Alesia, you were lucky. Once that party attacked me when I was already fighting most of the Campsite. I lost. ![]()
Just occasionally the game seems a bit unfair, but then so is life, so at least it is realistic. ![]()

Best of luck with Bargon, Aasim! And good luck with Chopper, Wise!
A.
@Wise, Aasim's character is a Barbarian, judging by the screenshot.
Good luck with your own new character ![]()

I've never seen Molkar at the Bandit Camp. In my install, the Amazonians appear outside Tazok's tent after the letters have been recovered, but I always prepare for that.
In my install, Molkar spawns into an area on first arrival sometime after Mulahey. I suppose if I were to go straight to the Bandit Camp without much travel his first opportunity could be at the camp, but I make a point of traveling to trigger his arrival.
My melee sorceress, Alastria, fought the Amazonians and the outside bandits together. She succeeded thanks in part to a Polymorph: Mustard Jelly cast, which twarted the backstabbers and the cleric spells. Fighting an SCS assassin party and the upgraded Bandit Camp is non-trivial, however. I can definitely understand why it ended a run.

Aria, Half-Elven R/C: The Cloakwood
Like most of my characters, Aria stealthed through most of the Cloakwood. Nonetheless, her two best BG1 fights occurred in the fabled forest. One was the Drasus fight. The other was a wyvern ambush.
After clearing the Bandit Camp, Aria purchased the Ring of Invisibility- mostly to thwart huge spider ambushes. Restocking her supplies at Thalantyr's left her well equipped for Davaeorn, but her bracer slot was glaringly empty.
Paying Melium a visit solved that problem. Animate Dead-> Call Lightning. Hooray for divine magic.
The spider area was traversed under Sanctuary and Free Action. Poor Chelak was left to rot once again.
At the mines, Aria wasted little time. She stealthed to Ril and then stealthed to Davaeorn. The mine master and his battle horrors were nixed with Aule's under Protection from Magic, Potion of Frost Giant Strength, and Potion of Heroism.
Then it was time for Drasus. This was a cool fight. Still running Protection from Magic, Potion of Frost Giant Strength, and a Potion of Heroism, Aria walked out of the mines nearly ready to take Drasus and his cronies down. Quaffing a Potion of Regeneration, an Oil of Speed, and a Potion of Absorption left her fully ready. Drasus engaged with his flail, while Genthore tossed his axes and the mages cast their spells.
But with Aria's AC v Blunt at -14 and her AC v Missile at -17, the warriors had little hope of making progress. And with the mages facing Protection from Magic, Aria was assured victory.
Drasus fell to a critical.
Genthore followed.
Ok: Now here was the cool part. Rezdan was chunked quickly, but Kysus stayed on the move and evaded Aria. Realizing that fighting was futile, he cast Invisibility, hoping to wait out Protection from Magic. Aria, then lacking Divination spells and summons, was left to find a way of revealing the turtling Kysus. Any ideas? A horse, of course!
Hoping to protect her equine friend, Aria charged the newly revealed but Mirror Imaged and uninjured Kysus. The situation looked dire.
But Tymora was on Mr Horsey-Horse's side: Aria's staff honed in on the real Kysus and one shotted him with a critical. Yay! And whinny!
Finally the wyvern ambush. This was fun, too. Aria had great teamwork with her summons here.
First, a skeleton blocking line was formed.
That let Aria bring the lighting.
Then, the nymph. An Aria Doom setup the nymph's disablers.
A successful Domination permitted Aria to reposition the wyvern, faciiltating range fire.
Aria then engaged in melee to help her nymph land Cause Serious Wounds.
For the finish, Aria and her nymph switched positions: the nymph engaged in melee, permitting Aria to use her sling. Done!
Since Candlekeep was uneventful (Protection from Poison for the Phase Spiders, Potion of Cloud Giant Strength->Draw on Holy Might for the locks, Potion of Freedom +100% Fire and Electricity resistance for the traps, stealth on the way out) I'll skip to the rescue of the Dukes in the next post.
Best,
A.
Great progress there Alesia! Early congrats for beating BG1 (in a few hours) ![]()

Thanks. But if you want to congratulate Aria on something, congratulate her on the horsey-horse rescue. That was like the most timely critical ever. ![]()

