@Dyara: Interesting update. Not many no-reloaders use charm spells much (mainly as many are unfond of relying on spells that have no effect if enemy saves), so it's interesting to see a run where that is used much. I know Algernon's Cloak gets used, but that isn't a charm spell.

Well, I think 'dire charm' was Xan's best spell and we had no protections vs. the clerics' spells (hold, rigid thinking,...) so the clerics had to be disabled.
Since Xan took the lead the risk was low (for Dyara at least). If the first dire charm had failed or he hadn't saved vs. the rigid thinking spells, well, poor Xan
. But so I really liked the fight, how I did use Xan as an enchanter and how it went. And there was some time for roleplaying too
.

Im planning to make the team invisible and go straight for Davaeorn next..
That's my plan usually as well.
Anyhow, I've decided to roll up a dwarven swashbuckler, thus meet Barin.
The kit I tweaked myself:
- fighter THAC0 with melee weapons
- specialization in swords and daggers, two-weapon style
- Grace at levels 2, 11, 19 (+1 breath saves)
- Lucky at 14 (+1 Luck)
- bonus +1 AC and additional +1 at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th, for +5 total.
- Insightful Strike, improves his critical strike range by 5, every 4 levels, startting at level 4, lasts 12 seconds.
Gains no backstab, and cannot set traps.

@Golden28: That's some serious setbacks you are getting - hang in there! One time my all paladin party tried to take on Firkraag in Chapter Two and paid a high price - all dead except Russell, and all equipment lost except that which Russell was wearing. He managed to come back and get to Melissan, though she beat him in the end.

Eh, per screenshots - as you all, dear No-Reload players, probably noticed, I post them a lot. I'm a visual person, for me, a pic is worth a 1000 words. Now, I really don't want to create lag when loading pages for other people here, but I don't really like Spoiler tags as well. Should I create a seperate topic for Barin's run? Fwiw, if he dies, I'll likely continue him anyway as a "Minimal Reload", since Ascension I've simply got to see on my install - however the chances are rather grim

I could call it "Barin's road to Ascension - and beyond". ![]()

The only point I might add is that I think it's normally preferable to use jpg format to post rather than png. I don't think there's a great deal to choose between them in terms of the quality of the displayed image, but the latter requires significantly more bandwidth - and hence slows down page loading times more which can be annoying if a page has a lot of screenshots on.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 75 - (update 3)
Ruff, gnome cleric/thief (Grond0) & Justice, human inquisitor (Gate70)
There was a worrying session this morning for Ruff & Justice - worrying because everything went too well! Thinking about it, there was not much lag this morning which made things a lot easier, but even so we clearly weren't taking enough risks ...
They started off by recovering the charisma tome and getting some Boots of the North before going to pick up Samuel and head to the Friendly Arm Inn. Tarnesh was waiting there and his mirrors would soon have evaporated when facing an inquisitor - if he had got round to producing them of course.
After Meilum was told he was a fine figure of a man and agreed to hold a pose,
the pair went back north to sort out some ankhegs. The first one there managed a decent critical on Justice, but a first use of a skeleton then took most of the remaining flack as the ankhegs were comprehensively defeated. Talking to the farmer there got reputation to 20 and a few purchases were made at Ulgoth's Beard - including a major upgrade for Ruff's staff backstabs.
Justice disdained the use of the Greenstone Amulet on Bassilus and was affected by rigid thinking as a result.
A voice out of thin air drew Ruff's attention to that small problem in time for him to run away after being hit by his companion once.
The Amulet was put to use against the sirines. Their improved invisibility clearly needs considerable further improvement as the first group was rendered visible by true sight and the second by dispel magic - making putting the beat on them simplicity itself.
The golems were faced with skeleton allies and didn't put up much more of a fight.
Heading down the coast the Doomsayer looked like a potentially worthy opponent. However, he had only killed 2 of the 3 skeletons facing him when Ruff nipped out from behind a wall for the second time to bring him down.
The Nashkel mine also offered no real challenge. The kobolds had a brief window of opportunity to shoot at Justice before getting a final sight of a giant sword swooping down towards them, but few if any took advantage of their chance. Mulahey went meekly (and silently) to his grave.
Skeletons and silence then combined to sort out the amazons.
Nimbul was treated fairly in that he was given the opportunity to talk - but not much time thereafter!
Tranzig didn't do much better as the duo marched on to the Bandit Camp. Justice was a hard target for the archers there, although they did manage to get a couple of arrows into Ruff when he ventured too far ahead while backstabbing. However, the only real threat outside was Taugosz and he felt doomed when he saw a hold person being cast at him.
Inside the main tent the help skeletons could provide would probably have been fatal for Venkt & co. The silence cast on them would likewise have been sufficient. Putting those together was just overkill ...
In the Cloakwood Ruff's detect traps ability wasn't good enough to find all the traps and he used a potion of invisibility to clear the way. In Centeol's nest Ruff sneaked in before Justice joined him and immediately came back towards the door. That meant only a few attackers came initially, providing Ruff with the chance to summon some skeletons to help sort out the rest.
Stats:
Ruff cleric 6 / thief 6, 38 HPs, 91 kills
Justice, inquisitor 6, 70 HPs, 171 kills, 0 deaths

