I took Corey's advice and killed all but Sarevok (I think) Horrendous battle! All of us very madly mutilated due to not taking enough potions.

I thought that we could just take on Tazok to start with, but they all attacked. :( Faithful was Faithful unto death. We decided that the best option was to leave, get everyone healthgy again and return.

Next time a bit easier perhaps.

The Grey Clan Episode would have given another tome to boost intelligence which in my party is sadly lacking.

However, I think that we will restock and return to Sarevok.

I'm very sorry to hear that Wise. I think when my paladins took him on we had one character who had the following: 1) best missile defence 2) best fire defence 3) haste boots 4) Protection from magic scroll. This character would show themselves by dispelling Sarevok's haste. Once dispelled, then ran in a circle around the center area (and kept running for whole fight). The missile and fire defence protects against Angelo's arrows and the haste boots to get away from Tazok/Sarevok. Then other 5 paladins then pumped Sarevok with their best ammunition until Sarevok gave up. Would this strategy work for you?

Upon my return I only had sarevok to fight and so it wasn't too difficult. As Sarevok hadn't talked to us, the door was still open and there were no enemies on the return journey, or when we returned. We paladins had taken our vow of poverty seriously having less than 150 gp at the end. We had far more potions than we needed. Went from one extreme to the other.

I'm wondering: what were your CHA and your rep when Dynaheir left you? I remember slaying Shaldrissa with my Fallen Beastmistress at rep 4, but she was wearing Lord Foreshadow's Ring of Human Influence which sets CHA to 18.

Reputation 18, Charisma 16 (natural 14 + Algernon's cloak)
Usually when characters leave because of reputation issues, they don't turn hostile, they just drop their goodbye comment and leave (still with blue circle). I can imagine Ajantis wanting to fight, and maybe Minsc if he has personal reasons, though.

Congrats to your succesful Undead Hunter, btw.
Such a great kit for the early game, with the immunity to Hold. My very first attempt at no-reloading (vanilla in both games) was an Undead Hunter. He made it past the Underdark but died in Umar Hills in chapter 6 (three simultaneous ADHWs from the mages accompanying Darcin Cole).

Glasya, half-elven Sorceress with random spell picks, adventuring in chapter 7 with Branwen, Minsc, Imoen, Coran and Xzar

Durlag's Tower continued

Early part on doppelganger level went really well. The first five are just regular greater doppelgangers - you should just make sure to stay out of the AoE of the spells (Fireball, Stinking Cloud, Cloudkill) that the Durlag apparition drops. For the throne room, I had my party in the lever room and Imoen (with speed boots) picked up Kiel's Helmet and ran.

Then comes the spooky arrival of the first shifters. That happens when a character is near the back end of the torture room. I must say I had SO much trouble with the first two of these. The Durlag form is absolutely brutal in melee (hits Branwen's AC-10 like it's nothing, and we couldn't seem to hit him at all - I could only damage that form with magic). Then it seems to be very random if shifting form heals them or not. Here, I had been stripped of my buffs (Remove Fear on all + CC on Branwen). Branwen has recast Remove Fear and is tanking a doppelganger without having confusion protection:

Glasya129dangerousdoppelgangers_zpsa022b

Still, that form is nowhere near as good a fighter as the Kiel or Durlag forms, so they never hit her and eventually went down. For safety, I had Glasya hang a bit in the back. Xzar pumped out Wand of Frost shots as fast as he could and Branwen used a couple of Firebreath potions.

Imoen looted the room past the teleport device. I have always thought that the Cloudkill trap in the room with the exit wardstone is unavoidable, but this time she detected a fat square on the floor before going in there.

Imoen had 90% fire resistance in the fire/ghast passage. Here is something I haven't seem before:
Glasya130strangeghast_zps470f69e0.jpg

One of those ghasts must have tripped the false exit trap because they were soon attacking skeleton warriors as well. The dwarven doom guards fought back, but the skeleton warriors did not. Imoen scored the kill on only one of them. She opened up the exit room to have more room to move when backstabbing the dwarven guards. No problem.

Since I had so much trouble with the shifters, I had Imoen throw fire potions at the three by the bridges. Funny result partway through this:

Glasya131Kieliscrazy_zpse58792e4.jpg

That was because of 'Morale failure: berserk'.

Since nobody can cast Invisibility, Imoen drank a potion, then set out to de-trap the maze garden. Got most of them, but tripped the last one. Confusion trap, and she failed the save.

Uh...

This is BAD. There is a greater ghoul just there that she is bound to attack pretty soon. Branwen and Coran used oils of speed (I did remember to take off Brawen's free action ring first) and ran towards Imoen. Imoen did attack, and her hit was pretty cool:

Glasya132Imoenconfusedbutuseful_zps41a65

Branwen to the rescue...

Glasya133Branwenhelps_zps74638cad.jpg

...soaking up hits and firebreathing. Coran advances, which is badly needed because this is turning into a freakin´ ghoul convention:

Glasya134GhoulArmy_zps9f352472.jpg

Branwen suddenly suffers several quick hits, and I let her run around a bit:

Glasya135Branwenontherun_zps190ae375.jpg

Putting the free action ring back on after getting hasted seems to really have worked in her favour. Both effects were working. Awesome. Minsc put a third oil to use and joined the fight. Imoen saved, phew!

The rest of this level went very smoothly. Two examples:
Glasya136Turning_zpsff611495.jpg
Glasya137wyverns_zps12154c5b.jpg

Great find in the maze garden container: TWO Cloudkill scrolls! Just wow.

I somewhat agree with Minsc here:

Glasya138BoocommentsonSlimes_zpsf486cebe

but I really miss her Invisibility spells more. And if she were still with us, she could be casting Cloudkills by now...

My usual electricity + inviso buff for running past here:

Glasya139chessboard_zpse6eed9b3.jpg

Bad play against the spiders caused Xzar to get poisoned by a phase spider. His 'aura' did not quite clear in time for an elixir of health to take effect (it felt really close). Well, we are in here for loot but mainly to train him, so Branwen thought he should at least be alive when we kill sleeping sword spiders:

Glasya140XzarlivestogetsomeXP_zpsb28dba7

Main area on the level went mostly OK, but when it really mattered, I screwed up:

Glasya141Graelattacks_zpsc9739329.jpg

I have 10+ freedom potions. Use them before the fight, at least on Glasya, Idiot!

