After a long break, Mullir's Travels continue.

The party heads to the bandit camp, where we stealthily eliminate the bandits in small groups. As we approach the centre, Mullir scouts ahead cautiously. A large number of bandits and Taugosz call for the use of Sleep and Mirror Image spells. Unfortunately, these didn't prove too effective, so it was back to picking them off one by one with ranged arrows, whilst Jaheira's Entangle kept Taugosz out of the battle. Mullir delivered a 60-damage backstab to him, but the monstrous fellow kept on going! The Entangle wore off and we he chased us around the tents before we finally brought him down with the aid of a Magic Missile spell from Khalid.

Battered, shaken and injured, I realised we hadn't refreshed all our spells before setting off, so we headed back to the FAI to rest up. Taugosz had a very nice flail on him (which I don't remember from last time, so maybe it's from the Vault and not DH) but non of my guys are flail users so we'll just keep hold of it for now.

Quick Note on Arlene's Game:

Arlene has solved the mystery of the Nashkel Mines along with Imoen, Minsc, Dynaheir, Branwen, and Kivan. The innocent did not fare well in the campaign: Xan and half of Nashkel were torched by item created Fireballs in the fights with Mulahey and Nimbul.

The party has implored Arlene to take it easy with the bombs. She has acknowledged them, but Imoen and Dynaheir aren't convinced that she takes the problem seriously.

Arlene plans to complete some minor quests in the hope of collecting gold, potions, and *whisper* more bombs. Tazok must wait.

Arlene in Nashkel

Arlene's early battles were basically all the same. Arlene ran around casting command while the party beat up on unconscious enemies.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Silke Dire Charmed Minsc. Arlene let him sleep it off.

Posted Image

The Wand of Sleep made the "Yipping Demons" easier to deal with.

Posted Image

Mulahey's minions got burnt.

Posted Image

Mulahey got Held.

Posted Image

Nimbul tried to overrun Arlene with Monsters. Arlene vanished.

Posted Image

Imoen put the critters to sleep.

Posted Image

Minsc blew them up.

Posted Image

Arlene returned the favor by Holding Nimbul still.

Justra question: If I do this as a solo paladin, bg 1 thru ToB, will I become a legend? 'Cause I'm thinkingh of giving it a try... <_<

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who can no-reload BG1 to ToB at all is something of a legend, especially if they do it solo. :-)

Quick Note on Arlene's Game:

Earlier, I said that over-confidence is the most dangerous enemy my characters face. There is another arch-villain though: boredom.

I had hoped my Gnomish C/T would force me out of my comfort zone and lead to a stimulating game. She might solo, but not in a party it seems. And while she is alive and well, I am starting to entertain ideas for an alternate play-through.

I'll let you know if and when I decide. I'm also open to suggestions.

Best,

A.

I'm thinking of doing it solo someday, perhaps not with a paladin, but... still...

The Trilogy No-Reload is indeed a formidible challenge. A few months ago Incantatar, Serg Blackstrider, and myself went through all the threads and identified the successes. We were surpirsed by how few had made it through the Trilogy. Bear in mind that the challenge has been running for ~5 years extending back to the old Bioware Forums (The BGII No Reload Challenge was started by Retet, the Trilogy was started later by myself).

The list of Trilogy No-Reloaders appears below.

NW: The list does not include the last few months. I'm not sure if anyone has completed successfully recently. PM me if you have recently completed the challenge.

Wow. I thought it would have been more... but then, playing the whole trilogy through is no mean feat anyway. It's long enough that I guess it's not hard for an unlikely slip-up to happen eventually.

Of course -as Frabjous used to say- there are probably others who have completed the Trilogy No Reload but haven't found their way to these boards.

Nonetheless, it is striking. There have been a lot of BG No-Reloads, and a lot of BGII No Reloads. There aren't many that have completed both legs in a single run though. It's a test of endurance and concentration evidently.

Best,

A.

I also completed a no-reload trilogy run. (Can't be bothered to find the thread, but it was on the old forums.)

This was with a un-capped EXP F/M/T, though, so it might not really count.

EDIT: Even though this was an "easy" character, it did take serious concentration and effort. The worst thing is getting bored and slipping up. You simply cannot afford to take very many 1% risks. It will kill you eventually.

EDIT#2: [...] un-capped solo F/M/T [...]

Understood. And Congrats!

The original rules didn't explicitly mention experience caps. Under "Guidelines" it mentioned that players could take advantage of "ToB functionality" including the "Extended XP Cap"- implying a cap should be in place. IIRC, there was also a discussion of caps in Retet's original thread and the consensus was that they should be kept in place to maintain balance between Multi and Single/Dual classes.

