My mods have enabled me to roll up an elven fighter/conjurer, Ica'LymeQuain (Lord ally of light) according to web site I came accross.

Str 18/56, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 18, Wis 15, Cha 9.

** Long sword * Longbow * Sword and shield style.

A completely different strategy at the start. Shield followed by Blindness to fight improved Shank and Carbos was the plan.

In my last game my Blackguard came within one point of death, so when the blindness spell was saved against, some quick thinking was required.

Dashed outside hoping to put on some armour before I was followed outside. Not quick enough. :( Therefore made a dash to the training room. With the allies there the rest was easy. Went to the far end of the room where I was able to sleep before using oil of speed.

The other assassins were then easy. :)

I could have taken the oil of speed first of course and then they would all have been easy, but I like to act as if I don't know what is coming next.

A lot of the assassins equipment was useless to me, but one of them had just stolen  my Moonblade which I was so glad to recover.

After leaving the keep with Gorion we were attacked by yet more assassins. These were much tougher and actually killed my mentor Gorion.

After arranging for his burial, I went in search of various items which he had told me to look for: A diamond; A ring of protection plus1; a ring of wizardry; and some bracers. I managed to get hold of these without fighting so hopefully my trail will by now have gone cold. In addition I have been given a charisma enhancing ring by Lord Foreshadow.

Next I intended us to climb another level in the keep, which turned out to be the topmost floor.  It seemed to be easy enough as we killed five Ghasts & gathered a few gems.

Key Event:  It was then that we came across a Succubus without her wings. She claimed they’d been clipped by Durlag Trollkiller & thus she’s been trapped there for hundreds of years. This is the first demon or demoness we have crossed in our travels. Having lived @ Candlekeep I had lessons from the monks on demon kind:

…the Succubus is a member of the Tanar’ri, the dominant subcategory of demons. Originally created by the Obyriths as slaves, they eventually revolted against their masters, killing most of them and taking over as the dominant race of demons in the Abyss.  Most known demon lords are Tanar'ri.1 A succubus appears as a stunning woman with flawless skin, long beautiful hair, small horns & large bat-like wings mounted on their backs. They have the following powers, at will, Charm (men preferably), Teleport, become Ethereal, Shape Change & their kisses drain a victims energy.  It is said they have other powers, the most daunting of which is the ability to gate in another more powerful demon: Nalfanshee (70% chance), Balrog (25%), or even one of the lords or princes (5% chance) - there is only a 40% chance of such a gate opening, however.  They can perform any of the five demonic roles: Overlord, Assassin, Brute, Corrupter or Manipulators. By far, they are most often the latter two, assuming a beautiful, irresistible, human form in order to tempt mortals with a kiss, or other acts of passion, after which the victim may become weakened and under the control of the succubus. Succubi delight in causing suffering by manipulating the desires of mortals and tempting them into depraved acts that they would normally avoid. This strife often causes the destruction of long-term relationships and sows distrust between life-long friends and lovers. Succubi are not warriors. Their method of causing destruction is slow and manipulative when compared to other demons.    A Succubus’ as Corrupter & Manipulator can easily lead mortals seeking a host of perversions, debaucheries & euphoric experiences to become dupes to a life of capitulation of the senses & when the mortals finally give themselves fully to the pursuit of their new sensations & addictions they are drawn into the 570th layer of the abyss, Shendilavri (as soul larvae or still in the flesh). They now belong to Malcanthet, the Demon Queen of the Succubi who takes great pleasure in the torment & ruin of her ‘guests’.

Luckily, in our meeting with this Succubus, Durlag had taken her wings so she could not get airborne but she still had her other innate powers. When she tried to become Ethereal, Imoen used Glitterdust to perfection & we were able to continue to strike her. Truly, this was Imoen’s fight & she got her best kill yet by delivering the killing blow w/a Magic Missile spell, her second one in addition to the Glitterdust that kept the Succubus somewhat visible. Minsc landed at least one damaging blow but everything happened so fast I’m not sure what else happened. Kirinhale was cornered & I expected her to use Teleport to get away but our assault was merciless & we killed her quickly.  A demon or demoness’ death comes in various forms. In the case of this Succubus she let out a death cry that was almost overwhelming as her body twisted & tore apart into a vicious whirlwind. An incredible, unnerving thing to witness that my words can’t even come close to actually describing!!!

