I led my strike team against the mines during the last four days. The first level down was just a mining effort where we defeated about seven guards. Aside from that I learned that the slaves who were working might be freed if we could link up w/a man named Rill deeper down.  The second level offered the greatest challenge we faced. The second level was finished w/10x10 corridors which turned out to be the standard throughout the complex. As soon as we entered we had to battle four guards that we defeated. Continuing past some empty storage rooms, through a hidden door we fought & killed two Ghasts before

Key Event:  …locating a row of cell blocks where we found Rill & gave him 100 gold to help free the slaves. Then we spoke w/a Dwarf, Yeslick, who offered to join us b/c his clan had once called the mine home. Maybe I should have taken him b/c just moments later I was in the toughest fight I’ve fought to date. In the end, I estimate that we killed a mage, one or two BTE & at least six guards. I didn’t take as close an inventory after this battle b/c it was just me & Jaheira left standing. I let us get tangled up in the cells & back hall & there were so many of them, some even circling around behind us. t was just hard getting out w/the two of us. The crazy mage fired a Lightning Bolt down the hall killing Dynahier & one of her own guards. It all got so desperate that I don’t know much else but that we won. Jaheira & gathered our companion’s equipment & returned to Gellana

Aftermath of Battle in the Cloakwood Mines

The third floor was full of Chill Hobgoblins & guards w/their Splint Mail & Long Swords. By the time we fought three Chill Elite Hobgoblins & five guards in the entrance chamber &, I estimate, 20 total Chill Hobgoblins in their barracks’, three guards, sergeants I guess, in the private rooms, we were spent & needed rest. In trying to do so, we were attacked by ten more guards that we defeated but w/difficulty. I had to insist from then on, that resting in here, we’d take off no more than our helms, girdles & bracers b/c to avoid getting caught flat footed. We still had battles waiting w/a mage & a Chill Hobgoblin, a filthy Ogre Mage & at least 15 more Chill Hobgoblins in various room or in the hall. We defeated all of them & elected to rest @ the door leading to the next lower level rather than leave & allow them to reinforce w/more Chill Hobgoblins & Guards in the complex.

The fourth floor turned out to be anti-climactic really. A lone guard challenged us & we defeated him when we entered the level. After unlocking & raiding a chest, Imoen suddenly found trap after trap, which w/her skill she quickly disarmed only to come face to face w/Davaeorn, the master of this mine. He only lasted as long as he did b/c he continued teleporting around but we stayed on him. Like the other mage earlier he fired off a Lightning Bolt in here & one ricochet killed Dynahier. Both Dynahier & Imoen used Magic Missile on Davaeorn & Khalid broke through his defenses w/his Longbow. Jaheira cast Summon Insects & Animal Summoning I & then added in her sling. Minsc slew him eventually & we made a huge haul of magic items, scrolls & gold before returning to the FAI. On the way back, we were attacked & defeated three Giant Spiders which allowed Khalid a promotion as a Ranger/Archer.

Treasure of Note: Purse = 7086 gold pieces; Bracers of Defense AC6 x2 (Imoen, Dynahier); Girdle of Bluntness & Ring of Fire Resistance (Me); Quarter Staff +1 (sold) as well as were Dynahier’s, now useless Bracers of Defense AC8

Current Disposition: Back @ the FAI, where we sold plenty of loot, including several magic items & then rested before we head to Baldur's Gate.

Next Steps:  Everything points to Baldur’s Gate so that is where I am leading us next.

Level Up:

·         Silvanus granted Jaheira the power of an Initiate of the Fifth Circle (Druid/Priestess of Silvanus//7) & a 4th Level Spell

·         Khalid skills as a Ranger/Archer are now those of a Guide (Level 6) & he improved to **** w/his Longbow

Current Party: (Reputation: 16 (+2) Popular, saved slaves from Cloakwood Mines)

·         Gawain: Ftr/6; Full Plate w/Large Shield +1 w/Boots of Grounding & Girdle of Bluntness, Bastard Sword**** (SSS**) (Taugasz Khosann))

Gracchus - dwarf kensai (2nd and final update)

In Baldur's Gate Gracchus collected the tomes and then fought the Mountain Maulers to get a +2 axe.  Using the same potion buffs he went to the Iron Throne and destroyed them (starting with a potion of firebreath).

