Thanks dude.
Nobody got chunked so far
.
Edwin is an idiot
...... Just kidding his ac is ok because of Davaeorn robe and armor braces, and when hes out of spells but hasted I just send 'em all in, Ankhegs only have 1, or 1.5 apr. so every little bit counts.
Cheers!
Edit: Robe and braces dont stack... So yeah I guess he really is reckless this guy ![]()

Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief - take 14 (update 4)
Day 34 (5 Kythorn)
Dispatching the Ogre mage and the other mage Lendarn gained Dyara another fighter level:
Dyara: 100949 XP, 576 kills, Greater Basilisk, F(6)/M(5)/T(6), 53/63 HP (6th weapon point went into Single-Weapon-Style for another -1 to AC)
Xan: 11557 XP, 76 kills, Doomsayer, Enchanter(7), 18/28 HP
Later they were forced to fight an undead knight. They took an ancient armor from his now even more dead body. Xan saw no reason to go deeper into the dungeon and so they left once they had found an exit leading them into the basement of the winery. After being rewarded Dyara and Xan left the halfling village...
(Just some silly 'love' talk - skip if you don't like, you had been warned)
... and turned south.
While scouting the area Dyara saw another group of bounty hunters looking for her. They hadn't rested after exploring the firewine ruins but Dyara thought it has to do without (mirror images, resist fear or minor spell deflection) - after all Xan still all his dire charm spells ready. So with only protection from evil cast on them they approached the group (just Molkar to be more precisely).
They used their usual combat tactic... Molkar got dire charmed...
... while Dyara tried to poison the cleric Drakar (but failed). Molkar then was forced to attack Drakar but became victim of a rigid thinking spell while Xan wasted a sleep spell (I thought it works up to level 5 - should have read the description)...
... but it didn't matter as their enemies were occupied with themselfes. Halkar died, Xan then charmed Morvin while Dyara poisoned Halacan.
Both Dyara and Xan then attacked Halacan while Molkar (still charmed but also affected by rigid thinking) attacked the charmed Morvin who got also attacked by Halacan.
Then Halacan died, Morvin (hostile again) attacked Molkar only to become dire charmed for the second time...
... but went hostile again when he was attacked by Dyara. Molkar, hostile now but still affected by rigid thinking, attacked Morvin. Morvin tried to attack Xan but was killed before he could reach the mage. Now Molkar, finally himself again, tried to attack Xan but became poisoned by Dyara...
... and finally killed by Xan. Without having lost a single hitpoint they looted the dead bodies.
"Where to go next", Xan asked, "south to Firewine Bridge or Ulcaster?" "You'll lead the way", Dyara said smiling at him. "Ulcaster is it then", Xan said putting an arm around her.
From a book Dyara knew that around 200 years ago the conjurer Ulcaster had founded a school of wizardry near Beregost but the school was destroyed roughly 80 years later by Calishite mages. They were surprised by a rainstorm but found shelter in the dungeon below the ruins. The dungeon was rather small and besides an old book, a wand of fire, a potion of genius and some other potions there wasn't anything interesting.
However drinking that potion of genius and a potion of mind focusing Xan was able to scribe some spells ('Blindness', 'Grease', 'Horror', 'Invisibility', 'Resist Fear', 'Dispel Magic', 'Hold Person' and 'Skull Trap') into his spellbook (to my surprise actually because there should have been still a 15% chance of failure - for all spells but 'Hold Person'). Also Xan gained a level-up.
Dyara: 110631 XP, 626 kills, Greater Basilisk, FmT 6/5/6, 53/63 HP
Xan: 13521 XP, 86 kills, Doomsayer, Enchanter(8), 19/32 HP (*sigh*)
Since it was still raining outside they decided to rest.
Day 35 (6 Kythorn)
When they left the dungeon it was night. At least the rain had stopped but a ghost was roaming the ruins now. To their relief the ghost was rather friendly actually, he only took that old book and merged the ancient armor and the idol into a cursed sword.
In the distance they saw the Firewine Bridge but instead of going there directly they decided to save some time by returning to Gullykin to use the shortcut through the ruins. For such a smart decision they were rewarded with lots of 'arrows of fire +2'.
