Alac - dwarven fighter/thief (1st and final update)

Some months ago I thought it would be nice to try and no-reload the trilogy in a day.  I still don't know when I will get the chance to try that uninterrupted by family or work responsibilities.  However, in case I get the chance to attempt it during the summer holidays, I'm intending to develop a script to follow (so that I don't have to waste time thinking about what to do next in the run itself).

I took Alac through BG1 this morning and defeated Sarevok with half a dozen backstabs running round the pillars.  As I've previously done a speed run in BG1 I was just fine-tuning that script.  Doing BG2 will require rather more time and thinking to develop.

RecordendBG1.jpg

Let me know if anyone is interested in the script.

I remember seeing a speed run for BG1 done in less than half an hour, but that was a fighter/mage/thief.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 49 - (update 2)
Loqi, human enchanter (Grond0) & Wroth, half-elf totemic druid (Gate70)

This pair made a bit more progress in a short session.  With reputation up at 20 the session started by travelling to Ulgoth's Beard and buying a few things.

They then moved on to the main quest with an assault on the Nashkel mine.  With totemic summons being so overpowering in BG1, Wroth took pity on our enemies and didn't make use of them at all.  However, progress was still easy enough.  Mulahey failed to recognise he was being eaten and was eventually sent to sleep by a pseudo-dragon bite.

After exiting from the mine the amazons were blinded and unable to respond properly to Wroth's first use of nymphs.  Nimbul was another familiar victim before Tranzig was hacked down.  The bandit camp will be first on the agenda next time.

Stats:

Loqi, enchanter 6, 43 HPs (inc 12 from familiar), 33 kills

Wroth, totemic druid 7, 45 HPs, 39 kills, 0 deaths

The run of my thief dualled to conjurer came to a sudden halt when I took on the Teldorns far too early in the game. It was the golem that was the problem. Thinking about it afterwards I realised that I could probably have won, but that upon finishing the Stone of Askavaar quest, I would be too powerful for the rest of the game, so in future I will give that quest a miss until after visiting Candlekeep.

Now intend on trying a couple based on Xzar and Montaron.

the Stone of Askavaar quest,

What's that mod like? Is that the one with some new areas? I vaguely remember a decent battle in a house (maybe castle) which was surrounded by some monsters (Undead?), had mages, and some nice helemets afterwards....

Yes there are new areas, but so do a lot of mods. One of the areas in this mod has a keep which might be the area you are referring to.

However, you could also be referring to another mod such as the Secret of Bonehill which has far more undead and a castle that largely resembles the D'Arnise stronghold in BG2.

I like it. There are some tough battles. Yes there are some fairly good rewards.

Shields that protect from elemental damage, helmets that protect from mind attacks, +2 swords plus extra damage from fire and the like.

They have clearly attempted not to overpower the game, but if you had a party of warriors all wanting to wield 2 handed swords, it would help.

The biggest fault is that it is hard to find the areas on the world map. You really have to read part of the walk through in order to find your way around.

Shame that. The modders really needed to talk with the world map makers.

I think that the problem was that the mod was created before the world map and the makers of the world map didn't take enough care in placing the areas on the world map.

I would highly recommend only starting it after visiting Candlekeep. Then the mod isn't too difficult and the loot  will be balanced.

Xzar and Montaron enter the fray.

Xzar Tiefling Illusionist

Str 14 Dex 19 Con 12 Int 19 Wis 16 Cha

Montaron Strongheart Halfling Fighter/Thief

Str 16 Dex 18 Con 15 Int 13 Wis 13 Cha 9

Diary of Xzar

In Candlekeep Montaron "found" a jewel worth 1000gp.

This was enough for us to raise our reputation up to 12.

Of course it plumetted again when we killed Firebead. I blinded him and Montaron then hit him with throwing axes. He probably has no idea who killed him. Someone must have raised him as we met him again at Beregost.

Having given Shank and Carbos decent armour and weapons (Human flesh armour and a poison dagger, shadow armour and a +1 dagger

Montaron got quite badly hurt. This was due to my blindness spell not working (resistance from human flesh armour).