After reporting in to Duke Eltan he returned to Candlekeep.  A scroll of protection from magic and a storm giant strength potion allowed him to loot the tombs.  He added some further potion buffs for the dopplegangers, using dual-wielding for the first time, and then carried on to get his throwing axe from Prat.  He hadn't brought protection from petrification so used a potion of invisibility to leave past the basilisks.

Back in Athkatla, Slythe failed to lay a finger on him through his potion buffs.  At the palace he added DUHM before using horror to scare 1 of them.  His second horror scared a second (and by that time he had sent a third running due to damage).  The remaining enemies had been attacking hard and killed Liia about then, but were quickly taken down by his dual-wielding axes.  Hunting down the scared ones, I was surprised to find he had amassed enough XP to get to level 9 (he didn't take the level though).

After smacking his way through the maze he took the long way round to avoid the Undercity party and arrive at the temple.  An initial throwing axe brought Sarevok out alone and Gracchus then attempted to trade a few blows in melee - before deciding that wasn't a very good idea!  A potion of regeneration healed him while he ran round throwing axes at Sarevok.  I would have tried coming back into melee to finish him off, but wasn't keeping track of damage properly and Sarevok ran earlier than I expected.

Need help folks. I'm taking care of business in BG, finished the Seven Suns & Ogre Mage in E BG Sewers.  I've also killed all the Doppelgangers for Aldeth Sashenstar @ the Merchant League but neither he nor Brandilar acknowedges te fact so I can't complete the request.

Someone in a Spellhold Studiospost says they fixed it with CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("AldethDopple","GLOBAL",6). Somewhere else it said to find, 'baldur.ini' but I can't find that in either my BG or Tutu folders.

Ya'll know me though. I don't even know what that means or where to find the console.  Can someone assist so that I can try & recover the experience...& that Bastard Sword +1/+3?

PS - For what difference it might make, remember I play BG Tutu as I prefer it to BGEE.

Thanks, CKT

You should find baldur.ini in your tutu folder - the game won't work without a configuration file so I think it will be in there somewhere (try sorting the files into alphabetical order to make it easy to find).  If you've got Vista or a later version of Windows it's possible that your setup is not showing you file extensions - so look for a file called baldur that you can open with notepad.

Once open you should create a new line immediately under Program Options and type the following in it

Debug Mode=1

When you start the game again you should be able to open the console by pressing the ctrl and space keys together.  You could then try resetting global variables as suggested above.  That's sometimes not easy as some quests have a number of variables associated with them.  As an alternative you could also use the console to change XP and add in the sword you want - let me know if you want the commands to do that.

Worked like a charm Grondo0. Thanks.  You're gonna make me dangerous if you teach me how to do more than one thing a year though.  Funny, my Randomizer Mod put the +1/+3 Bastard Sword w/the Ogre Mage & a Tome of Understanding w/Aldeth so I got the Sword & kicked Dy's Int up to 18.

Thanks again for the help. CKT

Spectre {5} - human monk (update 1)

After Gracchus the kensai met an untimely end I thought I would have another go with a monk.  After reading polytope's post I decided to install Zyraen's XP cap, using the following limits.

03 750000 - Chapters 1-3
05 1200000 - Chapters 4-5
06 1600000 - Chapter 6
07 2000000 - Chapter 7
YS 3000000 - prior to killing Yaga Shura and completing Pocketplane Challenge 2
SD 3750000 - prior to killing Sendai and completing Pocketplane Challenge 3
AB 4500000 - prior to killing Abazigal and completing Pocketplane Challenge 4
BL 5500000 - after completing Pocketplane Challenge 4

Limiting XP to 2m within SoA will require significantly different tactics to my normal ones in BG2.  As a result I'll only be using my standard restrictions of no healing potions/antidotes and no item-based active healing for this incarnation of Spectre.

Spectre {5} - human monk (update 2)

Spectre is off and running and will be heading to the Nashkel mines shortly.  He got off to a disappointing start with just the 10 HPs for killing Shoal, though he improved a bit by getting 8 more for talking to Marl.  After acquiring the boots of stealth on the way to Nashkel, he rested there to get a CLW special ability (which will allow him to complete the Unseeing Eye quest if he wants to).

He spent a while running Meilum round some rocks throwing darts before heading for the basilisk area - surviving a bandit ambush en route.  Basilisk bashing got him a minimum 3 HPs for level 5, then 7 for level 6 (his 38 HPs at this stage being 4.5 below average).  Korax managed to last just long enough to allow Spectre to kill Kirian before running away.

