That's fine - I'll follow through the Weidu and see if I can replicate the non-buffed critters. If I can, there's a fair chance I can locate the culprit.
If it'l help at all, the Weidu log is here:
Druids Flamestriked Xena (with SR, druids don't even have access to this spell. I usually change SCS scripts to take such stuff into account, but I didn't for BG1...meh.)
False advertisement.
SR's Druids still have Flame Strike. ![]()
On a side note, I wanted to give my 2 cents on the Greenstone Amulet discussion, but I guess it's too late. Let's just say it heavily depends on install (e.g. vanilla's broken dispel checks make a completely different game, item allocation also plays a role, etc.) and playstyle. Still, keep in mind vanilla's multiple charges allow you to apply it to multiple characters, or re-activate itself if dispelled. You need to keep an eye for a "clear aura" yes, but in the meanwhile you can use another powerful amulet while still getting GA's mind shield (switching amulets during pause is super silly but vanilla's GA encourages it even more by performing like a wand).
It's good to hear from you Demivrgvs! Thanks for sharing your opinion! But I absolutely agree: you are too late. ![]()
We need to put this topic to rest.
Here's something worth talking about: When are you going to enter the no reload challenge, Demivrgvs? Do you play these days or do you strictly mod? If you do play, would you consider joining?
Best,
A.
@Aasim. The greater doppelgangers are working fine. It's only the regular ones that aren't casting mirror image and haste.
Best,
A.
but there are two issues: 1) the generic doppelgangers aren't buffing; 2) the giant spiders are casting their web tangles at seemingly non-sensical targets (sometimes they cast in the exact opposite direction of Ariel).
1) not a bug; it's a feature!
2) EE engine bug. Afaik fixed in BG2:EE, not yet implemented in BG1
Your game is as fine as it can get I guess. ![]()

Got it. In prior versions of SCS, both the greaters and the "lessers" cast mirror image and haste. I was expecting to see that again.

Noted. Thanks!

