Diary of Aly Zebeybryn the Drow Cavalier.

Str 18/55, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 11, Wis 13, Cha 18  ** Two handed weapon. ** Two handed sword. Female.

When I told Gorion that I wanted to be a paladin, he was surprised but pleased. However he did warn me that the taint in my heritage would make it an exceedingly hard path to tread. However I replied that if Drizzt could be a ranger, my path could not be a lot harder. At that he kept silent and I wondered why.

DROW: Drow, also known as dark elves, are the subterranean cousins of high elves.

Their black skin and pale hair are a curse for their allegiance with the spider goddess, Lolth. Drow societies are usually ruled by cruel clerics of Lolth and their noble houses.

Dark elves are known for their arrogance, cruelty, and penchant for civil war.

- ADVANTAGES: +1 to Intelligence, +1 to Charisma, Magic Resistance of 50% and +2% every  level thereafter to a maximum of 80%, +2 to all Spell Saves and Faerie Fire 3/Day.

- DISADVANTAGES: -20% experience modifier, and -1 to THAC0 and saving throws when outside  during the day.

Mel{3} - half-elf archer (3rd and final update)

I'd set Mel the target this morning of not going shopping until she had acquired 100k gold.  That required doing some encounters I wouldn't normally bother with, but she got there in the end.  The last couple of thousand came at the ankheg nest where she abandoned her crossbow for a while - stealth allowing her to attack in melee against ankhegs using missile weapons.

After buying a few goodies she moved straight on to Baldurs Gate and picked up the tomes (succesfully interrupting Jalantha's and Marek's spells and using stealth shots on Ramazith).  She also picked up the Helm of Balduran before sneaking into the Iron Throne and being returned to Candlekeep.

After looting the tombs Mel sneaked past the dopplegangers to Prat's party.  All her stealth shots were successful there, so she didn't need any protection.  For the hell of it she used the green scroll from the Iron Throne to kill the basilisks on the way out.

Back in the City she killed Slythe with stealth shots before indulging herself with potions for an assault on the palace.  Her Bhaal horrors affected one doppleganger each, but the remainder weren't cut down quite in time to save Liia (though Belt was never in danger).

After slaughtering her way through the maze she sneaked into the temple and pulled Sarevok out with a dispelling arrow.  She then hid, took potions and finished him off by running and shooting her crossbow.  Her extended earlier encounters meant she got the XP for level 9 in that fight and she's just arrived in Jon's dungeon and taken that level up.

Congrats on finishing BG1 again. Do I take it that if you kill Marek without him speaking to you, you don't have to do the quest?

That's true, though it's not what I did in this run (if you don't do the quest you have to either pickpocket or kill the cleric if you want to get the wisdom tome).

Little help guys & gals, just finished killing the four warders in the first labyrinth level of DsT.  I've looked everywhere & the last warder I gave the wine to dropped it where he'd stood but know runestone.  Only two of the warders left anything behind, the just disappeared in the red cloud like a battle Horror.  I'd hate to give up on DsT - trying to wrack up experience.

Any thoughts.  I could find the battle again but that would feel cheap.  CKT

Are you sure all 4 of them died?  Sometimes they suffer a morale failure and run downstairs - if the one with the exit wardstone does this there's no way to follow!  You could use the console to get the exit wardstone and go down to see if that's what happened ...

Hmmm. Pretty sure all four died.  I fought them on the first level down, not in the Great Hall. Instead I drew them upstairs to try & separate them. I went down to the Great Hall to look for the wardstone but maybe he's gone down one of the hallways.  I saved w/o resting so hopefully there's still a chance.  Too much experience to walk away if @ all possible.  Can't get the dagger or the 2-Handed Sword +3, enchanted plate mail, etc, all of which I was counting on finding.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 51 - (update 1)
Amend, dwarf cleric (Grond0) & Tenju, half-elf skald (Gate70)

After the debacle of me losing the save for MP50 we decided to create new characters rather than start the previous 2 from Candlekeep again.