DEATH OF A DEMONESS

Afterward, still shaken from witnessing the demoness’ death but healthy otherwise, I led us down the stairs to the Basement to see what was down there.  We smashed five more Ghasts & found various gems & 570 Gold in a trapped and locked tile in a tiled alcove. We also found another doorway but elected to head back out for a while to rest/recover, etc.

Treasure of Note: (Purse = 1,906 gold) 570 Gold in the locked tile

I have discovered that the Morningmasters in Beregost are illegal. They are not strong enough to wear their full plate armour.

Wondering what to do.

Three choices.

1) Ignore it and just carry on.

2) Go into SK and swap their armour for similar but lighter armour, mithril perhaps.

3) Change their strength using SK.

Which to choose?

My drow fighter/conjurer continues:

In Beregost I was attacked by huge spiders. Since I was not wearing armour I fled.

I was hoping that the servants of Lathander would help, but they were as useless as a chocolate teapot.

I therefore fled into an inn, ending up upstairs. There I met Algernon who was equally useless. I therefore charmed him and he then proved useful, for upon dying he dropped his cloak which I quickly retrieved.

I immediately ran downstairs and to my relief was able to don some armour before the spiders turned up.

Using Algernon's cloak I charmed Marl and his friend before turning my attention to the various servants of Lathander. They were hard to charm but eventually I charmed them and though they turned out to be useless fighters, they did have useful equipment. Marl killed a spider before dying himself.

The spiders followed me outside where I charmed them before taking them to visit Silke. When Silke attacked I charmed one of those she wanted murdering. She did the evil deed herself before succumbing to the spiders.

Karlat killed another of those that I was trying to save before falling to my blade.

I spoke to the last of them with the result that I gained three potions of defence from them.

You also mention Hard Times which is the staple of my BG/TotSC runs - I never play w/o that.

Yeah, I don't think Hard Times is available for BG:EE. Someone might correct me, but I couldn't find a version that said it worked, and I didn't try it. (SCS and randomizer seem to be working just fine). I seem to be getting thrashed just fine without Hard Times though; Aliex didn't make it very far. (I also got bored with her and may have walked her off a cliff). Onward to the next character.

Thanks, but the bandits had other ideas. Imoen and Benjam died amidst a hail of arrows on their way to the Friendly Arm Inn... Not much I could have done about that one. I needed a potion of invisibilty badly... but there were none to be had.

You could travel to Beregost first. In the Travenhurst mansion there's an invisibility potion free for the stealing :) Besides, doing some of the quests in and around Beregost might enable you to level up and gain some HPs.

She and Imoen survived an ambush at the Friendly Arm Inn. Imoen picked up Tarnesh's spellbook...

If you want to be cautious you can avoid the main road between Nashkel and the FAI - that requires you to travel just one area at a time as otherwise the game will default to travelling on that road.  It's a bit counter-intuitive, but none of the ambushes on those side routes offers the same level of threat as a bandit ambush to low level characters.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 73 - (update 2)

Eyesore, gnome illusionist (Grond0) & Danya, elf fighter/mage (Gate70)

This magical pairing had a number of problems yesterday and required a spot of sprinkled fairy dust from Lady Luck to get out of one particularly large hole they dug for themselves, but somehow they both survived to tell the tale ...

Their session started with a few reputation quests before attempting an assault on the sirines at the Lighthouse.  The first group were disabled with stinking clouds from out of sight.  Unfortunately doing that made it difficult to attack them and, after killing 1 sirine, Eyesore activated some wolves while moving round the cloud, while Danya briefly starting coughing up her guts.  Neither were attacked by the remaining sirines, but by the time the wolves were dead the cloud had dissipated - so they rested invisibly before coming in again to finish the job.  Sil and her companions were much easier to cover with a cloud and died easily before Eyesore acted as an invisible blocker to allow Danya to taunt the golems with her arrows.