I like the additions that I have given Shank and Carbos using Shadowkeeper as they are now actually dangerous and have killed my character on occasion.

After being ambushed we followed Gorion's instructions and went to the Friendly Arms Inn. There we were ambushed yet again. I cast blindness just as Tarnesh the assassin cast horror. I panicked at that, but fortunately Montaron didn't. Because my spell also worked, Montaron was able to kill Tarnesh with a minimum of fuss. Heading south we killed some ogrillon before heading further south to Nashkel Carnival. There I practised with a staff that I had found on the body of Tarnesh. It sometimes caused the animals I practised on to panic. but it caused a cat to go berserk. As a result, it did me serious harm.

We headed further south still and took on Greywolf. Sadly a paladin interfered, and as a result we lost the experience for killing Greywolf.

Thank you, much appreciated. I remember SoBH vaguely as well, this is on an island or something, a whole village if I'm not mistaken? A gnome teleports you there from Beregost Temple or something.....I didn't like it....to powerful items in store iirc.

The "castle" I was reffering to is (iirc) in an area far to the south, even further south than Nashkel Mines area. It's rather small (a single room actually), nothing like De'Arnise. I also had trouble getting to new areas, even with walkthrough <_< .

Anyways, I'll probably try it out again.

Thanks!

I went back to Wyrm’s Crossing intent on by-passing after exploring, being wary of the FF. When I got to Wyrm’s crossing I checked to see if that Elf w/all the wolves was still there. She seems like a great target for roughing up. I think she’s an Elven Ranger & I expect there’s treasure to be had as any Elf in mail w/wolves as protection is sure to be more than a Harpist. She was still there, waiting for whoever it is. But since it was still light I decided to go explore the rest of the crossing & wait for nightfall to ambush her so I could accomplish the deed quickly, quietly & w/stealth.

I checked out the rest of the Crossing but found only a single Ankheg, which my warriors destroyed w/ease. Then I had us rest until dark in that Priestess’ of Umberlee’s home since she’s not using it anymore. Heck, I might take it as a base of operations when I return to BG after my visit to Ulgoth’s Beard.

Key Event:. Nightfall came & I had my minions come w/me to where the Elven Ranger was still standing, waiting patiently for whoever. I gave explicit directions. Safana approached her & she was obviously waiting for someone but seemed disinterested in my group. So…on my signal I told Quayle to use his Wand of Lightning on her while asking Viconia cast Animate Dead & have her skeleton approach the Vampiric Wolf. Shar-Teel & Viconia were to get close to her & wait. When I was ready I hollered, ‘Execute!” The lightning bolt tore through her & weakened her while I cast a Larloch’s Minor Drain @ her. Shar-Teel & Kagain converged on her. From behind her I saw her Winter Wolf blast kagain w/his Breath Weapon & so I decided to kill that wolf myself & so I did but not before it blasted Kagain a second time. Kagain finished off the Ranger but Quayle had already toasted her w/the lightning bolt. She never even took a swing & she was dead & shortly so were her Wolf, Dread Wolf, Dire Wolf and then we all focused on the Vampiric Wolf. He broke & ran but we chased him down & killed him too.  A great ambush which gave Shar-Teel two enchanted Long Swords for her two weapon style & Elven Chain Mail for Safana which she can use to do he thieving in. Jackpot!

The location of the areas varies with the version of the worldmap that you use! Important to know that. The location does not always tally with the description given in the game. :(

With my current set-up my game crashes if I go into most of the SoBH stores. A bit of serendipity there I think.

I blew through the farmlands & there’s really nothing to tell.  I didn’t swing my blade one time because I have two brutal body-guards in Shar-Teel & Kagain to take care of my light work. Safana  protects me by being my scout out of doors Hidden in Shadow & detecting traps, usually invisible when we are in dungeons, etc & she will fight w/her dual-Short Swords +1 toe to toe & I pity the poor sucker who takes one of her back stabs.. Viconia continues to provide for my Clerical needs, using her spells, especially in battling other spellcasters & knocking out enemies with her Command. Quayle has come along & learned Improved Invisibility to fill up his 4th Level Spells x3. He also learned Deafness & Spook as they were provided to him last time a runner for his Illusionist Guild csme to him so he now has all Illusionist spells up to 4th Level in his Spellbook.  Those, along w/all the Scrolls he carries make him an asset & I may have to give up on Skie.  .