The session for this pair went pretty well, with the normal early run targets being hit - for instance Shoal, basilisks, sirines & golems provided quick XP, while Meilum, Silke and Basillus offered equipment upgrades.

Silence has been used to good effect, for instance preventing Meilum from reacting while he was being bludgeoned to death.  Kirian's group was also silenced, as well as being stuck inside a stinking cloud while skeletons assaulted them.  The only potentially dangerous moment was when Amend tried to silence Sil, but moved forward fractionally while he was casting - Sil then spotted him and came forward to talk.  Fortunately Sil failed her saving throw, so didn't take any action (such as charming or shooting us).

We did a number of reputation quests at the end of the session and that is now up to 18, so we'll probably be heading up to Ulgoth's Beard at the start of the next session.

Stats:

Amend, cleric 6, 41 HPs, 29 kills

Tenju, skald 6, 33 HPs, 46 kills, 0 deaths

I FOUND IT! I'd killed one of the four @ the foot of the stairs leading down into the Great Hall from the first level down. I'd killed three of them on the first level down & thought I'd killed all four there. I'm glad I found the 'Control/Tab' combo to see things on the ground cause the Bastard Sword & Wardstone were in 'the black.'

Breen the human thief (for now) - Micro-update

Traveling with: Ajantis, Branwen, Kivan, Imoen

I decided to take a play out of Grond0's playbook and deal with the baslisks early. Ajantis soloed the basislisks with the green scroll. Mutamutin's insistence on talking was his undoing, as he was led by himself right to the weapons of the party. I thought I had a good plan for Kirian's party - opening silence, with arrows of biting being fired at both casters. Anjantis threw some darts Kirian's way, and Imoen used MM wand to burn through her mirror images. As it happened, Branwen won the fight for us, as her silences shut up both enemy casters - easy victory then.

Interesting battle with Mulahey - he cast a few spells our way, but somehow Ajantis managed to make his saves - Mulahey himself saved vs. two holds and a command - however, concentrated fire finally brought him down - his minions were of little trouble after that.

Nimbul succumbed to a command of Branwen's. Tranzig defeated basically by concentrated fire, though we did have bless/chant too.

The HP of the party is pretty low, everyone has only 20's HP, even the tanks. If this doesn't improve, might be a bit dicey later, guess we'll just have see how it goes. Kivan and Ajantis are level 4, everyone else is level 5.

We have just arrived at the bandit camp. We want to get this out of the way, as Imoen is dualing to mage next level.

I led my subordinates back to Durlag’s Tower to begin investigation of the labyrinths below ground.  En route I had them slay two wolves & six Kobolds that got in my way.

Once there, I had us descend. I’d had us go down once just to look around & Safana detected a trap right across the main entrance but couldn’t disarm it. On return, she was still not successful so I quaffed a Potion of Absorption & a Potion of Fire Resistance, not knowing what kind of trap it was. I tripped it & took a practically harmless Fireball.  Looking around it became obvious that I was looking @ the Great Hall that had once been the center of life in Durlag’s Keep. I immediately directed Safana to do nothing but look for traps, then I had us stay left & work our way thru the level. In all, I led the destruction of four Gnolls, eight Ghasts, two Skeleton Warriors, two Battle Horrors, three Greater Doppelgangers, four Flesh Golems, twelve Phase Spiders, two Wraith Spiders, two Mustard Jellies, about 17 Skeletons & 28 Zombies as I tore thru the place. My subordinates made mistakes & cost me four of the five Raise Dead scrolls that Viconia was packing. There were numerous traps & Safana, even as a NAME LEVEL thief capable of heading her own Thieves Guild, was not up to finding all of them & there were a few she did find that she couldn’t disarm, as well as some locks she couldn’t pick. Off of the Great Hall were a library, a lush bedroom, a smaller bedroom, servant’s quarters, a reading room, a store room & a forge room among others.