This implied rule was relaxed in Saros's cases since he was using IA but -as far as I know- was followed by others.

Nonetheless, I do think your accomplishment is worthy of recogntion. To my mind, the most sensible thing would be to include your character on the list and then put EXP Cap Remover in the Notable Mods field. Does that make sense to you as well? If so, PM me the rest of the info for your run so we can add him or her on.

Cheers,

A.

In No Reload thread 21 you had a F/M/T solo (Eris) who got killed by Mellissan afair. You had another F/M/T solo who got through?

Hello everyone,

After some time, I have started another no reload attempt.
This time, I rolled elven diviner.
i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Moruvyn/Baldr000.jpg
I have BG+TotSC with the latest patch instaled, difficulty is set on Insane. This will be solo attempt, since diviners are so overpowered in this game :)
So, elven diviner Moruvyn finished all errands in Candlekeep, and he is ready to leave his home with Gorion.i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Moruvyn/Baldr007.jpg

Almost. I went back and found the log amongs my files, and the brief summary is: She was in an almost hopeless situation (very few spells left, etc. etc.) due to carelessness (lack of Spell Shield buff), but Mel was also bugged (wouldn't "die" because of the regen + slow bug). Because the hopeless situation ensued before Melissan got bugged I decided to give the victory to Mel even though I could technically have restarted the throne battle because of the "bug rule".

You had another F/M/T solo who got through?

Yes. Rashad.

There's a couple of posts here: http://forums.biowar...forum=18&sp=150
and the winner post is here: http://forums.biowar...forum=18&sp=165

(Hopefully those links will work.)

Intelligence 10? Strength 5? Diviner, solo, vanilla.... That's hilarious! Good luck, you need it. I'd love to solo no-reload vanilla, but it's so buggy, half the spell descriptions are false.

I had another successful run through TUTU with a conjurer (my 2nd think, i love the class) but it was with a party and a breeze even with SCS AI, i don't feel the need to post here a full description. I removed XP-cap, which i thought was in order for my first time doing all the add-on stuff. But Aec-Letec and the wolves were much easier than i thought. If you played Improved Anvil somewhere in the past, no fight can shock you.

Back to BG1. Solo w/ buggy engine or SCS is brutal even in BG1.

I was killed more than once by bandits, ghasts, traps, Devaeorn, sirines, hamadryad and a basilisk encounter with my solo mages. As i write this, i think we should make a list of the things that killed the most no-reload attempts. (The most hilarious run through of mine ended with Shank killing me.)

If my Diviner survives first few levels, he may actually become quite powerful. Perhaps not as powerful as your conjurer, but (hopefully) quite capable to deal with anything this game throws at him.

Bandits, especially the ones who waylay you en route (and kobolds with bows, too) are probably the worst. At low levels, there's often nothing you can do since you can't avoid a random encounter like that. Even if you have Sleep it's probably touch-and-go. One of my two no-reload deaths was to them, the other was to DH assassins, if I remember.

Steb, NE male dwarf fighter/thief. Travelling with Kagain, Shar Teel, Montaron, Xzar and Edwin.

Kagain and Shar Teel upgrade to metal armour before we continue. Shoal the nereid refuses to talk to us (reputation maybe) so we buy back Melicamp and fail to restore him. Then we head towards Durlags Tower but a battle horror swats Xzar (600gp); run away.

Molkar and his gang are overcome by stinking clouds, Meilum out-meleed, Tarnesh drained, Landrin helped, Bjornin's fortified half-ogres pummelled, Drienne's cat dried out, a lighthouse cleared of worgs, Bentha saved from Zordral, Jared saved from a bear and Samuel taken to safety. Kagain can finally talk to Shoal, allowing us to kill Droth the ogre mage and grab a helmet (defence).

Kagain gulps a potion of clarity, then we eliminate Sil and five other sirines. I gulp a potion (heroism?) and we melee two flesh golems before looting Black Alaric's treasure. 100gp is a small price to pay for my health.
Posted Image

Shar Teel, Montaron and I get a kicking from a battle horror before Xzar gets his revenge. We rest and he repeats the trick against a second horror as Kagain and I feel the pain.

Monty has improved his traps & lock skills, but needs more practice. His first lesson involves a lightning bolt (800gp), his second when he can't deal with a simple chromatic orb trap. Kagain checks the trap twice before Xzar protects him from petrification. Kagain turns to step outside and is stunned by a third orb. We wait, and wait, and wait.