At the Firewine Bridge Dyara (with 'Mirror Image' and AC -9 vs. evil slashers) challenged Meilum earning her the 'Legacy of Masters' gloves. Xan however wasn't thrilled when he saw the gash on her arm. "Just a flesh wound", Dyara smiled, healing herself by laying her hand on the wound (twice).
By scouting the dried-up river bed Dyara saw a female mage with a mad expression on her face. Better be careful (this time) Dyara thought so they made a few preparations...
Xan had two invisibility potions ready while Dyara drank a potion of frost giant strength and then casted 'shield', 'prot. from evil', 'resist fear' and 'minor spell deflection'. With her items she was well protected vs. elemental damage (besides acid) and had an AC of -8 vs. evil slashers (also potion of invisibility and oil of speed ready).
After summoning some gnolls Dyara approached Carsa. The idea was that Xan should dispel Kahrk's protections but he was too far away (he had to be away because I didn't wanted 19 hp Xan to become the target of Kahrk's spells) to do this quickly (there was a very slim chance anyway for this to work because Kahrk was 4 levels higher than Xan - but I didn't thought of that when I planned the fight).
But Dyara isn't a figher/mage/thief for nothing... as soon as she realised the problem she tried to dispel at least the mirror image herself by using her 'detect illusion' ability. And it worked (with a lot of luck I guess because there was only a 30% chance) immediately...
With the mirror images gone Dyara tried to poison Kahrk and again luck was on her side as she hit twice and Kahrk failed the second saving throw...
Kahrk had wasted all his spells on the gnolls and was still occupied fighting them.
Knowing that the battle was won Dyara decided to not waste anymore arrows and switched to her long sword (and from 'Dale's Protector' to 'Legacy of the Masters') and after another two hits the Ogre Mage was dead...
They left the river bed and crossed the old bridge. On the other side Dyara saw in the distance a dark tower perhaps a day's march away ...
"What's that tower over there?" Dyara asked, pointing south west. "Perhaps we could go there, it doesn't seem too far away."
"What tower?" Xan asked trying to hide a sudden bout of nervousness. "I don't see a tower!"
"Oh come on, there!" Dyara stepped behind Xan. Gazing over his shoulder she pointed in the direction of the tower with her left arm while with her right hand she made Xan to look in that direction. "Do you see it now?"
"Ah, you're talking about that tower... just an ordinary tower I think. Doesn't look very interesting."
"But isn't it..."
"No!"
"But of.."
"No!"
"Yes, it is..."
"No, it.."
"... Durlag's Tower!" Dyara said completing her sentence while she pressed both hands on Xan's mouth silencing him.
Xan sighed, he turned around, putting his arms around her and looking her deep into the eyes he said: "Yes, it's Durlag's Tower. But we can't go..."
"But why?"
"It's too... it's far too dangerous! It is said that the evil lurking in the tower and the dungeon below is beyond imagination. The whole tower is protected by the deadliest traps no-one can survive. It's..." Xan sighed again as he saw Dyara's eyes were shining more and more with every word he said. Xan knew, resistance was futile, Dyara would keep on and on and to his very surprise a part of Dyara's enthusiasm had seemed to infect him. "Very well then, we'll go there. But you have to promise me something: first, we don't put ourself into real danger. If there's a situation we cannot handle, we leave... immediately."
"And second?
"I decide when this happens!"
Now it was at Dyara to sigh. She was about argue, but she felt Xan was very serious about it. "I promise. If you say we leave we'll leave. I won't dissent. That I swear by our love."

Great update Dyara. Love Xan's charms! What level is he though, 8 you say? His XP seems much lower.
Also congrats on defeating Kahrk, a very tough opponent!
Eren is doing well too, Golden. I'm glad to see that! I'd repeat Aasim's words, to try and be cautious not to get characters chunked, but I believe it's just your style to do things the way you do.
Lenhardt, Gnome Cleric/Illusionist, 4th update
Day 37:
Another tenday has passed and I haven't updated this journal. I always postpone this (I find my spellbooks more interesting than my journal), and yet I do feel satisfied each time I write in here. Keeping a record of my party's exploits makes them 'official', and lasting. (Though I could lie or exaggerate and who'd know the difference?)