Key Event:. While in the Farmlands my servants killed 20 Zombies. Zombies just explode when Shar-teel & Kagain hit them. We received 150 gold for our troubles.

Diary of Xzar and my side-kick Montaron

Having been told of a reward for killing Bassilus we went in search of him. I charmed him, got him to fight for us and then killed him when he was no longer useful.

We then rescued a boy trapped in a lighthouse and went sirene hunting. Montaron had used a potion of clarity He was hurt badly but we survived.

Montaron plundered the cave there using stealth and we then headed southwards where we helped an archaeologist and Brage.

At last we are heroes,at least in the eyes of ohers. We know differently. We decided to celebrate by going shopping. Sadly we are still short of gold and therefore decided not to go to Ulgoth's Beard as the merchandise there is too expensive for us. One problem we have had has been the cost of Montaron's throwing axes. At least they are a little cheaper now. I have bought an axe +1 for Montaron and a Traveller's Cloak. I was planning on going Basilisk hunting, but there was not enough gold for protections. Perhaps later.

I then decided to take NPC Xzar and Montaron with me to visit Shoal. Unfortunately we were ambushed by druids and neither of them survived. We returned to the temple and raised Xzar. Montaron however was a waste of space so we disposed of him.

We then returned and killed both Shoal andf her husband.

After leaving Xzar in Beregost, we went hunting half-ogres and killed some bandits that attacked us too. As a reward we were given a shield +1 and our reputation has now reached 19. :)

My most common tactic for fighting powerful enemies is to cast web and let Montaron wearing the ring of free action wade in with his +1 axe. Now cheaper. Not so many throwing axes to buy.

Edit

Raced through the mines with no problems even from Mulahey. I used one bolt of frost to weaken him.

Upon exiting realised that I had no necklace of missiles or wand of fiery burning for fighting Lamalha et al. Web was sufficient though Montaron was hurt in the battle.

We then went to the cave with the wand of monster summoning and returned to Nashkel. We killed Nimbul, web again being highly effective.

We headed north, killed a few bandits before blinding the lady ogres prior to killing them.

This was sufficient to reach level 6.

We bought a necklace of missiles and a shield amulet thus making ourselves poor again. :(

Reputation is now 20.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 49 - (update 3)
Loqi, human enchanter (Grond0) & Wroth, half-elf totemic druid (Gate70)

Another session saw this duo closing in on Sarevok.

They started with an assault on the bandit camp.  Wroth put on some anti-piercing equipment and meleed most of the bandits while Loqi stayed in support using the odd sleep.  Wroth turned to her spells though when Taugosz put in an appearance.  Inside the main tent 9 blinds only managed to put Hakt out of action.  However, the others quickly fell foul of a supporting nymph.

After splashing out all their cash on the Claw of Kazgoroth and Robe of the Good Archmagi the duo ventured into the Cloakwood.  Wroth saw off Seniyad with a bit of help again from her friendly nymph.  There was no more action on the way to the Cloakwood Mine.  There Drasus and Genthore chased Wroth without the mages in support and both were blinded.  Genthore was then dominated by a nymph and went back to distract the mages while they were finished off.

Inside the mine Wroth used spirit summons for the first time in a long while.  A pair of spirit bears were sufficient to deal with Hareishan.  Downstairs a spirit snake helped tank a battle horror, although surprisingly only one of those appeared.  The snake went on to tackle Davaeorn, but Wroth had killed him by the time it got into action.

In the City Jalantha was blinded and rendered harmless.  Marek was also blinded, but Wroth stayed too close to him and was confused.  She then didn't move away and was zapped by a lightning bolt - the fact that Marek was also killed by the bounces was scant comfort.  Ramazith successfully resisted 4 blind attempts, so was treated to a dose from the wand of paralysation.  Although it wasn't necessary, Loqi and Wroth both felt it would be appropriate to clear the tower.  The ghasts were a potential problem, but Loqi managed to squeeze out a skull trap to finish the last 2 of them off.