I'll make Barin's run through BG1 quite short
. Barin, 1st BG1 update (out of two).
Barin started as a solo. Killed Shoal with Imoen's wand, did minor Beregost quests, bought a +1 Short Bow and few dozen of posion arrows, traveled south to Nashkel mines, and danced around Greywolf until he succumbed to posion. Also delivered the Flaming Fist guy back to FAI.
From there, to north - Ulgoth's Beard. Delsvifwhatever didn't like the cold-blooded murder there, hence was killed as well. 800XP + Ring of Free Action is not bad.
Now, troops must be assembled. First, Kagain (tweaked to use hammers, not axes). With his help, Ankheg lair is cleared. Next, Edwin. With his help, we kill Bassilus. He wields a wicked hammer - with IR, it has a 15% chance to release a "sound burst" when it hits someone (4d4 crushing damage in small AoE).
Finally, Viconia is aquired, to round up the team. Now we do basilisk infestation, Edwin putting his wands to good use.
Mutamin himself was hit by a poisoned arrow and failed to save, twice.
With that done, we do the Gullykin gang, Melium, and return to Ulgoth's Beard to sell a lot of stuff. And kill the dwarf there. What he has (and hides!) is Hammer+1/+4 vs Giantkin. IR version is quite different - and is to be Kagain's weapon of choice throughout BG1 from now on.
For some quick XP, Durlag is visited. I small mistake (I tought I had disarmed a trap) nearly cost Barin his life here. The manuvering to keep him alive was pretty much the best BG2 play I ever had. ![]()
We ramped up things at the Love/Pride level, but decided against going any deeper - chances of death rise drastically there.
Love stole some XP by killing Fear, but all was well. Filthy rich we are now.
Edwin buys himself whatever scrolls he needs, we clear out Nashkel mines (we're level 7 already) - Amazons soon followed since Edwin knows Confusion, which is very hard to save against in BG1. Nimbul got a Wand of Paralyzation charge, as usual, since he's annoyingly hard to hit otherwise.
To Bandit Camp. Unlike my previous runs, I decided to fight this. Equiped with Wand of Fire, Oils of Fire, we fear nothing. In addition, Barin had two Detonation arrows from Durlag's, which he used here.
It was a fiery endeavor.
Some Skull Traps to finish.
And fin.
Cloakwood had little of interest to us. We only stopped to kill Spiders, and traveled most of the time invisible. That pretty much sums up the Davaeorn battle as well - he did run a lot, but was finally cornered near the Slime there. Barin, Edwin and Viconia spent their entire time invisible in this accursed mine, while Korgan chased the mage under a Pro Magic scroll. Took a while, but it's done. To BG.

