Grit - elven wild mage (update 1)

Having done a fair amount of heavy hitting with the Wrecking Crew I thought perhaps I would mix them up with another go at a wild mage.  I'm going to try hard this time to keep things simple and safe (I know, I always say that ).  Chic has finally run out of sisters, so Grit has the opportunity to make a name for herself in her own right and has made a solid start this morning.

From Candlekeep she went on a tour to collect equipment.  First she picked up a frost wand from Nashkel mine, then used that to soften up Meilum to get his bracers.  Familiar invisibility allowed her to collect a potion of invisibility & a wand of monster summoning from the Valley of the Tombs, a wand of paralysation from the lighthouse area and a wand of fire from the ankheg nest.

The wands were used a bit in various encounters, though there were still plenty of darts thrown.  The only problem was when a slight mis-click exposed the familiar to an attack by one of Mirianne's ogrillons.  I didn't vacuum everything, but concentrated on reputation quests - getting to 20 and level 6 at the same time with the successful restoration of Melicamp.  Grit had just enough money to buy everything she wanted from Ulgoth's Beard - ring / cloak / amulet / wand and staff together with the available spell scrolls.

She'll get the easy XP from the basilisks next before starting on the main quest.

Aasim, doing well! I like the NPC portraits, never heard of that mod. And did you really go Ankheg hunting at level 1? I find that way too danegrous even with Prot from Acid (the ankhegs' melee attacks can be nasty). Instead of buying that scroll why not buy the green Scroll of Prot. from Petrifcation? Much safer in my experience.

I go kill Ankhegs at level 2 (I get level 2 in Beregost), level 1 is a death sentence regardless of your AC, a crit will kill you. Helmets don't protect from criticals on my install, so I need Pro Acid even at level 2 (this is experience talking  ). Why wasn't "Resist Acid and Corrosion" spell implemented in this game.....?

To buy Protection from Petrification I need to visit Nashkel Carnival. The problem is that groups of Hobgoblins. They have an extended critical strike range (19-20) due to Single weapon style. When I meet 5 or 6 of them in a group, I want to have about 40+HP. Again, this is experience talking :P.

@Grond0 - since you said you will try to be safe with this wild mage incarnation, I assume then you will rarely cast spells in BG 1. Your gold can sometimes disappear, so I just thought I would mention something a lot of players forget, especially if the gold is burning a hole in your pocket - you can buy a fireball wand from the Durlag Tower's merchant anytime, provided you have the cash of course. You could then use said wand to destroy enemy parties (Amazaons, Kirian's party, etc.) thus increasing cash even more. Finally, you just flat save time, blasting large groups of weak creatures rather than wasting time darting them.

Indeed - a handful of spells over the game, so not much chance of losing gold to a surge.  With two fire wands available for free I don't think I'll need to pay for any more.  If you do want to buy something then the best value is the frost wand from Ulgoth's Beard - though as you've already posted you need to be careful not to destroy things with that!

Wrecking Crew IX (update 4)

Unlike the wilderness areas, I didn't do everything in the city.  However, those things done were done pretty cleanly.

The mages in Sorcerous Sundries scared a couple of the Crew, but didn't have the firepower to do any real damage before being killed.  A rare concerted melee attack then took out the ogre mage in the sewers, while his pets failed to make any impression.

Arkion was, briefly, grateful for a body and Nemphre also, briefly, grateful for Arkion's amulet.  Ordulinian gave plenty of XP for hearing of the death of those two.

Slane successfully relied on his own saving throws to tank a basilisk

Unsurprisingly, opponents struggled to cast spells against the Crew - Jalantha, Vay-ya, Yago, Marek, Ramazith and Sunin were among those who failed totally.  Drelik's magic resistance allowed him to put a mirror image up, but he still died before he could manage a successor spell.  Ragefast managed a ghost armour, while the mountain maulers racked up a couple of mirror images and an animate dead between them.

By concentrating attacks on Slane the enemies in Degrodel's house did little damage.  The Crew then took revenge on the mage for the unprovoked assault on them.