"Get away from Glasya, you filthy beast! Yes, attack the priestess!"
Glasya142dieGrael_zps7a3a8d85.jpg

Geez, I've lost count on how many times Glasya's been below half life.

Some nice finds on this floor, like Large Shield +2, Staff Mace +2 and Staff of Striking.

We buffed, set some traps, summoned skellies and chose a battle ground. Then I went up onto the chess board level again, and probably stayed there a fraction of a second too long because all but 4 or so pieces followed downstairs. It got crowded fast, and I felt I had to save Glasya, Minsc and Xzar with invisibility potions:
Glasya143chesschaos_zpsf19ceab2.jpg

Eventually, we could all break free from the crowd. Xzar and Glasya took the long tour around, via the rune carpet room, etc. Branwen took point in the doorway:

Glasya144morechessfighting_zpsf69d5ec9.j

These chess pieces have an uncanny ability to be more annoying and dangerous then I really think they should be able to. Not King or Queen this time, but mainly the Rooks (they just LOVED to shoot arrows at poor Coran) and a Bishop that cast Flame Strike on Imoen and Turned many of my skeletons to dust. (I think the chess pieces are neutral (constructs).)

The last part of the fight was pretty chaotic, mostly because I thought both spellcasters had wasted most of the advanced stuff, and I was a bit tired which led to a bit of 'Gung Ho' attitude that Branwen could tank nearly anything. Amazingly, she could (Cloak of Balduran's MR saved her from two potentially nasty spells), and could also deliver some scroll-based pain:

Glasya145evenmorechessfighting_zps412b58

Yes, Branwen was MVP in this fight, but Minsc was great in the mop-up as well, doing massive damage to Rook, Bishop and Queen with ice arrows and +2 arrows.

I buffed Coran with many potions. Decided to not smash the mirror this time. Unlike vanilla, the SCS mirror fiends do not give any XP (although their summons might). Coran opened up with a backstab with Staff of Striking. Not great, 40 or so damage. Then he drank an inviso potion. Demonknight walked into view of my party. Yikes.

I brought Coran back to us (he was blindingly fast) and moved us out of the Remove Magic coming at us. I waited outside, ready to dart in if the demonknight would follow. It did not. I entered again - Remove Magic - get out. And again a few more times. Seriously? Looks like he does that at will. Hm, he isn't immune to magical ammunition, is he? I mean, it takes him a while to cast that spell, and it travels slowly.

Haha, what a weakness. Yeah, I know it's cheesy to abuse the game engine like this, but that whole creature is cheesy, considering the powers it has against a party of this level.

It isn't even poison immune:

Glasya146DEATHWELCOMESYOU_zps4de4cba3.jp

Xzar has passed level 6 a while ago (another max HP roll - what a freaky series or rolls he's had!) and is less than 2000 exp from level 7. Looks like he will have Malison in the Palace fight. If he can survive the Ulgoth's Beard finale, that is. I am starting to run low on invisibility potions. Will check every shop for more of them now, I think.

It's actually better if they do turn hostile, as at least you get their equipment. I learned years ago not to let them just leave. If they have good equipment, that can be disastrous. When I first started playing it was always Xzar and Montaron who left. At first I didn't understand why. I had brought them to Nashkel where they wanted to be. It took me ages to understand about reputation. :(

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 47 - (update 1)
Schwarz, human undead hunter (Grond0) & Wroth, human druid (Gate70)

After falling at the last hurdle with the dwarven fighters we were quickly remounted with this pairing.  The names (black and angry) may indicate a slight dis-satisfaction with the outcome of our previous attempt that failed at the Throne.  However, it didn't take long to make some decent progress with the new couple.

The route so far has been pretty standard - Shoal, Beregost, Nashkel, basilisks, FAI, Cloudpeaks being the highlights.  Most encounters have been pretty straight-forward so far, although that was not the case in the basilisk area.  The first problem came when Schwarz was attacking basilisks in melee and Wroth joined in.  She was using a dagger and the short range that has meant it was sometimes tricky for Schwarz to maintain the basilisk's focus on him.  Twice one turned to try and melee Wroth, but fortunately that meant they were not using a gaze attack and she was able to retreat unharmed.  The next problem was when the duo were trying to shoot Mutamin without letting him talk, but he managed to take a short cut through a tree to speak to Schwarz an instant before dying from a dagger already launched by Wroth.  At the time Wroth was quite close to Mutamin's pet basilisk and failed to run away in time to avoid a gaze attack.

Her statue survived and Schwarz was able to go and buy a scroll to restore her.  However, when she rejoined the party she had lost all her XP since the last game save.  That happens every now and then with multiplayer crashes and deaths and we tend not to bother adjusting for it later in the game.  However, in this case it made a big difference in levels so we shadow-keepered back the missing XP.

After spending a while fiddling around with that I wasn't concentrating properly and walked down in sight of Kirian's party before we were prepared for action.  Schwarz took a potion of speed and made a run for it - getting well away from the casters before being affected by a rigid thinking from Peter.  He had reasonable armour and was able to fight off Lindin, while Wroth permanently discouraged Baerin from following further with a call lightning.  A bit more lightning and entangles helped finish off the casters as well without further real alarm.

Stats:

Schwarz, undead hunter 5, 59 HPs, 91 kills
Wroth, druid 6, 50 HPs, 22 kills, 0 deaths

Both characters have good HPs at this stage, which should hopefully stand them in good stead for a long run.

@CKT, why do you want to get rid of Quayle? Isn't he the perfect support caster for your party?

I handicap my 'specialist' mages by playing that they can only write/memorize spells from their own school.  They can cast from scrolls for magic from other schools but their 'guild' doesn't allow them to learn from other schools of magic (SELF IMPOSED RESTRICTION!) I have not been able to find a scroll of 'Improved Invisibility' so his 4th Level Spell slots are empty.  For that matter, I'd need 'Shadow Door' @ level 5 & 't'aint found that one neither, Jethro.'

