@Borco, well met and welcome :) Good luck with Felisin. My first submitted no-reload character on these forums was also a roleplayed character with  non-optimized stats (a Halfling Bounty Hunter). She disn't last very long. Hopefully your Cleric will fare better :)

@Grond0, good work, congratulations and good luck finding all those lost companions in Amn!

@Grimwald, I kind of understand how you feel, because in vast majority of my playthroughs Thalantyr fails as well (though time and again he does succeed). Your case sounds like a bug. Although 2000 early XP is very convenient, between doing a re-install and taking other paths to easy XP (Shoal, Marl, Firebead, Mirianne, Joia) I'd opt for the latter.

@epsil0, shame about the Wild Cleric, great concept (I've considered kitting a Sorcerer as a Wild Mage for similar fun). Break a leg with Taggar!

Well met & welcome to the Crew, Borco. It's always a pleasure to follow a RP run so all the best and safe travels for Felisin.

@Grond0: well done! Pretty sad that Esher couldn't make it out of Jon's dungeon so better luck for her new incarnation.

@Epsil0: Impish Face is glad to meet his brother-in-arms Taggar and wish him pleasant journey!

Stanley - elf sorceror (1st and final update)

I didn't fancy running another party immediately, so generated a character more suited to solo play in my modded installation.

In Candlekeep Stanley looked longingly at the bag of holding sold by Winthrop, but had no way to raise enough funds to buy it and just left.  After giving Imoen the slip (in my solo runs I don't allow any NPC recruitment) he used color spray to kill Xzar and Montaron before moving on.  Shoal the nereid has nasty abilities in this installation, so was left alone, but work around Beregost was still enough to take Stanley to level 2.

A bit more XP in Nashkel got him to the verge of level 3 and that was achieved by returning to Beregost to kill Algernon (manipulating reputation to get one each of good and evil powers) and then recovering a bit of reputation from Firebead.

He was on the way to the basilisk area when a hobgoblin ambush triggered.  He wasn't far from the edge of the map and had taken no damage from a couple of archers when he collapsed - he had 16 HPs, but that was obviously insufficient to protect him from a critical.

I would have restarted him, but realised I'd forgotten to take a starting save, so there'll be a brief delay while I roll again to recreate him ...

Stanley - elf sorceror (update 2)

I made Stanley lawful good this time hoping to get enough funds for a bag of holding at Candlekeep, but after collecting everything possible without buying anything else he was still 7 GP short.  Undaunted, he stocked up on darts and left.

After progressing in a similar fashion to the first Stanley this one successfully made it to the basilisk area without any archer ambushes and set about attacking the basilisks using a green scroll for protection.  That was slow going with his darts, but the green scroll lasts a long time and he was able to pick off all the basilisks away from Mutamin.

After resting he recruited Korax and then tried to use him to paralyse Mutamin.  However, the mage was not only quick to run away, but also happy to open up a conversation with the invisible Stanley .  He didn't follow that up with an attack, but did kill Korax before he could deal with the basilisks.  Stanley tried a few webs and put one lot of magic missiles into Mutamin, but decided pursuing him was too risky and eventually ran away.

Invisibility was then used for safe travel and to scout out opponents - they were then often webbed before being taken down with darts and magic missiles.  At level 6 skull traps were added to the armoury and Stanley went in search of Mulahey to demonstrate how they worked to him.  Nimbul was another web victim and was kind enough to leave a find familiar scroll behind when he died.  Tranzig has pretty good saves and did actually manage to break free of multiple webs, but he was badly wounded with his morale gone and soon died anyway. Stanley found the location of the Bandit Camp from him and has just arrived there.

As Stanley has got the benefit of magic options I'm again trying to progress with him without using any potions at all (in addition to my normal restriction of no item-based healing).

Spell list:
L1 - color spray, magic missile, identify, PfE
L2 - invisibility, web
L3 - skull trap

ANYBODY KNOW THE NAME OF THE ANTICHICKENATOR SPELL?

In Shadowkeeper, I found a level 1 Wizard Spell called Antichickenator. Maybe you could give it to your character as a special ability?

Best of luck with your Sorcerer Grond0!

I don't have that spell. I am suspecting that it has been overwritten by another spell. What is the name of the file? I might be able to find it somewhere on my computer and rectify things. I have always thought that some day I would make a sorcerer who knew that spell and see if I could do the quest without going to High Hedge. A waste of a spell for a sorcerer I know, but I always like to try things differently. The game often seems to want you to follow a script. I like to follow my own script. :)

I loved it when I found a way into Baldur's Gate before dealing with the Cloakwood Mines.  :)  Sadly someone then "corrected" the mistake so that you couldn't do it without using CLUA. :(

Hmm... I haven't lost at this point of the game in awhile! Without covering all the details from here to there, Belt survived the Doppel attacks only for Sarevok himself to off him, thus ending Taggar's run.

That seems to be a feature of SCS.  I've seen it occasionally in BGT, but in SCS Sarevok seems to be far more aggressive about targeting the dukes ...