The Iron Throne was tackled with opening arrows of explosion from everyone.  Three of the four casters perished in the initial assault and Alai failed to follow up on his invisibility, leaving the rest to be quickly mopped up without any further damage.  The ogre magi also suffered from exploding arrows.

After helping Jhasso and reporting to Duke Eltan the Crew are back at Candlekeep ready for the next stage of their adventures.

Tribune - fighter 7, 79 HPs, 254 kills
Slane - fighter 7, 90 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 487 kills
Ace - fighter 7, 78 HPs, 384 kills
Chaste - fighter 7, 78 HPs, 177 kills
Max - fighter 7, 81 HPs, 159 kills, 1 death
Flange - fighter 7, 88 HPs, 195 kills

I normally sell the Wand of Frost or have it somewhere in a bag of holding or a mage's quickslot without ever using it....

I was referring to the particular wand from Centeol. While most wands you find in Hard Times have 1-few charges (5 on shopped wands, usually), this one has 16 or so. Each doing 8d8 damage.

Ishtar, 3rd BG1 update

We explored some areas around FAI early this morning. Had an offer to join the bandits,

043.jpg

but we  prefer a more simplistic (Skull Trap) approach to our problems.

044.jpg

In dire need of Wand of Fire, Ulcaster was visited, and the Wolves residing there slain.
045.jpg

Then, a madness streak apperantly struck us as we decided that, given Imoen has her thief skill backs, explore Durlag's fully.
046.jpg

Great buffs had to be used against Pride, Fear etc, but we survived. I feared this battle a lot.
047.jpg

048.jpg

049.jpg

In this dark place, one finds allies with statues. How cool is that?
050.jpg

Not cool at all, since they turn on us before the final Wyvern was slain. They all died.
051.jpg

052.jpg

One has to pre-buff extensively for what followed - chess battle. Oils of speed were used as last buffs on Minsc and Ishtar since they last the shortest (1 turn); as Imoen finished off the fission slime with scorcher.
053.jpg

Would this be our doom? Without fast attack speed bows, we're limited in our options - pawns apsolutely need to die quickly, otherwise they reach the end of the board and turn to Queens, which is very very bad.
054.jpg

Fire!
055.jpg

More fire! Pawns keep dying!
056.jpg

Imoen gets under attack, drinks up invisibility potion. Battlefield is much clearer now.
057.jpg

Unfortunately, Ishtar is under heavy attack, Imoen breaks her invisibility for more Fire!
058.jpg

She gets Silenced, but that does not prevent her from Wand usage. Fire!
059.jpg

Imoen dies to arrows. No more fire. I have a Raise Dead scroll, but am reluctant to spend time using it now.
060.jpg

Minsc and Ishtar kill the first Queen. They spent their spells.
061.jpg

Followed by the second, which was the only Pawn who made it to the end of the board.
062.jpg

Left alone, King tries to buff himself....
063.jpg

To no avail. Untold riches await us now.
064.jpg

The rest of Durlag's was fairly straigh-forward. I almost forgot fire protection vs Demon there, but all was well.
068.jpg

The battle is much, much easier if one simply refuses to use the mirror - then it can get really ugly.
He couldn't hit me apart on critical, which never happened.
070.jpg

We talk to a ghost there, and she teleports us out. Level 8 reached on both Minsc and Ishtar, Imoen is thief (6) - mage (9).

A Death Knight? What is that? How is it different from a demonknight? Less spellcasting?

On my last run, I used the mirror. The two demonknights occupied each other, until it was time for me to backstab the real one.
I had my party hidden, so I could fight our clones afterwards.

Impressive stuff to take down Durlag's that early Aasim.

Grit - elven wild mage (update 2)

My family were a bit slow getting up this morning, so Grit had the opportunity to do a bit more and find her way to the lights of the big City - though she had to survive a mistake on the way.

She started the session by doing the basilisks (mainly using her staff, but switching to the frost wand when a couple of them tried to melee her back) - getting to level 7 in the course of that.  The familiar then guided Korax in to paralyse Mutamin.

