West of the Archaeological Site is a place called Fisherman’s Lake known to me only from maps I’ve seen in the library. As my plan is to work east to west & west to east, generally moving north back toward the jurisdiction of the FF when I will be ready to face my accusers w/the truth. On the way back that way, we battles four Ogres w/Morning Stars that attacked us in a valley.

Fisherman’s Lake had quite a few ‘boogers’ for us to deal w/but none of note really, same old, same old for the most part. Early on the rounded a small, rocky hill & stumbled on three ghouls who I still hold a healthy respect for w/their ability to as I do their more powerful cousins, Ghasts. I has us mowing them down when two Cave Bears attacked & added excitement to the melee.

I had the honor, all of us did, to meet & fight alongside Drizzt Do’Urden against 12 Gnolls. We were just conducting a reconnaissance around the lake when we first saw a couple of Gnolls & then more before seeing the dark skinned, white haired, Drizzt who asked for hour aid. We quickly helped him defeat them, so watching him use his dual-Scimitar’s, I’m not sure he needed us but it was an honor. We parted as he said he was off to Waterdeep, I believe.

Aside from that our victories in battle were against four Half-Ogres w/Bastard Swords, four Flinds w/2 Handed-Swords, three Ogres w/Morning Stars, four Gnolls w/Halberd’s, six skeletons w/Warhammers & Bucklers, two wolves & six Wild Dogs.

Key Event(s):  Any time I get to test my meddle against another noble knight in battle I find it exhilarating. It’s also exciting when my followers are challenged as well.  Near Fisherman’s Lake, a bandit trio, led by an armored bandit (certainly not a noble knight), supported by a mage & a Chill Hobgoblin, tried to extort gold from us, Refusing, they attacked & the battle was joined. I should have ordered everyone on the team to attack as opportunity presented itself, but I elected to direct attacks on one enemy @ a time, holding off on using our spells & instead having them use their ranged weapons. We knocked out the armored figure w/ease, moved on to the mage who never got a spell off & the finished off the Chill.

Russell VI the level 2 solo Undead Hunter entering trilogy no-reload challenge...

As many of you know, I love the paladin class. So I got the "paladin" bug at the moment. However, I already have had a trilogy success with a 5 paladin + cleric/thief party. So the twist is for this run, all story encounters (Sarevok, Irenicus, Melissan, etc.) will be Russell VI only.

He's picked up a ring on a rock, ring in the ground (to sell), which was used to get full plate. He's currently on the road to Nashkel from Beregost.

Hello,

I actually started another no-reload run almost 2 months ago, stopped after entering Baldur's Gate and was to lazy to post about it, but since I'm planning to continue the run soon, I'll try to remember how some of it went and show you a short selection of the many screenshots I took. I am playing on core rules, with BGT installed.

The character I am entering the challenge with is Lilah, a neutral evil half-elven mage/thief. Here are her stats. She can use shortbows and longswords and has recently gained * in single weapon style. Her party consists of Viconia, Kagain, Shar-Teel, Edwin and Montaron. She has completed basically anything non-TotSC related outside of Baldur's Gate and obtained only evil bhaalspawn powers (killing innocent villagers if neccessary).

Lilah started by seeking out her future companions and doing some minor quests. With the party assembled, she secured Edwin's loyalty by entering the gnoll fortress, also gaining some very important gauntlets for Kagain. Soon, the gnoll chieftain was slain and Dynaheir killed.

After some more questing, Edwin learned sleep and some ankhegs provided easy experience. Bassilus was next.

I made some mistakes at Gullykin, using a wand of frost when I shouldn't have and getting my party confused (though the spell seemed to be uninterruptable), leaving Montaron dead and everyone wounded - but Lilah survived, which is all that matters.

Mulahey was easy prey for the evil party, and Viconia's skeletons took care of some sirens, while Edwin's magic was enough to defeat the doomsayer.

The fighters cleared the basilisk area via protection from petrification, horror helped with Tazok's tent, Centeol died to fireballs. I even found myself using the actual spell fireball instead of the usual potions with Edwin sometimes.

The bounty hunters in front of the iron mine were dealt with via horror and arrows. Hareishan, who almost ended my previous run, was subjected to a new strategy this time:

After Lilah disarmed the traps, a hidden Montaron used a fireball potion to kill some of the mercenaries and gain Hareishan's attention. With the mage following him, he quickly used another potion before she could cast a spell, killing her and the remaining troops, with Edwin ready to fireball again if necessary.

