All of my characters have searched for that lich but somehow-someway none have them have found him. I wonder why that is...
What's next, Grond0?
Well, if a dwarf can't hack it and a halfling can't bash it, then perhaps a gnome can finesse it ...

What's next, Grond0?
Well, if a dwarf can't hack it and a halfling can't bash it, then perhaps a gnome can finesse it ...
After playing two exceedingly short-lived female paladins, I am now playing my first evil female. I must be sexist. I have played males both good and evil and several good females, but never an evil one, which is surprising considering the number of evil women I have known.
This one is a halfling fighter/thief.
Str 17, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 18, Wis 15, Cha 3.
By using a staff she had picked up, by the time she got to Nashkel, her charisma had dropped to 1.
Something that surprised me was that Oublek greeted me as a fine and honest friend. The character is chaotic evil, and with a charisma of 1, can hardly be a conman. (Should that be conwoman?)
It seems to be a time for gnomes!
Nardal, Gnomish Berserker, 2nd and final update
We left off in the FAI after attaining level 6. I inadvertently set for myself a handicap this game: no killing anything from out of sight, and probably due to Alesia's influence, no recharging items. The Necklace of Fireballs was bought, but by the end of the game, unused. Finally, no zoning to avoid spells... Except for that one fight vs Neira in Nashkel. That was the only series of spells interrupted by moving through doorways. I don't think this is going to be a habit now, specifically not in BG1, where I feel as though the ways to survive are much fewer and the save-or-dies just as dangerous, not to mention without certain potions usually impossible to guarantee saves against. However, Enrage cuts through most of those deadly effects, so rushing the casters is a great possibility.
Anywho. Nardal travelled to Nashkel after buying the Bastard Sword +1 and Composite bow +1 from Beregost, before dueling Greywolf one on one and winning. The mines was hacked through at the expense of quite a few potions and quite a few more were used in fighting Mulahey Enraged... Mainly because I chose the wrong option when he tried to surrender and got a double-size mob.

A shot from the bow guarantees Mulahey doesn't get to recover to cast potentially fatal spells once Nardal's Berserk runs out, and one by one the mob dies. The second Enrage is used during the Amazon fight, and Nardal rushes them. The fight could go better, as Nardal didn't get in range of the Dart thrower or the archer to get them to switch to melee, and their attacks do more damage than they like. On top of that, their casters seem determined to deny me as much experience as they can as their own Glyph of Wardings take out two of their own, as in here:
From there, we get the Shield amulet, kill Nimbul under effects from said amulet (Nardal saved vs spell for Horror anyways), identify and sell stuff at High Hedge. We try to save Melicamp, fail, and kill Bassilus, and find the first effect that's not protected against by Enrage: the almighty Entangle. ![]()

Potion of Clarity guarantees safety from the Sirines, and Absorption foils the Flesh Golems, and CON is now 19. The second Enrage for the day (that may or may not be 24 hours at this point) is used on Tranzig, before resting. North, Ankhegs are slain, Tenya is helped, and Cloak of Displacement and Greenstone amulet are bought in case Enrage ends halfway during a spell caster fight. Bandit camp, Nardal duels Taugosz for a set of Fullplate, which a couple potions ensures. Between the Horn and Enrage, the spell caster in the tent is useless; he falls first, and the other three die one by one to Nardal's blade.