Shaleen, 3rd BG1 update (4th will follow shortly)
Did whatever is left on Durlag's Love floor, activated all but the final guardian and exited. Returned to High Hedge to see if there is luck with antichickenator (there wasn't) and sold a lot of stuff. To Ulgoth's Beard, bought Greenstone, Ring of Invisibility and Displacement Cloak + few scrolls and Mirrored Eyes potions. With that done, Hurgan was slain. -10 rep, some loot (including the best blunt weapon in the game, yey!) and 5k XP.
With that done we had no more exploring to do apart ToTSC parts, which I don't generally do - Ice Island is very rewarding but the first mage battle is extremely taxing on resources so I avoid it.
To main plot - Mulahey got killed. A pre-set Skull Trap took care of his summons, and he was killed in melee.
There was one dungeon left to explore still - so that's what I did after killing the Amazons and striking Nimbul with Paralyisis Wand - Ulcaster. That gave us 2nd Wand of Fire as well.
We spent 6 Wand of Fire charges + 2 Holy Smites + 2 Skull traps in Bandit Camp battle. ![]()
As opossed to all my other fights here, Khossan was the final survivor. He got confused and wondered off. It was a sight to see for him when he returned. ![]()
We had zero problems in Cloakwood. Berserker now wields Spider's Bane, and no longer fears poisoning or webs. Bandit Wizard dropped Spell Thrust scroll, which I've put to good use vs Drasus & co. SR makes this spell have a smallish AoE - enough to take down MGoIs of the two mages there (btw, SCS uses this spell to take down Spell Shields. The fact that it affects several targets means my mages can never stand close to each other, otherwise they both loose Spell Shield with a very cheap spell).
Confusion cast - both mages are affected. In only lasts for 5 rounds, so we must hurry (the cloud there is a a substitute spell for Blindness - Obscuring Mist).
Wand of Paralyzation is used on both mages - both fail. Battle is won.
In the mines themselves, Shaleen had hear nearest-death experience when a number of hits landed on her, followed by Flame Arrow from Hareishan. Nothing a big healing potion can't fix, but I didn't like the looks of it.
Again, Wand is used.
Davaeorn
Meh. With my choice not to use potions, this was very long. I decided against Pro Magic scrolls used here (I WILL be using scrolls, just not for Davaeorn).
We summoned skeletons to hold the door, triggered the traps, healed, triggered dialugue, retreated back and killed the Horrors. Davaeorn hid himself behind the wall and seemed to ignore us for now.
Anyhow, with the death of his Horrors, we attacked him. Barby got dispelled, but we persisted on attacking him, healing as neccecary (and it was- he had 2xSunfire +2x Cone of Cold).
Since the battle was spread out, I didn't really pay attention to my skeletons. They didn't last long and Xena was killed by the guards.
But with Davaeorn's stoneskins/mirror images gone, his most powerful spells expended, it was over.
BG I did quickly, not fighting Iron Throne guards, doing the relly minor (but rewarding in terms of XP/loot) stuff and returned to Candlekeep. With access to level 4 clerical buffs, Prat&co got hit quite hard.
Krystin & Slythe
2x Pro Magic scroll used on Shaleen and barbarian. Krystin fails vs Wand, Slythe killed in melee.
Incredibly enough, Krystin lived long enough to actually survive the Hold duration. Her buffs expired, her morale broke, and we killed her with Larloch's drains.
Palace fight - Confusion casting affected one dope alone - but a crucial one. ![]()
He did survive the 5 rounds duration on the debuff, tried to vanish by Shadow door, got revealed, his morale broke, and he was slain.
Liia died - one more Invisibility ring, yea! ![]()
Sarevok coming up.
Shaleen, 4th and final BG1 update
I was kind of worried how Sarevok would play out. Without Invis/Speed potions, this has a potential to be very ugly. Anyhow, I have access to 2 invis Rings. With IR they come with 3 charges each. This means I have some room for error, at the expence of slight delay in between clicking and tunrning invisible.
We start slowly - Pro Magic on Berserker and Barbarian, launch a Detonation arrow at them, go invisible, and dispel their own invisibilites.
Angelo, being the most curious of the bunch, comes to check where we are. Uses a wand of lighting on my Diviner, and gets 2x Paralyzation in return. We wave him good night.
Now we spend some time throwing Detonation arrows and going invisible after. I can't do it long due to limited ring charges, and soon have to switch to another tactic. Semaj is still alive unfortunately. Wand of MS is used, and Gnolls show up.
Semaj puts them to sleep, and Sarevok now notices us. I send Shaleen and Barathum on Diramid - his poison/acid arrows are a huge pain.
Few Acid arrows of my own hit Tazok, and I finish him with Larloch's drains + one more arrow hit. Sarevok is on Barbarian's tail, and he must keep moving. Unfortunately, Sarevok is very quick and apperantly has a zero speed factor weapon, so hits almost regullary. Cheesy bastard.
Semaj get Paralyzation charge. Surivived one, but didn't save vs 2nd.
Skeletons are being a huge pain - I must pause each 2 seconds and move casters away from them. Diramid is still alive, we can hardly hit him. Sarevok is still chasing barbarian around, and he can't do anything but keep moving and drinking potions each round.
Semaj dies.
Followed by Diramid.
It's now Sarevok + skeletons vs us.
Xena dies. This could have been a chunking strike...
Sarevok simply refuses to bother with summons. We drink potions, and manage to get rid of skeletons. It took a while until Sarevok finally decides to waste his final moments on summoned Hobgoblins.
2nd Wand of MS gave us Ogres. Unlike Hobgoblins, they usually take 2 hits before Sarevok craps them.
It took one more Wand charge with wolves, and it was done. The longest Sarevok fight I ever had. ![]()
Shaleen will enter BG2 part soon.
With that done, Hurgan was slain. -10 rep, some loot (including the best blunt weapon in the game, yey!) and 5k XP.
Yep - I definitely wouldn't want to meet Shaleen in a dark alley. That is one scary lady
, but good to see she'll have the opportunity to raise some hell in Amn.
Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 78 - (update 1)
Cinders, elf dragon disciple (Grond0) & Fraye, halfling priest of Helm (Gate70)
Not for the first time in our long and chequered history (checking the autopsy list, a fraction over 3 years - where has the time gone!) we made a start with a 3rd different pairing on the same day. Our random choice of character classes included a dragon disciple, so we decided to use the Enhanced Edition for this run.
In Candlekeep Cinders was spotted grabbing a potion from the priest's stock and chased outside by a guard. In BGEE the guards are difficult to shake off, so that could have been a pain. However, Cinders had taken sleep as one of her spells (the lack of long-term usefulness for that means I wouldn't take it in single player, but it's a handy spell for MP) and the guard found his long hours of duty catching up on him.
Shoal had her own cat-naps as a result of Fraye's commands and didn't survive long - providing the duo with their first level-ups.
They've just arrived in Beregost to prepare for their further adventures.
Cinders, dragon disciple 2, 16 HPs, 1 kill
Fraye, priest of Helm 2, 20 HPs, 8 kills, 0 deaths
Congratulations Aasim! Haven't read everything yet, but will do so later. (I'm quite busy deciding on a new Charname.)

