@Aasim - Ankhegs have decent Thac0, and if they get several criticals in a row, it can be critical for any but the sturdiest of characters. Perhaps more players should take Alesia's advice and use a green scroll of acid protection when fighting them - there's not much else to do with those scrolls anyways.

I generally do use Pro Acid vs them, yes (with IR it's 100% immunity, not 50). Unfortunately, I rolled miserable HP for level 2, and two hits connection without a clean aura to heal up were too much. My AC was -2, with additional -3 from Piercing Girdle. I think that gives them hits on 19 and 20, maybe 18 as well. Ah well .

Yet another quick death so starting an orcish Cleric/ranger. haven't played that before.
She made her way down to Nashkel and after picking up Lord Foreshadow's ring returned.
She was attacked by kobolds and rather foolishly opted to fight them. With the commandos they are quite tough and this was the result.
She returned to Beregost where using Lord Foreshadow's ring she was able to get Algernon's Cloak.
She protected herself by charming some guards etc.
They all died.
Silke and Karlat and the spiders got into fisticuffs whilst she watched from sanctuary.
The only problem was that the spider's body could not be found.

At -5 I think they will still hit on a roll of 16 or better. Also don't forget they get +4 attack with their acid breath, so it might even be better than that. Also, if you are in melee, it's your blunt defense that counts there. And -2 is not that great. My fighters typically have -6 AC wearing boots of avoidance, cloak of displacement, and girdle of bluntness for maximum protection.

I attack them in melee. Sometimes (apperantly this is fairly random) they choose to use spit attack despite being in melee - so they loose 8 THAC0, 4 AC, and when you hit them, they take additional +4 damage. I didn't know about Blunt vs their claws - I was fairly certain Piercing matters here. They indeed do blunt, tnx.