Heading north they attempted to rob the ankhegs - Eyesore recovering treasure from the nest, while Danya spoke to Farmer Brun above.  That conversation interrupted Eyesore's attempt to go invisible again though and she was hit by some ankheg spit before disappearing at the second attempt.  Trying to refine tactics against ankhegs Eyesore then cast a stinking cloud at the one near Tenya to the north - only for Danya to get caught in it again.  The ankheg saved against sleep, but fortunately failed against both a blind that Danya had already sent on its way and the stinking cloud.

After shopping at Ulgoth's Beard the duo travelled south again to the Nashkel mine.  Mulahey was initially incapacitated by a stinking cloud and, though he saved against 2 blinds, the damage he had taken by then made him run as soon as he recovered from the cloud - he didn't get far.  Stinking cloud also worked without problems on a group of amazons.

Nimbul and Tranzig both fell easily on the way to the Bandit Camp.  Danya used shield there, which along with her equipment meant she could only be hit by criticals - allowing her to mow down the bandit archers.  Taugosz fell surprisingly easily when he failed his saving throw against a chromatic orb stun.  Inside the tent this duo got some revenge for our death there in the last run - Venkt and Hakt were blinded initially and Britik charmed.  Britik changed allegiance when Raemon eventually talked, but the fight was won shortly afterwards anyway.

After passing invisibly through the Cloakwood the mages at the mine failed to survive some stinking clouds.  Drasus chased Danya for a bit, but was badly hit by spells and didn't last long, while Genthore had been blinded initially and just provided a bit of target practice.  Inside the mine the duo moved down to Daveorn's level invisibly before killing the guard.  Things started to go wrong though when using a skull trap to soften up the battle horrors brought Davaeorn out to see what was going on.  The duo ran upstairs and went invisible, but then failed to rest several times.  Despite being aware of the danger they didn't find a safe spot to try and rest and got blocked in by a horde of guards appearing as a result.  Eyesore charmed one of those to get the others to move and allow her to get out of the trap, but was then faced with having no further invisibility and with a host of enemies between her and safety - oh and the minor issue of being down to 3 HPs.  Danya did some sterling work by running round with the boots of speed trying to get the guards, particularly any archers, to focus on her, while Eyesore thinned out her attackers with wand scorchers.  After some tricky movements they managed to get upstairs onto Hareishan's level and fortunately the guards close by there didn't alert the mage and died in close quarters to wand scorchers or Danya's blade.  There were still 2 ghasts between Eyesore and safety, but Danya managed to run past them in the corridor before they could react and then shoot them down.  The duo left the mine and then went right to the edge of the map to rest - though there was no ambush anyway.

With HPs and spells restored they returned to find Davaeorn.  His battle horrors were spread out a bit and died separately to spell attacks before confronting the mage.  He had clearly been up all night pondering exactly how those mages had managed to escape from his well-set trap - and as a result appeared to have no spells memorised and was quickly cut down despite saving continually against a stinking cloud.

Eventually arriving in Baldur's Gate the duo went searching for tomes.  The poison quest was successfully concluded - getting a bonus with another pair of boots of speed from Lothander on the way.  Danya's use of grease was helpful there as it's difficult to pause in MP when you want and the apparent position of things on the screen is not always the real one - thus while Lothander appeared to have been surrounded by summons I suspect he might have been able to run away anyway.  Marek's confusion was foiled by the Greenstone Amulet, but he surprisingly lasted long enough to attempt a lightning bolt as well - bad idea.

Stats:

Eyesore, illusionist 7, 50 HPs, 87 kills

Danya, fighter 6 / mage 6, 51 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 182 kills, 0 deaths

Oh my, I really need some practice. Tarnesh got Antha with a pair of magic missles after resisting a triplet of blind spells. I think I'm going to try something different.