The Ring of Wizardry and some loot stolen from an ankheg nest allowed Spectre to buy the Cloak of Displacement, Greenstone Amulet, Wand of Heavens and a few clerical scrolls from Ulgoth's Beard.  He also picked up Dushai's ring while in the area.

Suitably protected, Spectre returned to finish off Kirian's gang - realising in the process that he'd forgotten to loot her body when there before.

Before progressing further with the main quest Spectre killed an innocent to reduce his reputation (in order to get a few evil Bhaal powers).

We had to take the road north from FAI thru the Fishing Village to get to Wyrm’s Crossing & over the bridge spanning the River Chionthar before arriving in BG.  We encountered & defeated four bandits, six Hobgoblins & four Ankheg’s.  Upon arriving our goal was to find an Inn that could take all six of us (five really since Khalid & Jaheira are one). Secondarily, I am in search of a mage or shopkeeper that can identify potions. Crossing the bridge, we were approached by a man, Scar, who it turns out is 2nd in Command of the Flaming Fist. After we exchanged introductions he asked us if we’d be willing to look into strange activity @ the Seven Sun’s Trading Company & particularly search for its owner, Jhasso. We agreed & entered the city only to run into Elminster again. The most important aspect of this meeting was his assurance that Scar, & the Commander of the Flaming Fist, Duke Eltan, were men we could trust.  We then went to a shop called Sorcerous Sundries, which couldn’t identify our many potions, before finding a perfect, out of the way Inn in SE Baldur’s Gate.

After visiting a Potion Store in W BG where I still couldn’t identify my potions once again, I led us to the Seven Suns to look into things there. Three short conversations w/merchants & two of them suddenly shape shifted into Doppelgangers. We smashed them & headed through a door leading to the basement where we killed another Doppelganger before finding & releasing Jhasso. We garnered a little treasure for our efforts, then went up to the second floor where we killed two more Doppelgangers before heading to report to Scar who gave us 4000gps & much praise. Scar asked me if we would investigate some mysterious disappearances in E BG which he thought might be answered in the sewers beneath E BG. I agreed to help the he & FF.

On the way, we stopped by the Merchant League to say hello to Aldeth Sashenstar & found ourselves in another investigation. Aldeth was concerned that his partners were acting strangely & making poor, if not subversive business decisions. He asked if I’d help & provided cover by telling everyone we were old friends & put us up in guest rooms. Having just come from the Seven Suns, we’d only talked to two, three people before we knew there were Doppelgangers about. We were looking around & went up to the third floor & were up to our ankles in Doppelgangers. We killed at least a dozen Doppelgangers there but Minsc was surrounded & killed too. Continuing our investigation w/o Minsc, one of the merchant’s mentioned checking Zorl’s desk & we found documents incriminating Zorl & Irlentree. I took the information to Brandilar, the Captain of the Guard @ Merchant League & he asked me to wipe out the Doppelgangers. Zorl immediately shape changed into a Doppelganger & we killed him before going downstairs where Irlentree & four other Doppelgangers waited to be defeated. They were. Aldeth rewarded us w/some gratitude, gold & a Tome of Clear Thought.

Key Event:  We were fortunate to find the exact sewer entrance in E BG to drop right into the answer to Scar’s inquiry. An Ogre Mage & what turned out to be 12 Carrion Crawlers. I had us completely patrol the E BG sewers to destroy all the crawlers & two Phase Spiders that had made a home there also. The Ogre Mage had placed his victims in crypts, kept what treasure they had upon them for himself & allowed his crawlers to eat them. I returned to Scar & informed him of this & he asked about a noblewoman of the Sashenstar family. I had a Ruby Ring that belonged to her &, at his request, I returned her body to him so her family good bury her.  He then asked us to come back, if interested & help him investigate the Iron Throne.

Well, my blackguard game ended after completing the Cloakwood mines and doing some choice questing in Baldur's Gate city, everyone around level 7. The 4 guys on the first level of Durlag's Tower  charmed my half-orc blackguard and kagan, then massacred the rest of my party and the game ended with my main guy still being alive. I didn't summon enough skeletons at the beginning and Xzar's dispel magic failed to remove the charm, combination of bad luck and overconfidence I guess, as a half-orc with 19 str/con is super powered in BG1.

I started another one and cheesed the basilisks to level up super fast to level 6 and reform my party all at level 6, feels cheap but it's within the rules of the game so I guess it's ok.