After picking up the Helm of Balduran Vay-ya was blinded to make getting the ogre gauntlets easy enough.  The last action was then at the Iron Throne.  After going upstairs invisibly Wroth produced some summons and attacked.  He was confused just as I was urgently summoned in the real world - to finish things off quickly Loqi turned to his wand of fire for the first time and 3 quick scorchers eliminated the opposition.

Stats:

Loqi, enchanter 8, 51 HPs (inc 12 from familiar), 80 kills

Wroth, totemic druid 9, 56 HPs, 80 kills, 1 death

Diary of Xzar and Montaron Final Update

We were Ankheg hunting and had been quite succesful when an Ankheg saved against blindness. The Ankheg attacked Xzar whereupon Montaron moved in to try and distract it whilst Xzar cast another spell. It didn't work. The Ankheg attacked Xzar again and that was the end.

Hewer finds a few minutes are enough time to, well read on to find out.

Flushed with confidence the party head for a second group of sirines. Hewer has forgotten about his greenstone amulet and instead tries a shadowy Frozen Fist on Sil. She turns hostile so Rasaad adds a shadowy Sun Soulray to burn all three sirines and Hewer too. Imoen starts shooting arrows from her bow as Neera tries a chromatic orb. By this time Sil has charmed Hewer and Rasaad only hangs around long enough to kill one sirine before Hewer chases him around them.

Imoen whittles away at the second sirine as Neera sends a Magic Missile at Sil. Rasaad returns to punch her with a Flame Fist then runs again. Neera moves in to melee the remaining sirine as Rasaad runs again. Hewer switches to Neera who is able to keep moving despite being poisoned so Rasaad can kill off the sirine. Once Hewer recovers he heals Neera but she uses a potion of healing taking her to 10hp as the poison expires).

Imoen loads up the unidentified arrows (biting) and sets to work on a flesh golem inside the nearby cave. An invisible Hewer steps on a trap (had remembered them but not quite the location) then blocks the golem before adding a venomous strike to finish it off. Imoen disarms a second trap then repeats her attack but the corridor means she keeps moving and losing focus so the golem closes in. Imoen retreats as Hewer attacks from the shadows but the golem spots Neera and moves to her instead. Rasaad tries intervening but the corridor width means he is too late. With Hewer/Venom on one side and Rasaad/Varscona on the other it is a relief when one strike finishes that golem. The third golem is softened up with arrows and two venomous strikes finish it off, leaving Hewer, Rasaad and Imoen struggling to carry out all the loot as well as the body of Neera. The cost of raising her is 800gp, 10% of party funds.

I decided to head to Beregost to make a donation to the fraud priest there so that he could blab about it & raise my reputation again after I killed those stupid fishermen in the Farmlands. I also wanted to dump a Winter Wolf Pelt & since I’m not welcome in the Nashkel Store I figured on killing both birds’ w/one stone in Beregost before heading to Durlag’s Tower to meet Ike. On the way I had my party slay two Wolves.

I headed to Nashkel but knowing the Nashkel Store was not going to provide service to me, I elected to make my base of Operations between the Potion Merchant & the Enchanted Weapons Merchant wagons @ Nashkel Carnival. After a few hours rest it was off to Durlag’s Tower. Once on the grounds I recon’d the outside of the tower moving left always until I came to a narrow stone bridge. In staggered column, I had us move across the bridge until Safana saw a Battle Horror & moved out of the way to let Kagain & Shar-Teel @ him. He focused on Shar-Teel & she took a couple of hits but ended up destroying him w/assistance from Kagain & I in melee. Viconia tried Mental Domination, Command & Cloak of Fear to no avail & finally switched to Shillelagh so she could enter melee. Meanwhile Quale cast Invisibility on himself before successfully casting Blindness on the Horror. We took just a couple of steps more & weren’t even formed up again when I saw another Battle Horror.  Again I tried to get Shar-Teel, Kagain & I, as well as Viconia w/her Shillelagh to surround him & beat him to death. Again Quayle successfully cast Blindness on the Horror, helping our cause. I hit him hard twice, Viconia hit him, Shar-Teel hit him (& he her again) & finally Kagain finished him.