If you walk away as soon as Tarnesh sees you and let him follow you around the temple, he will eventually lose sight of you and you can enter the inn safely and get some allies. With them, fighting him is much easier particularly if you buff before leaving the Inn.

Diary of Ica'LymeQuain

By helping the Dudley family and Eltoth, I became a hero whilst being still at level 1!

I then headed to the Friendly Arms Inn where I charmed one of the caravan guards before meeting Tarnesh.

Once Tarnesh was hostile I left it to them to fight it out.

Tarnesh panicked as death rapidly approached and ran into the inn.

I followed and dealt the final blow.

The guard and I then went in search of Joia's ring.

The guard killed four hobgoblins, but the fifth killed him.

Picking up the guard's armour, I was pleased to discover that it gave as much protection as the armour that I had been using, but being mithril, it did not prevent the casting of spells. :)

This battle made me a second level fighter. After returning Joia's ring I headed north and helped a frightened widow. At that point I also became a second level conjurer.

I agreed to help Sonner, but on discovering the truth, helped his enemy and became a third level fighter. ** Long Sword * Longbow * Sword and shield style.

At the friendly Arms Inn, I met a dwarf who sold me a helm of charm protection. :)

I then headed south and beat up Tristan and Isolde. :)

I tried to help Melicamp but "FAILED YET AGAIN" Killed Bassilus, and the strongest one there is!

Killed some worgs near the lighthouse and lots of sirene (7) and flesh golems (8). Every time that I tried to sleep to heal myself, more golems appeared until at last I tried sleeping near the boy's mother. Headed south where I helped the archaeologist and reached level 5 fighter and conjurer.

I then used wraithform against the doomsayer and it proved to be highly effective.

Then helped Brage and killed Neira.

Reputation now 20.

Finbar, Halfling Cleric/Thief (1st update)

After Norgath's tragic death in his own pocketplane of all places, it was time for Blackraven to look for new inspiration. As often he went searching for portraits, until he found an irresistible little Halfling. Thus Finbar was born, a CG nordic Halfling Battleguard of Tempus/Thief.I rolled him as a Battleguard of Tempus and added the Thief kit in Shadowkeeper.
The 95 roll must have been my highest roll on a Cleric ever. I adjusted his stats, applying my method of lowering one stat to a minimum, i.e. his CHA, and raising the rest. And then I somehow failed to lower his INT to 15 and raise his CHA back to 10, before clicking 'Accept'. (The +3 INT doesn't really add anything except a few lore points, while +3 CHA seems to fit the character I have in mind a bit better). Anyway I'll just have to roleplay Finbar as comely and festive, yet utterly unconvincing due to his diminutive Halfling stature, an apparent lack of earnestness, a boyish voice and feminine features (mutton chops notwithstanding), and his bewildering gypsyish attire that causes many a Faerunian to question Tempus' judgement in bestowing divine powers in the little fellow. Thankfully the game offers 2-3 CHA increases, allowing him to at least end up more or less average.