RESTING IN A BEDROOM IN THE LABYRINTH'S W/MY LOOKOUTS POSTED

I was finding some weird items amongst the treasure & leaving them until I found a gong & remembered I’d seen a gong mallet & mallet head. When I found the forge room I knew I could put the mallet back together. Then I remembered some grapes we found, a winepress, a strange stone & some switch. Then I remembered how when I found the reading room after having Quayle read thru tomes about Durlag suddenly there was a voice from the next room saying something about my having, ‘raised my deeds.’ I suddenly felt the need to put these pieces together. There were some little runty Dwarven warders that spoke in riddles when I had them approached. It started to make sense so I fixed the gong & had Kagain ring it. Nothing happened except a small hum but I went out & had Safana approach the warders again & three of them said I’d solved the riddle & they disappeared. I looked @ the map I had Kagain scratching out & realized there was an incomplete part between a treasure room I found & the wine press & just east of the servants quarters. Sure enough there was a room w/a strange engine & the switch I’d found turned it on just enough so I knew it was so.  I went back & got the grapes & took them to the wine press because I remembered the last warder had mentioned a crimson drink or something. When I went back to the winepress it was finicky but suddenly it pressed the grapes & I had Safana catch the juice in a bottle that we capped took to the last warder. He seemed satisfied & threatened to kill us but nothing happened. I tried beating the snot out of him but he just stood there, so dawg tired & out of spells, I went to  Beregost to sell all the gems etc & ID a set of Bracers that turned out to be cursed but still brought 150 gold. On the way to Beregost I had my subordinates smash six Gibberling’s that attacked…stupid, mindless creatures. While on the way to Beregost & back, Safana realized the wine was still in her belt pouch, the warder hadn’t taken it, so Quayle checked it out, made a positive ID & I immediately headed us back to go battle the warders. Knowing that they’re going to attack is a great advantage.

Key Event: I found the last warder, offered him the wine & the fight was on, made more difficult when an Ogre Quayle created from a Scroll of Monster Summoning III & a Skeleton created by either Viconia or Branwen, I think the latter, turned hostile when they got caught up in Grease also created by one of Quayle’s scrolls.  W/Spiders Bane I was able to traverse the Grease & offer the wine to the final warder. Then I made my way back toward the main body of my subordinates, unhappy to see that they were still struggling w/the Ogre & the Skeleton. To make matters worse, Branwen had gotten her feet in the Grease. Before I got back, one of the warders was already there fighting w/Kagain & Kagain was taking hits but giving back too. I hollered for my subordinates to go up the stairs but when we got there I realized Branwen was still stuck in the Grease trying frantically to get to the stairs. Two of the warders were waiting in the archway leading to the stairs &, try as she might, she couldn’t get her footing & eventually died there. I had the rest of us focus on one warder that was in our midst & we killed him – but I forgot about him. Once Branwen fell & we killed the warder nearest us, I led the remainder of my subordinates up the stairs to the first lower level. The two warders that killed Branwen came up quickly, one was near death, the other injured. Safana tried to free herself but was trapped & one of them took her life. I, too, was stuck in the doorway & the two warders had gotten in front of me in the confusion. Kagain got free, badly injured & switched to his Throwing Axe +2. Viconia & Quayle started using their Slings, Viconia w/+2 Stones & Quayle w/+1 Stones & they were affective breaking down the two warders. I finally killed one of the two but I too was taking hits & had to quaff a PoH or EoH, can’t remember which I used. Then all four of us turned our attention to the third warder & he, like the other two eventually evaporated into a burst of red steam that seemed to vanish upward into the air, exactly like a Doom Guard. I had Kagain quaff a PoH & I guess I did too, but I wasted no time going back down to the Great Hall to find the fourth warder & destroy him. He immediately saw us as we came into the archway & he chased me up the stairs where he fought a moment or two, hit me once, but then became eviscerated like the others. They were all dead but as I searched & searched I couldn’t find the key to the 2nd labyrinth level. After going back over our steps I had us go thru all the tunnels thinking maybe I’d only killed three. In so doing, I killed two more Ghasts, seven Zombies & two more Phase Spiders. In the battle w/the Phase Spiders, Quayle got cornered & fell to poison. As the last Phase Spider fell, my Queen Malcanthet granted me a new surge of power & I knew then that I was even more imposing than ever before. I had Viconia use her last of five Raise dead Scrolls she’d come to DsT with in hand. There was just too much to carry & for whatever reason, I chose Quayle @ that moment over Safana or Branwen. I guided us out of the tunnels past two more Flesh Golems & then back out into the Great Hall, where we searched everywhere before finding the Rune Stone needed to descent to the 2nd labyrinth level. Then it was out of there to raise Safana & Branwen.  We crossed six stupid Xvarts on the way & swatted them like flies. I raised my subordinates, reorganized a bit, especially my Cleric & Mage Scrolls to make the more important ones easy to locate.  Then it was back to the Durlag’s Castle & Keep to descend.