Anyway, unlike Enchanter, Conjurer, Necromancer, Quayle as an Illusionist ain't bringing much but 'Blindness' to the table.  I am getting better @ using 'Invisibility 10' Radius' to make all of us invisible so I'm training myself to make him more effective.  I use him w/'Mage Defensive AI' so he casts 'Invisibility', 'Mirror Image', 'Blur', 'Reflected Image' on himself & uses sling stones to help out from a ranged weapons.  Need to upgrade him to a +1 Sling & find some +1/2 sling stones.  Viconia has 20 or each but only uses them for special fights.  Also/w Hard Times enchanted Sling's & Sling Stones just aren't on the shelves like they are in vanilla, there's a few but usually maybe 30 & that's it.

Anyway, the plan was always to add Skie to pick up the Thieving duties & dual Safana to Mage.  She's got a 16 Intel now, so a Tome of Clear Thought will get her to where she can do that.  Had REALLY hoped the ToCT would be under Candlekeep but w/Randomizer installed I'm clueless now cause it moves those things to places they normally aren't @.  Thinking somewhere in DsT but not sure.

Gotta think ahead to BGII...no! Stop!

Don't do that!

One edventure at a time.  I still have Durlag's Tower, Aec'Letec, that crazy Balduran Island and, oh, yeah, freakin' Sarevok.  Ugh....

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 47 - (update 2)
Schwarz, human undead hunter (Grond0) & Wroth, human druid (Gate70)

There was more good progress today, though again with one dodgy moment.

With most of the wilderness areas milked for high value XP and their reputation stuck at 20, the duo wandered up to Ulgoth's Beard to buy a couple of items there.  Wroth practiced her lightning spells on battle horrors blocking the way to the tome at Durlag's Tower, before they moved on to the Nashkel mine.  Mulahey failed to confuse Wroth and his hold person spells were doomed to failure against Schwarz.

The amazons were picked off by lightning and nymphs before reporting in to the Nashkel mayor.  Schwarz then dodged out of the inn to avoid a rigid thinking from Neira and explained to Wroth that none of her other spells would be a problem for him (though they might be a problem for her).  Tranzig pointed the way to the bandit camp, where Schwarz smacked down the archers while a nymph disabled the mage.

Most of the Cloakwood encounters were bypassed, although Wroth couldn't resist swapping lightning spells with Seniyad (after casting protection from lightning on Schwarz).  On to the Cloakwood Mine where the plan was to dominate Genthore and get him to attack the mages.  Gentore was duly put under the influence, but refused to attack the mages.  In frustration Wroth moved slightly too far and activated Drasus, who sent everyone (including Genthore) hostile.  Things looked iffy when Schwarz was confused just before he could finish off Drasus and then both he and Wroth were scared.  Fortunately the nymph got a perfect response in by successfully confusing both mages and Genthore, while Schwarz (despite his disabilities) managed to finish off Drasus.  The duo will invade the mine next time.

Stats:

Schwarz, undead hunter 7, 81 HPs, 259 kills
Wroth, druid 8, 59 HPs, 53 kills, 0 deaths

I’ve kinda done a ‘U-turn’ south down the Sword Coast, then east to the Valley of the Tombs, then back north passing through the Lonely Peaks before heading east from Beregost to see the ruins of the Ulcaster School. There really isn’t much there anymore, a dry river gorge that had no interesting foes. I counted 12-18 Hobgoblins & Hobgoblin Elites w/short bows, ~ 12 Skeletons w/ Warhammer  or Composite Longbow, some Kobolds I think & some Gnome, Furret, that tried to sell me a gym worth 2 gps for 500, maybe 1k. I had him killed & we took the gym.

We ascended the hill from the dry river gorge to where the actual school once stood where now are but ruins. Their I encountered six Skeletons w/Composite Longbows, some Kobolds & Kobold Commando’s w/their short bows & Arrows of Fire and best of all, three Ghouls that I was able to kill for my Queen. I’ve still not dreamt of her or heard from her but I sense I am in her will.  I was loaded down, as were all of us so we decided to head back but not before we encountered a Wraith named Icharyd & some Kobolds running around him too. I crushed him & snatched his enchanted Flail to sell for loot.

KILLING NASTY GHOULS TO SACRIFICE FOR MY QUEEN MALCANTHET!

On return, the Ulcaster Ruins were infested w/wolves but it was obvious from the carcasses of dead adventurers that the place could be deadly. After killing a Mustard jelly & an Ochre Jelly, oh & a nest of six Huge Spiders it was purely wolf hunting. Safana did a masterful job of keeping me safe from booby traps.

GUESS THIS VAMPIRIC WOLF WAS THE BADDEST DUDE IN THE DUNGEON.

I long to commune w/my beautiful Queen Malcanthet & I pray daily that she will reveal herself to me in her consummate & beautiful, perfect evil & chaos. Still, I march on, next to the Halving Village.

Dazzle - elven wild mage (update 1)

After yet another self-inflicted wild defeat the next contender is Dazzle.  Rather than spend time rolling up my normal top-quality stats I've accepted the first decent natural roll.

I'll see how far I can get taking as close to zero risks with her as possible.  She's not got familiar invisibility available, so that won't be quite as easy as with some past characters.

Dazzle - elven wild mage (update 2)

She travelled to the FAI, keeping off the main roads to avoid a bandit ambush, to pick up the Ring of Wizardry - that funded the sleep wand.  Using that, darts and with the quasit acting as tank or distraction, she made her way south to Nashkel.

She then picked up the wand of frost from the Nashkel mine, bought the wand of fire at Durlag's Tower and picked up the wand of monster summoning from the valley of the tombs.  Using those resources she's been able to make rapid progress; up to level 6 and with her reputation at 20.  With her poor strength (and no bag of holding this run), carrying loot can be a problem and she recently travelled on the main road for the first time, using 3 potions of strength, in order to get Samuel safely back to the FAI for her final reputation increase.

Further north she's just bought the ring of invisibility at Ulgoth's Beard.  As promised it's been a risk-free run so far.  Although I didn't start out aiming to avoid any damage in the run, she's not even been attacked yet (she's been lucky that only 1 ambush with an archer has triggered) and the ring gives a realistic chance of continuing to avoid damage.