Spectre {5} - human monk (update 3)

Spectre has just arrived in Baldur's Gate for the first time and should be able to complete his BG1 work quite quickly next time.

He started the session by stealthing through the Nashkel Mine to find Mulahey - he failed to recover from an opening stunning greeting.  Outside, a couple of fiery potions nearly killed the amazons and a few stealth attacks finished them off.

Nimbul was another too stunned to talk.  Tranzig saved twice against stealthy stun attacks, but lost his bottle as a result of them anyway and was quickly hunted down.

At the Bandit Camp Spectre just sneaked into the main tent and looted that - using a protection from lightning scroll to protect against the trap.

Before heading for the Cloakwood Spectre took a trip to the lighthouse area, where the Greenstone Amulet allowed him to kill some sirines safely (+6 HPs for level 7).  He killed the golems using +1 darts and looted the pirate treasure.

Spectre ran through the Cloakwood, only pausing to get a potion of invulnerability from Laskal.  At the mine, the mages died in fireballs from stealth and Genthore was darted.  Drasus was horrified at the 4th attempt and badly wounded by darts before being finished off by a first use of the wand of heavens.  After sneaking down to Daveorn the battle horrors were also victims of that wand before Spectre used a potion of magic blocking and a Greenstone Amulet charge to melee Daveorn.  He rested to get Bhaal horror before flooding the mine.

A quick tour of the Sword Coast found enough reputation quests to boost that to 20, along with recovering a couple more tomes.  Spectre bought the Claw of Kazgaroth, but didn't bother with the Horn (which I tend to find more trouble than its worth).  He got his final BG1 level during those travels by using his wand on a battle horror outside Durlag's Tower - a nice maximum 10 HPs taking him to 54 (now just 1.5 below average) - before finding his way to the City.

Spectre {5} - human monk (4th and final update)

Spectre quickly picked up the dexterity tome and then went after the wisdom one - stunning Jalantha by dart before scaring Marek.  He sneaked into the Iron Throne to talk to Thaldorn before being sent to Candlekeep.  A potion of cloud giant strength, topped up by DUHM, was taken between a couple of potions of magic blocking.  That allowed him to acquire the tomes before sneaking out of the catacombs.

Back in the city, Ramazith ran into a stunning fist as Spectre picked up the last tome.  Slythe saved against stunning darts quite a few times, but his luck eventually ran out.

At the palace, potions and a scroll of defensive harmony took Spectre's AC to -11.  That was sufficient for him to stand and fight and, even though his 2 horrors only affected a single doppleganger, his fists soon destroyed the attackers.

He killed the inhabitants of the maze before resting, then sneaked on to the temple.  A few darts ensured that bats would not get in his way before he potioned up (including potions of perception).  A sling bullet brought Sarevok charging out, only to find he was chasing a will-o-the-wisp round a pillar.  It took less than 2 turns (while Spectre's second DUHM was still active) for Sarevok to conclude he had had enough.

Spectre duly reported back to Duke Belt and has arrived in Athkatla ready for the next stage of his adventures.

Multi-Player No-reload Update

Tcos - female, gnome, fighter/thief (protagonist) (Dogdancing)

Zaxxon - male, gnome, fighter/illusionist (Corey_Russell)

This duo did some adventuring today. Some ambushes occurred, but the kobold/goblins are no match at this point.

* We cleared Samuel's map - Tcos was impressed at the vast number of gibberlings we had to battle at once.

* Greywolf defeated - blindness makes him real easy to pump with arrows if he fails his save, which in our case he did just that - sword went to Wewa.

* Cleared area North of Nashkel - was supposed to clear the area with the thief boots, but Corey_Russell brought us to the wrong area....we had to go to the store a lot to sell and return, but the area was cleared without incident.

* Area with the thief boots (and sunken house) - This didn't quite go to plan. Tcos charged into a huge mass of gibberlings that also had 3 ghouls! Zaxxon shouted a warning and she retreated - a single necklace of missiles charge wiped them ALL out - that worked out pretty nice after all! But wait, more hobgoblins, and yes Tcos finds 3 more ghouls! Zaxxon tried to recreate a deja vu, but alas his own fireball killed him, and didn't even kill any ghouls.

