Thanks for the congrats BR, so far so good. I hope Scintilla joins Eren soon.

On the chaos: Angelo was targetting invisible Eren DIRECTLY.. he literally turned towards him like he spotted him, walked up to him, and cast: Chaos-Eren. I doublechecked if Eren was invisible and he was. So something's definetely fishy..

This thing is easy to roleplay like maybe Angelo heard him or noticed him or something, just like when enemies follow an invisible or hidden char around the map, but still..

Cheers!

@Golden, hmm that sirect targeting of Chaos on Invisible Eren is dubious indeed.
I've had that happen with Confusion as well, but installs differ. Glad that it didn't have any unwanted consequences.

Thanks for yiur good wishes. They must have heard by the no-reload gods ;)

Scintilla, Gnome Cleric/Illusionist (third and final BG1 update)

In the city Scintilla procured a number of magical items for the Shadow Thieves and a Haalruan mage associated with them. The mage betrayed her, but unfortunately (for him), he hadn't noticed the Gnome's Wand of Fire before he attacked. He dropped a scroll of Fireshield: Blue.

Spoiler
She also defeated a fighter in the Low Lantern inn with Magic Missiles and Wand Scorchers, which earned her a pair of Gauntlets of Ogre Power.
Spoiler
She convinced the wizard Ragefast to release his Nymph, before she had spoken with his rival Ramazith, meaning she would never meet and slay the latter for his goodies.

Two Iron Throne lackeys, Marek and Lathander poisoned her, but thankfully a cure and a Tome of Wisdom were found on time.

Spoiler
A Knock spell she bought at the Sorcerous Sundries and memorized four times, made a visit to the Silvershield estate a lucrative affair, and a number of commissions for the Flaming Fist (cleaning out the Seven Suns, dealing with a sewer-dwelling Ogre Mage) were equally profitable.

At the Iron Throne she dispatched a number of guards (relying heavily on Fireballs again, though Diyab and Aasim were dealt with in single combat, Cloudwulfe was brought to near death by Confused Gardush, and the latter was Held before Scintilla felled him), but learnt that the actual Throne leaders were in Candlekeep.

Spoiler
(I then made the mistake of having Scintilla rest to ID a number of items after she had informed Duke Eltan. It meant that Chapter 7 had started, and she got a redundant DUHM where I wanted a Divine Wrath Bhaalpower. :( Reputation management did see her acquire the Divine Wrath power in Chapter 8.)

The Flaming Fist sent Scintilla back to Candlekeep to seek out the Iron Throne leaders. She soon found herself arrested and falsely accused of killing the Iron Throne leaders. Tethtoril helped her escape, via catacombs below Candlekeep that were plundered with anti-trap buffs and Knocks.
Back in Baldur's Gate, wand summons and scorchers allowed Scintilla to dispatch two assassins, Krystin and Slythe.

Spoiler
On the latter's corpse she found an invitation to Sarevok's coronation as Grand Duke. This Sarevok, she now understood, had used the Iron Throne for personal motives. She also knew that he was the one who had wanted her dead all along. She rested at the Blushing Mermaid inn and went with the invitation and an incirminating letter to the Ducal Palace for the ceremony.

There she summoned four Skeletons, cast PfEvil 10' Radius, Strength of One, buffed with violet potion, agility, fortitude, mind focusing, defense, magic protection, and power, cast Haste and Defensive Harmony, and confronted Sarevok and his Greater Doppelganger cronies. Most of the shapeshifting creatures were Slowed.

Spoiler
Very soon after all Greater Doppelgangers lay dead on the ground, allowing Scintilla to present the evidence against Sarevok.
Spoiler
Sarevok enraged but was spirited away by a wizard. Belt showed Scintilla the way. Invisibly she sped through a maze below the Thieves Guild, past an adventuring party she didn't want to deal with, into a Temple of Bhaal, Sarevok's hiding place. There she took out Tazok with her sling,
Spoiler
Angelo in melee combat with her Ashideena and with the help of plenty of wand summons,
Spoiler
Diarmid with her sling again,
Spoiler
Semaj with wand scorchers,
Spoiler
and Sarevok himself with a combination of sling bullets and scorchers.
Spoiler
She notified Belt, who sent her to Amn to secure peace between Baldur's Gate and Amn. (Scintilla leveled up in Baldur's Gate to 8/9 Cleric/Illusionist, quaffed a Potion of Magic Blocking to cancel the effect of the violet potion, and rested so that she would have all her spells memorized at the beginning of SoA.)