Monet - elf wild mage (update 1)

I thought it was time to put another wild mage through his paces.

So far Monet has made good progress.  He's cleared everything in the wilderness areas he intends to and will be heading to the Nashkel mine next.  He's not yet taken any damage or been targeted by any spell - thanks to regular use of invisibility by his familiar.  The only spell he's used so far was to summon his fairy dragon.

For most of his adventures he's been relying just on his darts and the familiar's attacks, but has started recently to use the wands found in his travels.  Highlights include summons for the sirines, paralysation for Lindin (to make things safer for Korax), and about 6 charges to empty the wand of frost on the doomsayer (then using a single scorcher to finish it off).    He's still got 2 wands of fire available (he got the one from Ulcaster by using a potion of fire resistance along with ring and robe to avoid damage from the trap there).

Best of Luck Grond - what is this, your 40th wild mage?

Must be something over 50.  I've got 45 folders within Photobucket describing themselves as wild mage and some of those include repeated attempts.  In the early stages the runs were not realistic prospects, but by now I've developed tactics giving a decent chance of success - mistakes are far more likely to result in failure than any inherent problems with the wild mage class.

Monet - elf wild mage (update 2)

Monet sneaked through the Nashkel mine and waited patiently while the familiar nibbled Mulahey to death.  On exit, a couple of fireballs were sufficient to deal with the amazons before the familiar tried to nibble Mulahey.  However, he panicked and ran into the inn - resulting in Monet having to use a scorcher to finish him off.

A single scorcher finished off Tranzig before Monet used his invisibility ring for the first time to sneak in and out of the Bandit camp - a potion of absorption protecting against the trap.  After sneaking through the Cloakwood a couple of fireballs killed Kysus and Rezdan.  Drasus wasn't quite quick enough to move to focus on Monet throwing a fireball and running and 4 more fireballs killed him and Genthore.

Monet sneaked down to Daveorn where the familiar nibbled the guard (requiring a 20 to hit, so that took some time with doing only d2 base damage - while I read a book).  The familiar triggered the trap to reveal the battle horrors before using an invisible rest to heal.  A fireball on the battle horrors was followed by ring invisibility.  Then a scorcher (destroying that wand), while the familiar recast invisibility, killed one of the battle horrors.  The other was finished off by a single wand magic missile before another rest upstairs (successful first time - avoiding the need to use a potion of invisibility). A potion of magic blocking got Monet through the remaining traps and countered Daveorn's fireball and lightning.  Some summoned ogres then destroyed that wand, but also finished off Daveorn and his pet mustard jelly.

After flooding the mine Monet has just made his way invisibly to Baldur's Gate ready for the last leg of his BG1 adventures.  He's still uninjured and should have a pretty good chance of remaining that way now (the Daveorn encounter is one of the trickier ones to avoid injuries).

Monet - elf wild mage (3rd and final update)

Monet has arrived in Jon's dungeon, although once more I failed in my target to get him there without taking any damage ...

In the City, he picked up the tome of dexterity before a freshly purchased wand of monster summoning provided the means to kill Jalantha and Marek (successfully interrupting the latter's confusion spell) in the course of getting the wisdom tome.  Monet left Ramazith for now (until he can kick the door down).