Diary of Breella
I headed northwards killing an ogre with a belt fetish and proceeded to an area swarming with Ankheg. I put an end to the swarm and then helped a cleric against some evil fishermen. I met a paladin and had great difficulty in deciding whether to ask for his help. In the end I did. He is a very personable Champion of Torm.
With him we visited the kobolds that almost killed me. We returned the compliment, but there was no ALMOST about it. We then headed south and helped Bentha against an evil mage.
We thought it a good idea to clear the Carnival of kobolds so we started with a small group of them that followed us to Bentha's tent. We charmed her and she was a great help in dealing with them as she was a proficient mage. After helping her with most of them, she scared one of them so much that it fled the tent. She followed it outside and killed it. We joined her and went in search of others. We found a group that included kobold commandos. Sadly they killed her before we killed them. We won't tell anyone that she was a reluctant hero. Since she gave her life to defeat evil, we will let everyone believe that she gave up her life willingly. Naturally we won't tell lies, just omit some of the truth.
We then headed east killing a lot of undead including a revenant. A mage also killed himself. ![]()
Then helped Samuel. I then agreed to escort Khalid and Jaheira to Nashkel which I did without incident. I left them there. If they want to investigate the mines now it is up to them, but I have other priorities at the moment. ![]()
We helped prism and when Isra, a cavalier offered to join us, we were delighted. The three of us investigated the southern end of the Sword Coast. We helped a dryad, a dog and a cat in the process becoming super-heroes with a reputation of 20. We saw a gnoll fortress in the distance, but without good cause, I am not going to take on a fortress.
We returned to the carnival and bought some necklaces and scrolls. We are again poor with less than 100gp.
EDIT
We edged our way slowly through the mines discovering that "Holy smite" is fantastic against kobolds even though they are a lot tougher than vanilla. Using it means that I can get straight through to those that do the harm and kill them. (commandos, guards, shamans, king)
Got my positioning wrong against Mulahey, but still won. "Silence" won the day. Sold and bought necklace of missiles at the Carnival. Now totally impoverished. Returned to Nashkel and got the reward. (Did that the wrong way round).
We headed back to Beregost and met Elminster and Officer Vai. We then went to deal with Bassilus and Zargal. "Silence" made Bassilus a weakling. "Holy Smite" made Zargal and his cronies easy to deal with.
EDIT 2
Headed for the lighthouse area. Used "silence followed by "Holy Smite" Silence worked well but "Holy Smite" didn't, however It mattered not. Isra was confused, but she just wandered off so it wasn't a problem. We killed the sirenes and hobgoblins after summoning a skeleton.
"Holy smite did work well against the carrion crawlers however. We then attacked the second set of sirene. The skeleton did very well single handed but was getting badly hurt so we healed it. Isra joined in on the tail end of this battle. We killed two of the golems and looted the cave.
We headed south and helped the archaeologist. We then took the idol. Ajantis was a little disturbed by this but it worked out well as we were able to kill the doomsayer. We then helped Brage before heading for the basilisk area.
EDIT 3
Molkar ambushed me and held me and though Ajantis and Isra attempted to help. It was not enough. ![]()
The End.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm not dead or so... at least I'M not dead. As for my char(s)... well, it's not that they were killed... one got charmed, the next killed herself with a wand of lightning.
But we don't give up that easily... so here's
Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief - take 17
Installation: BGEE plus RE, UB, NPC, RR, SCS and my own modifications (Weidu.log):
After Gorion was killed Dyara went to the Friendly Arm Inn. Joia got her ring, Dyara sneaked into the inn, rested (to regain her spells.. ahem spell) and then Tarnesh was put to sleep and never woke up again...
Going south then Dyara took the belts from a dead ogre's body, also the caravan bandits were killed...
At Beregost Marl was calmed and Firebead was helped. At High Hedge Dyara bought lots of spells and scribed them all (with the help of a potion of genius). Also Mellicamp was saved...
South of Beregost the two ogrillons were killed, on a hobgoblin Dyara found some nice boots. Further south more hobgoblins were put to death. At Nashell Dyara took the ankheg plate mail, she bothered Noober long enough to give up and sneaked into the inn and rested (ignoring Neira). On her way to the mines she was ambushed by Senyak, Dorothea and some lightning...
At the mines Greywolf was backstabed to death, at the Gibberling Mountains Dyara found the ring and promised to take Samuel to the Friendly Arm Inn. At the Valley of Tombs the Revenant was put to rest...
... the other tombs were cleansed as well. At Lonely Peeks Arabella was saved and Arghain, Ion, Dribbin, Billy and Sarhedra's ogres were killed. Then at Beregost the spider infested house was cleansed and finally Samuel was brought to the temple at Friendy Arm Inn.
Back in Beregost lots of quests were done (Neera, Karlat, Perdue, Mirianne and Colquetle), also some items were bought (Masterbelt, Composite Bow+1, Helmet of Charm Protection - as a previous Dyara had learned that 90% is really just that: 90% and not 100%). At Beregost Temple area Dyara released Corianna and fought the Vampiric Wolves...