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 76 - (update 3)

Deana, half-elf transmuter (Grond0) & Rhunn, half-elf sorcerer (Gate70)

Today's session started with a trip to the coast to find some sirines.  The first group survived long enough for one of them to outlast the Greenstone Amulet charge and confuse Deana just before it died.

Spoiler

That left Rhunn with a slightly tricky task of shepherding Deana around trying to keep her out of trouble.  He did that pretty well, though got hit a couple of times for his pains.

Spoiler

There was a pretty similar situation with Sil, but this time the final sirine failed to hit Deana before dying.

Spoiler

Deana was the only one with magic ammunition so did a bit of running and slinging of the golems while Rhunn ran interference; the final golem was easy as it kept trying to get through a narrow corridor which Rhunn was invisibly blocking.

Spoiler

At the bandit camp spells worked through the bandits pretty easily, while Taugosz was a victim of the wand of paralysation.  Inside the tent a stinking cloud put Venkt down, allowing him to quickly be finished off.

Spoiler

Britik and Hakt were both paralysed, leaving Raemon pretty helpless.

The Cloakwood was passed through peacefully until the duo arrived at the mine.  Needing a few more XP to get up to level 7, Rhunn went to find another opponent

Spoiler

before tackling Drasus & co.  The mages there were blinded, but an attempt to do the same to Genthore resulted in Deana being spotted by Drasus.  A quick dash in and out of a shed left him behind while Genthore was sorted out.  Drasus would then probably have struggled to absorb spell damage, but didn't get the chance to try chasing Deana anyway when he became another paralysation victim.

Most of the encounters in the mine were avoided using invisibility.  At Davaeorn's level the battle horrors were pulled back singly and magic missiled before the duo used invisibility to have a rest.  Back downstairs and Davaeorn ignored a web and stinking cloud, but took significant damage from a couple of skull traps cast from out of sight before being finished off by MMM.

Spoiler

Stats:

Deana, transmuter 7, 45 HPs (incl. 12 from familiar), 105 kills

Rhunn, sorcerer 7, 32 HPs, 127 kills, 1 death

Congrats Blackraven - hope Scintilla does just as well in Amn.

@Golden, hmm that sirect targeting of Chaos on Invisible Eren is dubious indeed.
I've had that happen with Confusion as well, but installs differ. Glad that it didn't have any unwanted consequences.

Even if the chaos looked like it was being directly aimed at Eren, that may not have been the case.  The use of area spells cast in their own vicinity is a common tactic used by SCS mages, so it's not a good idea to hang around them invisibly unless you're immune to chaos, fear, wiltings etc (doing that may result in them using true sight, oracle etc anyway).

Thanks Grond0! I hope so too :D

I'll try to be careful and roleplay Scintilla as an un-Gnomishly incurious little lady.

As to Chaos and other AoE spells cast on or toward invisible characters, according to Golden28 his battle log stated Angelo - cast Chaos: Eren. That does seem to suggest that Eren was directly targeted no?

Yes Blackraven! you did it. Now were both doing Amn, lets try to survive eh, maybe well see you in an inn, Ill buy you an ale ;).

Indeed. Eren was standing in the right bottom corner invisible, doing nothing. Angelo walked up to him about 5 or 6 paces, looked directly at him, and cast chaos at him, not in the vicinity. It hit Eren directly and confused him. He didnt actually became visible until he tried to hit Diarmid. I've never ever seen this happen, I guess it was a one time occurance, something to do with the SCS scripting of Angelo as an endboss.. I dont know.

Cheers!

@Blackraven: Good luck to you (and Grimwald, Grond0/Gate70, Alesia as well). I just hope I've finished before you do :D.

@Golden: Congratulations :).