Davaeorn was simply attacked by skeletons and eventually slain before harming any of the party members.

By the way, to avoid any confusion: Kagain is using Drizzt's scimitar +3, stolen by Montaron while the drow fought the gnolls.

As I said, Lilah has just entered Baldur's Gate. She is now a level 5/6 mage/thief and has 40 hit points thanks to her familiar.

It occurred to us, as we were sharing a moment of relaxation over mead & ale @ the Nashkel Inn, that our adventures in the north of Amn around Nashkel has rid the folks here of many potential monsters & threats in this area.  We surmise that is one of the reasons I am treated like a hero, all of us really, wherever we go…even in Beregost outside of Amn’s political boundary. My next two steps are to visit the areas around the North Nashkel Road & over to the Lonely Peaks before turning north out of Amn to the Firewine Bridge.

Once we reached the North Nashkel Road, we reconnoitered first west of the road. Not long after we arrived we fell into battle w/six Hobgoblins from the Ripper Tribe who we defeated w/ease. Ripper’s wear hides dyed in sky blue & their standard, which always resides w/the tribal chief, is known to be the same color w/a Hobgoblin standing on the neck of an Elf ‘ripping’ the elf’s arm out of the socket. A little farther north, we encountered six more Hobgoblins, for the Chill w/their lime green hides. We were on a cliff above them, so Dynahier dropped a Fireball on them incinerating five of them & we killed the other easily.

Key Event(s): We hadn’t moved on 20 minutes before we ran into a pair of Vampiric Wolves. My ranged companions pulled out their enchanted arrows +1 and sling stones +1 while Minsc & I waded in on them & we cut them down easily. Any time we battle Vampiric Wolves & live, I consider it key, even if the battle was well fought & we beat them quickly.

edecac27e3e3a20e098fd4dab2f81d.jpg
VAMPIRIC WOLVES NORTH OF NASHKEL

Turning back to the southeast part of the North Nashkel Road area, we ran into three more Hobgoblins from the Ripper Tribe & simultaneously were flanked by a third group of Hobgoblins tribe, six of them, from the Leg Breaker Tribe in their identifying rust colored hide. Jaheira & Imoen both took arrows tipped w/poison but we cut them down easily once we got in position. At first we were cut off & had to get around a large hill to get at them. Other than that we destroyed 12 Kobolds & two female Half-Ogres who we trying to eat a Gnome but decided to make us the main course.

Treasure of Note: (Purse = 9.965 gold: bought three Potions of Magic Blocking, one each Scrolls of Protection from Undead & Magic); none of note.

Current Disposition: Unloading supplies & resting in Nashkel.

Russell VI the level 5 Solo Undead Hunter - Update 2

Russell VI has made good progress so far, no near deaths or anything like that. He's primarily get upgrades at the moment:

* Battled his way to the CHA tome

* Taught Krumm a lesson Caldo they won't soon forget.

* Took the belt of piercing from the belt fetish ogre

* Picked up the fire resistance ring in Samuel's area, as well as returning Samua to the FAI

* Bought a large shield +1 and axe +1 (by the way, he has these skills: ** axes, ** sling, * long bow)

* With Kivan's help, obtained the helmet of defense - Kivan was killed by Shoal, poor guy. And then Shoal failed to resurrect him to boot (because he was removed from party to prevent Kivan from taking any of my experience)

Next session will deal with Karlat and Neira, get the gauntlets from Melium, and then work on the main quest.

Russell VI the level 6 Solo Undead Hunter - Update 3

As promised in the previous post, Russell VI had a duel with Melium. It was a straight up duel man-to-man, sword-to-sword. The only buff was protection from evil. With Russell VI's -10 to slashing, Melium failed to land even a single hit before his death. The bracers are a great upgrade.

Time to get this story going. First a duel with Karlat - he actually got a hit in, and it was a fairly long battle, but Russell VI won the fight and ended the threat from this assassin.

Yet another assassin encountered in the Nashkel Inn - Russell VI could see they looked like a cleric, and did a greenstone amulet charge. There's no way he could lose, even confused by rigid thinking, BUT rigid thinking may slaughter civilians which will make Russell VI a fallen paladin - just too big a risk, thus the buff. As predicted, Neria fell easily.