Traveling almost due east toward Gullykin, I suddenly felt let to turn more east southeast & I knew I was, instead, going to Firewine Bridge. My subordinates & I were attacked by six/eight Xvarts on the way which were dispatched like Gnats. I often wonder if humanoid creatures like these have any intelligence whatsoever when they mindlessly attack a party as heavily armed & obviously superior as mine…w/a presence as overwhelming as I am.

Upon arrival @ Firewine Bridge I realized immediately that my Queen had me travel there first b/c there was a Cleric of Ilmatar proselytizing & inviting others to follow that ‘boring & pointless God.’ I had him murdered after listening to his pitch until I felt like gagging. Having completed what I sensed Malcanthet desired I accomplish there, I decided I needed to make a sacrifice of his just as I feel compelled to do w/Gnolls, Flinds, Ghouls & Ghasts since they serve Demon Lords she despises. In this case, w/o a word, I knew telepathically that she wanted me to go to the bridge ruins & when I saw him, I saw him one to be sacrificed. A minor gods’ priest. I piled up some rocks, cut him into quarters & piled sage brush enough to cause a huge fire & offer him, quartered, up to my Queen.

583bc07edcc92221f7dfc34b1ef708.jpg
EVIDENTLY BOTH MALCANTHET & SHAR WANTED THIS GUY DUSTED!

1061745cb7b9460e2e9706ceb6e18d.jpg
NOW TO COLLECT SOME GOOD STONES & BRUSH & QUARTER THIS GUY FOR SACRIFICE TO MALCANTHET!

I set about reconnoitering the rest of the bridge ruins. While doing so I had my minions kill 12 zombies, four Skeleton’s w/Composite Longbows & nine Kobolds w/Short bows.

While crossing the bridge I met a Bard who offered to sing for me. I recall when I saw Malcanthet in my dream she appeared as if she was in her plane of the abyss (number 570), Shendilavri, & I distinctly remember ‘haunting @ erotic melodies’ of Bards in the background as she revealed her beautiful, perfect chaos & evil. Hence, now I’m drawn to any Bard I see, aching to hear something, anything like those I heard in my dream…but alas, the sounds, I hear in Faerun do not compare in the least, so I fear it will only be when she brings me finally to Shedilavri that I will hear them again. Oh my Queen, when can I be in your presence for eternity?

ccd8b9b99aa320dd1dd797802bca83.jpg
UGH! I'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I'M IN DEAD TO HEAR MELODIES LIKE RESONATE IN SHENDILAVRI!

Not unlike Ulcaster, the bridge spanned a dry river bed that is now parched w/the sun, scrub grass being the only vegetation. I ventured into the dry river bed & directed our killing six War Dogs & six Skeleton’s w/Maces & Small Shields. We met a crazy woman, a mage maybe, & Shar-Teel told her so, so the lady left. I actually tried to kill her just in case she was a mage w/something useful but she was out of reach quickly.

Key Event: Some loudmouth came up to us braggin’ about being the fastest sword in Faerun or something stupid. This one was tailor-made for Shar-Teel so I just pulled everyone back & she wailed on him like a sparring dummy.  My woman can kick some serious butt!

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 47 - (3rd and final update)
Schwarz, human undead hunter (Grond0) & Wroth, human druid (Gate70)

This pairing continued to perform well yesterday to see Sarevok off and have just arrived in Jon's dungeon.

Their session started with heading down to Daveorn in the Cloakwood Mine - with only minimal fighting on the way.  Battle horrors were pulled back one at a time and chopped up - it helped they needed criticals to hit Schwarz :D.  Fire and lightning protection, plus the Greenstone Amulet, made Schwarz pretty immune to Daveorn's spells and the mage died before summons could even arrive to help.

In the City they picked up the tomes, along with the Helm of Balduran and the Gauntlets of Ogre Power.  The only slight glitch during that period was that Schwarz was scared by Drelik while getting the Helm of Glory.  However, Wroth's summons soaked up most of the bard's spell damage, before Wroth himself finished things with his trusty poison dagger.  There was an amusing moment when Schwarz couldn't quite finish off Larze before having to withdraw to be safe.  Wroth said he would try to occupy the ogre for a second or two - immediately before chunking him with his first attack.

For the Iron Throne Schwarz was buffed up and attacked on his own initially.  Wroth then arrived and used a couple of nymphs to support.  Zhalimar was the only one to put up real resistance, but he died almost immediately after one of the nymphs got the doppleganger to switch sides.

In Candlekeep the tombs were looted using a green scroll of magic protection.  That was joined by the Ring of Free Action for the fight with Prat (to protect against Bor's stunning darts) and another green scroll to fight past the basilisks.

After buying up a few more potions the duo sought out Slythe.  He got hit hard by a dispelling arrow while running after Schwarz and didn't last long.  A dire wolf then encouraged Krystin to cloudkill Quenash to get the Cloak of Balduran.  At the palace we belatedly remembered the problem of using nymphs here when one of the dopplegangers was dominated.  Fortunately it didn't attack before it could be moved (and therefore didn't turn the guards hostile).  Liia died, but Belt survived comfortably enough.

Elemental protection was used in setting the traps off in the maze.  The Undercity Party was attacked by Schwarz - buffed in order that exploding arrows were just hurting the party.

Sarevok was pulled away from his companions with a dispelling arrow as usual.  He ran into animal summons, doom, an insect plague and a couple of summon insects.  Schwarz just added the icing on the cake as he quickly fell.

Stats:

Schwarz, undead hunter 8, 94 HPs, 361 kills
Wroth, druid 10, 67 HPs, 64 kills, 0 deaths

Dazzle - elven wild mage (3rd and final update)

Annoyingly, Dazzle took damage attacking Kirian's party after killing all the basilisks and Mutamin.  She had just fireballed Lindin, Peter and Baerin from out of sight range (after Kirian's death) and got a text message that Lindin was attacking.  Baerin had been stuck in an entangle, so I wasn't surprised that he wasn't attacking and hung around a fraction of a second longer than I would have if expecting him.  He did turn up with no delay and managed a shot before Dazzle could move out of range again. On the plus side that meant she had no incentive to travel invisibly (which is quite hard to do just with the ring - invisibility only lasting for 12 hours).

There was another nasty moment shortly after that when a sirine ignored the quasit and summons and targeted Dazzle with a charm - fortunately she had taken the precaution earlier of buying a potion of magic blocking at High Hedge.