Eventually he steps outside to battle a basilisk and I follow. I deal with a group of gnolls while he picks on a greater basilisk. He kills one and then a second before I reach him. Together we pound a third greater basilisk and find a trapped container. I move away and Kagain greedily grabs the loot, only for a fireball to fry him. Maybe next time he'll remember to ask for the helm of defence and ring of fire protection. Oh well.

Monty resists a final lesson when grabbing a tome (wisdom) and shakily asks if we can leave. Another temple visit (800gp) gets Kagain restored and I pay an extra 100gp to get the tome identified. It proved to be a good read.
Posted Image

Edwina chalks up another kill.
Posted Image

Somebody is getting aggressive without even talking to us.
Posted Image

After refusing to say who we are the battle commences.
Posted Image

Nimbul is out-gunned.

Steb, NE male dwarf fighter/thief. Travelling with Kagain, Shar Teel, Montaron, Xzar and Edwin(a).

After chunking Tranzig I steal Algernon's cloak and head for Larswood to eliminate Teven. Spiders injure Kagain and poison me, meaning Shar Teel has to front up to Raiken until a stinking cloud debilitates his bandits.

The bandit camp is next. Ardenor Crush is tackled while his companions sleep, then a group of five bandits pincushion us. When they are dead we rest before encountering Taugosz Khosann. I run away once and try to join in again but Edwina has other ideas. (bit close here, 2hp left)
Posted Image

We rest and protect ourselves from fear before entering the bandit HQ. I hold off Raemon and Britik while Kagain closes in on Hakt. Edwina and Xzar use magic against Venkt while Shar Teel and Montaron disrupt his spells.
Posted Image

Venkt has no defence and once he is dead Britik has to deal with arrows, fails to save against sleep and dies. Raemon fancies his chances but my first attack takes him from full health to deceased (rare for me to see/notice a named character go in one strike, could be the 2 handed weapon helping).
Posted Image

Hakt saves against a third sleep spell, only to be added to my chunklist.
Posted Image

Xzar manages to make an ankheg sleepy as we head for the city gates. He is twice as successful on his next attempt.
Posted Image

As we reach the outskirts I realise I'm ahead of myself and need to go to Cloakwood instead. In preparation I buy Kagain a magical axe and we set off into the fading light.

Steb, F4T5. 178 kills, greater basilisk.
Kagain, F5. 149 kills, greater basilisk.
Shar Teel, F5. 126 kills, Firebead Elvenhair.
Montaron, F4T5. 55 kills, greater basilisk.
Xzar, Necromancer 5. 46 kills, battle horror.
Edwin, Conjurer 5. 25 kills, Taugosz Khosann.

Quick Note:

I've abandoned Arlene (I may return to her at a later date though- I like her personality). I'm now soloing a Monk named Alai.

I don't expect Alai's game to end well. Her death sequence will likely begin with her potion buffs being dispelled. That'll be sad. But for now, I'm quite enjoying kicking Xvarts in the head...

I'll post with further info on Alai soon. She's at level 5 now.

I've abandoned Alai as well. Capricous me.

I keep thinking back to Alastria's death in Suldanessalar and I can't shake the feeling that I've left something unfinished. You can probably guess what character i'm playing now. I'm likely to see this one through.

Posted Image

Proficiency: Darts
Spells: Level 1-  Chill Touch, Shield

Character Description

Alastria is a Transmuting/Melee Sorceress. Some know her from the BG-II No Reload Thread. She relies on magically created weapons and doesn't keep ranged damage spells in her book. Her character concept may be difficult to work with in BG1 but I intend to give it a try.

Personal Item

Alastria's Silken Robe

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Familiar

Tweedle-Deedles

The Dove, Tweedle-Deedles, has been Alastria's companion since childhood. He never leaves her side.

Posted Image

Modified Tutu Fairy Dragon Familiar. Casts Strength instead of Mirror Image. Bird animation and Icon. Otherwise identical.

NW: If anyone can share an easy way to make Tweedle-Deedles white let me know.

Good luck with your sorceress, Alesia_BH.

Solo Diviner run update:
After
Gorion’s death, Moruvyn traveled east. Armed with sling, he managed to slay several gibberlings and ogre with
belt fetish.

i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Moruvyn/Baldr009.jpg

With luck, he survived travel to Beregost. In the town,
Moruvyn pacified Marl, fetched book for mage Elvenhair, bought Sling+1
with the help of Friends spell, returned Mirianne letter from her
husband and found boots of stealth belonging to halfling
thief Zhurlong. Eventually, he advanced to level 2 and currently has
7HP.