@Epsil0, it happens in my install as well. In subsequent playthroughs you could try the following: once the last Doppelganger is killed, lure Belt with your PC into one of the anterooms where Sarevok and Belt can't see each other. (Belt will follow you because he needs to start conversation with you.) Works in my game.

Mine too.  Surrounding Sarevok with summons and casting invisibility on the dukes are other options

Stanley - elf sorceror (update 3)

At the Bandit Camp Stanley showed himself to get the alarm sounded and then went invisible.  Lots of bandits arrived, but not Raemon, so Stanley killed a few bandit with a pair of skull traps before he turned up - he then immediately ran until he had a bit of space to safely go invisible again.  He still had to do a bit more sniping and running though until Venkt turned up, who was his main concern.  He used his last invisibility to disappear again and rest before starting the combat again.

He spent a while running and casting before having to run off the map when Venkt sent a chromatic orb at him.  The ability of the bandits to home in on him anywhere on the map made it hard to get Venkt on his own and Stanley had to run away a second time before killing him.  After that invisibility, webs, skull traps and magic missiles made fairly quick work of the chasing pack.  When cleaning up the bodies Stanley found a charisma tome.

After running invisibly through the Cloakwood Stanley used an initial web attack to kill the casters outside the mine - taking him to level 7.  After resting, another lot of webs dealt with the fighters.  I was disappointed initially to see that Drasus didn't have the boots of speed - only to find them on Genthore's body!

I thought Daveorn would be a major challenge, so left the Cloakwood mine for now and went in search of easier prey.  Carelessly I wasn't travelling invisibly and was fortunate here that it was one of the spiders further away that webbed him in an ambush (by which time he had cast invisibility) rather than the one right next to him.

The ankheg nest was cleared by casting web on the ankhegs, showing himself then going invisible and attacking once the ankhegs were held.  They appeared to be too stupid to use the normal SCS calls for help and their saving throws are pretty poor, so that tactic worked well - though there was a need to be careful not to run out of MMM and charge into the web after the ankheg.

Next he went after Shoal.  She has significant MR, but not enough to save her from 5 stacked webs followed up by MMMs.  Returning to Beregost Stanley called on Karlat, but then had a nasty shock when he was standing in the middle of a web field when Lamalha arrived.  He managed to get out of the web, but in any case Lamalha was taking no action - the SCS script for this encounter tended to get broken in earlier versions when Lamalha came into a house rather than ambushing outside and it looks like that's still the case.  After cutting Lamalha down Stanley looked outside and only saw Silke - she also died from web and MMM.

A couple of battle horrors at Durlag's Tower got Stanley to level 8.  The basilisks on the roof there were also not calling out to each other and separately died from webs and skull traps.  He couldn't safely get the tome yet though so just left.  He didn't wait long to pick another web victim though as Bassilus got the treatment.  Some more of the same, including another lot of ankhegs got him his 9th and final level.

Now out of excuses to put Davaeorn off any more Stanley has returned to the Cloakwood mine ready for his next big test.

Thanks. I will investigate.

Didn't work either by having a fighter/mage casting the spell or by taking the spell out of the override folder. :(

It is something that I can live with. It just makes dual-classing a bit harder. If you have dual classed to a mage, those 2000 points are very handy.

From Felisin's diary...

Day 1:

The day of my leaving of Candlekeep has proved to be more than eventful. Right after having bartered most of the money from father for that dented armor and an ill-fitting helmet from Winthorp as instructed, I've met that elderly mage with a bizarre name (oh, but how I mistrust these practitioners of the arcane arts) and promised to fetch him some parchment from Tethoril before I take my leave. As expected, I ran into the First Reader in the inner keep. If it were not for the man’s sense of urgency, the sublime voices of the Chanters and the garden’s cool air made the moment of our conversation almost tranquil. Before heading back to the inn, I decided to say farewells to other residents of the keep. And by that time the rest of the day has become a blur…

The attempt on my life by some elven assassin, that occurred inside this very walls which I have known for life, leaves me still shaken.  Only briefly I remember his frenzied eyes and the sound of his neck snapping under my weapon in a desperate act of defense. Questioning the motives of this man instead of minding the cut-wounds on my arms, I ran straight to father. I believe I have met Imoen on my way then, whom was talking some nonsense about my journey…pity, I wish now that I would have given her at least a proper goodbye. Only by seeing me, Gorion instantly realizes that something has gone awry and forces our immediate departure, although he still hasn’t provided any explanation as to this whole arrangement and its ends. Hopefully, there will be time enough to answer all my questions. For now, I have feeling that there is a long night ahead of us.

We pass the massive gates of Candlekeep and into the World. Leaving without any grandeur, I turn around to look upon my former home one last time and the only absurd thing I realize is that I have not returned that stupid scroll to Firebeard Elvenhair. Oh, grant me stength, Helm...

Illian, Day 12

We sent Neera to calm down at the Friendly Arm Inn.

An elven ranger, Kivan, is a crack shot with a bow. Luckily he was willing to travel with us. I think his skill will come in handy.

Thalantyr sold us some useful items, including a Find Familar scroll. Illian is perhaps less likely to die at this point.