She cleared the remaining wilderness areas without trouble and investigated the bandit camp invisibly.  Invisibility also saw her through the Cloakwood and a couple of fireballs and some gnolls got her the boots of speed.  She couldn't open the door near Rill, so used a potion of absorption while going invisibly down to Daveorn.  Scorchers killed the battle horrors before a potion of magic blocking saw off traps, lightning and fireball.  The green amulet protected against hold person leaving Daveorn helpless against wand blasts.  That got Dazzle her final BG1 level.

She quickly moved on to Candlekeep, before realising that she still had some unfinished business in the City after she started vomiting!  After looting the tombs and receiving a significant benefit from the strength tome (carrying capacity up from 30 to 50) she left invisibly.

Back in the City Marek was scorched before Dazzle learnt the rest of the available spells she wanted.  Slythe was pulled away from Krystin and killed by summons (out of sight of Dazzle).  At the palace her improved invisible spell on Belt was successful and I decided to rely on that for protection and stay downstairs while stunning / paralysing the dopplegangers.  However, Dazzle failed to stun any of the dopplegangers with her darts, despite attacking 4 times a round with dexterity 25 and a potion of power active and only paralysed one late on in the combat.  I was aware that Belt had taken more damage than I would like, but tried to tough things out.  With only 2 active dopplegangers left though (both just clinging on to life), Belt decided to depart this mortal coil.
Belt.jpg

That was a shame.  It's a while since I lost that battle; I thought a successful improved invisibility would make victory certain enough that the risk of casting any more spells would not be justified.  However, it would appear victory was not certain enough  and I probably should have used more of the spells that Dazzle had memorised - like malison and/or chaos.

That's rough, Grond0. I know you said you were trying to play it safe this run, but sounds like it was a bit too safe!

I disposed of the bounty from my raid outside and around the external Firewine Bridge & then returned prepared to descend into the Firewine Ruins. The tight hallways were neatly cut generally 10x10 w/a few larger, main, areas. I used a strategy w/Safana out in front, reconnoitering & Finding/Removing Traps usually an entire hallway @ a time, so that movement was as safe for me as possible. She used three different Potions of Invisibility & Quayle cast Invisibility on her once. She would return to Shar-Teel & Kagain to warn them of danger when enemies were out front but did not engage them so as to keep her Invisibility active for as long as possible The main body of the group was Shar-Teel & Kagain, she w/her Boots of Grounding, Ring of Free Action & Full Plate Armor; Kagain w/his Girdle of Piercing, Ring of Protection +1 & Plate Mail are well protected against frontal threats. I, in all my powerful glory followed shortly behind them. Quayle, almost always Invisible, trailed a short way behind me & Viconia provided rear guard to keep bands of Kobold & Kobold Commando’s from coming up on a soft target from behind. Safana used Potions of Invisibility & Find/Remove Traps to great effect, to the point that she’d already disarmed them before the rest of us ever came thru, so we never knew they’d been there. She did ‘set off’ a couple of traps but w/Potions of Healing @ the ready she overcame the damage she did take & though we heard the sounds up front, we never actually saw anything & she didn’t say anything, just continued about her business w/expert professionalism. When she asked for a couple of more Potions of Healing to restock her aid kit, everyone knew why. About Aid Kits: I have everyone but Shar-Teel & I carry five Potions of Healing & two Antidotes in their ‘quick item’ slot for emergency use. The last slot is reserved for a potion, scroll, item that suits their profession best. Shar-Teel & I carry Elixir’s of Health in our Quick Item Slots (to kill two birds w/one stone) which leaves us room for two special items – although she & I also have Potions of Healing & Antidotes in our packs so as not to waste the more expensive EoH if a battle is thru & we have time to get to the latter.

SAFANA DOIN' HER THING...BUT SHE CONTINUES TO REBUFF MY ADVANCES!

And so the Firewine Ruins were easily overcome but going was slow, the only real enemies being individual Kobold’s & Kobold Commando’s from a war band whose leader was yet TBD. We also killed a Ghost Knight of some kind, & thinking we might be rewarded w/something of value returned its ruined armor to a group of six harmless Ghost Knights we’d passed in the tunnels earlier. They gave me nothing for my efforts & could I have, I’d have killed them for certain.

Key Event: Safana returned from one of her excursion’s to tell Shar-Teel & Kagain that she’d seen a mage-type, an Ogrillon & a Kobold Commando @ a ‘T’ in the tunnels ahead.  Mages in a dungeon are always bad news b/c for all their Intelligence, they seem just fine w/casting a Lightning Bolt & taking everyone they can out, including themselves, w/impunity. I used a Scroll of Magic Protection & I thought about giving one to Shar-Teel but she doesn’t mean that much to me so she used a Potion of Heroism, while Kagain became Enraged. Quayle cast Horror down to land at the intersection of the ‘T’ and Viconia cast Silence 15’ Radius right on top of it. Then Shar-Teel & Kagain charged into melee while I sat back & let them do what I have them here to do – kill my foes. Quayle moved up to use Blindness where he could & I lost track of Viconia. I waited till the battle was decided before endangering myself, even though I heard Shar-Teel holler, “Ogre Mage!” I was still surrounded by Protection from Magic. By the time I got down there, I attacked the Ogre Mage w/confidence. Safana was in an alcove & moved around to back-stab him as I attacked from in front. I did kill him & we ended up mopping up a stray Kobold & another Ogrillon before it became apparent that there was no more to the Firewine Ruins. I descended some stairs that ended up leading to a Hobbit home. It became apparent he was in cahoots w/the Ogre Mage. I killed him & we cleaned him out before emerging in Gullykin as the ‘heroes’ we are.  Ha-ha!

I arrived in Gullykin & found it a sleepy, boring little village. They have a priest that venerates some Hobbit deity not worth honoring by even writing its name in ink, if I’d cared to find out the name to begin w/.  He does have Elixirs of Health & Potions of Healing which I will likely buy some of before I leave this place & knock the dust off my boots as I do. I’ll probably grab up a few Antidotes too.  He has no Cleric scrolls other than Stone to Flesh.

