After figuring out that the Iron Throne was to blame for the major troubles in the region, Tolman turned his sights to Baldur's Gate. He and his gang of small adventurers (and a bard) traveled the city to learn more before confronting anyone about the iron shortage. Besides, he had stumbled upon a powerful ally in Scar of the Flaming Fist.
Tolman found much to do in the city: impolite mages in the Sorcerous Sundries, jobs to do for the thieves guild (Alora knew the guildmaster), surprise encounters in varoius houses (not everyone was nice to visitors), and various intrigues (Ramazith/Ragefast, Brielbara/Yago, Nemphre/Arkion, etc.). In Ramazith's tower, there was a close call fighting ghasts, but quick ranged attacks saved the helpless Yeslick and Quayle.

Tolman was also asked by one resident to retrieve the body of his son from the Temple of Umberlee. Tenya, who Tolman had met earlier, was willing to help out, but she was very nasty about the whole thing. Later on, Tolman needed something from the high priestess, and she was nasty about that business, too. He ended up just taking what he needed.
Carrying out Scar's requests (and helping Aldeth) led to the discovery of many dopplegangers in the city. Tolman helped a cursed man named Ghorak, stoped a rampaging basilisk, found a book for a bard, and helped a mother deliver a gift to her son. They also returned to the thieve's guild for their reward, but it did not work out as planned. Due to the party's combat abilities, however, Resar died instantly to many quick hits, even before Narlen appeared!

Tolman found a house full or horrors, and his gang prepared for a large battle by readying wands and summoning hobgoblins. Then Kagain lured the monsters out into the streets. The battle was long but rather uneventful. Between the summons and Kagain's tank abilities, eventually most of the monsters were paralyzed (it seemed that the invisible stalkers were better at saving against wands). After that, the fight was no trouble at all.

From there the Tolman met the owner of the house, freed some adventurers, found a magic helmet, and then faced a different adventuring band which was not as friendly. In this play through, Gorpel Hind did not join the battle. It ended up being a fun battle as only Quayle got hit with a bad spell effect. Also, one of the Maulers, Wilf, ran out the door despite not having a morale failure. I guess he was making room to cast spells?

In the sewers the party exposed a murderous Ogre Mage, much to Scar's delight, and also cleared out other sewer infestations. Of note was the Sewer King, who Kagain soloed just fine, despite being on the receiving end of 3 citical hits in a row (at -15!). (Kagain saved all three times, but I am curious what effect the Sewer King's attack can cause.) After reporting success to Scar, the party took a break from official Fist business and traveled away from the city to hunt Ankhegs.
Back in Baldur's Gate, the party rested and then met with Scar and Duke Eltan. They entered the Iron Throne headquarters and made it to the top easily. Garrick read a magic protection scroll and went up to the top floor with wands ready. He got one fireball blast off, but took fast arrow damage so he retreated back down. The battle became really interesting because the merchants went hostile, and the archer (Cloudwulfe) came down the other stairs. The mages wasted a lot of spells on Garrick and Kagain made lots of saves, so it was really only Cloudwulfe who did any damage (a bit each to Tolman and Yeslick). After that was cleared up on the floor below (with no innocents killed, I might add!), the last three upstairs (Alai, Gardush, and Thaldorn) were very easy for the party to deal with.

The party rested again (Tolman got dream #4), and then they made preparations to pay Duke Eltan a return visit.
My notes show that everyone except Tolman got a level during this play session. Tolman will probably get one more thief level at 110k experience before the end and maybe another fighter level at 125k? Of course, this assumes I make it all the way, but I am feeling good about this party. I have not seen any party member deaths in a while despite a number of slipups. Keep your fingers crossed.

By the way, all the challenges seem like a lot of fun and are certainly a lot of fun to read about. I only wish I had more time to play.