I am sure that you will finish before me. Firstly because RL keeps getting in the way. (Will be out on the streets with Street Angels 21:30 - 4:00a.m. tonight for instance. That has a knock on effect for about three days. :(

However RL adventures have a bit more meaning to them. :)

Diary of Sapper Steelskin

Headed south. Got Lord Foreshadow's ring and got the guards at the mine to kill Greywolf. No charm needed.

Went for the reward from Oublek.

Charmed him, which is just as well as we were attacked by a baby wyvern!

The guards killed the wyvern and that is where it got confusing as I was then accused of killing a boy's pet. I hadn't killed anything in the entire game!!!

Things got sorted out and I returned to Beregost after picking up all the goodies that I could find.

In Beregost I was attacked by Karlat. Naturally I ran away and in an Inn I charmed Algernon at the third attempt. Karlat killed him. I took the cloak and ran followed by Karlat. I escaped him and one of the Karlats got into a fight with Silke. Karlat won. Karlat had previously duplicated himself whilst going through a door. Eventually using various charm spells including Lord Foreshadow's Ring and Algernon's Cloak, all the enemies were dead apart from on spider which I kept alive (In case)

Heading westward, I had to use various charm spells to deal with a gnoll problem. I found Perdue's Sword and headed south where I came across Bassilus. Using the Cloak of Algernon, he got charmed and we went in search of enemies. We came across Zargal. I went invisible and hordes of Hobgoblins attacked and killed Bassilus. I wanted Bassilus's possessions which were unavailable as the horde of Hobgoblins were standing on top of them. I used an ordinary charm spell and lured them away from Bassilus's body.

I lost my invisibility when I picked up his possessions and was immediately poisoned by an Elite Hobgoblin. I used a potion and ran all the way to the Lighthouse area.

Things did not go successfully there. I charmed the worgs and sent them against the sirenes. Not a good move as I have no idea what happened to them. All I know is that they aren't dead.

Used invisibility to loot the cave and then headed south. Tried to help the archaeologist. The diggers followed me outside. I charmed them one at a time and set them against tasloi. They lost. I won as I successfully finished the quest.

I then helped Brage.

So far I have not killed anyone. :) I have reached level three and I am a hero. :) I got quite a lot of gold from the emeralds, helping Brage and looting the cave. I spent it on protective gear. North of Beregost I charmed an ogre with a belt fetish. I now have his belts. :) Being poisoned by the Hobgoblins reminded me of the importance of that belt!

It is now time to look for those demons in Nashkel Mines.

Upon entering the mines, I discovered not only swarms of kobolds, but some Duerger assassins as well.

Using charm on the Duerger was helpful in that all the assassins and numerous kobolds were killed.

The problem was the sheer numbers of kobolds that engulfed me. In the end I had to flee not only the mine, but the entire area.

I rested in the Carnival area until I had recuperated.

I decided that a potion of invisibility was needed.

I was able to find both that and a potion of speed to make it more effective.

I zoomed through the mines and charmed Mulahey who was then attacked by his cohorts.

The only problem then was to get past his minions.

That proved to be the hardest task in the mines. Easy enough to kill them, but how to get past them without killing them.

Eventually managed it and escaped to Nashkel.

There I charmed Neira who was then attacked by Nimbul and killed. However the Amnish guards then killed Nimbul.

And so to Beregost. :)

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 76 - (4th and final update)

Deana, half-elf transmuter (Grond0) & Rhunn, half-elf sorcerer (Gate70)

Today's session started by arriving in Baldur's Gate.  There wasn't too much needed there, but they did:

- take on Ramazith to get his ring and the intelligence tome.

- use a stinking cloud to destroy Sunin and get a second ring of wizardry.

- poured magic damage into Jalantha in order to rescue Tremain's son.

- blinded and then stunned Larze, who didn't last long.

Spoiler

After going to buy a Robe of the Archmagi and poison dagger for Rhunn, Deana noted that the quest log referred to the poison quest despite not having talked to Marek.  To forestall any potential death from poison the duo helped Lothander and then took down Marek.  The latter did actually manage to cast a lightning bolt as a result of the MP difficulty of pausing (that's an encounter where putting autopause: enemy sighted on might be worthwhile), but Rhunn saved against the damage and survived.  Both characters got up to level 8 there.