The Battleguard of Tempus is a Divine Remix mod kit, with these properties. I don't know which spells he'll get as each new spell level becomes available to him, so I'll be in for a couple of surprises... :) The Halfling's starting spells were: Armor of Faith, Bless, Command, Cure Light Wounds, Curse, Detect Evil, Detect Good, Faerie Fire, Magical Stone, Protection from Evil, Protection from Good, Sanctuary, Shillelagh, Strength of Stone, and Sunscorch.
In the earliest encounters, the latter spell was used, along with Staff backstabs (initial weapon profs are *Staves and *Flails), with reasonable results, as Ogrillons, a rogue Ogre and Tarnesh would discover. In spite of his non-proficiency in ranged weapons as imposed by the Battleguard of Tempus kit, the Halfling bought a Sling +1 at Taerom's and found that with it, and with his 19 DEX and racial bonus to slings, he successfully coped with the hefty Thac0 penalty that comes with non-proficiency.
Finbar did the usual quests that would raise his reputation to heroic proportions, such as Firebead, Joia, Brun's son (using Sanctuary to ensure safe conduct past the Ankhegs), Charleston Nib, Brage, and some of the Mini Quests & Encounters mod quests. It made Tempus grant his disciple access to level 2 spells: Aid, Chant, Charm Person/Mammal, DUHM, Find Traps, Flame Blade, Know Alignment, Resist Acid/Corrosion, Resist Fire/Cold, Silence 15' Radius, Slow Poison, and Spiritual Hammer.
Algernon was relieved of his cloak, after which but useless items were bartered for more practical goods: the +1 DEX Red Ioun Stone, Shadow Armor, Aule's Staff, Cloak of Displacement, Greenstone Amulet, and Necklace of Missiles. The latter item proved instrumental in his victory over Mutamin, after a backstab and a Sunscorch failed to dispatch the Gnome, and a save vs spell (Horror) had to be made.
The Halfling had an exciting time in Black Alaric's cave, where he would not prevail over a number of Flesh Golems without getting hit himself. The treasure and some spare gold he exchanged at Thalantyr's for the Claw of Kazgaroth. He's currently a reasonably well-equipped level 6/6 Cleric/Thief.

I changed his alignment to CN after a number of heists and morally questionable decisions (such as the decision to backstab Kirian). It meant that next to the Cure Wounds, the Cause Wounds spells would become available to him as well (not that he ever memorizes them).
His level 3 spells are: Call Lightning, Cause Medium Wounds, Cure Blindness or Deafness, Cure Disease, Cure Medium Wounds, Dispel Magic, Glyph of Warding, Hold Animal, Holy Smite, Invisibility Purge, Miscast magic, Moonblade, Negative Plane Protection, PfEvil 10' Radius, PfFire, PfGood 10' Radius, Remove Curse, Remove Paralysis, Summon Insects, and Zone of Sweet Air. Thieving skill points have gone to Stealth and (Set/Disarm) Traps.

Darian entered; and Darian met his end at the poisoned fangs of a basilisk. (I gave up on avoiding metagaming and now I'm shamelessly trying to harvest experience points. However, bad kiting with SCS = dead character.)

a Sunfire failed to dispatch the Gnome.

I thought when I first read the report that it was a bit odd the kit gave you access to a L5 mage spell as a starting cleric spell.  Having had a look at your screenshot of the fight with Mutamin I see the spell is rather less vicious :P (though if that's the spell used in Icewind Dale it's still a decent pick for a L1 spell).  Best of luck with Finbar.

@BV I hope Elowyn's knowledge of the trials to come will lead to success ...

Thanks for wishing me luck and for pointing out my mistake :) The spell is called Sunscorch, which is indeed one of a number of spells taken from Icewind Dale. I corrected my previous post (and included a mention of Finbar's level 2 spells; forgot to do yesterday).

Thanks!

After leaving Candlekeep, Elowyn and Imoen stumbled across a nymph in the forest. Imoen collapsed at the nymph's first touch, but Elowyn managed to shoot the nymph down. (A few levels gained, and Imoen's motionless body left on the ground.) A few quests done in Beregost, a quick trip to a carnival, a lot of fights avoided, and now she's headed to harvest some basilisks.

And now that my hack-and-slash instinct was fulfilled with Gondil, it's time to go back to the Skald...

Rhapsody, Human Skald, introduction

I've yet to leave Candlekeep; these are Rhapsody's stats.

Screen%20Shot%202015-02-17%20at%209.32.2

This is a Rogue-Rebalanced Skald, so for those who don't know, the kit now does this:

+1 to THAC0 and damage from level 1. Skald's song grants +2 damage, +2 THAC0, -2 AC, and immunity to Fear. At level 9, increases to +3 bonuses at level 3, immunity to Confusion and Fear. At level 18, increases to +4 bonuses, and gain immunity to Confusion, Fear, and Stun. For disadvantages, the casting time of all spells are increased by 1, and only has a quarter of normal Bard pickpocketing. (Irrelevant to me as I never use it anyways.) I'm not sure if the damage increase is worth the juicy +4 to saves that Bards get; it almost forces me to run high APR parties in SoA to maximize potential, but mages are more important in SCS... We'll see how this goes!