CRUSHING BATTLE HORROR #2

A little further up the path, Safana spied three Doppelgangers. I stayed back safely watching Kagain & Shar-Teel charge them for toe-to-toe combat while Viconia slung stones @ them.  All three of them killed one of the Doppelgangers each. I had us continue & we found a path leading away from the tower, rerouted & moved up where we met Ike who was in a hurry but I was not. He went on in while I wanted to recon the courtyard & battlements. In the courtyard, once again, there were three Doppelgangers. Shar-Teel & Kagain attacked & killed them but not w/o taking more hits & each required a PoH. Shar-Teel got credit for all three kills.

MEETING UP W/IKE

Key Event:. When I finally climbed up the stairs to the battlements, I saw a third Battle Horror & six Skeletons w/Composite Long Bows. I told Quayle & Safana to go back down the stairs but Quayle got pushed out of the door & tried to cast Improved Invisibility on himself but was hit by an arrow before he could do so but then he was able to get back down stairs w/Safana. I directed Shar-Teel & Kagain to the Horror while I, w/my Boots of Avoidance, RoP +1 & Full-Plate +1 wanted to take care of the Skeletons. I took care of the three on one side, away from the Horror & then headed back to finish the other three when I saw Shar-Teel taking hits again. I directed her to finish the Skeletons & I joined Kagain in fighting the Battle Horror. I finished him w/a powerful blow.

KILLING BATTLE HORROR #3

I crossed over to the other side of the courtyard & headed up a staircase behind Safana, Hidden in Shadow, with the others behind. Safana spied a Skeleton w/a Warhammer & Buckler. I called for Shar-Teel & Kagain to come up but as they did a Doom Guard & three more Skeletons, one w/Composite Longbow, one w/Warhammer & one w/a Mace, the latter two also w/Bucklers all appeared.. I wanted Shar-Teel to move around behind the Doom Guard but she ended up fighting the Skeletons w/the Doom Guard Swinging @ her back while Kagain & I were swinging @ his. I hollered for her to turn & face the Doom Guard & she did but just as she took a hit. I hit him w/two crushing blows from Spiders Bane, the second time killing him. Shar-Teel & Viconia finished the skeletons. I had us clear the battlements completely & ended up killing three more Skeletons w/Composite Longbows before we’d done what I came to do for now. I’m headed back to the carnival to rest & sell my loot. I don’t care if Ike’s there or not when I return.

Hewer (Dark Moon Monk), Rasaad, Neera, Imoen.

Tarnesh saves against Dark Monk blindness but doesn't dodge the fists, feet, arrows and Magic Missile. Hewer uses his 20/21 reputation and charisma to grab half a dozen potions to go with golden pantaloons and repeatedly provokes Dorn who threatens to strangle him but never does. Wise move half-orc.

Shortly afterwards Dorn is encountered again and grovels to travel with the party. Hewer hands over some plate armour and the deal is sealed.

Screenshots of the open BG:EE beta.
(I've cropped and added portraits but the names now show in addition to HP when TAB is used)

Hewer has forgotten where exactly someone called Kryll can be found. Not here...

Ah yes, here. Hewer is getting used to Rasaad including him in Sun Soulray, this being about the 4th time to date.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 49 - (4th and final update)
Loqi, human enchanter (Grond0) & Wroth, half-elf totemic druid (Gate70)

The session started with a slight note of confusion when the loaded game didn't seem familiar.  After working out I had saved the last session with a quicksave rather than as MP49 we were underway - picking up the loot from the Iron Throne enemies finished off last time.

After reporting to Duke Eltan and returning to Candlekeep Loqi opened up the tombs.  Some summons dealt with a few dopplegangers before Prat found all his companions blind to the fact he was being attacked by spirit summons.

Back in Baldur's Gate Slythe was charmed by a nymph before positioning himself near Quenash.  Interestingly, Krystin dispelled the charm, but still went ahead and cloudkilled Slythe (killing herself and Quenash in the process).

At the palace malison followed by insect plague and chaos left only a bit of mopping up to do.