For Kirian's party Grit used her wand to paralyse Lindin.  With that helping hand, Korax successfully held the other 3 and then rotated round to ensure none of them recovered.

At the Nashkel mine Grit ran down invisibly to Mulahey's cave.  He survived a scorcher, but not being poisoned by a dart of wounding.  Two fireballs accounted for 3 of the amazons before Lamalha fell to a scorcher.  A scorcher was also more than enough for Nimbul, while the familiar did a good job of blocking Neira to allow Grit a second go at paralysing her.

Tranzig was filled full of poison from both hobgoblins and darts of wounding.  Moving on to the Bandit Camp Grit intended just to investigate the main tent and leave invisibly (using her ring), but a first major mistake of the run meant she didn't take a potion of absorption until a fraction too late - good job she saved against the trap damage!

Before going to the Cloakwood she bought the Claw and Horn of Kazgoroth and then went to get the tome from Durlag's Tower - using the frost wand on a couple of battle horrors on the way to get to level 8.  There were no errors in travelling through the Cloakwood invisibly.  At the mine Grit was able to throw 2 fireballs to kill Rezdan.  Kysus and Genthore then chased her, but she had space to throw a further one to finish off the other mage.  Some ogres had already been produced and they quickly finished off Genthore and Drasus.

After going invisibly down to Daveorn Grit played safe by using a scroll of magic protection.  The guard and battle horrors were frost blasted and Daveorn worn down with a couple of scorchers before being finished by staff.

The loot from that was just sufficient to purchase the Robe of the Good Archmagi before Grit moved on to Baldur's Gate.

Ishtar, 4th BG1 update

With most of the stuff BG1 offers prior to Baldur's Gate done, it was time to assault the Bandit camp. Level 9 on Imoen allows for some nasty summoning spells...

072.jpg

Soon, the whole thing starts to explode in flashes of fire.

073.jpg

074.jpg

Immy did manage to get herself charmed, but things are about to end soon...

075.jpg

After her charm expired, she kills of what's left of named oponnents with her Lightning Wand. To Cloakwood it is.

076.jpg

We betrayed Aldeth to druids - not very paladin-like, but SCS28 bugs up his city quest. Killed Centeol with 3 Explosion potions - Minsc now adds Spider's Bane to his arsenal (also has World's Edge, which is unchanged by IR)

078.jpg

We skipped most of Cloakwood areas, traveling invisible. Upon arrival at the mine, I noticed mages don't have stoneskins in place - 2 CLUA commands were typed and entered - mages use prebuff before hostile, and Demons don't go ethereal anymore. I simply forgot to enter these two at the start of the game.

080.jpg

Our summons did a fair job, striking 2 critical hits on the enemies.

081.jpg

But it doesn't last long before the enemies regroup, and attack us with even larger numbers! Imoen turns to her trusty Wand of Fire, but it doesn't seem to do enough damage.

082.jpg

Ishtar takes the front line, but gets hit for massive damage and Enffebled, so he decides that discretion is the better part of the valor, and turns invisible.

084.jpg

Another fireball, yet still no one dies. Ogres are very resilient.

085.jpg

Minsc's turn to fight melee. A single critical brings him down to near-death state, he also goes invisible. Ishtar is drinking up healing potions in the meantime.

086.jpg

087.jpg

We heal up, and it's payback time. One...

088.jpg

..two..

089.jpg

..get hit and run...

090.jpg

..three...

092.jpg

and fin.

093.jpg

Due to my high levels, we tackled the complete mines garrison. Ishtar did get blinded when fighting Hareishan, but we defeted her and rested off (luckily uniterrupted) the blindness.

096.jpg

098.jpg

Davaeorn was to be fought under Pro Magic. Unfortunately, killing the 2 horrors was very time consuming - guards started to spawn as the last one died.

099.jpg

As Davaeorn runs out of Stoneskins, he turns invisible...

102.jpg

Imoen summons some Ogres so he would attack them, making himself visible. They don't last long vs 20 or so guards, and Ishtar goes invisible - the number of enemies shooting at him is too big to handle.