Baldr269_zps701267dc.png

Tcos had to travel to Beregost Temple, after taking a brief stop at the City of Beregost, guess Tcos wanted some sights on the way...and raised Zaxxon. The duo then returned to the scene of the crime, to basically travel only in areas already cleared, since Zaxxon was naked - his stuff was still there, good. However, we are full inventory (we don't use bags of holding in BG 1 only BG 2). Thus...

* Duo returns to Beregost to sell. Smithy wanted 8500 for the full plate. Zaxxon does have friends spell - we rested, and used friends x3 to boost Zaxxon's CHA to 21 and tried to buy the plate again - Smithy now only wants 6300 gold! We have 6800! So we get the full plate, Zaxxon sells his plate mail. Then the duo do an armor exchange, giving Tcos the full plate, since she tanks most of the time, plus she must survive.

We arrive back south of Beregost, and will get Tcos's boots in our next session.

Not sure if any of you folks have come across the Charming Rogue class.

I'm using it for Imoen & it keeps me from having to dual her to Mage. I like this.  The kit comes w/a handful on enchantment spells & magic missile so now @ 7th she has 2 Invisibility, 2 Reflected Image, 2 Magic Missile, 2 Friends, 2 Charm Person & 2 set Snare. In addition, she gains the ability to cast illusions @ higher levels.

Dynahier is taking care of the 'big' Mage Work & as an Invoker she has some great spells. Ya'll know I let specialist mages cast only spells from their school from memory but I also give them to them as they advance to where they can use them. Nalia will take care of spell duties in BGII.

Anyway, just wanted ya'll to know of the class if you didn't.  CKT

GAWAIN LEVEL 7

I have not been able to sit & collect my thoughts & place them on parchment in many days but that does not indicate idleness in the least. As a matter of fact we have been moving non-stop w/little rest. You recall Scar asked us to return to talk w/him about investigating the Iron Throne. Things have been a blur since. We immediately assaulted the Iron Throne, killed about eight guards before nearly walking into an ambush on the 5th floor. Whatever the case, they were flat ready & waiting for us. The battle required strategy, gaining space & time to draw them to us. They were tough as nails & we defeated them, I estimate seven of them.  There were likely one mage, a cleric, a couple of knights & a couple of rogue/assassins but I’m not certain & we didn’t have time to do much more than grab their treasure & head for The Flaming Fist headquarters where we talked to Duke Eltan since Scar couldn’t be found. Whatever they were, they were bad asses & we nearly got caught up @ the top of the stairs but were able to withdraw & hit them w/quick strikes from both staircases until they were defeated. When I returned to the Iron Throne, I couldn’t find Scar & ended up w/an audience w/Duke Eltan. Having documents & information placing Rielter & the Iron Throne leaders @ Candlekeep.  He teleported us there &, ‘blink’, I was home.

I wasn’t there long though b/c I’d barely made my reintroductions before I started looking for Rielter….I felt I was getting closer to Gorion’s murderer & I didn’t want to waste a moment.  A couple of men came up to me who knew Gorion & they were pleasant enough, one, Koveras, even gave me a Ring of Protection +1. Shortly afterward, I found Rielter & one of his associates negotiating w/the Knights of the Shield. I was torn about battling in Candlekeep but Duke Eltan & Scar had certainly supported our defeating the enemies in the Seven Suns & Iron Throne, so I was sure they would support me here & I didn’t want them to get away. I had no quarrel w/the Knights of the Shield but they’re known to be of evil intent &, further, they joined Rielter in attacking us. Defeating them was not difficult, although trying to do so w/o causing collateral damage to the library was impossible. We collected what we could that could aid us but in short order Ultruant had us arrested & suddenly appeared he was in w/the Iron Throne in some way. Whatever the case, he was intent on sending us the BG for trial when Tethtoril slipped in & aided me by teleporting us to a part of the keep I’d not known before…the crypts & catacombs.

Key Event:  The crypts & caves were a nightmare of traps, undead & Doppelganger’s. From the moment we were teleported in, we were battling Doppelgangers w/the faces of people I know/knew & loves/respect. There was no time to judge, we had to fight no matter how real they might appear. There were Doppelgangers galore & Skeleton’s w/Composite Longbows. Even Greater Doppelgangers w/the faces of Elminster, Gorion & Tethtoril. By far, the most valuable thing we had going for us was Imoen’s impeccable skill @ detecting & disarming traps. I had to continually move, resting only when we absolutely had to. By the time we left the crypts & mausoleum area we’d defeated, I estimate, three Greater Doppelgangers, a half dozen Doppelgangers, six or eight Skeletons w/Composite Longbows. The place was huge & the tombs were all trapped but Imoen was up to every task & we loaded up. I lost Minsc & Khalid there in the Battle against the false Gorion so we gathered everything of theirs that was important & were forced to drop many gems, weapons we otherwise would have sold. We left the tombs/crypts thru a series of caves that were full of there were many, many Phase, Sword & Wraith Spiders & a couple of Greater Basilisks that we saw just in time & Dynahier cast one of four Protection from Petrification Scrolls on me before I went & hammered them. After that we found the way out to the south side of Candlekeep, passing one smuggler who ran off.