There were a large mass of wolves, including the undead variety in the Beregost Temple area - Russell VI slaughtered them fairly easily.

The only armor slot that is empty now is boots - Russell VI has a feeling working on the Nashkel Mines problem might net him some, so he talks to the Mine Foreman and ventures into this pit of darkness.

EDIT: Russell is getting decent HP rolls, he's at 67 right now, which is 17 above average. With any luck he can keep it up. Incidentally Melicamp failed to change to human form.

EDIT2: I forgot I also dueled Greywolf. I knew he was a level 7 fighter, and at the time I was only level 4, so I used a haste potion and hill giant potion - this did the job nicely. His weapon was just sold since Russell VI has no use for it.

As planned, next we were off to the Lonely Peaks which were the northernmost edge of Amn. Right off we got a taste of what was to come throughout the LPs. We’d just gotten started when two Ogre Mages w/Bastard Swords attacked us. We beat’em down good w/o anyone taking spell damage or a swipe from a Bastard Sword. We all have a healthy respect for Ogre Mages. The reason I said we got a taste of things to come was because the Peaks were swarming with Ogres of every kind. Over the next few hours we fought & defeated two trios of Ogrillons & three Ogres w/Morning Stars.

It was time for a rest but it wasn’t long before we were ambushed by seven Half-Ogres w/Bastard Swords that we had a little trouble w/but got organized in time to defeat them. The following AM we had a timely arrival that allowed us to kill six Xvarts w/Short Swords that were attacking a farmer’s cow. He was greatly relieved & appreciative. The rest of the day consisted of a quick battle w/six Kobolds armed w/Shorts Swords before we ran into a clan of four Half-Ogres who wanted our iron…& our lives. We easily defeated them and, later, two pairs of wolves & then, three more Ogres before we began to wrap up our adventure here.

Key Event(s): Our last confrontation in the Lonely Peaks was the toughest. We came upon three armored bandits, two in Splint Mail & two w/Longbows & enchanted arrows in their quiver. We were moving away from them when we crossed them so we had to wheel around 90’. Imoen was closest to one of the Longbow wielding bandits & hammered him w/one of her innate Magic Missiles before taking an arrow. I immediately hollered for her to retreat out of range even as she was fumbling for a PoH. In the meantime, Jaheira blasted the leader w/her innate Call Lightning while Dynahier launched her Minor Sequencer w/back to back Magic Missiles on the other bowman. Meanwhile, Khalid was popping off arrows @ targets of opportunity until the bowman next to Imoen hit her again & still she couldn’t get the PoH out of her quick item pouch. At that point, the other two bandits were dead & I ordered everyone to turn on the last bandit & Khalid hit him square in the temple killing him & saving Imoen.

DEFEATING ARMORED BANDITS IN THE LONELY PEAKS

On the way back to Nashkel we went via the carnival & defeated six Kobolds that had moved back into that area. Then we headed to town.

Treasure of Note: (Purse = 11,583 gold);

Current Disposition: Having a rest @ the Nashkel Inn after selling our booty

Next Steps: I’m leading us to the Firewine Bridge, just north of Amnish territory

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-Player No-Reload

Protagonist - Tcos (Dogdancing), gnomish fighter/thief

Companion - Zaxxon (Corey_Russell), gnomish fighter/illusionist

The last we heard the duo ended their session deep into Ulcaster School dungeon. After reloading, we quickly realized our blunder - ALL the basic mobs respawned! We only had 3 blue potions between us and we used them all and were hurt by the time we fought our way out of there.

We sold our stuff, restocked blue potions, and went Ankheg hunting. Tcos was surprised how hard she was being hit, despite her -6 AC. But she was able to keep herself together. We slaughtered the fisherman, returning the bowl to the rightful owner. That ranger that keeps kill stealing our ankegs really bothered Tcos, so Tcos slaughtered the ranger - 6 reputation. We had to sell again, and restocked blue potions in Ulgoth's Beard.

Next we cleared out the Ankheg Nest. This went pretty cleanly, however on the very last Ankheg, it got two quick hits in and now Tcos ran for her life. Zaxxon got close and did a aganazer scorcher and moved around to kill it quick - Tcos lives - good. We had to sell once more and raised our blemished reputation by giving 100 gold to Farmer Brun. Dogdancing was quite mad, she thought Brun stole the gold and asked to kill him - Corey_Russell put his foot down, No! We did rob Farmer Brun's house though...

