throne Building. But that will be tomorrow, cause i'm tired, and i'm going to bed.
@CKT. Shame to see Mordred fall. That was a good run though and no disgrace to end it like that - the constricted space in those ruins makes that a tough fight.
@Blackraven. Go for what you want to do. From my perspective I would say that no-reload success has far less to do with character class and far more with the way you play - success with even the most 'powerful' character remains a challenge
.
Thanks everyone for your input. I'm going to roll the Swashmage. I like 2nd ed. more than later editions since the cherrypicking (two levels of X, one of Y, than five of Z, etc) is a bit too much for me. But within 2E I think some flexibility offers diversity and flavour. Btw I think an Elven Swashmage isn't too difficult to justify from a roleplaying perspective. I'm glad that all of you are pretty open regarding the matter of kitted multiclasses, and I'm open when it comes to my install/weapons/advantages/restrictions/etc. For example there's this amazing spell added by the DSOTSC mod called Army of One, which in brief seems to work as a DUHM, haste and mirror image all in one. Annoyingly it's a level 3 spell, and therefore way too low level. This should IMO be a level 6 spell (or maybe even 7). So I either won't use it at all, or I'll only use it when I get access to level 6 and limit the number of memorizations allowed.
Mr_Goldbeard, compliments on your progress. I'm going to try and do the same with the Swashmage. I'm kind of eager to get back to Amn rather than silting up in BG1 in enjoyable but slow full party playthroughs.
Meanwhile an update on my progress with Aya the Avenger from this afternoon:
***
Aya, Kivan and Xan left Mulahey's lair, killed two slimes and rested near the exit to the surface. When they stepped outside they were accosted by two bounty hunters, Elka and Natalka. Both were deadly archers with enchanted bows, but as is often the case with archers, in melee combat they were less convincing. The party found some interesting loot on the bodies of their fallen foes. They'd have to get it identified in Nashkel or at the High Hedge. None of the companions knew where they were, so they carefully explored the place. They spoke with a mage, Narcillicus, who told them he had discovered a spell that allows the caster to control slimes and jellies, but when Aya asked him for Xan's sake to write the spell down, he suddenly turned hostile and summoned two Mustard Jellies. Kivan's arrows, and Aya's Lightning Bolt killed the mage before he could hurt them. The Jellies were harder to kill and actually did some damage with their 'spit attacks' before the party killed them off.
In a burial mound they ran into a Revenant who demanded them to return to him a dagger they didn't have. A difficult battle ensued. It almost killed Xan. The companions took turns in tanking the undead creature, because none of them would be able to stand long enough against it. Xan had no useful magic against the Revenant, but Kivan and Aya had arrows and Chromatic Orbs they could launch at their foe when they weren't tanking it.

Their violent return to the surface had them rest a second time in only a couple of hours. But with almost no healing potions the party didn't see any other option. Well-rested they made their way back to Nashkel, which took a full 24 hours, making them deel like resting again when they arrived. Especially Xan seemed to be suffering from fatigue. They spoke briefly with Berrun Ghastkill, the town's mayor, about what had transpired in the mines. He was very thankful and rewarded the party with 900 gold. However, when they wanted to enter the Nashkel Inn they were held up and attacked by an assassin named Nimbul, albeit not for long. Webbed by Aya, he became as harmless as a baby. Aya felt a pang of guilt about taking his life, even though she knew that it would probably be a fatal mistake sparing the life of an assassin who had tracked her to Nashkel and whose explicit task it was to kill her, according to a letter she found on his corpse. She wanted to confer with her companions about sparing Nimbul, but Kivan, much less scrupulous when it comes to dealing with bandits and other punks as he would call them, didn't hesitate to deal the killing blow.

After Nimbul was slain, Aya saw a squirrel trapped in her web. She released it and with her innate animal empathy acually managed to communicate with the little animal. It gave her a 'lucky' ring. Even Kivan well-attuned to nature as he may be, was quite impressed.

The party finally took some time to rest. The next morning they spoke with Nalin and asked him to look at the items they had found in the mines and on the foes they had bested after having left the mines. Most notable amongst the spoils were a pair of gloves that increase a Cleric's fighting prowess, a Knave's robe from Narcillicus went to Xan, a belt that wold protect the wearer against crushing attacks, a composite long bow +2 from one of the bounty hunters for Kivan, an enchanted mace +1, Boots of Avoidance for Xan, and a suit of Shadow Armor they held on to in case a rogue would join their party. (They weren't short on gold, with about 10 thousand gold in cash at hand.)
[No boots of grounding due to item randomization, which makes playing with Lightning Bolts in closed areas a tricky game for now.]
They still had a tome the nature of which Nalin couldn't identify, as well as suit of seemingly enchanted studded leather armor. The party decided to pay Thalantyr a visit, to see if he could identiy these items, and maybe barter for some of his magical items. On their way north three Flaming Fist mercenaries accused the party of banditry. They even attacked when Aya, still in high spirits about the party's recent good deeds, answered their spokesmn laughingly that their warm smile and honest demeanor should leave no doubt as to the party's good intentions. The companions defended themselves with little trouble after Xan had cast Haste on the party. A few moments later they had to deal with yet another Flaming Fist who was about to kill a rogue priestess apparently for being drow. The party saw no choice but to defend the woman (and themselves). After the officer was slain, the elf presented herself as Viconia, and Aya didn't hesitate to take her in.

The area housed many ghouls and a couple of hobgoblins, but these didn't pose a threat to the party. On one of the hobgoblins the party found a pair of very soft and supple boots. Thalantyr might have to take a look at those as well.
They made a stop at Feldepost's in Beregost, because according to the letter they had found on Nimbul a contact of Nimbul and his principal, called Tranzig, could be found at the inn. This Tranzig managed to slow and hold Xan, a feat that impressed the other party members, but when Aya sent some summoned insects his way, his resistance broke and he fell before he could beg for mercy.