After our evasion of dangerous creatures in the Lighthouse Area, we weren't so lucky further north. Quayle and I had to draw heavily on our spell repertoire to keep us safe against differnt types of Ogres and Wolves,
At any rate, the party traveled further north to the Ankheg-infested area that Imoen and I had visited before. Thanks to E's magical ring I had plenty of Sleep spells, so I thought I would just put the giant insects to rest, so that we could dispatch them without risk. Initially this worked well enough,
Both Imoen and Quayle were more dead than alive. [Note B.: as a Bhaalspawn, and thus a non-resurrectable being, Imoen can't die in this playthrough, at least not until Spellhold because there would be no logical explanation for her return in SoA.] I had to haul my friends back to the Friendly Arm Inn, a few hours from where I found myself. To relieve myself of the burden of their packs, I entered an Ankheg nest, battled my way past three or four Ankhegs (relying on the precious Wand of Paralyzation and on a summoned Skeleton), and stored most of Quayle's and Imoen's belonngings in a small treasure hoard. (At least everything would be safe from bandits and scavengers I reckoned.) I found the corpse of a young man in a state of decomposition, no longer resurrectable. It was the lost son of Brun, a husbandman we had met on the farmland near the Ankheg nest. I brought Brun the body, and helped him bury his son. I also gave him 100 GP to tide him over. I then asked Brun to help me haul Imoen and Quayle back to the FAI for treatment by Gellana Mirrorshade, and he agreed. Better prepared, with three Skeletons, and with my companions more cautious this time around, we returned to successfully clear the Ankheg nest (and to reclaim my companions' stored goods and to fetch some loot).
Day 47:
Imoen's focus on her arcane studies created a vacancy in our party: we needed someone who could scout and was skilled with locks and traps. We decided to visit the fabled Firewine Ruins, a place where adventurers like ourselves were relatively likely to be found, we thought. Invisibly we walked the Firewine plains. We ignored small bands of Ogres and bandits, with the intention of returning later to make those plains a safer place. We did intervene when a pack of Xvarts were trying to kill a farmer's cow.
With our new companion we trekked to Durlag's Tower, another place that we thought would attract adventurers. We met but one, Rigilio, a human Thief, but he had no interest in traveling with us. The tower was full of traps, and dangerous creatures (we spotted various Ghasts for example), so we didn't stay long. I did read a tome containing a dry analysis of legal battles, historic events, government policies, philosophical treatises, and theories of magic and metaphysics. As such this wouldn't deserve mentioning here, but when I finished reading I was able to cast another tier 3 spell, so I suspect the tome held some kind of powerful enchantment. Unfortunately it dissolved when I closed it.
Our new band has been on the road most of the time, and our travels have been largely uneventful though there have been two notable exceptions: in Beregost we Silenced and slew a Bard that attacked us after we refused to kill three innocent men for her,
Now I'm not the party treasurer, Alora and Imoen have filled that role, so I can't tell for sure, but I was surprised about the amount of gold we had and all the valuable items we could afford. Our prized possessions now include a suit of Shadow Armor (Alora), a suit of Caster's Chain (Quayle) [note B.: Alora stole this AC 5 armor at the Nashkel Carnival], the Claw of Kazgaroth with all kinds of protective properties (myself), a Shield Amulet as improved by Thalantyr (permanent AC 4 and +1 to saves when equipped, myself), a Robe of the Good Archmagi (Imoen), and Cloak of Displacement (myself) and a Returning Frost Dart (Imoen) we bought in the fishing village of Ulgoth's Beard after a tip from Alora. [Note B.: The party hadn't spent much gold on items up till then; I think only Iou Stones. In Nashkel, Alora stole other goods apart from the Caster's Chain, and sold them to Erdane the fence near Durlag's Tower, furnishing the gold for the above-mentioned purchases.]

Lenhardt, Gnome Cleric/Illusionist, 5th (very brief) update
Day 54:
We traveled south from Ulgoth's Beard, although we made a detour around the vast Cloakwood (Kivan's recommendation, those woods are apparently very dangerous). On the northcoast we helped a kinsman of Kivan, the Elf Keth'sim Dwin'anea, fight three Sahuagin that had come for him after their Malenti slave had refused to kill him.