After sneaking into the Iron Throne the duo returned to Candlekeep.  Deana was unable to learn MGoI, so mirror images were used to protect against traps.  That worked well, although Rhunn accidentally triggered the repeating lightning trap and was glad to save against the damage as his gulping of an absorption potion came too late to protect him.

Spoiler

He also courted disaster by unwarily walking into a skull trap cast earlier by Deana and not set off by phase spiders.

Spoiler

Deana wasted a spell attacking the dopplegangers before they had changed form and also found that resulted in 2 greater dopplegangers rather than 1.  They hit her several times before being killed and the duo had to rest to heal before moving on.  There were no problems with Prat & co - a stinking cloud and a couple of webs keeping all the enemies quiet while being killed.

Spoiler

Back in Baldur's Gate Rhunn couldn't resist teasing the Flaming Fist before going to find Slythe.

Spoiler

He was close to working through Rhunn's mirrors and stoneski, but ultimately found the magic damage too hot to handle.

Spoiler

At the palace some hasted summons kept some of the dopplegangers occupied while they were picked off with magic missiles.  Liia died, but Belt survived comfortably enough.

Spoiler

Rhunn used up a MGoI scroll to set off the lightning traps in the maze.  A stinking cloud and area damage then sorted out the Undercity party.

Spoiler

In the temple Rhunn, somewhat surprisingly, was successful in removing Sarevok's haste with a dispel magic.  Angelo's invisibility was also removed, but Deana was still able to sling a bullet at Sarevok and retreat before it hit to prevent anyone going hostile.  That brought Sarevok out alone and a couple of lots of summons occupied him while magic missiles savaged him and caused him to surrender.

Spoiler

Stats:

Deana, transmuter 9, 56 HPs (incl. 12 from familiar), 127 kills

Rhunn, sorcerer 9, 39 HPs, 165 kills, 1 death

Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief - take 14 (update 14 - final)

Day 140 (20 Eleint) - Thief Guild

Dyara and her two companions entered the maze. Xan casted invisibility on himself while Dyara and Alore used the shadows to sneak past the green slimes. Alora - wearing the Big Fisted Belt (Str 19, Int 6, cursed) and wielding the Shadow's Blade (despite not being proficient in short swords) then beat Dyara in a backstab contest ...

Spoiler

Later Dyara tried one of the many 'Protection From Undead' scrolls they had when she saw two skeleton warriors. It worked really good - too good actually as the fight became boring (I rarely use the green scrolls and I'm sure I've never used a prot. from undead scroll before :D). Without any problems they made their way through the maze and found the Undercity.

There they met a group of mercenaries send by the Iron Thron to investigate Sarevok but their leader Rahvin decided to attack Dyara instead. In a short 'arrow of detonation' battle Rahvin and his group perished.

Spoiler

Day 141 (21 Eleint)

In front of the old temple of Bhaal Tamoko was waiting for them but Dyara convinced her to not throw her life away.

Spoiler

Then the three entered the temple...

Xan casted Invisibility on Alora and himself while Dyara disarmed two traps on the left side of the room...

Spoiler

... and went invisible as well (using a scroll). Then she approached the altar but for some reason her brother had felt her presence and started to talk to her.

Spoiler

Dyara stepped back (with in intention to dispel Semaj mirror images while invisible and then backstab him) but unfortunately she somehow triggered a stinking cloud trap (or whatever it was) and became unconscious - not really a problem as she still was invisible but her plan was spoiled.

Dyara then summoned some hobgoblins for Semaj to waste his spells but got hit by greater malison. The good thing was that both Tazok and especially Sarevok joined the fight leaving Angelo all alone at the altar. One backstab and a second hit later Angelo was dead...

Spoiler

Dyara then tried to hide in the upper left corner but triggered the spawn of a battle horror. So another scroll of invisibility got used.

Spoiler

Xan then summoned some war dogs to distract Sarevok and used the 'maze' scroll on him.

Spoiler

With Sarevok out of the way for some time Dyara attacked Semaj while Xan summoned some hobgoblin warriors. Also Alora joined the battle shooting her arrows of biting at Semaj.