Monet went to pick up the red and violet potions and used the former to learn all the spells he wanted at Sorcerous Sundries.  He then sneaked into the Iron Throne before reporting to Duke Eltan and being sent back to Candlekeep.  He tried to detour to Durlag's Tower to get the tome there, only to get ambushed on the way - and I realised he'd forgotten to rest after using the red potion and didn't have another normal strength potion.  I considered trying to just wait in the encounter area for the red potion to wear off (16 hours), but decided there was too much chance I would miss that happening and get attacked when invisibility subsequently wore off.  So instead Monet took the violet potion, which means he will have to resort to knock for the tomes at Candlekeep.

At Durlag's Tower Monet scorched the battle horrors before picking up the tome using a potion of clarity.

At Candlekeep I could have used potions of magic blocking to protect against traps, but decided to go with the longer lasting potions of magic protection.  However, that proved to be a mistake when Monet was hit by the first magic missile trap despite his 105% magic resistance.  There was a discussion recently about the anomaly that magic resistance would stop a basilisk gaze when magic protection would not; this is the opposite effect where magic protection works against the magic missiles (as does minor globe of invulnerability), but magic resistance does not. The magic resistance did protect against lightning / fire traps after Monet knocked the tombs with tomes in.

He left invisibly and returned to the City where Ramazith had a short conversation with some ogres.  It took 3 lots of summons to down Slythe before Monet moved on to the palace.  There he took some potions and produced summons before opening up with a malison and then confusion.  That was effective and, though the confused dopplegangers still managed to kill Liia, Belt survived to send Monet after Sarevok.

Monet used a scroll of magic protection to trigger the traps while going invisibly through the maze.  He took no chances with Sarevok, pulling him out alone and using summons to keep him occupied.  Sarevok survived the 120 +1 darts he'd brought, but died soon after with plenty of summons and magic missiles still available.

Monet{2} - elf wild mage (update 1)

After the unfortunate end of his first incarnation I restarted Monet immediately.  In the 90 minutes or so waiting for the family to get up he's made good progress - doing most of the wilderness encounters that require just familiar attacks and darts.

Just 2 problems so far.  On one occasion I got the sequencing of invisibility wrong and had to try and rest while visible - Monet was interrupted, but successfully ran off the edge of the map without being ambushed during travel.  The other was more serious when I was running and shooting the wolf pack in the Beregost temple area.  I moved the familiar and Monet together at one point and a ridiculous pathing choice for the familiar took it within reach of the vampiric wolf.  Up to this point Monet had not used wands at all, but he immediately unlimbered his wand of fire to try and save it.  The first scorcher killed a worg before it could take more than 1 bite.  The vampiric wolf saved against the second round of damage from the first scorcher and would almost certainly have killed the familiar with one more bite - fortunately it failed its save against a second scorcher before it could get a chomp in.

Monet{2} - elf wild mage (update 2)

Monet finished off the remainder of his intended low-value wilderness encounters (i.e. everything except the basilisks and lighthouse) by going to Durlag's Tower to get the tome there.  He also got to level 7 there courtesy of the frost wand and a pair of battle horrors.

I didn't do the basilisks early in order to wait until Monet had acquired staff proficiency.  Attacking the basilisks in melee with a staff can be done from a little distance - making it easy to react if they switch from gaze to melee attack.  There were no mistakes with them, or with the sirines (summons) or golems (darts) and Monet is now in the Nashkel mines.

Monet{2} - elf wild mage (3rd and final update)

Monet sneaked through the Nashkel mine.  This time, rather than just let the familiar nibble Mulahey I tried to block him in, but the fairy dragon icon seemed to be too small to do that and Mulahey managed to talk.  A fireball immediately killed his support troops though and, although he managed to tag the familiar with rigid thinking, he suffered a morale failure straight after that and never recovered.