Note Blackraven: I'm going on a nice little trip to the country with my girlfriend tomorrow and won't be back until next weekend. I don't think I'll be online much (if at all). This mini-installment is mainly for myself, to know exactly what Lenhardt's status is / plans are, i.e. rescuing/recruiting Dynaheir, clearing the Nashkel Mines, maybe getting tank Minsc in Kivan's place.
Wishing everyone the best of luck with their playthroughs, especially Alesia and Grond0 who are well on their way to Amelyssan... show her who's the boss ok? ![]()

I'm curious, what's up with Draconis? I haven't played non-SCS game in ages, why is he so hard?
It's a lot of things added up together:
- he uses remove magic a lot, so it's difficult to keep a full range of buffs for many characters.
- PFMW can make him difficult to target.
- constantly spawning invisible stalkers can be hard to deal with (though it is possible for solo characters to use those to their advantage).
- if you get him in trouble he will go invisible, move away rapidly and heal himself.
- his haste effect makes him hard to keep away from and he's pretty vicious in melee.
- a single character can be hit multiple times by acid breath at once, so even characters with partial protection are vulnerable.
- he has a nasty habit of using his dragon abilities at the right time. For instance I've lost count of the number of times I've used a GWW the instant before Draconis sticks in a wing buffet.

I that about sums it up Grond0 - my solo battles with him are always hellacious fights, and even my parties have been forced to retreat to try again.
EDIT: The other thing is he often is invisible/improved invisibility etc. as well as spell turning, so trying to breach him can be quite difficult to get off successfully.

Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief - take 14 (update 5)
Day 36 (7 Kythorn)
At midnight they reached Durlag's Tower. From Erdane they bought some potions and also some bullets for Xan while they sold all the loot they had collected in the past days.
The two battle horrors went down easily - Dyara got hit only twice (on a 20) and lost 13 hp only. Also a Doppleganger, a Greater Doppleganger and two Doom Guards stood no chance.
They entered Durlag's Tower then but the entry level was a big disappointment (for Dyara) as there was no treasure, no traps and no monsters.
On the next level all the ghasts were killed by fire arrows. Fighting the basiliks on the roof gained Dyara her final two level-ups:
Dyara: 155806 XP, 687 kills, Greater Basilisk, F(6)/M(6)/T(7), 59/69 HP (max HP finally, 5 into find trap (=70), 20 into detect illusions (=50))
Xan: 13621 XP, 88 kills, Doomsayer, Enchanter(8), 19/32 HP
Xan was already very tired (even if he hadn't done anything but casting prot. from petrification on Dyara once - btw it seems the spell raises the Open Lock skill... by 1), also Dyara hadn't any spells left so they decided to rest on the first level near the exit.
On the third level Dyara stumbled upon some sort of ghost who talked to her even if he couldn't see her... at first he mistook her for Durlag himself but corrected his mistake and became hostile... but still he couldn't see her so Dyara just left him alone - no unnecessary risks Xan had said. In a small chapel Dyara found an old tome protected by a trap Dyara couldn't disarm - the trap went off but nothing happened (looked it up with NI: difficulty is 100 and it's a dire charm trap - but you all already knew that I'm sure
Eventually Daital attacked Dyara (or was it the other way round
Day 37 (8 Kythorn)
Besides Xan nearly getting killed by the first trap down there...
... most things (especially the Greater Doppelgangers) went pretty well...
Only the skeleton warriors were causing real problems for they were cutting through Dyara's ankheg plate armor (plus girdle of Urnst: AC -12 vs. slashing) as if it were made of cheese. But with lots of healing potions and Xan's help the first one went down. The second one already was much easier as Xan had drank a potion of strength and Dyara an oil of speed.
After fighting the mustard jellies Xan gained his final level-up:
Dyara: 194736 XP, 711 kills, Greater Basilisk, F(6)/M(6)/T(7), 59/69 HP
Xan: 17621 XP, 89 kills, Doomsayer, Enchanter(9), 22/36 HP (3 HP gained, one more than on his last two level-ups - together).
After killing the last skeleton warrior (again with lots of trouble) they were able to concentrate on the riddles... they weren't very difficult but somehow they felt that the real difficulties would start once the last riddle was solved.