The inhabitants of the maze provided our final BG1 levels before Shaldrissa was persuaded to cloudkill her own party by an animal attack.  A skull trap then left only Gorf to finish off.

In the temple, Sarevok was, as usual, pulled out by himself by a long-distance shot.  He was dumped behind a pillar when Loqi took an invisibility potion and 5 dispel magics aimed at him.  They proved to have successfully slowed him down and Wroth put up a succession of summons to keep him busy while missile attacks, Wroth's dagger and LMDs got him to near death.  With his summons dead Wroth's ironskin didn't last quite long enough to kill Sarevok and he retreated to heal and get a bit of buffing from Loqi before coming back in to finish the job.

Stats:

Loqi, enchanter 9, 55 HPs (inc 12 from familiar), 108 kills

Wroth, totemic druid 10, 58 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 93 kills, 1 death

A bit impatient are we?  I'd actually done the post before reading this and it was a fairly typical delay - early morning post catching up with the action from the previous day.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. It's still the same day from my point of view, end of the said day...I'll infer from your statement that you'll for sure get to it, so I will wait without comment in the future...I was just anxious to hear your take for some reason...

Starting a new game called "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Self explanatory I think. :D Don't know why Photobucket is black and white, but adequate for this I think.

Edit: Photobucket doesn't like bmp extension either. That is why b & w.

Tried posting and image extension not allowed. It was bmp. Does it have to be jpg?

Tried jpg too. What extension is allowed?

Seen that others have posted jpg.

Is it that photobucket links are not allowed? :?

They always used to be on the old forum.

Don't understand it. Now it is working. On next post I'll trim the Screenshots before posting.

The party got to the FAI where horror disabled Backstabber. The other two disposed of Tarnesh without problems.

The party  met three Flaming Fist Guards who because of their strong plate armour prevailed. :(

I returned to Durlag’s Tower after a day or so & headed up the long, narrow path to the portcullis. Once again, as I approached a large rough, stone arch, Safana came back to inform us that there were three Doppelgangers just beyond the arch. Maybe a pattern to expect as they play the role of guard?  I sent Shar-Teel & Kagain forward to do my dirty work & the rest of my minions joined in. Shar-Teel got credit for two kills, Viconia for one.

Then I realized I am going to have to play smart in here. Ike was there tryin’ to pawn off some rune stone, which I refused when suddenly a supernatural knight appeared. My followers went off on him & he exploded a fireball w/Shar-Teel, Kagain & Safana all within the blast zone, as was I. Safana collapsed dead in a moment but I knew I cold raise her & I intended to. The Demon Knight exploded another Fireball & Kagain’s morale failed. He wandered around & I feared he would walk over a trap & become toast but he didn’t. He’d be hard to replace, that’s all. Back to Nashkel to Nalin. At least his god is neutral, even if Lawful.  So I returned, raised Safana @ w/Nalin’s help, forgetting one again that Viconia has five Raise Dead scrolls in her pack. I had us sleep a few hours to regain lost spells & allow Safana to regain her strength & then headed straight back & killed three more Doppelgangers @ that very same location & then went back across the drawbridge & gatehouse portcullis & through the portcullis leading into the courtyard & thru the huge doorway & portcullis into the donjon.

THE DEMON KNIGHT BATTLE

On return there was no Demon night & no traps to deal w/on the entrance floor - & no treasure to speak of. I has Safana & Shar-Teel go up the donjon stairs to make sure the coast was clear & it was so the rest of us climbed up.  Once there, moving around Shar-Teel spied a Ghast in a room to the right of the top of the stairs. I hollered for no one to enter the room for fear (as Safana had detected one like that on the first ground. So I told everyone to let him come to us only to realize there were two more Ghasts behind him. Before all was said & done there were five Ghasts in all. You know me, I see red when I see any followers of my Queens enemy Dorsain, Demon King of Ghouls. I started hacking @ them, waiting in the doorway to get first crack but everyone was doing their jobs & killing Ghasts. Kagain took a swipe that made him nauseous & Safana did trip a trap & was Held but out of danger b/c she was out in the main room so I got between her & the Ghasts. Shar-Teel killed three of them & I killed the other two.