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 73 - (3rd and final update)

Eyesore, gnome illusionist (Grond0) & Danya, elf fighter/mage (Gate70)

We managed to fit in a couple of short sessions between work today in order to see this pair safely on their way to Amn.

They started by agreeing there was nothing further to do in the City, so Eyesore just sneaked into the Iron Throne before leading the way to Candlekeep.  Spells opened up the tombs for inspection before they went invisibly past the dopplegangers.  A series of malisoned stinking clouds put Prat's gang out of action and none of them were able to take any action even after Eyesore foolishly stepped into the cloud himself (after targeting something visible to Danya, but not himself).  Before going back to the City they took a quick side trip to Durlag's Tower to pick up the final tome - and a bit of additional XP with the help of wand scorchers and magic missiles on the battle horrors.

The final encounters began with Slythe - he seemed unable to understand that attacking a jelly with a short sword is not a recipe for success - so the vicious strike by Danya wasn't really required!  On to the palace where Eyesore and Danya looked at each other asking who had the wand of monster summoning - before quickly running to Sorcerous Sundries to get it.  Some gnolls then struggled to make their way through a very greasy floor.  However, the dopplegangers also found it hard going after being affected by malison and that allowed Eyesore to act as a target, while still having quite a lot of freedom to throw darts and spells between movements.  Meanwhile Danya's arrows and spells were taking a high toll and the last 3 dopplegangers all fell virtually together leaving Belt only lightly wounded, though Liia was dead.

The duo fought their way through the maze.  The skeleton warriors were the only hard bit there, one of them badly wounding Danya, though they still needed only a single lot of monsters summoned to act as a distraction.  The Undercity party got a full complement of stinking clouds and a malison and wand fireballs proved effective against them - none surviving long enough to even test out their ability to run through the grease.

At the temple Eyesore used MGoI to trigger the lightning traps before leaving.  One of those injured Semaj, which made him wonder whether the mage would come out fighting.  However, after resting the normal dispelling arrow from extreme range resulted in only Sarevok advancing.  He met a group of ogres, but made surprisingly heavy weather of those after being malisoned and slowed.  In fact he killed only 2 of them before the damage from a stream of magic missiles along with darts and arrows and ogre attacks (made more effective by the AC penalty caused by the slow) proved decisive.

Stats:

Eyesore, illusionist 9, 58 HPs, 110 kills

Danya, fighter 7 / mage 7, 53 HPs, 202 kills, 0 deaths

Congrats to Gate/Grond0 :)

Diary of Ica’LymeQuain

I decided to go hunting Ankheg and found it to be remarkably easy as blindness made them very vulnerable.

I then investigated the southern portion of the Sword Coast helping a dryad, a dog and a cat, as well as killing two parties of assassins.

I thne stormed the Nashkel Mines. They proved to be almost a walkover, though a party of assassins required several blasts of the wand of fire that I discovered in the Ankheg's nest. It will soon be time to meet Tazok. :)

Assassins' Creed (update 1)

After giving up on my kensais for now, I thought I would start a game in my modded installation using a full party of the same character class.  Generating that randomly I came up with assassins, so there's likely to be a lot of bloated, green bodies lying around the place quite shortly .

Although all the party are chaotic evil this installation is harsh on indiscriminate killing - calls for help resulting in large numbers of people going hostile even when attacks are carried out with no-one in sight.  Therefore they won't for instance kill Firebead in Candlekeep as that would cause Gorion to go hostile and prevent escape.  However, I'm sure they'll find a decent number of acceptable targets ...

Here's the leader of the gang, Genghis, and his accomplices.