Aria, Half-Elven R/C: The Dukes
Ok. I want to finish, but I also want to watch some Love Boat and go to sleep at a reasonable hour (for once...). Let's do this quick.
Slythe and Krystin
For the first time in forever a non-Mustard Jellied, non-trapping-backstabbing thief finished Slythe and Krystin without taking any injuries.
Inventory with planned buffs.
Pre-battle character record.
Unexpectedly, Slythe opened with a Potion of Magic Protection rather than a Potion of Invisibility. Aria tagged him with a Wand of the Heavens.
Kystin countered Aria's skeletons with some skeletons of her own.
Slythe quaffed his PoIs, but he whiffed one each backstab due Aria's AC.
Before long, he was punked.
Krystin followed.
The Duchal Palace
Full buffed and dual-wielding flails, Aria set up a nice blocking line with skeletons.
Unfortunately, Belt decided to play running back instead of quarterback: he charged through the line rather than hanging back.
Dual-wielding at 25 strength under Oil of Speed, Aria was pretty deadly in this fight. Nonetheless, Belt finished the last Dope.
Time for Sarevok.
Best,
A.
Aria, Half-Elven R/C: The 'Voky Horror Picture Show
The Love Boat is still calling my name so I'm going to cover the death of the 'Vok super-fast with lots of pics.
Pre-battle character record. Note that Aria was wearing the Claw here since she needed the Boots of Speed and protection from dispelling arrows.
This was actually semi-tricky, since Aria couldn't dispel Sarevoks haste effect and I'm unwilling to deliberately separate enemies.
Aria's early attempts at damage dealing and Mirror Image peeling were not super-successful.
Somehow someway Angelo separated himself. Aria nearly punked him quick, but he managed to execute Invisibility->heal.
Once he was revealed, Aria finished him in melee.
Angelo's Skeleton Warrior got Aria into the danger zone.
He then landed a dispelling arrow. Interestingly, the dispelling arrow dispelled the Claw of the Kazgaroth's effects.
Like all of my characters, Aria was prepared for this possibility. She drank a Potion of Invisibility and then rebuffed.
Semaj fell to opportunistic Aule's smacks.
Tazok to the sling.
Diarmid to Aule's.
Sarevok brought down to Badly Injured with a combination of Wand of Heavens charges, sling bullets, and Aule's smacks. He was finished with the sling while skellies ran distraction.
Fin!
Final character record (unbuffed strength, dexterity, and constitution are 15, 19, and 18).
Aria will start BG2 tomorrow.
Best,
A.
Just wondering who you cast the spell on. I once used Otiluke's Resilient Sphere on Liia and she went hostile on me. Game over! The idea was to protect her!
On both Liia and Belt. But as I said, it was pre-weidu era unmodified BG1+TotSC ... perhaps the spell got changed in the meantime?
In my backups I found my old BG2 installations but unfortunately I haven't found my old BG1 installation so I can't compare the spell.
@Aleais: Congratulations ![]()
Congrats to Aria, particularly for just avoiding the need for an emergency call to the RSPCA
.
Pretty much my standard install - without aTweaks Demons this time;
That sounds promising - I'm expecting great things from this run ...
@Aleais: Congratulations ![]()
Chopper was doing exceedingly well.
Disposed of the sirenes and flesh golems using rage.
Looted the cave and returned to Nashkel Carnival where I bought a necklace of missiles which was very handy against the assassins in the mines.
It also helped to some extent against Mulahey.
Emptied the caves in the area where I exited and returned to Nashkel for my reward.
That sounds promising - I'm expecting great things from this run ...
They ended each run I had in ToB.
After getting my reward in Nashkel, I ran into problems.
First of all: No Nimbul. A slight problem as I wanted the boots for the bandit camp.
Secondly: No Lady Ogres north of Nashkel. A very minor problem, but an indication of what was to come.
Thirdly: No little girl wanting to earn a gold piece, and no Elminster. Looking bad!!
Fourthly: No bandits with whom to join up! ![]()
Looking bad. It is as if something hasn't triggered. ![]()
After killing Mulahey and looting the chest, the end of chapter movie played.
Any ideas?