We were finally able to afford the Greenstone Amulet, so we got that. We headed to Naskhel Mines, now that we can be reasonably certain we will prevail against Mulahey. Our saves vs. spells at the moment is 4. Dogdancing got caught up with real life, so we ended our session here.

Bgee run update S1.5,

Hear text as mp3,

A brave new beginning; by Sarah,

I’m told by people in the know that becoming a Mage takes months, sometimes years of arduous study or irrelevant tasks… well Bugger that, and it’s off to Durlag's Tower we go!

s-baldr024.jpgs-baldr025.jpg

I asked most of the group to step out and watch as Puk tagged a battle horror then got confused * and killed before I could help… two shots & three shots of my new frost wand is all the two horrors could withstand and I regrouped then trekked back to resurrect Puk.

s-baldr027.jpgs-baldr029.jpg

We returned to the third floor and Imoen disarmed the traps for a wisdom tome, then the nasty stun trap on the second floor and finally the fireball trap on the roof before following me into her own Mage apprenticeship.

s-baldr031.jpg

Ajantis successfully battled the gangers with his -6 armour after I put protection from gaze on him and we scored a nice sword for Jaheira… we found a wand of lightning that Garrick liked, sold the junk and purchased a wand of fireball for Imoen to use and Puk got the wisdom point from the book so all in all it was worth our time.

s-baldr033.jpgs-baldr034.jpg

The mine proved to be easy with fireballs and Puk stopped an enemy Cleric with his ‘Doom’ | ‘Command’ combo… we travelled to Beregost to kill a Mage without effort and even resisted the urge to take a nice cloak from a fat git because that would be morally wrong of me.

*bgee has issues with script that keeps overriding my control script for the default which sends the character into melee… this is very annoying, especially with Imoen who has only her fists.

Russell VI the level 8 Solo Undead Hunter - Update 4

Russell VI continues to make rapid progress. I am really pleased with his HP progression this run - he sits at 100 HP even, well above average.

Mulahey and his minions were dealt with - with greenstone amulet, Russell VI didn't worry about what Mulahey could do, which ended up being nothing. What was nice was Mulahey cast entangle, entrapping his own minions! Thus Russell VI used his trusty sling to pick them off.

In the Valley of the Tombs, some Amazon assassins were encountered - while protected with greenstone amulet, necklace of missiles sorted out these baddies nicely. Using a potion of magic blocking from the loot, then Narcillus and his jellies were also dealt with once and for all. An undead scroll was used to battle and loot in the tombs. Not strictly necessary for an Undead Hunter, but really wasn't going to do anything else with the scroll.

Greenstone amulet saw some more use, beating up sirenes on the Coast. Some golems battled as well. One golem in particular bashed Russell VI hard - he had to run and heal, before re-engaging and finishing it off. Pesky things.

The amulet saw even more use - this time used to battle Kirian's party - while protected by the amulet, necklace of missiles was spammed until there was on the warrior left - Russell VI's trusty axe +1 finished this enemy off. Due to inventory issues, Russell VI sold at the carnival, obtained the green scroll for petrification and returned to clear out the basilisks in the area. Mutamutin hit Russell VI, very, very hard - good thing Russell VI used a regen potion as well as blue potions to keep his health up.

Russell VI was close to his last level. He accessed his "bank" and obtained some potions, went to Durlag's Tower (surface), and battled some battle horrors. Then battling some dopplegangers got Russell VI his last level of the game.

Russell VI feels experienced enough to go after Gorion's killer - thus Bandit Camp will be searched for and investigated next.

Thanks! Now that I am max level, I can ignore most encounters and concentrate on the main story line and maybe a few upgrades, so things should start speeding up for my run.

That's how I almost always proceed in my solo runs. Could be an interesting challenge for me to somehow limit the amount of XP with which each boss fight must be undertaken...
I liked your choice for Slings, rather unconventional pick.

My first choice was throwing axes, but I was unable to get 18/00 STR and not suffer badly in other areas (After long time rolling, settled for the roll of 93). Thus was basically too weak to practically use them. Therefore sling allowed me to range without having to drop my shield. Longbow is for arrows of detonation as well as arrows of dispelling, quite useful in the chapter 5-7 and beyond encounters. Longbow of Marksmanship will be excellent weapon against Sarevok (better than my sling +1) if I am unable to melee him.