104.jpg

Imoen now starts fireballing the place. Davaeorn heals up, revealing his position in the middle of the guards.

105.jpg

106.jpg

One more randomly targeted fireball got him. Take that, you creep!

108.jpg

Baldur's gate, here we come.

Wrecking Crew IX (5th and final update)

Since he was going to be blamed anyway Tribune killed the Iron Throne party - more exploding arrows made that easy.

Slane looted the tombs using scroll of magic protection and storm giant strength.  After killing all the ghasts and dopplegangers on the way out his protection had disappeared - but that wasn't a problem against Prat thanks to more exploding arrows.  He also equipped the Claw of Kazgoroth, which made him better at fighting in webs, though he did get poisoned as a result - Tribune healing him with his Bhaal ability.

Ace initially borrowed some equipment to try tanking the basilisks, but his saving throw of 1 proved inadequate immediately.  Slane bit the bullet and took a potion of mirror eyes - thinking he would kill the basilisks and then revive Ace.  However, it appeared that Ace was no more - a subsequent gaze attack after he was stoned must have shattered his statue

I'll put that run down as a failure and leave it there.

@Grond0 - I'm sorry to hear the end of the Wrecking Crew. Incidentally, earlier we discovered that that you must save vs. death at a -4 penalty - thus, you save vs. death would need to be at least -4 to guarantee you would live. Just easier to use a potion of mirror eyes though...oh yes, you must have forgotten about my strategy I've used in the recent past, or maybe you didn't let yourself use them? With the various necklace of missiles/potions of explosions, you can throw the fireballs out of sight of the basilisks themselves to safely take them out if you didn't have the potion of mirror eyes.

I had tons of potions (invulnerability and magic shielding would both have guaranteed saves as well as mirror eyes), but was trying to avoid using items where possible - the concept behind the dwarven fighters was that they didn't like using magic other than armour and weapons.  I knew he was vulnerable to being petrified, but expected to be able to restore him after the combat ...

I see. Perhaps basilisks are a refutation of that line of thinking...not that this is much help, but a number of times I have had characters/NPCs get petrified and the immediately re-attacked by basilisks which of course then chunk them, so this is hardly an isolated occurrence. Perhaps another idea is arrows of detonation? A quick enough attack might disrupt the gaze attack and you can then do what you wanted only using weapons and armor...

A new installment, slightly less detailed as to to the RP aspects, due to time constraints, but hopefully with some interesting battle reports :)

***********************************************************

We ventured deeper into the immense forest, got waylaid by Wyverns and Giant Spiders but passed by unnoticed thanks to Invisibility 15’ Radius. [I think I’ve never used that spell so often as during this playthrough.] When we reached the area where Coran and I had spotted a Druid community before, Jaheira warned me that these Druids were Shadow Druids, merciless defenders of nature. I didn’t necessarily see the Shadow Druids’ philosophy as flawed. I’m not saying I share their philosophy but I also don’t oppose it. The Realms are probably a better place thanks to these protectors of nature. I befriended a Cave Bear that initially seemed to want to attack us. With the bear near us, we rested at a safe distance from the Druids, still invisible. Or I should say my party, except Coran and yours truly, rested. I gave myself to Coran that night. My friend, boyfriend and now lover started caressing me and kissing me all over my body. I couldn’t resist. It was a delightful experience. Coran was very patient and sweet with me. I slept in his arms after we had united our bodies, and I was still a bit sleepy when the next morning a Shadow Druid by the name of Laskal saluted us. He asked us what business we had in the forest. In my honesty I replied that we were enemies of the Iron Throne. Laskal appreciated that, since the Shadow Druids opposed the Iron Throne as well, but Jaheira and Dynaheir were less satisfied with my openness.