Thanks Blackraven - sounds like you've got a job for life there.
GJ Grond0, GL further. Don't die in that dungeon...
Congratulations Aasim!
Isla and Evel took out Bassilus with the help of Isla's "Freedom of Action" This has brought Evel up to Level 3.
I now have a decision to make. Dual class now that Evel has Grandmastery in hammers or wait until he gets his second enrage at level 4. Advice please. I don't want to leave double classing any later than that. Too long without his fighting skills in my opinion. In fact I am reluctant to wait until level 4.
@Aasim. Congratulations! That was an outstanding run. The final battle was especially interesting. Sometimes constraints can be liberating in that they free us from routine. I think that may have been the case here. Well done and well chosen!
@Grond0. Beautiful work with Rifft. You seem to have an sense of your character and what you want to do with him. You also seem to be playing with care and attention to detail. I'm expecting great things from Rifft. This could be a special run.
Best,
A.
Btw. Ariel's reboot should get started soon. I spent some time experimenting with my new EE install. Given Aasim's feedback on the recent changes to the Improved Doppelgangers component, I'm now satisfied that everthing is working as well as it can. I've also settled on a proficiency allocation for Ariel. It's a setup that should take me out of my comfort zone, which is something I feel I need. I'll post on her relatively soon.

Wait for 2nd I'd say. Two rages are better than one.

I think I won't be so restrained next time I play (it took a relatively long while to finish BG1), but I'll make some other adjustments.
Wands (Paralyzation, to be more specific) are the first on my mind as quite outstanding items in BG1 - you'll notice that almost every mage got hit by it (it didn't matter in few cases like Hareishan, but it certainly did vs Angelo for example).
Hence, I'll either nerf the Wand (no save penaltly should be fine, it's -3 on my install) or go without wands at all. I used to be a bit more risk-driven before, like using Viconia to Dominate Angelo once and feeding him to Sarevok
, using Semaj's MSIII after charming him etc.
I guess time and failures take their toll on devising new ways to deal with the challenges. ![]()

The Wand of Paralyzation is defnitely a sensible target for nerfing in BG1. Wands in general are an issue.
I play with a no item recharge rule. That has a minor effect on gameplay via the Shield Amulet and the Necklace of Missiles, and a significant impact via an unmentionable amulet, which is neither blue nor yellow. Restricting recharge alone isn't enough to rebalance BG1 wands, however: there are too many of them and they have too many charges.
Playing without them altogether wouldn't be a bad idea in balanced party play. An outright ban wouldn't work for some solo characters, such as mages, however (Sarevok fight).
Making them all one charge per day items is an option, though again that would make the final battle prohibitively difficult for mages. Reducing charge numbers, wand numbers, and restricting recharge is another avenue.
I used to be a bit more risk-driven before, like using Viconia to Dominate Angelo once and feeding him to Sarevok
, using Semaj's MSIII after charming him etc.

I think that's part of the adjustment to no reload play. Human memory has a fascination with the spectacular. Extraordinary successes are always remembered. Mundane failures are usually forgotten. The battles we remember are a selected set of the battles actually fought and that selected set is what we end up basing our strategies on. But that selected set is a biased sample: it's a set of the spectacular.
No reload play changes all that. In no reload play, it is the failures that become salient. Over time, that leads to a risk averse strategy informed by the memories of all that has gone wrong before. It seems to me that you are making that transition.
Best,
A.
@Grond0. I just re-read Rifft's BG1 runs. Your experience with no potion play seems to have paid off. You've truly mastered movement. I'm definitely looking forward to following Rifft in Amn!
Best,
A.
I don't recharge anything, there's simply no need - the ammount of Wands is absurd in BG1. I'm usually selling them (particulary Fire Wand is common) just before I return to Baldur's city to confront Slythe.
In addition, a fully-loaded wand costs about 30-40K on my install (there's no discount for reputation). Since one sells Full plate for no more then 500 gp, you can see why I don't rebuy them
.
It seems to me that you are making that transition.
Did you notice where in party composition line Shaleen stands?
All my other PCs were no.1 slot, first to enter the fray.
She's 3rd, using a sling. That's a change of pace, and a change of mind.

I'm quite busy deciding on a new Charname.
Here's a thought, Blackraven. I had created Ariel (in part) so that Grondo and I could compare the melee abilities of F/Ts and swashbucklers in SCS/Ascension. With Rifft gone, that's no longer a possibility.
If you like, I can retire Ariel and you can give Glorydd another chance. I can then get back to Amelie.
Best,
A.
@Blackraven
To chip in on Alesia's comment above:
I really, really enjoyed your cleric/thief run (yes, I know I said that already
).
It's such a unique blend of abilities; hence, I'd be very happy if you'd roll one if you're set on thieves.