There was no mercy for the amazons (fireballs), Nimbul (nibbled - nice and quick due to being equipped with a missile weapon) or Tranzig (scorcher).  I decided this time to attack the party in the tent and that looked to have gone successfully with only Britik left.  However, with him at near death I was briefly distracted by being called in the real world and didn't react in time when Britik changed targets to attack Monet - once more causing a failure to complete BG1 without taking damage .

I'm not sure if I'll continue with Monet in BG2, but I did quickly run through the remainder of BG1 without worrying about the odd bit of damage.  I was a bit careless in the final battle - allowing a hobgoblin elite to retreat far enough from Sarevok to trigger the others to come into the battle.  However, Angelo was quickly killed by his companions in retaliation for his fireball and by that time Sarevok was almost dead anyway - a couple more lots of summons saw him finished off.

Degas - elf wild mage (update 1)

I was unsure whether to continue with Monet, so thought I would roll up a new character and see what happened.  After half an hour the best score I had was 89 and I was thinking about giving up.  However, then this roll appeared - I think that's my second best ever attempt from untold thousands of rolls.

Taking that as an omen, I will retire Monet and try hard to make an impression with Degas instead.  I'm playing with a basic BGT installation on core rules.  Like my other characters Degas will be restricted by not allowing him to use any healing potions (or any other active form of healing) or antidote potions.  I'm aiming for him to get through BG1 without taking any damage, so the lack of healing should not be a consideration there ...

Degas - elf wild mage (update 2)

Degas successfully produced a familiar (that will be the only spell cast with a chance of a surge for quite a while) and the fairy dragon tanked Carbos and Shank while Degas did the other quests in Candlekeep.

At the crossroads the familiar used mirror image to attack Xzar and Montaron (I don't allow recruiting of NPCs in solo runs).  Occasionally I've been forced to run when doing that, but this time the familiar and Degas both hit to kill Xzar before he could attempt a cast.  Montaron could then be run round by the familiar while Degas threw darts.

Degas travelled invisibly to the coast.  Travel between areas, except where no time passes, is always done using the familiar's invisibility 10' ability - the invisibility lasts 24 hours meaning it is always possible to travel safely and rest without danger to get invisibility back.  There, the familiar tanked Shoal - once it has attacked her she does not try to talk to the familiar (although the familiar can open a conversation if it doesn't mind a kiss of death - I have done that once or twice to get the Helm of Defense).  Shoal does not have a melee weapon equipped and the resulting +4 to hit and damage means the familiar does damage far more rapidly than usual.  The 2 levels for killing her gave Degas a slightly disappointing 8 HPs (the d4 and +2 constitution bonus provide an average 4.5 HPs per level).

In Beregost Degas found a book for Firebead and calmed Marl down.  He killed Landrin's spiders, while the familiar acted as an invisible blocker - and then used similar tactics on Karlat.

South of Beregost a pair of ogrillons were enticed away one at a time.  They followed the familiar round and round Degas while he threw darts.  The familiar was more aggressive against the hobgoblin with the boots - drawing it away and tanking it with mirror image.  Degas handed in the boots and Mirianne's letter before travelling to Nashkel.  There he picked up the ankheg armour and informed Oublek that his name was not Greywolf.  He also had a long chat to Noober (actually quite short as he was initiating all the conversations).  That got him to level 4 and 4 more HPs.

Degas - elf wild mage (update 3)

At the Carnival the familiar nibbled Vitiare to death (like a number of others his script means he takes no action if a party member is not visible) and ran Oopah round while Degas threw darts.  Degas also bought the red and violet potions and put those into storage for later use before resting to get Bhaal CLW.

Degas picked up the wand of frost from the Nashkel mine area before travelling on to the valley of the tombs.  There he got Hentold's dagger before robbing the revenant's tomb invisibly (overlapping each sarcophagus using R-click movement in order to take the contents from the inventory screen).  Rather than doing the same to the ghasts Degas rested until the tomb was unguarded and then attacked the ghasts - pulling them out of the tomb to be killed by run and shoot tactics.  There was a first worrying moment of the run when I did not notice that Degas had run out of equipped darts and he ran almost within reach of the last ghast before turning back.  Degas summoned some hobgoblins who tried shooting Narcillicus, but he managed to go invisible and made his escape.