Lilah, neutral evil half-elven mage/thief, update 2

I started doing minor quests and gaining items in Baldur's Gate - Lilah's latest exploits include but are not limited to:

- Killing the ogre mage in the sewers

- Getting the gauntlets of ogre power for Viconia

- Burning the ogre mage bounty hunters away with multiple fireballs

- Taking care of Marek

- Finding another ring of wizardry (I didn't want to rest to get Viconia's remove fear spell back, but didn't suffer any serious consequences)

- Obtaining the helm of glory

Lilah also finished all the thieves guild quests, killed a basilisk, returned some gauntlets and the book of curses, killed a cat (the first time I forced myself to do this, still felt terrible), delivered a book, found a boy for his mother, took care of Arkion and Nemphre, delivered Nestor's dagger and some other items to various people, obtained the sea charts after defeating Larze and propably did some other minor stuff I can't remember right now.

As you can imagine, this party is quite effective - everyone is really good at their job, especially Edwin.

@Corey, yes, the good thing in a way with Paladins and Rangers is that you can't grandmaster, so you can easily pick for example two ranged weapons. I've done the same before with previous Wizard Slayers, but with my current one I started investing pips in Flails already in BG1 to reach grandmastery asap in BG2. Axes should still do good damage with a STR score of 18/93 no? Or was inventory management /weight allowance your reason to go with slings?
@Enuhal, poor cat, but good progress anyway!

Well eventually will have 19 STR (Candlekeep Crypt tome) - note my STR is only 18/50 right now -  axes help with troll killing, mage disruption, and allows Azuredge - effective against many enemies - in my install can only auto-kill vampires but that's still pretty helpful. And yes, the weight allowance is why I went with slings. I have full plate/heavy shield +1, heavy stuff. In my experience, slings have been effective against dragons, including against ToB dragons.

Russell VI the level 8 solo Undead Hunter - Update 5

Russell VI joined the Bandit Camp. He used two potions of magic blocking to clear out Tazok's Tent. He got the evidence he needed, then made a bee-line for Drassus and pals. He used a lot more buffs for this fight, high lightning/fire resist, shield amulet, protection from evil, greenstone amulet, and invulnerability potion. His strategy was simple - spam necklace of missiles until  mages are dead, then melee the melee enemies - this worked great.

While buffs were running he tripped the lightning trap and battled Heirashan. He had to return to civilization as he was out of blue potions - he also got some potions to deal with Davaeorn/Battle Horrors. Via buffs, Russell VI was made immune to lightning and fire - he lured the battle horrors one at a time, running and firing necklace of missiles, two times for each one, then melee. This worked great. Then chasing down Davaeorn and eventually striking him down.

Once in the City of Badur's Gate, Russell VI also cleared out the Ogre Mage and his pets in the sewers and also the dopplegangers at the Seven Suns. Russell VI reported to Scar and got the quest to investigate the Iron Throne HQ.

Next session, will get the few upgrades needed, then proceed to main quest.

Russell VI the level 8 solo Undead Hunter - FINAL Update!

Russell VI took on the 5th floor of the Iron Throne using arrows of detonation, protected by a protection from magic scroll - this worked nicely.

Russell VI also took on the Mountain Maulers, mainly to get the +2 axe. This was an extremely bloody battle, with not only the Mountain Maulers dying, but their summons, the Innkeep, and the entire Gorpel Hind Band.

Candlekeep Crypts was looted then invis potion to get the heck out of there. Protection from poison used against the phase spiders (I don't trust paladin saves vs. poison).

Slythe was killed quick - Russell VI had -13 to piercing, so that may have helped as well.

However, Russell VI came undone at the Duchal Palace. The dukes died EXTREMELY quick - only a single doppleganger was killed before the dukes fell. Just not enough dps.

I have a starting save, so will start again. This time will do ** two weapon style, that might give Russell VI the dps he needs...he will just use the bow non-proficient, and then sling on Sarevok. Back to Candlekeep...

@Corey

Well, at least he didn't "die". What I found very helpful against dopes is having a high strenght, thus I usually buy 24 strenght potion just before doing this. A lucky critical may kill one of them instantly.