Xan just casted invisibility on himself and moved to a save place while Dyara quaffed some potion (frost giant strength, heroism and speed) and summoned some war dogs then. After giving the bottle of wine to Love she went invisible.
Next she tried to lure Fear into a skull trap but that of course was a really bad idea (stupid, you knew Fear's a ghoul and you knew he had a ranged attack)... it didn't took long and Dyara was held and Fear started to bash her to death. Xan was far away (in the room with the wine press) so he quaffed an oil of speed first, ran into the well room and then casted 'dispel magic' an Dyara. Just in time...
Protected by a potion of freedom now Dyara plus Xan were able to slay Fear... one down, three to go.
The remaining three warders hid behind the well.
Then Xan tried to dire charm Pride but failed and got hit very badly. An potion of invisibility saved his life. He went back into the room with the wine press but Love did follow him while Pride waited outside. So the three reaming warders were seperated. As Xan still had the Elves Bane girdle he went into the engine room and threw the girdle 'over the wall' into the well room where Dyara was able to catch it. Love however had followed Xan into the engine room and was blocking him now.
Dyara than killed Avarice...
... and Pride with the help of some summoned gnolls. Three down, one to go.
One of the surviving gnolls was send to attack Love so Xan could escape into the well room. Then Dyara lured Love into the well room while Xan summoned some gnolls. Against such a superiority Love stood no chance and went down easily.
On one of the dead warders they found a ward stone that opened the cover of the well so a way further down became visible. They went down just to take a look but without touching anything, only taking some scrolls and potions, they left as Xan was really tired and Dyara hadn't any spells left. They went outside and decided to leave the rest of Durlag's Tower for another day - Xan was really happy about that.
Day 38 (9 Kythorn)
They arrived at Nashkell an hour after midnight. After selling their loot they went for the inn. Before resting Xan scribed some of the spells they had found in Durlag's Tower (Chaos, Confusion, Feeblemind, Greater Malison and Haste, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Monster Summoning II and III) and failed none (with INT 21, I wonder if the -15% penalty actually exists). They were too tired for anything else so they just slept till 10 o'clock in the morning. In the evening they arrived at Beregost where Dyara bought some biting arrows, the shadow armor+3 and the full plate mail (only to find another one only a short time later). The latter was only slightly better than her ankheg plate mail and much heavier but after all her problems with the skeleton warriors she knew that increasing AC by just 1 might make a big difference. Not sure why she bought the shadow armor though, perhaps she liked the look.
Day 39 (10 Kythorn)
On their search for the bandit camp they came to Larswood. At some sort of druid grove they were attacked by Osmadi and two bears. While the druid got killed quickly...
... the two bears decided to make Xan their lunch...
...after a while Dyara became tired of running after the bears (who were running after Xan) so she switched to her bow and the bears went down quickly...
... much to Xan's relieve...
Corsone howver proved to be the real evildoer here so a fitting fate befell him.
While searching the wood for bandit activity...
... they allowed Baeloth to stay with them... for a while at least. Xan tried his new chaos spell on some bandits...
... but Dyara still liked the dire charm spell better...
Day 40 (11 Kythorn)
From Larswood they went north to Peldvale where they dispatched another group of bandits.
Baeloth wasn't really happy in the group as he hadn't any spells left and he had run out of darts pretty soon. But perhaps he was just sick (or jealous
Dyara and Xan however decided to waste no more time and to not rest until the bandit camp was found.
Later they saved Viconia from getting killed by a flaming fist mercenary. As the group now was much too large for Dyara's liking they split up.
In the evening they found the bandit camp.
Day 41 (12 Kythorn)
In the moring they started their attack on the bandit camp. Ardenor Crush died first...
... and Taugosz Khosann was next...
... while still they had some moments just for themselves ...
Garglax died in his cave ...
... and finally Dyara and Xan were ready to enter the big tent...
Xan got poisoned by Hakt but Dyara returned the favor to Venkt immediately...
... after getting rid of the poison Xan casted 'chaos' on Britik and Raemon. In the meantime Dyara had killed Hakt and Venkt as well...
... and it didn't took long and the rest of the gang was dead as well (perhaps Dyara and Xan had been a little bit 'overdressed' for the battle) ...
They released the prisoner Ender Sai and gained the information about an iron mine deep within Cloakwood.