I got out of the village proper & had opportunity to kill & sacrifice three Ghast’s to my Queen. My minions are used to this by now & dare not challenge me in the least. I’ve not come across a Cult of Malcanthet so I honor her anytime she brings me the honor of killing the subjects of her enemies be they Gnolls, Flinds, Ghouls or Ghasts.

THREE GHAST'S FOR SACRIFICE TO MY QUEEN IN THE ABYSS!

Key Event: I continued a short ways after finishing my sacrifice to Malcanthet, when I was hailed by a knight of some kind who was leading a group of four assassin’s looking for you know who? He showed up just in time b/c I was getting lonely since it’s been a while since that group of amazon chick’s attacked me.  This was a brilliant battle if I do say so myself. Safana was Hidden in Shadow & moved out way right & then circled back behind Molkar. Quayle used the one & only charge he had in his Wand of Monster Summoning & hit the jackpot w/two huge Ogres. Viconia knocked the first guy we’d seen out cold w/a Command spell & I hollered @ Kagain to finish him while he was down. Shar-Teel headed in to kick butt wherever she could find it while I tried a Horror spell to no effect Then seeing Safana in place for a back stab & the Ogre’s keeping the three living assassin’s occupied facing north, I moved in behind them to attack from behind too. Just then I saw him, Quayle had lined up perpendicular to the three assassins who were standing side by side. He had his Wand of Lightning & was aiming to rake a bolt through all three of them. I hollered for everyone to step back three steps, just as Quayle fired off the wand, killing one of the assassin’s. We all waited b/c there was no way to know if it would come back but then…it was back dead on the same line. We all backed off an additional step & the bolt killed another assassin as it passed through again. Then I ordered everyone in on the one that was still alive…Molkar.  After all was said & done, I figure there was another knight, a priest & a mage in addition to Molkar. Praise be to the Demon Queen of the Succubi.

CHALLENGE ANSWERED! WHO'S NEXT?

The remainder of the area around Gullykin yielded two Dread Wolves, two Wolves, six Kobold’s & six Xvart’s. I headed for the priest, who happens to manage the winery too, & bought four Elixir’s of Health, one Potion of Healing, four Antidotes & a Scroll of Stone to Flesh.  Then I headed back to Beregost to sell the pitiful bounty those assassins were carrying.

Treasure of Note (Gold 15,507) just Splint Mail, 2 sets, Chain Mail, 1 set & a few weapons and gold coins. Pathetic. Somewhere we found a Garnet Gem, I guess on one of the Ghasts.

Current Disposition: In Beregost, currently in the Red Sheaf.

Zart - elven wild mage (update 1)

I found myself at a loose end early this morning, so decided to generate another wild mage.  This one is an entirely random character and the lack of constitution bonus may ultimately prove to be painful ...

@Grond0: Chaotic Neutral alignment could fit a bit better for an *entirely random character*, imo  ;)  At least she has just enough INT to use wands and Familiar could *soften* a lacking of CON bonus a bit. In any case, all the best for the new Lady of Murder!  :)

While installing my new mod set-up for Amn, I thought that I would try a new type of character for me. A neutral evil thief dualled to conjurer.

This is how it turned out. First and last post.

Diary of Shadow, the Neutral Evil Tiefling Thief

Str 18, Dex 19, Con 18, Int 19 Wis 8, Cha 3.

The first really evil thing that I did was to kill Firebead. This was for four reasons. Firstly, he had given me one measly potion of healing in return for her doing him a favour. The second reason was that I had taken a fancy to his robe. The third reason was that I had wrongly thought that he had far more scrolls in his possession than he had and fourthly because he refused point blank to teach me magic though I was well able to learn.

I headed southwards after his assassination, largely because Gorion had told me to go northwards. I was sick of being told what to do, and since his death, I was free to do what I wanted.

I headed to Beregost where I bought a better sling and went to the temple where I gave some gold to restore my reputation somewhat. I was quite flush as I had stolen a gem which I was able to sell for no less than 1000 gold pieces.

I then plundered the chests in Beregost and pick-pocketed a cloak from Algernon. I was attacked by an assassin called Karlat and used the spell blindness that all the Tiefling can cast. I was slowly killing Karlat when an overly helpful cleric called Finch joined in. If she had used her sling, she might have survived but her heart was bigger than her brain and Karlat killed her. You can be sure that I will never do anything so foolish.

I then decided to head southward towards Nashkel. Having thought about it, I later decided that I had probably decided to do that out of sheer stubbornness.

On my trip I found a pair of bracers and was given a ring by Lord Foreshadow. However, upon hearing of demon infested mines, I decided that Gorion’s idea might not be so bad after all. However at the Friendly Arms Inn I was attacked by yet another assassin, and if it had not been for the help of the guards, I might well have been killed.

I then dual-classed to become a conjurer. I was glad to find that helping Joia raised my reputation as I had hoped. Much cheaper than the temple! However I did give 500 gold pieces to the temple. When I slept. I gained a healing spell.

That will make life both easier and cheaper.

I then headed northwards where I agreed to help Sonner, but later when I met their enemy Tenya, decided that she would make a much more useful ally. I took the reward that Sonner was going to give me by force! I blinded him and his friends so that they couldn’t run away and then used throwing knives.

This resulted in me becoming a level 2 conjurer. After killing an Ankheg using blindness plus throwing knives, I am well on the way to becoming a level 3 conjurer. It was expensive since I had to use 59 knives, but worth it for the experience.

Just pretending to be nice to Marl and Firebead was enough to become a level 3 conjurer. It seems that somebody paid to get Firebead raised from the dead. It may be that he didn’t recognise me, now that I’m a conjurer and not a thief, or it may be that he didn’t know who killed him due to the blindness spell that I cast on him before killing him, but he was remarkably friendly. Killing him last time was easy experience with no risk, so I may kill him again if I get a decent reputation.

I went to retrieve Perdue’s lost sword and whilst doing that met up with Melicamp. Sadly he died so the only reward I got was a chicken dinner and getting my throwing knife supply replenished. At the moment however what I want is experience so that I can become powerful.

I agreed to help Silke but when I saw the quality of her staff decided that I must have it. I blinded her which clearly had an effect on her aim as the lightning bolt she cast missed me and killed one of her enemies. As well as her staff, I gained three potions from this encounter, but some of them are useless to me.