65c9a3a758f218561dd9cb01318110.png

After Laskal’s welcome I deemed it wise to approach the Shadow Druids in order to learn what they know of the Iron Throne, and perhaps find a way in which we could join our forces against our common enemy. This didn’t work out. The Shadow Druids recognized Jaheira, as a member of a different Druid order with a different philosophy, and attacked us wherever we went. First there was Izefia with two henchmen, all three Shapeshifters. Unprepared for any hostilities, they overwhelmed us with a swarm of insects that interrupted and panicked all of us, and attacking us in their lightning fast Werewolf forms. Dynaheir tried to web our foes but they were quickly moved toward us, before they could get caught. Jaheira got severely injured when Izefia opened the heavens to let a lightning strike electrocute her. When we the insect swarm left us, we proceeded to attack, and bested the Druids with overwhelming physical force.

9a4a848468a87bfa8fff01dce95a53.png
62c7c669870dc4c5df6269e5014fab.png

A second encounter with a Druid named Takiyah and two companions of his, was equally violent, but much less problematic for us than the previous battle. This time Dynaheir’s web did catch and hold our foes, after which they were easily dealt with by Khalid, using Spiders’ Bane, and the others’ ranged attacks.9df5aa937d99121c2b03bebe4d285b.png

We hoped for a more sensible reception by the Archdruid, Aarande, in his tree house, but he too enraged at the sight of Jaheira. Two of his lackeys were horrored by Dynaheir. Amarande stood no chance against an onslaught of missile attacks (Coran’s and my arrows, Jaheira’s returning throwing dagger +1, and Dynaheir’s Magic Missiles). When he fell he dropped a nice club, the Root of the Problem, which is now my melee weapon of choice.

30d5740551a9e3802dbbe3e085e2e3.png

Back outside we ran into one more Shadow Druid who seemed more prudent than her colleagues, a girl by the name of Faldorn. She proposed to join our forces, and I accepted despite Jaheira’s protestations. Faldorn displayed her keen senses right after she joined, when she referred to Coran and me, and to last night. I was flabbergasted, and urged her to be discreet.

d606f0d6f3c3e4afb7894702aa1d3f.png

Faldorn’s indications regarding the location of the Iron Throne base, helped us reach our destination within little more than a day’s travel. The base was located on a small island and could only be accessed via a wooden bridge. I first scouted the area and bonded with a small pack of wolves that might aid us in case of hostilities. Across the aforementioned bridge four hired killers awaited us: two warriors and two mages. Dynaheir, as always, tried to web our foes so that Khalid could attack with Spiders’ Bane. As often, things didn’t really work out as she must have hoped. While the web did hold Genthore, one of the fighters, the other fighter remained free, and the mages came with instantly cast Minor Globes of Invulnerability. One of the latter cast a Chaos in our direction just when Khalid had retreated from the webbed area and was in the process of activating his sword’s berserk ability. As in the Bandit Tent, he wasn’t fast enough. The Chaos spell struck both him and Coran. Confused Khalid got killed by the mages’ Melf’s Minute Meteors while fighting Drasus. Coran, still confused, was standing in a corner between a wooden fence that demarcated the premises and the outer wall of a barn that housed two horses. The mages for some reason started attacking and killing the horses, very sad and completely unnecessary, and Drasus noticd Coran and approached to attack. Fortunately my sweetheart slew the warrior with an arrow at melee range [for 4 dmg, thanks Khalid for softening up Drasus].Coran’s confusion wore off soon after, allowing him to sneak toward the party that had positioned itself on the other side of the bridge.

7c026814674c15041c418c307a8323.png

Somehow the mages sensed Coran’s movemennt and came after him. Kysus spotted Dynaheir (the only one of the party who was visible because she had cast Web), and almost killed her with a Lightning Bolt. She put on the Boots of Speed and fled to the south where she went invisible and healed herself a bit with her only potion. Rezdan followed her that way, but Dynaheir shook him off. Coran, Faldorn, Jaheira and I went in a northerly direction, invisible/hidden, and saw Kysus lose track. When we noticed that he was merely Stoneskinned, we reckoned it a good moment to strike. Faldorn first summoned her Dread Wolf, and she called Woodland Beings (two dryads that charmed a number of hostile Tasloi).

The wizard stood no chance against our small army. He eventually fell to one of my arrows, without having cast anymore spells (apart from a triggered Invisibility of Shadow Door).