When the companions left the inn to travel to Thalantyr, they were met by more bounty hunters, this time a party of four amazons: two clerics and two thieves. Aya neutralized the priestesses with a Web. Unfortunately Xan positioned on the fringe of the spell's AoE got held as well, and Viconia, still without a weapon (the party was going to buy a club for her), got seriously injured by a vicious backstab of one the thieves. Soon after both Vicky and the thief got entangled in Aya's Web. Kivan slew one of the priestesses and got stabbed in the back by th second thief. So he turned around and occupied himself with her, while Aya tried to finish of the cleric she'd been attacking. Viconia got free and was told by Aya to run for cover as she was injured and vulnerable without a weapon and without spells. [I had neglected to memorize spells for her...] Kivan slew his second foe, the thief that had stabbed him, while Aya was still struggling to take down the cleric. Kivan came to her help, but then the remaining thief who had backstabbed Viconia, freed herself and started to attack Xan. A quick Chromatic Orb failed to stun the thief, so Kivan went after her, leaving Aya with the near dead and still held cleric. Aya soon managed to kill the cleric, Xan got free, and the last remaining foe, the second thief was held and subsequently killed (by Xan), so in the end they companions all survived the surprise encounter although some resting and healing was in order.

Aya went and spoke with Taerom the blacksmith, who identified a number of items for the party: the Boots of Stealth (for Viconia), a pair magical Bracers AC6 (for Xan) and some unusable items she sold directly after having them identified. For Viconia she bought the Weary Cudgel, an expensive club that seriously drained the party's resources. The companions then visitied Thalantyr, and learned from him that the magical tome was one of Leadership and Influence (Aya read it to increase her CHA to 18), and the studded leather armor was a piece of Armor of Deep Night. It went to Kivan. They also bought a scroll case for Xan and a potion bag.
The party then returned to Beregost to have a relaxed night at Feldepost's before they would set out to the Wood of Sharp Teeth, because that's where according to Tranzig Tazok and his bandit minions are operating.
Valthrix - 2nd BG1 Update
After grabbing the wisdom book from the cleric's body at the temple, I made my way to the mage tower to grab the INT book as well. I made my way to the Iron Throne building, and i made my way to the top of the keep. I slung a potion of explosions at the fight of the two casters, then ran down the stairs, leaving the Dopp to follow. At the bottom of the stairs i just kept swinging Spider's Bane killing them one by one. While luring them one by one to the bottom, i would go back up the stairs and fire off another potion of explosions to disrupt the two spell casters once more. Once they finally died, i grabbed the scrolls and went to go see the Duke once more. The duke teleported me to Candlekeep, where i went straight into the library, and went to the floor where Rielter and friends stood. Went i walked up to him he started dialog were I lied and said i would be on my way, but instead I just rolled a critical hit and began tearing apart piece by piece of his friends. I was arrested shortly after.
Down in the catacombs, i killed all the little beasties, then drank a potion of storm giant str (24 STR) and pried the graves open for the WIS and STR tome. I continued on my path, where i came across Dreder and Arkanis. I provoked their hand, in which i slayed, then went on to face the three dopps at the corridor. Prat and friends were of no real threat, with the last bit of my STR potion applied and going berserk, they died really quickly. Seems I had poor planning like always, i forgot to grab a potion of mirror eyes, so i had to use on of my invisibility potions. No matter, I was out of the catacombs shortly after words anyway.
Back at the big city, I was being hunted by FF parties, and the search party. To end this run as fast as possible, i just diverted the parties and made my way to grab the duke, and deliver him to the harbor master. Having both of the tomes in my pack, i need to get them identified so i went to the sorcerous sundries in the eastern district. I then made my way to the sewers to get the invitation to the Duchal Palace. Slythe got one hit in on me before he passed, and Kristen was of zero conflict of interest. I grabbed the invitations and made my way to the Palace. Outside of the palace i drank a potion of speed to increase my apr and went inside berserked. I made super quick work of the Dopps and both the male and female lived, normally the female dies leaving only belt. Sarevok teleported shortly after. At the maze i drank a potion of absorbtion / speed / invisibility and made my way towards the temple.
I arrived at the temple gates. I downed the rest of the potions that i presumed i would need : invulnerability, storm giant str, magic protection, rebuffed speed potion. I went to the edge of the LOS limit and threw exploding potions at Sarevok and minions. Luring out Sarevok. I accidently triggered the web trap, which can prove fatal to my none Spider's Bane holder characters. But it proved a great and useful tool, cause it held Sarevok in place. Aaaaaand Sarevok is dead Picture.

Hanna the Priest of Talos and her random party - update 2
Traveling with: Uriah(fighter), Lily(Shapeshifter), Werg(thief), Joshua(sorcerer), Paja(Enchanter)
Hanna and team have made it to Nashkel and beyond. Neira was blinded. We have had a few deaths, but not as many as my random parties often have. We were able to get the DEX gauntlets for Uriah, and with his -5 AC he now tanks much better. Lily is so weak, that most of the time we have her shapeshifted and assist Uriah in tanking duties. Our Thac0 is still pretty bad, without our entangles, sleeps, blinds and hold persons, we would be doing much worse. 3 characters still have to use throwing daggers for range weapons - will be happy to get another proficiency point to put in better range weapons. However, Joshua and Paja can't get a range weapon pip until level 6, so will be a while - when Werg gets to level 4, can put a pip in shortbow, which should help quite a bit.