Spoiler

Semaj's spells couldn't hurt Dyara (thanks to 80% magic resistance) but killed the Battle Horror and lots of bats, also Tazok took some damage. Semaj went down ...

Spoiler

... and Tazok followed shortly after.

Spoiler

Now Dyara buffed herself ('stoneskin', 'mirror image', 'blur', 'prot. from evil', ...) and switched to her full plate mail as it was time to finally confront her brother, face to face...

Spoiler

The siblings started to batter each other but soon it became evident that Sarevok stood no chance as he only hit air, mirror images or stone skins while Dyara caused serious injuries with each attack.

Spoiler

When Sarevok was dead Dyara was relieved... relieved that it was over now, that she and her companions had survived but also she felt some sadness in her heart. Of course she knew, Sarevok was evil, he had done lots of evil things, he had killed Gorion and many other, he had tried to kill her more than once but still he had been her brother. What if all those years ago Gorion had saved Sarevok instead of her? Would their roles have been reversed? Would she lie dead on the ground here then with Sarevok bending over her perhaps thinking the same way as she did now? Dyara just wished there had been a way to save her brother...

Together with Xan and Alora Dyara returned to the surface and notified Duke Belt. Then it was time to split up. Alora wanted to stay in Baldur's Gate, Xan had to abandon Dyara for few weeks as he had to report on  his mission and to ask his surperiors' permission to leave and Dyara was send to Amn to secure peace between Baldur's Gate and Amn. On her way south she made a stop at the Friendly Arm Inn and was joined by Imoen, Klalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir...

P.S.- Amelie is going to be late to the party I'm afraid. I tried to run her through this morning but she failed at the Duchal Palace. The Dopes basically ignored her and swarmed the Dukes. Belt fell in record time. Liia outlived him, believe it or not. I may give Amelie another chance, although I'm tempted to try a different character. I finally succeeded in installing SCS v 30 on my BGII install and I'm not super-enthused about testing a new setup with a kit that I'm ambivalent about. We'll see.

Diary of Sapper Steelskin

Upon arriving at the bandit camp, I was attacked by Tazok and then Brutus Bloodthirsty and his cohorts. I spent some time discovering who was susceptible to charm and discovered it was an ogrillon and an ogre-mage. They fought well before dying, so I ran, slept, and crept into the camp.

I discovered that Taughoz was also susceptible and set him on Tazok. He won, so I healed him and set him on Brutus. he won again.

I took him to the entrance of Tazok's tent.

I went inside for the paperwork and was attacked. I used Tazok's oil of speed and fled. Taghoz took the brunt of the attack whilst I ran.

Taughoz was killed. I made no attempt to get his equipment, but fled to Cloakwood where Seniyad was killed by a tasloi..

Number of deaths to my name: Zero.

Level 4 Fighter

Level 4 Illusionist.

I am finding this run more interesting than other non-violent ones as I am trying to vary my approach. :)

Also glad of the self-imposed limit on the use of Algernon's Cloak. Using charm and Lord Foreshadow's ring is much less certain. :)

@ Wise,

My experience is a party of at least 3 should be able to slay those dopps always as long as you focus down the mages and shamans before all else.

Cheers!

I have the earlier version of Improved Dopplegangers installed. In my install, all the Dopes are identical. They get infinite insta-casts of Haste + Mirror Image. They cast Horror and their weapons apply Confusion on hit . It's easy enough for the PC to foil Horror and Confusion, but the Dukes and the Fist invariably get confused which can make a mess of things. I've tried the updated fight, and I find the newer version more predictable. I'm not inclined to say that one is harder than the other, but the worst case scenario in the older version is nasty. Sometimes the fight is trivial. At other times, it's virtually unwinnable for a solo low APR character with limited special abilities. Amelie found herself in one of those no win situations. Belt was dead before any of the Dopes had been seriously injured. Liia fell soon after. Amelie only got a few attack roll in. It was over in a flash. That can happen in my setup. It's rare, but it happens. In three experimental replays -with the exact same buffs and the exact same strategy- Amelie prevailed without difficulty. It just wasn't her day.

Anyhoo. I may give her another shot. We'll see.

Best,

A.