Minor Beregost quests done. Although the Beregost Temple is now crawling with vampiric wolves and worgs. Its not safe to travel to that region; not for a long while.

We've made it to Nashkel, where we foiled yet another assassination attempt. Time to investigate the carnvial.

Stanley - elf sorceror (update 4)

After sneaking down to Davaeorn's level Stanley showed himself to Davaeorn before running out of range of his web / stinking cloud and going invisible while Davaeorn and the guards concentrated on some summoned dire wolves.

After a teleport field expired a cloudkill scroll made a bit of a mess of the guards surrounding Davaeorn allowing Stanley to take on Davaeorn relatively unsupported.  Stanley used invisibility to avoid spells and countered Davaeorn's own use of invisibility with another charge of monster summoning before closing for the finish.  Four lots of MMMs did enough fire damage to see the mustard jelly off while it was concentrating on some dire wolves.  That proved to be very worthwhile when Stanley found it had been guarding a Robe of the Good Archmagi and an intelligence tome.  He also found a shield amulet in a bookcase before he flooded the mine and left.

Before going to Baldur's Gate Stanley returned to Durlag's Tower and used an improved invisibility scroll to get his saving throw into safe territory while collecting a wisdom tome there.  I wasn't too bothered about getting any other tomes, so on arrival in the city Stanley went straight to investigate the Iron Throne and then reported to Duke Eltan.  Back at Candlekeep he quickly checked the tombs using 2 knock scrolls and a divine might - gauntlets of weapon expertise being the most useful item - before leaving using an invisibility scroll.

Before resting he went to kill Bentan to get his scroll and reduce reputation - picking up divine wrath as his final Bhaal power.  He then donated at the temple and did a few quests to quickly maximise reputation before returning.  One of those was in the lighthouse area and checking the pirate cave there invisibly Stanley found the constitution tome - that actually might be useful as he's likely to make use of the Claw of Kazgaroth early on in BG2.

After buying the Claw and Horn Stanley returned to the city in search of Slythe - he died the normal webbed death before Stanley grabbed his things and left.

At the palace Stanley used his spell buffs then showed himself.  A malison and then confusion (both from scroll) affected 2 of the dopplegangers, although they continued attacking.  His pre-cast MMMs didn't quite manage to kill the assassin, but it was then scared by a horror.  A few stunning darts had no effect, but a second horror sent the shaman and one of the greater dopplegangers running. However, at that point the doppleganger mage sent a fireball in from somewhere that killed Liia and took Belt to near death.  Stanley boosted him a bit with a healing touch and managed to kill the last doppleganger attacking him before turning on to the mage to try and prevent it attacking Belt by keeping summons going near it.  The mage targeted Stanley with further spells, taking him down to 22 HPs, but fortunately his shield prevented a stream of magic missiles from finishing him off.  Belt during this was in a side room and Stanley tried to keep the mage from activating him again, but he ran around so much that wasn't possible and Belt rejoined the fray.  Fortunately the mage was now out of spells and even at near death Belt proved strong enough to finish him off.  He still didn't want to talk though and Stanley had to hunt round to find a doppleganger that had run downstairs.  Stanley then led Belt into a side room to talk and waited a bit to show himself so that Sarevok would immediately then retreat.

Checking the bodies Stanley found Liia had a ring of invisibility and took that before talking to Belt and being sent after Sarevok.  He's just gone invisibly through the maze, avoiding the traps and the Undercity party, and arrived at the temple.

Sorry to hear that B_V.  Did you not hang on to Gorion's belt - that makes winter wolves a nice easy source of XP in BGEE?

I had the belt. It was a one-shot death from full HP. Must have been a critical? Or maybe SCS changed something to make the wolves more dangerous... Regardless, I'm feeling rusty from several years away from the mix here.

Stanley - elf sorceror (5th and final update)

For the final confrontation Stanley produced some summons before activating Sarevok.  Worried about insta-kill effects and with no potions allowed he then used a protection from magic scroll - overlooking that would cancel his stoneskins!  However, his summons successfully drew out the rest of the gang and Stanley ran for the corner before using his ring to go invisible - though unfortunately not before Sarevok had hit him.

As Angelo is the only one of the group that wanders round on his own Stanley tempted him to show himself with some summoned monsters.  He's a pretty tough character though and it took around 20 charges from the wand to finally see him on his way with the help of some damage from a lightning wand - a couple more lots of summoned monsters then dealt with the skeleton warrior.

He had no luck again dragging the others away from Sarevok, so waited until his protection from magic scroll had finished before using his Bhaal healing ability on himself.  He then took advantage of the others' tendency to cling to Sarevok by fireballing them from out of sight until Semaj died.  Diarmid was next to go and shortly afterwards Tazok - at which point Stanley used a PfU scroll to allow him to use MMM to easily kill the 3 skeleton warriors as they wandered round.  After his fire wand burnt up from overuse he switched to using his own magic missiles.  Even with no speed advantage he could create just enough space to use those on Sarevok - and with stoneskins now up it wouldn't have mattered even if Sarevok had got the odd hit in.  Seeing he had no chance Sarevok eventually gave up.