With Faldorn’s Dread Wolf I took on Genthore, the second Fighter.

43f1c5b4224b2e1752c153d615edff.png

East of the compound Dynaheir found the last of our foes, Rezdan the Mage. He was webbed and assaulted with arrows, Faldorn’s Chromatic Orbs, Dynaheir’s, and Magic Missiles. He managed to Spook his melee opponent Jaheira, but that wouldn’t save him from death.

dbb6874edfa89f5b86db9815820c75.png

We traveled all the way back to Beregost to get Khalid raised at the Temple of Lathander, and to get a Mage Robe of Practical Protection for Dynaheir from Thalantyr after selling him an enchanted morning star and crossbow we had found on Drasus. Another interesting piece of treasure had been a Tome of Charisma by the way.

At the Cloakwood Mines we found little resistance on the first level, and spoke with couple of enslaved miners to plan their escape and to get an idea of the goings-on. We were told that the operation was led by a wizard named Davaeorn, possibly the same man the Surgeon had told us a bout on the Coast. The second level was heavily guarded. Immediately upon entering we met I think about twenty guards, plus a mage, Hareishan. We retreated, and for some reason only one guard and Hareishan followed us upstairs. There, the mage confused Coran, who went bat hunting, and Spooked, Blinded (Glitterdust), and Slowed me. Khalid however, with a Potion of Invunerability saved against the latter two spells. He did get Enfeebled but even in that state he had sufficient power to slay the mage in melee combat. [I found this interesting because h had 5 STR, while his Sword requires 14 STR!] She dropped the Elves’ Bane girdle.

c014a8d46fa5429662bb86e3249cff.png
d84552794d4d404ba5efedc663f8f0.png

We proceeded to cleanse the second level of all its guards and released two prisoners. On the third level we had to fight two wizards. The first one was a heavily buffed Ogre Mage that fell to our party’s joint melee assault.

3c074203cfffe9cb105337085a9daf.png
87ce49ca33f4b860fc281cc30e38a9.png

The second fight, against Nastasha, a female Human Mage was much harder. She killed three of my party members before we slew her. Interestingly I feel like all the dying is starting to lose its impact on me, not in the least because apparently I can always raise my companions. I can only hope they’ll do the same with me if I fall someday. Unlike Hareishan, Natasha didn’t use much magic to debilitate us, although she Horrored me at point. Hareishan’s powerful magic was mostly aimed at dealing massive damage. A Lightning Bolt instantly killed Jaheira.

A Sunfire severely injured Coran and nearly killed Khalid who, fortunately enough, didn’t lose morale so that he could heal himself with potions. Dynaheir got poisoned twice in a row by two Hobgoblin Elite archers and fell soon after due to a Fireball by Natasha.

I was lucky to remain relatively unscathed because in my Horror I had entered the room where Natasha was displaying her destructive magics. (Faldorn had tried to dispel the Horror, but due to my Boots of Speed I didn’t stay long enough in the Dispel Magic’s area of effect.) Coran had distanced himself from the scene in order to quaff a couple of healing potions, but Natasha must have smelled blood: she finished him off with a Magic Missile.

When Natasha’s Horror had worn off I started to attack her with my bow, while severely injured Khalid was fighting her in close combat. When her Stoneskin wore off, she buffed herself again, with: Shield, Mirror Image, Ghost Armor, Improved Invisibility and Minor Globe of Invulnerability. My arrows and finally, a devastating hit by Khalid felled the formidable spellcaster.

With only three of us left, we contemplated a return to the Friendly Arm Inn in order to raise our fallen comrades, but we also considered that the time to strike was now. Selûne knows how many reinforcements the base would have had if we had returned in a week’s time after the destruction we had just caused. Thus we boldly (and perhaps stupidly) continued our exploration of the Mine. We descended to fourth and lowest level. There we were greeted by Davaeorn’s right hand, asking us for our business. We said we wanted to speak with his superior. He would not let us pass and attacked us instead. He fell, after which I cast a green scroll of Protection from Magic on myself. I thought caution was in place after our devastating encounter with Natasha, who wasn’t even supposed to be the powerful wizard that ran the mine. I proceeded hidden in shadows, and triggered a Magic Missile trap and two Skull Traps. They didn’t affect me thanks to being protected from magic.