Sell stuff, immediately to Cloakwood. Importantly this time, we side with the druids, guaranteeing Aldeth's second +1 Bastard sword. For those who don't recall, this one has an additional +2 damage vs Shapeshifters, so Doppels are so very, very dead now. Potion of Freedom and Pro. Poison wrecks the spiders, and another Enrage demolishes the party in front of the mines. One enrage is spent on Hareisham, and after drawing away the Battle Horrors and meleéing them, the second on Davaeorn:

One rest later, and I find just how far behind I am on Bhaalspawn powers: I only now get my first Slow Poison. No matter. In Baldur's gate, one Enrage takes out the Ogre mage, and after a bit of easy Doppel slaying, and a set of buffs... (Mind Focusing, Fire resistance, Regeneration, Invulnerability, an Oil of Speed, and of course Enrage)

In Candlekeep, Nardal makes a visit to Winthrop to get DuHM, mumbling some half-hearted excuse about why he has no idea where in the Realms Imoen ran off to, and rested to refresh his Enrages. Captured after not killing Rieltar, captured anyways, blah blah blah. Potion of Storm Giant Strength along with elemental resistances gets us safely to the tomes, with the Ring of Free Action being put on whenever Web traps are fired. Pratt's party is Enraged upon, and they don't stand a chance. A couple phase spiders later, and a potion of mirrored eyes and two further dead Basilisks, and Nardal's back in Baldur's gate. We buff for the final fights: all the above, plus elemental resistances, plus another Potion of Storm Giant Strength, plus a potion of Heroism. I think I'm getting better at using one-shot items instead of holding on to them all the time! ![]()
Slythe is killed in straight melee, and both dukes survive the battle handily: each of them were only targeted by a single Doppel, and with 4 APR and all the potions Nardal quaffed, the fight's straightforward and very, very fast. The first and only potion of invisibility is drank to get through the maze and the Undercity party, and endgame has come vs Sarevok.
Apparently, 1 hour has passed between starting on Slythe and entering the temple, as all the 1-hour potions have faded; they're quickly replaced and a Potion of Magic Shielding completes the buffing process. Something interrupted Nardal's invisibility somewhere; I have no idea what it was. Maybe drinking the Potion of Power? Anyways, Sarevok starts the conversation before his speed is immediately dispelled by an arrow of dispelling. MIs are also dispelled before Nardal switches back to dual-wielding Bastard swords to finish Semaj under Enrage. I go toe-to-toe with Sarevok for a long while, and I pull back to use my healing potions when to my surprise I see this:
Well. That was fast.
I have finals this upcoming week, so I'm not sure if I can enter Nardal into BG2 immediately, but he'll be in Amn one way or another.
Well. That was fast.
And all the better for it
. Good luck in Amn.
Entering BG1 challenge, Alche, dwarven swashbuckler:
He starts with pips in katana and crossbow.
My modification to swashbuckler kit:
Additionally, he won't be gaining trap HLAs (if he ever comes that far I'll replace them with something else), Refinements "Use scrolls" or UAI (thieves don't get it with Refinements anyway).
I'm also using slightly revised XP tables (all classes share the same). Critical Strike HLA I've reworked to a flat bonus to damage (+8) for one round. It doesn't automatically hit and it affects those immune to critical hits, so it's not that situational anymore.
Alche won't be alone in his adventure:
Gragu, berserker with 2-handed weapons
Larkis, a mage/cleric
Mance, an Invoker
And finally, Deb, an Archer. She will be using Short Bows since it fits her portrait and because I like Gesen bow.
Weidu:
No aTweaks demons. (it requires a bit script fiddling to make some spell detection changes with new SR. While I do that for SCS, I haven't the will to do it for Demons; will probably some time).
Be that as it may, to game.
After ramping up the stuff in Beregost and obtaining the Wand of Lightning from the drawer there, Bassilus was put to rest. This battle can be very ugly since I don't have reliable spell disruption and we were at level 2. What will/can happen depends on his prebuff. He may use Blade Barrier (bad), Physical Mirror (very bad) or summon an Aerial Servant (very bad). In this instance, he apperantly had a Servant in his book, but never got around to cast it. Both spells he wanted to cast were disrupted with Lighting attacks, and he fell short after.
Next, Ankhegs and Tenya. The latter also died. She gave her speech, but turn red immidiately (arrow hit her) and was slain.
We got level 4 (and our lovely set of abilities) after killing the ankheg just north of her.
Next, to south, where we continued our rampage.
There are two important items there - Bracers of Archery for Deb (with IR, they work as Gauntlets of Weapon Spec - but only for ranged weapons. The latter work only for melee); and Dex Gloves (IR version doesn't set DEX to 18, it adds 2 to what you already have). Alche gets those, putting his dexterity to 19 for an extra THAC0 point.
After releasing Dynaheir, we pay a brief visit to WK. I don't really like SCS spider behaviour (instant teleport) but I'm kind of used to that.
We explore up to the point where we hit level 6, and exit without fighting the guardians.
Some more XP farming in basilisk area - Muta got poison arrow x2 and never talked to us. ![]()
More loot...