Key Event:. I took a crushing blow in Durlag’s Tower early on. I lost my lover Shar-Teel to a Greater Basilisk! We’d killed the five Ghasts & found a sixth Ghast in one of the rooms on the first level up in the donjon. Safana & Shar-Teel led, Safana Detecting Traps & Shar-Teel just behind to provide quick muscle if needed. We’d pretty much cleaned out that level of the donjon when Safana & Shar-Teel found a hall. It was trapped & caught Safana off guard & stunned her.  Once she got her wits back & quaffed a PoH, she & Shar-Teel found stairs going up so I had Quayle cast Invisibility 15’ Radius on them & they went up. When they got there, there was a Lesser Basilisk so Shar-Teel quaffed a Potion of Mirrored Eyes & spanked him mercilessly. Now wary of Basilisks, we gathered as a group & got out Potions of Mirrored Eyes @ the ready & headed up another, outdoor staircase where about half-way up I met three Doppelgangers & as usual whipped them good, this time I joined in w/Kagain & Shar-Teel.  I sent Shar-Teel & Safana up the stairs a little further to where they could go through an opening onto what turned out to be a flat roof on another battlement. There Shar-Teel & Safana saw another Basilisk, this one of the greater types. Once they informed me, I sent Kagain up also providing Potions of Mirrored Eyes to both of them & Safana. But Shar-Teel attacked w/o quaffing her PoME & once upon him was petrified. Irritating but not something we could overcome, so I sent Viconia to cast a Stone to Flesh on her but as she did so, in a steady rain, a bolt of lightning came out of the sky & blew her petrified statue to pieces where nothing was left to allow Viconia to cast Raise Dead. Kagain had finished the culprit Basilisk in the meantime. I had depended on Shar-Teel as my most important ally & my lover & for a moment I was furious so I quaffed a Potion of Mirrored Eyes & took off around the battlement, leaving the others behind.  I found two more Greater Basilisks that I single handedly destroyed.

SHAR-TEEL OBLITERATED BY PETRIFICATION & LIGHTNING

To carry on w/o Shar-Teel, I need to improve Kagain’s weapons skill, strength if possible & anything else that will make him more lethal quickly. I will pray to Malcanthet for guidance while holding a massive bond fire of the Ghast carcasses which includes Five more Ghasts I came across in the lover floor when we accidently went down to the basement which we cleared so that now we’re cleared two donjon levels up & one down.

Treasure of Note (Gold 9,041)

Current Disposition: Resting @ the Nashkel Carnival in my usual place, praying to Malcanther for an answer ro my predicament.

Next Steps:  Waiting for guidance & leading from Malcanther w/o which I will return to Durlag’s Tower w/five followers

Level Up: Safana was approached by a runner from her Guild Master & informed that she is now a full Name-Level THIEF (Thief/9). He also warned her that the Guild master wanted to make clear to her that he would not tolerate the competition of a new Thieves Guild in Calimport, from where she hails. She was welcome to remain w/her current guild in Calimport, as a senior advisor, but any treachery, the runner said, would be dealt w/expediently.

I just want to say that the way I lost Shar-Teel borders on 'unsportsmanlike', harsh rules.  I made a mistake that should have been rectified w/a Stone to Flesh Scroll.  How many times does a PC/NPC get struck by lightning to little affect in this game, but in this case, it blows my primary NPC to bits. I had a good mind to replay that over but decided to accept the challenge no matter how poor the reason the developers had for allowing that.  There's no strategy, nothing that could have prevented that.

Reminds me of one time in Candlekeep when everyone was trying to arrest my PC & Party for murder. I elected to 'fight' but really just wanted to run which I did from the first Watcher & I ran up a floor.  I met the Gatewarden @ the top of the stairs who challenged me. Once again, I chose to 'fight' really intent on running to see what I could pull off.  Instead, the Gatewarden had a flame burst from the sky come down & obliterate my Fighter/Paladin, whatever who had about 64 HPs @ the time.

I think that's stupid.  They could'a found another way to make sure the PC was arrested instead of killing him outright.  Just my thoughts. CK