I increased both my experience and my reputation by helping the Dudley and Alanna and then exploring the surrounding area killed an ogre and a couple of Ogrillon. Against some of the weaker enemies I used the staff that I had found at Candlekeep. Imagine my surprise when my charisma jumped to 25. Since that staff clearly affects charisma I sold it as it is unlikely that I will ever get a better charisma than that. At least I still have the +1 staff found on Silke’s body.

Using sleep and blindness spells I cleared the way from Beregost to Nashkel, killing some half-ogres that ambushed me and fleeing those that were not affected by a sleep spell. Upon reaching Nashkel, Oublek offered me 500 gold pieces, thinking that I was Greywolf. By refusing it I actually became a hero! Would you believe it! They clearly have no understanding of what I am really like. I do things for my own benefit, and if it happens to benefit someone else as well, why should I care?

Hearing that there would be a reward for killing Bassilus, I went to kill him. However, I decided to charm him first and kill him after he had killed Zargal and his cohorts. It did not quite work according to plan however. We did indeed kill Zargal and his cohorts, but just when I was about to kill him myself, a bandit did just that and I missed out on the experience.

Still, I did get some experience and also gained 5000 gold pieces.

I then increased my reputation still further by helping and archaeologist and Brage.

I did a bit of Ankheg hunting and returned the body of Farmer Brun’s son to him. This was fortuitous as I found a wand of fire, which will be most useful. Obviously my offerings to Tymora were not wasted.

I think that I may now be powerful enough to take on the demons in the Nashkel Mine. We will see. If it is too dangerous I will leave that job to others who are foolhardy.

What plonkers! There weren’t any demons at all, just a few kobolds led by a half-orc called Mulahey. Sleep was effective against the kobolds, but I sneaked past most of them as they had no treasure worth having. Against Mulahey I used my wand of fire. That killed most of his kobolds and injured him. Then the wand of frost, after which he panicked and I just had to wait until I could get in a good shot with my crossbow.

After plundering his chest and memorising a few spells I sneaked out of the mines unobserved. Before sleeping I pondered on the events of the day and came to the conclusion that Gorion was actually quite wise not to let me become a mage earlier. My thieving skills were quite useful down the mine and I was able to use them against some more assassins who were awaiting my arrival near the rear exit of the mine.

Because I was hidden, I knew they were there before they were aware of my presence. I was able to blast them a couple of times with the wand of fire before retreating and hiding. Lamalha foolishly came looking for me by herself. I crept up behind her and blasted her with a wand of frost. I then blasted the others once more with the wand of fire. Only Zeela remained and I was able to kill her with a magic missile.

On returning to Nashkel a boy was attacked by a baby wyvern. I recruited Oublek to fight against it. Oublek got killed and I was badly hurt and poisoned, but managed to charm it. This worked out very beneficially as I was attacked by another assassin. Whilst I cast spells of protection, the wyvern attacked the assassin. Almost simultaneously with the wyvern’s death, I cast web and I together with the Amnish guard was able to kill the assassin with ranged weapons.

Upon leaving Nashkel I came across a couple of lady ogres. I therefore blinded them in case they turned hostile. Upon approaching them they did become hostile, but because of their visual impairment I was able to kill them easily. Killing some kobold a few minutes later, I became a level 6 mage.

Heading northward, I was attacked by carrion crawlers. Once blinded they also were easy to kill.

I mistakenly thought that with a potion to stop myself being charmed, I would be able to take on the sirenes. I cast web in order to avoid being poisoned by their arrows and was wearing boots of avoidance and girdle of piercing. They ALL saved against web and 6 potions of poison resistance was not enou…

@Wise - sorry to hear that - incidentally, this is why I always get into melee range with sirines, so that if the sirines insist on using their bow they must do so at a penalty. Their arrows are much worse than their melee as you've seen...

@Grond0 - best of luck to your new random entrant.

Zart - elven wild mage (update 2)

Zart is still going, though she's had some close shaves ...

Her first problem came in making her way down to Nashkel off the main roads.  She tried to use her ferret familiar to occupy a group of hobgoblins while she bypassed them, but the first attack on the ferret was a critical - causing it to run for it.  That resulted in Zart being targeted with a poisoned arrow from a hobgoblin elite just before she got out of range.  That's a pretty weak poison, but would still probably have finished her off (as usual I'm not allowing her to use healing potions or antidotes) if she had not rested here to get it out of her system.

There were no further alarms in reaching Nashkel and Zart got to level 2 there when the ferret nibbled Neira to death (while I read a book while waiting for the d3 damage to mount up).

She bought the wand of fire from Durlag's Tower and picked up the wand of frost from the Nashkel Mine, the fire resistance ring from Samuel's area and the wand of monster summoning from the Valley of the Tombs. The ghasts guarding the latter were softened up by frost before being darted (level 3).

Frost, fire and a final dart killed Meilum before Zart attempted to do the same to Greywolf.  However, her frost wand triggered slightly quicker than I expected and the familiar got caught in the blast - taking Zart down from 19 to 1 HP.  The silver lining in the cloud is that she's got no constitution bonus anyway, so the permanent loss of a point of constitution doesn't affect her.

Zart was struggling to carry Samuel so took advantage of a replacement ferret's thieving ability to slip the body out of her backpack into its pocket!  Gellana didn't recognise that the ferret had the body, but once it had been handed back to Zart Gellana duly offered a reward.

Most of the Cloudpeaks encounters were straightforward, but Zart did have another self-inflicted injury at the Gnoll Stronghold when a respawn on an encounter point she had cleared seconds earlier meant she didn't retreat away from her own fireball!

With reputation up to 20 Zart started working up to Ulgoth's Beard.  She attacked Shoal on the way - the ferret getting a pretty impressive strike in for something that rolls a d3 for damage!
Shoal.jpg
On arrival there she bought several items and recharged her almost exhausted fire wand.  She used her new frost wand on the battle horrors at Durlag's Tower - getting to level 6 in the process.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 48 - (update 1)
Atrax, half-elf druid (Grond0) & Lacca, half-elf cleric/mage (Gate70)

After our previous offering of a druid and an undead hunter received an early bath we just had time last night to generate a set of challengers.  As usual the classes were chosen randomly from the selection that we have not yet placed - once more that includes a druid, although this time controlled by me.