One more Wand of Fire.
And this is my current map. I've done basically everything (-mages near Larswood, Ice Island, Durlag and Firewine ruins.)
And this, naturally. ![]()
Got to level 7 here, and now should be a nice time to get rid of Mulahey and his kobolds.
Looks promising Aasim - glad to see you upholding the honour of the swashies
.
Tnx Grond0 - I'll definitely try.
Alche, 2nd and final BG1 update
After finishing BG1 wilderness, it was time for main plot to go on. Mulahey got 2x poison arrow from stealth. He didn't make any of the two saves and was slain with 3rd arrow.
Amazons were done with Silence + arrows.
Tranzig - same as Mulahey, stealth-poison x2.
Bandit camp - nothing out of the ordinary. Before going there I buy potions of Explosions usually, and this time was no exception. With 3 of those, two Fire Wands and few Skull traps, the enemies' numbers soon thined out.
Taugosz was the hardiest of the bunch so he got Lightning wand charge as he stopped to drink a Giant strenght potion.
Skull Trap finisher.
Cloakwood areas were mostly uneventful. We got Spiders Bane and rushed to the mines. Skipped Drasus via invisibility. Used 2x Detonation arrows from Durlags on a large group of enemies on 2nd level (berserker was taking heavy damage, I didn't want to risk death since my inventory is completely overloaded in BG1 usually, regardless of party size).
This was the closest Alche got to dying in whole BG1. He's not yet suited for melee combat, but that will change.
A large healing potion was used to avoid another critical here.
Davaeorn - rather short - Archer used Pro Magic, and filled him with Acid Arrows. The damage ticks go through his Stoneskins, and he dies. Quite a bit of potions used - his troops could hit Deb fairly reliably on rolls of 13 and above - I mitigated that by giving her Displacer Cloak + Avoidance Boots, which made only crits hit her. Unlike in my other runs, Davaeorn never used any spell vs her (probaby due to Pro Magic). He did cast a 2nd Stoneskin, but it only prolonged his destiny to die here.
BG city- I skipped Iron Throne, other than that nothing out of ordinary.
Back to Candlekeep ; burned down the IT leaders. I only do it since they have a Clarity on them. ![]()
Back to BG - for the first time I play this game, Slythe died before he got a single attempt to attack anyone. He decided to use a healing potion instead invisibility, and 6 seconds interval was too much for him.
Both Deb and Gragu used Pro Magic scrolls here, while the other party members were kept safely away.
Krystin died when her PfMW wore out. Unlike my usual experience with her, she used no summons. All the better, since it makes it far shorter for her.
Still buffed with Pro Magic, we defeat the dopes. I didn't use any spells here (apart Rage), only Oils of Speed. Dope Mage went near the stairs to the right, so didn't bother us much as we slain the others swiftly.
Belt got him.
We skip most of the stuff now with invisibility, I didn't even clear the Maze of the undead. As for Sarevok, we had a decent ammout of Detonation arrows, Oils of Speed, Invisibility potions and one more Pro Magic scroll. All my archer needs to virtually solo this w/o trouble with some meatshields (2 Wands of MS). Alche did his job dispelling illusions, to make it easier for Deb to lay waste on them.
They all (incredibly enough) managed to survive quite long. At one moment, Angelo breaks formation, casts Detect Invisibility, and teleports to us. Normally, I'd slap him with Paralyzation wand now, but I decided that I'm not using it this time.
As he teleports, I drink 2 of my Clarity potions, so all would be safe from possible Confusion.
He got us all visible, and died to arrows. Took even shorter than usual, probably because Deb doesn't really miss often, if ever.
With him gone, we continue as before. 2x detonation, invisibility potion, make distance, repeat.
Last men standing - Semaj & Sarevok.
I deal with Semaj with Acid Arrows.
With him gone, Sarevok charges us. Gragu tanked a few hits to draw him away from more vulnerable characters, then used invisibility ring so Sarevok looses focus and attacks our first summons (in the game actually. I never summoned anything until this point) - 3 Hobgoblins.
He did take down two, I used one more charge of the Wand, got Ogres, and it was done few seconds later. He never got a swing at the 3rd Hobgoblin; making this his shortest lifespan in my runs.
Alche and his group will be entering BG2 part soon.