Gratz to Aria.
Bargon, 2nd BG1 update
I hadn't much time to play this morning, but some stuff is done. Melicamp is saved!
(his portrait din't change tho.)
With Fire Wand, we had little fear figting Bassilus. One Fireball + 2xScorcher did him. I used a Pro Fire scroll from Talanthyr on Bargon here - Invoker's bonus to fire damage includes wands as well, hence being hit by Invoker's spells is very leathal.
The most dangerous situation for now was four Half Ogres - connecting two hits brought Bargon very close to death state. Some manouvering around them finished them.
Somewhere around this time my Avenger Loa got his 5th level (on a sidenote, I use *vanilla* XP tables, since I'm very unsure how my mages work in practice). This allows him to cast several new spells, including Spike Growth. This looks like Entangle, but unlike it's level 1 lesser cousin it does damage. It's very nice in BG1, but it's not party-friendly. Coupled with Web/Grease and the like, it's quite a combo Druids have.
Let's try it out! With four casters, groups like Molkar's are destined to a world of hurt. Web+Spikes+Grease+Sound Burst.
I ended the session by visiting Ulgoth's to buy equipment, and finishing of the Sirens. I usually prohibit myself from using stationary AoE spells - but not this time - Web pawnage > SCS sirens.
Bargon, 3rd BG1 update
Rather short this time - Mutamin is dead, filled with Poison arrows. With newest SR mages no longer can cast Pro Petrification - only scrolls and Potions exist which offer this protection. At least BG1 has more than enough, and two were used to clear out the area.
With basilisk threat gone, we excersised out magic on Kirian's gang. Fireball to soften them up, Web+Spike Growth+Skull Trap to finish.
Wrapped up some loose ends in FAI...
And now is time for a short visit to Duralg's. Here you can see how Invoker gets his damage boost - maximum damage of Scorcher is 3D6. In hands of the Invoker, it did 19 damage, which is impossible for any other mage (ofc - this affects SCS Invokers as well - so all is fair).
I would have thought that Aria would have been a name for a bard!
Half-Elves don't speak Italian. ![]()
Best,

Btw. Thanks for the congrats everyone. Aria is now in Amn, resting at the Copper Coronet.
Any ideas?
Sounds like the game failed to update the relevant variables after Mulahey's death. Using the console to solve the problem would seem appropriate.

According to Bookworm, Aria is an English word.
Yes I know it comes from the Italian, but we English are very good brilliant at stealing words from other languages. Bungalow from Malay, Pukka from Nepali, Cafe and restaurant from French, Fugue from Italian, Torc and Viaduct from Latin, Microscope from Greek etc. etc. It is what keeps our language vibrant. ![]()

Haven't been able to work out which variable is causing the problem, however, I played the game in Mulahey's lair slightly differently, so I think that I know how to avoid it happening again. (I killed some kobolds who were not enemies at that time.)
I found the Berserker a bit too easy, so will try a Champion of Torm, (Paladin Kit) However, according to the description, I should be able to get mastery in Long Swords or Bastard Swords. I can't!!
However I CAN get mastery in two handed swords. Should I go with what the game gives me, or use Shadowkeeper to make the game work as the kit description says it should? Either will work fine as far as the game is concerned. It just means that the weapon speciality will be different.
It is not until BG2 that it becomes important. (Carsomyr)
According to Bookworm, Aria is an English word.
Yes. It has been used enough by English speakers to become an English word. Basically, it comes from the Latin meaning air. It was used in romance languages to refer to certain musical forms. And as those musical forms became popular in the English speaking world, the word was integrated into our language.
Of course, this is all a tangent. I was merely noting that the real world meaning of the the alphabetic string "aria" is largely irrelevant in this context. If you like though, you can think of my R/C as leading her life in such a way that her actions are a song in honor of her god.
Best,
A.
I like it Alesia.
I love a song that we sing quite a lot.
"You are the words and the music. You are the song that I sing."
Which says it all. ![]()
Bargon, 4th BG2 update
Did some minor stuff in Durlag, not bothering with guardians, and left. Did Mulahey with no trouble with a pre-set Skull Trap for his summoned skeletons and Kobolds, druid got level 7 and killed Amazons with his Ice Storm and a Fireball. Killed Tranzig and assaulted Bandit camp. Made a video of the attack - much less time consuming than writing. Unfortunately, the picture is a bit odd (800x600 res), but it's ok - I'll see if I can do something about it. Using Fraps makes my game drop FPS a bit - again, it shouldn't be much of an issue - I'll try to work around it by lowering Baldur's frame rate to 30 (I usually play at 40) when I want to take a video.