Daveorn spoke to me, sensing my presence in spite of my stealth, and activated some kind of Gas–Web trap, which again didn’t affect me. He approached with two menacing-looking Battle Horrors, provoking me and my companions to retreat to the third level. Both Davaeorn and his lackeys followed, so we ran to the fourth level again. Davaeorn was on our heels, but the Battle Horrors stayed behind. Khalid enraged (timely this occasion) so that both he and I were relatively safe from Daveorn’s magic. He must have noticed, because he only used damage spells, such as a Lightning Bolt (which caused Khalid to suffer moderate damage), and Cones of Cold that weren’t very upsetting. Khalid and I had to pierce two Stoneskins, before we could hurt our opponent, although before that a hit by Khalid with his Sword of Rage would horror Davaeorn and my frost/electricity arrows dealt some damage and complicated the wizard’s spellcasting. A Chromatic Orb by Faldorn, my ranged attacks and Khalid’s slashing attacks were too much for Davaeorn.

On his body and in his Chambers we found some interesting items. I had to quaff a potion of Fie Giant Strength to open the locks on a number of chests. [I failed to open only one the chests.] mainly scrolls, a suit of Full Plate mail, a Manual of Quickness of Action, and an Ioun Stone that protects against cold damage, a good item for Dynaheir.

We’re currently in Baldur’s Gate where the Priest of Gond has just raised my fallen comrades. It’s now time to rest and recover.

Ishtar, 5th BG1 update

Doing the city clockwise, we eliminated basilisk in the warehouse, killed High Priestess of Umbrelee

Baldr000.jpg

two other priests (I simply didn't feel like wasting much time on "quests")
Baldr001.jpg

followed that, we killed Ramazith, didn't bother releasing the captured Nymph
Baldr004.jpg

We soon decided to ramp up things in the city, and assault on Iron Throne was next. Got in uder invisibility cover, and Imoen summoned some meat to trigger the fight. A fireball was added just to make them hostile.

Baldr010.jpg

It didn't take long for the enemy group to break through our 5 summons limit, and attack our position. Imoen was under heavy attack, but she threw a Chaos via scroll, and dissapeared under invisibility cover. It's up to Minsc and Ishtar now.
Baldr013.jpg

One by one, enemies died.

Baldr015.jpg

Baldr017.jpg

There was but one close call with that damn fellow who loves to use Wand of the Heavens
Baldr019.jpg

But with enough healing potions, he was of little threat alone. Assassins wasted their backstabs on Minsc, who is immune to that kind of crap anyway.
Baldr020.jpg

We report back, and travel back home to Candlekeep (actually, we're teleported there). One notable thing was that we had to fight two Greater Dopplegangers instead of one while exiting the catacombs, but that only means more XP.
Dealt with Prat's gang  swiftly, while he himself was nowhere to be found.
Baldr025.jpg

Finally found him - as nonsensical as it may be, he got stuck in web from a trap we triggered.
Baldr027.jpg

Back to the city. Unlike in my previous runs, I decided to fight Cythandria. The screen doesn't show it, but it was a horrible battle alltogether - a lot of big healing potions used up, she loved to use Sunfire/Cone of Cold, similar to what Davaeorn does. I didn't use Pro Magic scroll here, which was a big mistake. Be that as it is, she lays dead, we're alive and all is peachy.
Baldr033.jpg

Splatted an Ogre en route to Undercellars..
Baldr034.jpg

For Kristyn and Slythe, I used summons. Few batches got Sunfired, but no harm done, until Kristyn came up to say hello- little did I know about Slythe's wherabouts.
Baldr037.jpg

He was right near hear apperantly. Got a few backstabs in, but died.
Baldr040.jpg

Krystin failed to save vs Wand of Paralyzation, and that was it. We rested prior to attending the ceremony.
Baldr042.jpg