Rogues galore! Nice to see all these success-stories here.
Congrats Epsil0 and Aasim! Good luck with the endgame Grond0.
And let me add to the joy:
Gerry, Gnome Cleric/Thief, update 3 (final BG1 update)
Gerry has successfully negotiated BG1 but stopped keeping his journal and Blackraven is short on time, so below just a couple of highlights of Gerry's adventures rather than a journaled update in the style of the first two updates.
Bassilus gave Gerry a real run for his money. Three rests were required. The priest, while easily Silenced, saved against six Hold Persons, and successfully held Gerry forcing the Gnome to consume a potion of invisibility.
Greywolf was another foe that took Gerry by surprise. The hasted bounty hunter somehow resisted a Hold Person without having saved against it and without having quaffed a potion of freedom. Gerry took various hits before he made it to the area border.
A preventive Sanctuary proved a life-saver in the pirate cave when Gerry triggered a trap instead of disarming it,
Dark Horizons Duergar in the Nashkel Mines were ignored. Skeletons failed to lure all path blocking Kobolds away on the penultimate level, causing Gerry to use one or two Necklace of Missiles charges.
Btw, Gerry had only circa 40k Xp when entering the Nashkel Mines, much lower than my Charnames usually have.
Nimbul had Gerry quaff a potion of clarity,
Lamalha's and Molkar's bounty hunter parties failed to keep up with Gerry, and at the Bandit Camp, the Gnome used similar elusive tactics. He first looted Tazok's chest under Sanctuary,
At the FAI, a four (Dark Horizons) servants of Torm who were somehow convinced of Gerry's evilness by a letter containing defamatory statements regarding Gerry's person. Sadly, for Gerry sought no fight, their mistake cost them their lives. The cover of night allowed for easy backstabs while Skeletons and FAI guards helped distract the enemy. Interestingly, a Flamestrike not only fried and killed their leader, it also polymorphed him somehow.
In Cloakwood Aldeth was felled, Spiders shunned (Sanctuary facilitated the salvaging of Chelak's corpse), and Druids and Iron Throne guards as well. The Cloakwood Mine was very well-guarded, by Dark Horizons Black Talons, in addition to Drasus & Co. A pre-emptive strike meant the end of Kysus.
Inside the Cloakwood Mine stealth/sanctuary were only left to organize the release of slaves. Davaeorn's lair was better protected than expected, with extra warriors, a rogue, and a wizard. The latter's presence prompted Gerry to use a green scroll of PfMagic (because I didn't know what to expect really, and didn't check his spells in EEKeeper).
In Baldur's Gate Gerry did a lot of thieving (guild quests, telescope, stat tomes, Helm of Balduran, failed pickpocket attempt Cloak of Balduran), and some of the more lucrative quests XP-wise in order to obtain the last BG1 levels (Marek/Lothander, Varci Roaringhorn, Basilisk in Docks District). He decided not to fight the Iron Throne crew, using stealth to reach and interrogate Thaldorn.
With his conflict with the Iron Throne very close to escalation, Gerry paid a Bard in the Elfsong Tavern to create a more fearsome image of him, in hopes of making bounty hunters and assassins think twice about attacking him.
His changed reputation didn't keep a group of Ogre Mages from attacking Gerry though. A second potion of clarity neutralized the numerous Charm Persons and Dire Charms they cast at him by the entrance to Candlekeep.
Back in Baldur's Gate, the Gnome nobly rescued Duke Eltan from Rashad's poisonous presence,
Gerry, eager to finish off Sarevok there and then, attempted a couple of backstabs at Sarevok, and was quite successful, even though the warrior had 50% damage resistance.
Gerry went straight after Sarevok, fighting his way past Battle Horrors and Skeleton Warriors, and snuck by the Iron Throne war party to reach Sarevok's sanctum. Diarmid fell fast thanks to posioned sling bullets.
Backstabs then took care of Sarevok.
The following screenshot shows Gerry's inventory at the end of the game. The Helm of Balduran was dropped just before the Final-Save was made, so that Irenicus' Dungeon will offer Gerry the Claw of Kazgaroth.
I'm not sure what to do next and when. I think I'll be a bit busy this week so not much gaming I'm afraid, and I'll have to mod BG2EE and/or do a new BGT install, and decide whether to import Gerry into (Ascensionless) BG2EE or BGT-SoA.