Unfortunately, now I’m wanted so I’ll need to lay low & see what happens in the next few days. I’ll lead my willing followers south to Amn where we’ll be safe from the Flaming Fists until the dust settles. I’ll make camp near that carnival in Nashkel.

Treasure of Note: Purse = 3051 GPs; Cloak of Protection +2 (Me), Rings of Free Action & Fire Resistance, Helm of Defense, Mace +1 (Me); Koveras’ Ring of Protection +1, Short Sword +1 (purchased) (Imoen); Girdle of Bluntness (Minsc); Plenty of very useful  Scrolls (mage & cleric) & potions

Current Disposition: Resting near a camp fire @ the carnival

Next Steps:  Return to the Valley I came out of when we came up from the Nashkel Mines;  I will remain in the south for a while until I can figure out what to do about this frame up; when this is said & done I intend to visit Durlag’s Tower

Not sure if any of you folks have come across the Charming Rogue class.

I'm using it for Imoen & it keeps me from having to dual her to Mage. I like this.

I love that kit also. Moreover, it makes dual to mage kinda not needed, and it fits her.

So I've restarted yet again as my Archer met his demise. I tried Skald again for a short bit, but it still feels too recent since I completed a reloaded run with a Skald, so that was tossed out. In the end, I decided to go with:

Jun, Half-elven Totemic Druid. Starting stats of 11/18/16/10/18/15.

Game starts as normal with the kiting of Shoal, saving Melicamp (though the game bugged here and he lived... but Melicamp stayed as a chicken for some reason. I still got the 2k exp and rep point though, so nothing beyond graphics messed up there,) before I swapped it up by killing Bassilus before completing numerous tasks in Beregost: most Cleric spells are only dangerous if they land on a humanoid, which Spirit Snakes are most definitely not. Level 4 after all this. Basilisk, Ankheg hunting, and returning a bowl to Tenya gives me another 3 levels, level 4 slots, and the Returning Frost Dart.

North to the inn, south to Nashkel where Mulahey stands no chance vs 2 Spirit animals and a Nymph for good measure. We let Tranzig live after burning through the Amazons. The Bandit Camp took two rests - the archers still picked through Jun's summons as though they didn't exist. The leaders are lured outside to be met with two Nymphs, a Wolf and a Snake while Jun sniped them down with Call Lightning. I collect the CON tome at this point, realizing that Jun has to sacrifice that point back in the Hell trials if he ever gets that far. Relair's mistake is also very useful at this point, since it's a free 18/00 strength for carrying things around.

A spider kill heading through Cloakwood grants me level 9, and the slot is spent on Pixie Dust for now. Genthore and co. use all their spells on my summons, and I'm honestly a little bit surprised that Fear managed to get through to them. They didn't have enough damage for the kill though, and after Jun sits back and waits out the duration on his summons, the combination of Wolf and Snake proves enough to kill the rest of them. I attempt to use Farsight and summons to deal with Havasham, but clicked the wrong spot and actually had to fight her. No matter: Snake poison is murderous for mages of this level, and she's soon killed. If only she stayed that way in BG2.

Davaeorn IS located by Farsight, and I send my mobs after him: he wasted all his spells against them, admittedly wiping them out, but had nothing left besides his quarterstaff to deal with my last Animal Summoning I and a flurry of frozen darts. Made silly mistakes at this point and forgot to take the key, making me waste 10 minutes or so trying to avoid mobs getting back down there, but no biggie.

Currently sitting in Baldur's Gate, trying to finesse the first Wisdom tome from a certain temple.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 55 - (update 1)

Johnnie, human abjurer (Grond0) & Cower, elf thief (Gate70)

With the end of MP54 at the start of our session today there was plenty of time to generate a new random pair and make some decent progress.