Next, Degas travelled to Firewine Bridge.  On the way he stopped to save Arabelle from some xvarts.  He used sling bullets to attack the xvarts one at a time, pulling them out without alerting the others (can't do that using darts due to the shorter range).  At Firewine Degas remained invisible, while the familiar nibbled Meilum.  His bracers are a huge benefit to Degas - considerably more than doubling the effectiveness of his darts.

Degas journeyed north to the FAI, trying out his new bracers on an ogre and picking up a ring of protection on the way.  At the FAI he found a ring of wizardry (of no use to his as he's not casting spells anyway) then darted some hobgoblins before returning Joia's ring.  The familiar tried nibbling Tarnesh, but his morale broke and he ran onto Degas' darts.  Inside the inn, Degas returned Landrin's goods and picked up the pantaloons.

North again and Degas agreed to do some work for some fishermen before immediately changing his mind and executing them.  He robbed the ankheg nest - the familiar recasting invisibility, timed to finish as Degas exited from picking up the treasure.  After asking the farmer to look after some of his excess funds, Degas went north again.  The familiar talked to Tenya while Degas stayed back throwing darts until Tenya was ready to give in.  Giving her back her bowl got Degas to level 5 and yet another 4 HPs.  Degas then opened up access to Ulgoth's Beard, but didn't immediately go there (he's waiting for his reputation to improve further).

Degas - elf wild mage (update 4)

Degas darted a wolf before putting a chicken in his pack.  At High Hedge the familiar showed itself to a skeleton to drag it away from its friends for easy disposal.  Its skull helped to successfully restore Melicamp.

While travelling to the lighthouse area a skeleton archer wandered into sight while the familiar was casting invisibility, forcing Degas to run.  Fortunately there was no interruption when they rested in order to get invisibility back and they arrived safely.  The familiar dragged 3 worgs back separately to be darted to help Ardrouine out.

South along the coast Degas sheltered behind the invisible familiar again while dealing with Charleston Nib's spearmen.  He took the idol, but left invisibly to avoid the doomsayer for now.  He talked to Brage and conducted him to the Nashkel temple (getting his reputation up to 20 as a result).  While there he also went to the inn to rest - on entry he immediately stepped back to the doorway and out of sight of Neira while the familiar went to nibble her.

Back at Ulgoth's Beard he bought the staff +3, cloak of displacement, greenstone amulet and wand of frost.  The invisibility ring will need to wait until more money is raised.

With so many wand of frost charges now available I decided to use some at Durlag's Tower.  Typically I pull both battle horrors there out together in order to minimise use of charges, but to make dodging them safer I started doing them one at a time.  Unfortunately, in killing the second one I once again got distracted by real life events and got hit just before it died.

I probably will continue with this run, but will put it on hold for the moment.

Same wishes here. I have never rolled a wild mage so have never rolled a wild mage with those stats but this week with another character I rolled 103! :) The only score higher that I have ever rolled was 104 for a cleric/ranger which is one of the easiest to roll for good stats.

Alac - dwarf fighter thief speed run (update 1)

I'm going to attempt my 1 day challenge.  I probably won't be totally uninterrupted today, but should be able to play for the large majority of the time.  Game starting at 3.00 am local time ...

Alacstartingrecord.jpg

Edit: attempt 1 failed at 3.52 - took multiple hits from bandits when trying to pull Taugosz away on his own (he died after running the gauntlet, but not getting out of range of arrows already in flight.  A healing potion would have saved him, but I'm not allowing those and I didn't want to use his potion of invisibility.  In retrospect he should have used potion of invulnerability stolen from the Carnival.

I've tried that encounter a few times before without problems, so just unlucky I think.  However, it's not a crucial encounter so I won't bother next time.  Given the early death I will try starting Alac again.

Edit: just noticed I suggested in my notes using a potion of speed there, which would probably have been a good idea!