LaccaL1.jpg

The half-elves should have made their way out of Candlekeep, but during the departure cutscene Tethtoril decided to come and talk to Atrax about the need to leave quickly!  That appeared to faze Gorion and he did not make his usual appearance in the next area to face Sarevok.  We did actually use ctrl+J to jump out of Candlekeep and go to the next map, but decided that it would be too risky to continue with a possible broken run and will restart the couple next time.

New entry, Feyn, a halfling barbarian.

001_zpsfb5d9561.jpg

Weidu log (bit massive, but anyways...)

Spoiler

In short, BGT/Ascension/Revisions/SCS + some other stuff like Tactics components etc.
I also made some minor modifications to SCS scripts (they behave slightly sub-optimally on Item/Kit Revisions install)
so that AI can respond "smartly" (i.e. Cassiel's Soul  is now detected as a proper SI:Necromancy). In addition, I modified a few spells (most notably, Magic Missile - does Missile damage, does not affect creatures immune to missiles; and Skull Trap - does slashing damage, and ignores magic resistance. Both of these spells cannot bypass Stoneskins, but do remove skins. I also made sure AI responds to these changes, i.e. AI will cast Skull Trap against a 100%MR character, which SCS wouldn't normally do).
One other (rather big) change I wanted to try out is adding mage/priest levels to AI oponnents. Hence, all priests and mages are two levels higher than what they are in the regular game (i.e. Rayic Gethras is level 14 in vanilla, on my install he's level 16).
This is a big change, and I'll probably revert in in my next install - it makes some parts of the game, especially BG1 part, much more tedious.
BGT Spawn system is used for "random spawns", so the EXP gain will be slightly higher.
Anyways, without further ado, to the game itself.

Oh, and for the KR barbarian, I slightly altered the kit by implementing a "Leap attack" feat. AI barbarians will also benefit from this (actually, much more than how it was previously handled.) At level 5, barbs get this:

So, Feyn, 1st update

Some powergaming is in order to begin with - we begin by grabing the 9k ring from FAI, selling it, and helping the good lady Silke deal with some muggers. each of them leaves behind a very valuable Potion of Defence (+4 AC). Some reputation is lost, but I don't care about that much.
003_zps08df5b83.jpg

While in Beregost, I adopted Tiax. This is him, slightly altered appearance as you can see (I did this to all NPCs, btw. Do tell if something is way off their character - I used this portrait for Tiax since in my install he can use crossbows).
004_zps629cc64d.jpg

Speaking of crossbows, I altered them as well:D So, Tiax now gets this baby.
005_zps196d5347.jpg

Next, Kivan is joined. He doesn't exactly go well with Tiax, but they have some hilarious dialogue throughout the game. In addition, Kivan's damage output is insane. He's an archer, and wields longbows.
006_zps25013920.jpg

Prior to getting my planned arcane casters, we finished Ankheg farm - unfortunately, Tenya was killed, an arrow was in the air as she gave her speech begging us to stop. Ah well, all in a day's work.
007_zps2644c8c8.jpg

Did some pickpocketing with Tiax...
008_zpsc252b220.jpg

And was fairly big in levels while killing off basilisks.
009_zpscd61d14d.jpg

Mutamin himself is insane - once 2 levels are added to him, he becomes a monster to face with his three basilsiks surrounding him. Discretion was the better part of valor here, he killed Tiax's ghast summon...
010_zps91ac8787.jpg

.....wandered off....so I took in Korax to deal with basilisks (Mutamin's first move was to dispel Pro Petrification scroll off Kivan)
011_zps69b567d5.jpg

Once basilisks were slain, Muta was found running, and died shortly after he expended much of his spellbook (mostly Chromatic Orbs).
012_zpsb5ff5cb5.jpg

I decided to leave Kirian's group there for a later date, and traveled to the opossite side of the map to hunt some Sirens.
First, Droth was slain (Trip+ghoul attack). I used Kagain as a bait for Shoal there. Helmet of Defence is very valuable in this game, it provides Feyn with a much needed protection from critical hits (2 other BG1 helmets with this property are Helm of Glory and Balduran's Helm).
013_zpsd2c126c1.jpg

Sirens were mostly dealt with ranged attacks, and my undead horde of 3 skeletons + ghast.
014_zpsa6d3a1f6.jpg

In the cave with Constitution Tome, there was a slight bug - 2 creatures spawned on top of each other, hence couldn't move...meh. Once golem dies, skeleton warrior does attack, so not all is bugged.
015_zpsc6645a1c.jpg

They also left behind some crazy scrolls - Project Image was found. :D
016_zpseb46bc6d.jpg

Red Berric (a ghostly pirate, very accurate, but also very slow) was slain as well - once Kivan gets above 4th level, he's already a serious damage dealer.
017_zpsfd38416c.jpg

Once Sirens were done, Feyn reached level 6. This means that any NPC I meet now is level 6 as well - we travel to Nashkel, to pick up Edwin.
This is him, in his red glory.
018_zpsaac017f3.jpg

Further south, we kill Greywolf, and Feyn nearly dies to Kobold Kamikaze. This was a close call, if he rolled any less HP he'd probably die here. BGT Spawn adds such encounters, and this is probably one of the deadliest - not all kobold groups have Kamikaze in between them, and it's difficult to tell them apart from a regular kobold.
019_zpsaeec46e2.jpg

While exploring wilderness areas in between Nashkel and Gnoll Stronghold (we must kill Dynhaeir there)
a Kobold Scribe was encoutered. This is a fairly high level mage, who dies very fast if focused upon, but he leaves behind a ton of high-leveled scrolls.
020_zps98349496.jpg

Of course, using Djinni summons is crazy, so I only wrote such spells in Edwin's book. :P

Dyna was succesfully killed. I had to drop Kivan beforehand, otherwise he leaves permanently.
021_zps0ee8491d.jpg

For final undertaking and forming my party, Mulahey was slain - Kivan stealthly approached him from the back, 2 hits (1st one was a critical) were enough as Feyn cleaved through the skeletons and kobolds.
022_zps4e6eb84b.jpg

Final party member, Xan.
023_zpsf9a49f99.jpg

Muahahaah.....
024_zps95a993e8.jpg
:D

Will post more on Feyn later.