Rogues galore! Nice to see all these success-stories here.
Congrats Epsil0 and Aasim! Good luck with the endgame Grond0.
And let me add to the joy:
Gnomes united will never be defeated
. Well done Aasim and Blackraven. I'll see if I can keep the run going now with Evan ...
Grats with all recent victories, friends! Keep the nice work in Amn! Shorties, onward!
edit: as I see, Evan already fell over there but I'm pretty sure his successor will come by mmm... shortly ![]()

Indeed - short and shortly it is
.
I'm back to work today
I could have put in Dylan's first update that I'd made no significant mistakes so far. However, I notice that I did make one in the update. It's a bank holiday in the UK, so no work today - that explains why I've not been able to get anyone at the office to answer
. If you have to make mistakes, then that's a good one to indulge in. I'll get on with Dylan again shortly then ...
I must say, I find Eren's portrait very fitting after witnessing all those chunkings ![]()

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 79 - (update 2)
Risqe, elf wild mage (Grond0) & Pallor, half-elf fighter/mage (Gate70)
We didn't quite have time to complete BG1 today, but did most of the hard work and this pairing seems promising if Risqe can avoid too many wild surges.
The session started in the Cloudpeaks, where the only moment of concern was when Risqe tried to heal pallor using his Bhaal CLW. Rather than staunching the wounds the resultant surge fireball cauterized them, but both characters survived.
There was another potentially dangerous surge against Greywolf when Risqe found herself with heavy legs and moving very slowly. Fortunately Greywolf chose to pursue Pallor who kept him running round until Risqe was fit again and could take over the duties as the hare while Pallor did the shooting.
After a few more reputation tasks and picking up Meilum's bracers
the duo travelled to the basilisk area. During the journey they were ambushed by a basilisk, but luckily that tried to attack in melee rather than use its gaze
- as a result Pallor was annoyed that Risqe had persuaded him to waste an invulnerability potion. After making short work of the basilisks we had a short conversation about how to run Mutamin round while shooting him. In fact that was not necessary as some magic missiles, plus two well placed arrows took care of him within a couple of seconds.
Kirian's companions were all blinded before Pallor showed himself and she immediately lost her sight as well.
After buying a few spells the next target was the ankheg nest. That was cleared without problems - Pallor showing off his newly acquired mirror images there. Then it was onwards to Ulgoth's Beard to do a bit of shopping there. The Greenstone Amulet made Bassilus easy.
It could also have been used on the sirines, but Pallor chose to use a potion of clarity there. They all fell easily, although the golems put up a better struggle - hitting Pallor several times through his mirrors - much to his disgust.
The mirrors proved much more effective against the Doomsayer - it failed to land any telling blows while magic missiles helped wear it down
- before the duo got a trip back to Nashkell from Brage Tours Ltd.
Risqe, wild mage 8, 50 HPs (incl. 12 from familiar), 83 kills
Pallor, fighter 6 / mage 6, 63 (incl. 5 from Helm) HPs, 227 kills, 0 deaths
Well, with the demise of Alche, I've created something a bit more unique. Meet Borgo. He's a multiclassed berserker/druid.
Unlike my other PCs, he will be roleplayed as a "wild man".
Hence the kit here.
Note that this is KR berserker, so he won't be able to cast spells if he uses Rage. It's one or the other.
Additionaly, he can only memorize (and use) red-bolded spells. Hence, his level 1 priest scroll looks like this:
For more fun, he's under equpiment restrictions - only nature-forged armor is allowed (this does include scale). Weapons are limited to Staffs, Spears and Clubs. Under no circumstance can he equip a shield or a ranged weapon of any kind, even those magically created. It's a faith thing. ![]()
His party:
A halfling WS named Balfut
An elven sorceress named Zizi
And a human Necromancer named Bons
This is my own necro kit revision:
Wish them luck - they'll need it ![]()
I like Borgo's concept (have somewhat similar char of Grim - Kensai/Druid multi myself). So looking forward to see how he will fare! (all the best of luck or whatever he need to succeed of course).
Good luck Aasim! Love the guy, a true wild man ![]()
Cheers!