After leaving Candlekeep the dialogue for Imoen didn't work properly and she wouldn't even join the party long enough to donate her possessions.  However, that was no great loss and the trio (including familiar) were soon celebrating their first level courtesy of Shoal failing to catch the quasit leading her a merry dance.

A number of early encounters were made easy by Johnnie's use of sleep, e.g. when saving Arabelle from some hungry xvarts.  Resting around that time provided Johnnie with a LMD (I had intended to get a CLW, but had forgotten how low reputation starts for someone chaotic evil).  The familiar only has 12 HPs and thus is a sucker for any kobold with a bow.  That meant it stayed safely in the back pack most of the time, but was let out for a while to run Meilum round while he was shot.

Once Johnnie was able to learn invisibility he got the appropriate scroll from High Hedge immediately.  That made some more encounters, such as Landrin's spiders, easy.  Moving on to something more challenging the duo travelled to the basilisk area.  The basilisks were shot under the protection of Johnnie's PfP spells before Cower tried out his stealth shots on Mutamin.  Johnnie failed to learn the stinking cloud scroll he dropped, so Korax was recruited to have a go at Kirian's party.  He performed very well - successfully paralysing Kirian, Baerin and Peter, while Johnnie sent Lindin running with a horror spell (Korax got him as well when we eventually tracked him down)

On the way to the FAI the belt ogre fell asleep.  On arrival there Joia and Landrin received good news, while Tarnesh received a fatal backstab from Cower.

The final action of the session saw the duo stealth through the Nashkel mine.  Mulahey was backstabbed and was unable to respond properly before Cower hid again for another backstab.

Stats:

Johnnie, abjurer 5, 28 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar), 28 kills

Cower, thief 6, 44 HPs, 49 kills, 0 deaths

Is there any reason for the 18 CON for Johnnie instead of the standard 16 so you could get an 18 in WIS after tomes? Are you planning to dual to Fighter at some point or something?

Grimwald, what kit pack are you using, and what exactly does Stavemaster do? I'm guessing bonuses wielding quarterstaffs, but any important restrictions or bonuses otherwise? Best of luck to the both of you with your endeavors.

Jun, TN Male Half-elf Totemic Druid, second and final update.

Life is easy for Jun in Baldur's gate. He stole the DEX tome, bothered a pair of assassins for the ability to buy the WIS tome for 500 gold before killing Talos' priestess, Fireball'd a crazy ogre and a few carrion crawlers, set a lion on a couple doppelgängers, and finally killed Lars the ogre and the Marek before investigating the Iron Throne invisibly. (Did you know that you can do this out of order? I accidentally scouted the top floor invisibly before reporting to the Duke to receive the order to investigate... Two talks later, and he accepts my evidence. Go figure.)

A potion of Fortitude negates the health issues the Violet potion gives in Candlekeep, netting Jun both the WIS and STR tomes; the latter is just for carrying capacity. I leave the Darts of Stunning band alone, despite wanting to take revenge for my last Totemic druid. Three rests outside Candlekeep nets the first DuHM; two more in Baldur's gate nets Jun the second. I actually had issues against Slythe, since I didn't want to use any potions at that point, a slight mistake as I can't kite someone running at his absurd, illegal speed in BGEE. But he dies to a Wand of the Heavens charge, fortunately leaving the invitation uncharred and not even slightly singed.

The Palace fight is the fastest I've ever done; three nymphs, a Lion, and a Bear (for the first time) absolutely murder all the Greater Doppels before either Belt or Liia die. Pixie dust through the under city, rest once to exchange Pixie dust for Iron skins, and fight the final battle; two of them are lured out into the same death-trap of 5 summons as before, and the mage and Tazok are slaughtered beneath a Spirit Snake. The summons don't stand a change vs Sarevok, though, so I'm forced to just throw darts around while running around at triple speed, and Sarevok falls. We report back to Duke Eltan and head to Athkatla.

Final stats: Jun, level 10 Totemic Druid, 12/19/17/10/20/15, 67 HP.

Well done with Jun Epsil0.

There are two reasons for the high constitution.  The first is that familiars in BGEE are extremely vulnerable.  Johnnie's won't be used much, but if it were to die the higher constitution offers HP protection.  The second is to allow the Claw of Kazgaroth to be worn without a HP penalty (that gives -2 to constitution when equipped).  In the standard game there are 3 wisdom tomes so he can still reach 18 using those).

I think that's his name actually, he's a non-kitted fighter. Grats on BG1.