Barin, 2nd and final BG1 update
I have nothing interesting on his city adventures.
Zip, nada, nothing. Throne was looted under invisibility. Minor stuff I usually do was of no importance.
Hence, we meet Barin back in Candlekeep - I avoid battle vs Prat, but decide to tackle the spiders. A slight RL distraction almost saw Kagain potentially turned to stone, but I remembered just in time.
Back in the city, Slythe tasted the hammer (Pro Magic scroll used), Krystin summoned some Ogres and dissapeared forever. All the better, since she can be a pain to deal with regardless of Pro Magic.
Duchal Palace - Edwin threw Chaos in the midst of them. Three saved, including the mage.
So he threw another one.
That got them.
I wanted to skip over Maze/Underground battles, but Edwin was very close to level 9. And I wanted it badly - so I cleared out every undead creature on the map. Barely got there. The only real expence was this potion of Clarity Kagain had to use to prevent Chaos from disabling him.
As for Sarevok, with three Cloudkills, this was rather short, and not really dangerous. Both Semaj and Tazok died to clouds.
Predicable ploy indeed. Barin took care of skeletons with Acid Arrows.
Angelo - Hold, as usual. Two attempts.
With Diramid and Sarevok the only two alive, we summon some fodder. Diramid goes down first.
And Sarevok dies to dog bites. ![]()
Barin will enter BG2 part soon.

Euphonia, Half-Elven Skald (7th and final update)
After their escape from Candlekeep, the party were hesitant to return to Baldur's Gate where they were knew they would have the Fist after them. They came up with the regrettable idea of visiting Durlag's haunted Tower, to retieve an enchanted dagger for the Dwarf Hurgan Stoneblade.
Kirinhale the Succubus gave the band a first warning. She caused a lot of confusion by (repeatedly) charming the three ladies, but eventually Ajantis and Kivan, who were immune to charms, slew the demoness.
The chess game. Although the party metagamed by quaffing potions of absorption, they weren't prepared to deal with the chess pieces. Garrick and Euphonia were invisible, playing their songs, and Imoen was invisible as well, detecting illusions (because the King would use invisibility-type spells). Two simultaneous Flamestrikes scorched Branwen.

Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief - take 14 (update 2)
Day 19 (20 Mirtul) - Nashkell Carnival
To cheer Dyara up a little bit Xan had brought her to the carnival but it is was raining all along. So Dyara just bought a potion of invisibility, an oil of speed and some turnips and grain. To get out of their wet clothes they went to Nashkell inn where of course they were awaited by Nimbul.
Dyara had been very quiet the whole day so Xan did all the talking. With all the soldiers around Dyara knew there wasn't any danger so they didn't really prepared for the fight to come. And as usual (and besides Xan getting hit by fear and by a magic missile) everything went well.
Searching the body Dyara found a letter signed by a 'Tazok'. That ringed a bell as also the letter she had found on Mulahey were signed by that name.
After a well deserved rest in the inn they left towards Beregost.
Day 20 (21 Mirtul)
On their way their they stumbled on two ogre-ladies and their supposed-to-be diner David Jansen but with turnips and grain Xan saved the day (and David Jansen).
Later then Xan really impressed Dyara when a slew a bandit with his moonblade and only a few moments later another bandit with a bullet.
Dyara met with Left and he told her about three other visitors he had in the past and that Dyara reminded him of them.
At Feldepost Inn Tranzig was cut into pieces, thereafter they were hired by the bard Garrick to help his mistress Silke. However this Silke turned out to be a villain so Dyara and Xan changed sides. Again Xan proved to be a master with his moonblade.
Within the last days Dyara had changed her opinion about Xan completely. At first she didn't really knew what to think of the Greycloak elf and his pessimistic attitude. But then he was so kind to her, comforted her after she had to kill Maneira. Also he had turned out to be very valuable companion in combat both with his spells and his blade (so far at least).
While they had been on the road from Nashekll north to Beregost the weather had changed and it had become really warm so Dyara had slipped into one of her short mage dresses and more than once she had felt Xan's gaze upon her looking her up and down but blushing and averting his gaze whenever he saw Dyara returning a look. Dyara hat felt both exited and flattered.
My plans for Dyara actually were the Coran romance so bandit camp and cloakwood would have been next but Dyara seemed to have chosen otherwise: it's the Xan romance - for now at least, the sword coast can be a dangerous place, especially for mages with only a few hitpoints.
As suggested by Berrun Ghastkill, Dyara had brought an example of the poisoned ore to Taerom Fuiruim. The smith then had asked Dyara to show the vial of mysterious liquid to Thalanyr at High Hedge.
And so Dyara and Xan were on their way to Thalantyr, the bard Garrick following them, probably he wanted to write a ballade about Dyara. Especially Dyara didn't really payed attention where they were going and thus they stumbled into a cave bear.
Xan failed to charm the bear (not sure if 'dire charm' actually works on a bear?) and went into melee fight (I definitely should adjust Xan's AI script) while Dyara lost in thought, still wearing that flimsy dress and no armor spell active just stood there watching the scene. Nevertheless besides Xan getting injured a little bit everything went out well when Dyara finally decided to join the fight.
From Thalantyr Dyara bought some nice ioun stones, a deep red one (+1 DEX) for herself and a white one (+20 lore) for Xan.
They were about to leave the area when they were attacked by a pack of wild dogs immediately joind by a bunch of skeletons. Again they weren't really prepared for a battle (there had been always just one dog or just one skeleton when Dyara had been here on her own), Dyara tried to cast a shield spell but got interrupted twice (she had given both the boots and the belt to Xan). Again Xan (still using the default script) dashed at the skeletons but backed out to let Dyara finish the skeletons using her wand of fire.
I had serious word with Dyara then, telling her that she should focus on her job. Otherwise I would strip Xan's items and send him into a bear cave all on his own. She begged me not to do such an evil thing and she promised to amend.
Since Garrick hadn't been any help in combat Dyara send him to the Friendly Arm Inn where he could work on his new ballade. Also Dyara had just re-equipded the ankheg plate armor when...
They decided to (just) rest before venturing further.
Day 21 (22 Mirtul)
At the shipwreck's coast they freed Shoal from Droth without too many problems (Xan got hit by a lightning spell but survived). Dyara gained a new helm and also two level-ups.
Dyara 48017 XP, 278 kills, Greater Basilisk, F(5)/M(5)/T(6), 46/54 HP (10 points into find traps, 15 into detect illusions)
Xan 1100 XP, 6 kills, Silke, Enchanter(6), 17/24 HP
They also had to fight some sirines (no problems this time) and a bunch of brutes (ogre berserkers, half-ogres and ogrillons). Dyara got hurt a little bit but the surgeon was close-by.
Day 22 (23 Mirtul)
At the lighthouse area everything went well too. Sil recognised Dyara as the nice person she is and gave are a magical cloak as present. Inside Black Alaric's Cave Dyara tried to poison the flesh golems using the biting arrows she had collected from the sirines but failed each time. Nevertheless in a hide and seek game the golems stood no chance and were killed easily while Xan waited outside the cave. Part of the treasure was an old tome Dyara identified as manual of bodily health. Dyara was about to give it Xan but he declined saying he would probably had to read eight of these tomes so you could actually see a difference. So Dyara read it herself and with her hitpoints raised by 5 she felt much healthier immediately.
Xan had gained his first level-up:
Dyara: 70425 XP, 326 kills, Greater Basilisk, F(5)/M(5)/T(6), 51/59 HP
Xan: 1585 XP, 14 kills, Silke, Enchanter(7), 18/28 HP (only ONE hitpoints gained)
They tried to rest in the cave but were interrupted, so following the coast line they travelled south to Archaeologocal Site.
Day 23 (24 Mirtul)
With Xan now her regulary companion Dyara decided to hand over the evermemory ring to Xan while she got the Batalista's Passport ring in return. After chosing their spells they rested for eight hours. And in the morning...
For the morning work-out Ba'ruk and his kobold friends were chosen. Xan gained some melee practise.
Wasting lots of healing potions, an oil of speed, a potion of defense, one charge of the wand of monster summoning, some charges of a wand of frost, lots of charges of a wand of missiles the Doomsayer got killed. At least Xan has now a new 'most powerful vanquished'.
With Captain Brage they returned to Nashkell.