For coronation, Imoen is to be invisible, Ishtar and Minsc are to be hasted.
Had a rather unlucky streak of misses early on, but we soon catch up.
Baldr045.jpg

Baldr048.jpg

Incredible but true, even Liia survived.
Baldr049.jpg

Used up two Pro Magic scroll to travel through the Maze unmolested by traps, then when everything was dead I sent Immy to disarm the traps. Rested upon arrival to the burial grounds.
Minsc dealt with the Iron Throne leftovers with Detonation arrows.
Baldr050.jpg

While Imoen took care of Tamoko with Lightning Wand.
Baldr053.jpg

Now it was time for end-game.

Ishtar, 6th and final BG1 update

The end game

We start as per usual - invisible, while meat gets summoned. We can't tank the goons, even when hasted Minsc has but 2 apr, Ishtar has 3 hasted but that's all the firepower we got - Imoen has other things to worry about than using her shortbow.

Baldr058.jpg

As soon as the goons reveal themselves and fire off the buffs, Imoen removes all invisibilites around her.
Baldr059.jpg

Angelo is crafty, and likes to use Dimension Door to close in on vulnerable characters. This was a close call, since he likes Chaos usage a lot.
Baldr061.jpg

Imoen summoned some Gnolls next, and tries to hold him with Paralysis wand. He resists, and his Chaos won't be interrupted now. Imoen's aura isn't clear, she can't drink Clarity/Magic Shielding for a few seconds.
Baldr063.jpg

Tymora favours us this day! She resists the effect.
Baldr064.jpg

While Angelo finds the second paralysis attempt to much to handle.
Baldr065.jpg

Gnolls kill themselves on Angelo's fireshield, but now the dogs chew his bones. His skeleton was dealt with using bows.
Baldr067.jpg

Imoen summons more and more monsters to the slaughter. They don't last longer than one round, since Tazok and Sarevok are usually killing them in one or two hits.
In addition, a split second was the difference between life and death here - you can see that she did use her invisibility potion, but albeit too late - we loose all of our spellcasting apart 1xcure medium wounds, Shield of Faith and Armor of Faith which Ishtar has memorized. Imoen had 3 fully charged wands of Monster Summoning (I bought 2 from Sorcerous Sundries), and a number of scrolls as well.
Baldr072.jpg

Minsc swithes to his bow with Detonation arrows, gulps an Oil of Speed and goes on a total rampage.
Semaj is the first to go down.
Baldr076.jpg

He has no more Detonation, but Acid arrows will have to do now. Tazok downed.
Baldr077.jpg

Minsc uses up all his arrows. It's melee time, Diramid and Sarevok are still alive.
Ishtar pre-buffs with spells he has, says a prayer...
Baldr080.jpg

And it's go time. Diramid is dealt with within record time. Somewhere around here, Ishtar gained level 9 (+8hp).
Baldr081.jpg

We now focus on skeleton warrior, drinking up healing potions as Sarevok punches through our armor.
Baldr083.jpg

Few rounds later, few Regeneration potions used, and Sarevok gives his end game speech.
Baldr084.jpg

Ishtar will enter the BG2-No Reload soon.

@Blackraven

GJ vs Natasha - she's on par with Davaeorn, if not worse. I avoid her alltogether. What is your Weidu?

@Aasim: That was SCS BG 1? Only 3 characters? Sounds like you had some good focus - hope you can keep it up in Amn.

SCSv28 on BGT. My Weidu is a few screens behind. Tbh, I found 3 character party to be far easier than 6 slotted party  - so few characters to protect, and quite fast level-ups, Imoen finished up at 10th in mage class, Minsc and Ishtar 9th . I will play with 6 in BG2, albeit only Humans are allowed to join.

@Aasim, thank you, it was a fun fight (indeed more challenging than Davaeorn), and congratulations on a very clean run! Good luck in BG2 :)

@Blackraven - interesting Weidu there - no cap for Celestials - that's huge! The damage I could do with 5 planetars or devas...in my installs I can only have 1 present in a fight at a time - this is vanilla behavior.