As Dyara had forgotten to memorise some 'Protection from Petrification' spells she returned to Beregost, with the help of a potion of master thievery she pickpocket Algernon's cloak and rested.
Casting Protection from Petrification on herself Dyara then killed all the (nine) basilisks (but Mutamin's pet).
Dyara then used her second (and last) 'Prot. from Petrification', 'Shield', 'Resist Fear' and 'Invisibility' to fight Mutamin but unfortunately the fight didn't went exactly as planned because despite starting with a hit Mutamin still got his 'Remove Magic' off and all of Dyara's protections were dispelled. Immediately Dyara quaffed a 'Potion of Invisility'...
With no 'Prot. from Petrification' spells left Dyara used the one 'Potion of Mirror Eyes' she got from Corianna. Again luck was not on Dyara's side as she couldn't move behind Mutamin because the basilisk was guarding his back. Nevertheless Dyara attacked... only to score a critical miss. Not sure what spells the mad mage would cast at her Dyara decided to go invisible again. She moved behind Mutamin, backstabed (for 35 damage) but that didn't killed him. Dyara saved against a horror spell, failed to hit Mutamin, got hit by 'Melf's Acid Arror' and was finally able to kill Mutamin with her next attack. Dyara then fought the greater basilisk, hit it four times (for 54 damage only) when suddenly her 'Potion of Mirror Eyes' wear off... oops. So her last 'Potion of Invisibility' had to go too and the basilisk was badly injured but still alive (and still very deadly).
Not taking any risks Dyara rested, casted 'Prot. from Petrification' on herself, went behind the Greater Basilisk and killed it with a single hit.
For the Kirian fight Dyara recruited Korax, she casted 'Shield' and 'Resist Fear' on herself and used a 'Potion of Freedom'. When Kirian and her friends became hostile Dyara used Algernon's cloak to charm Baerin and then casted 'Grease' from a scroll. Dyara got hit by some spells but just Lindin was able to leave the greasy area - only to become attacked, paralysed and killed by Korax while Baerin was killed by Peter.
Using her bow Dyara killed Kirian who still struggled with the slick ground.
Only a short time later Peter was killed by Korax.
Dyara was a F(5)/M(5)/T(6) now with 52 hp and went back to Beregost to sell some loot. At High Hedge Dyara took Kivan in and went west to Shipwreck's Coast where she did the Kivan quest (Seasnake/Sahuagins) and then let Kivan get killed and rescued by Shoal. Droth then was killed by Kivan and Kivan was send to Friendly Arm Inn. Dyara then became chased by some brutes...
... but managed to shake them off...
When attacked by some sirines Dyara used her 'Helmet of Charm Protection' (it's not that we don't learn from our defeats). At the Lighthouse Area Dyara explored Black Alaric's Cave, found and read the tome and killed the worgs at the lighthouse. When exploring the Archaeological Site area Dyara was found by Captain Brage and had to return to Nashkell without doing the Charleston/Idol of Kozah quest.
At Nashkell Inn Neira didn't want to get lured outside so Dyara fought her inside without the amnian soldiers helping - only to become held and nearly killed...
After buying some potions at Nashkell Carnival Dyara went to the mines and cleansed them without any problems (while SCS added some more kobolds it didn't made it much more difficult and Mulahey was more or less the same).
Back at Naskell the situation became a little bit confusing as everyone (most of the amnian soldiers and Dyara as well) became confused by Nimbul's spell but in the end no bad things happened as Nimbul was killed and Dyara had attacked but hadn't killed one of the soldiers.
Dyara returned to Beregost, went hidden into Tranzig's room and the SCS(?) made the fight very easy as Tranzig started the dialog on his own (and without making Dyara leaving shadows)...
After removing Silke from Beregost map Dyara went to High Hedge to buy the two ioun stones (hadn't enough money to buy the robe). From there she went south to Red Canyons and killed Zargal and friends and the mad cleric Bassilus...
With the 5,000 gold and after selling Zargal's short sword+2 Dyara had enough money to finally buy the 'Robe of good Archmage'. At Fisherman's Lake Dyara fought Teyngan&Friends, helped Drizzt fighting the gnolls and killed Bjornin's half-ogres.
When travelling further south Dyara got ambushed by Molkar's group. Casting Invisibility on herself, using one charge of wand of monster summoning, some potions of healing, a potion of invisibility, a web scroll and another charge of wand of monster summoning Dyara killed them all...
Sneaking past the Xvarts at Xvart village right into the cave Dyara took its treasure and went to Bear River then where she helped Jared and Laurel and killed Neville and the brutes on the northern bridge without any problems. Further south at the Gnoll Stronghold all the caves and the castle as well were explored, its inhabitants were dispatched and Dyara gained her final level-ups.
Another ambush took place when Dyara left the area and was waylaid by Lamalha and her amazons but again one charge of the wand of monster summoning, a potion of invisibilty, a scroll of web and some healing potions made Dyara win the fight without too many problems...
At Dryad's Fall Dyara explored the cave, helped the dryad and fought Ludrug and at Fire Leaf Forest Vax&Zal became victim of Dyara's fighting skills. After selling loot at Naskell, buying some potions at the Carnival, resting at Beregost and buying some spells at High hedge Dyara went to Larswood (killing Teven's group there) and Peldvale (killing Raiken's group as well).
Dyara: 111,295 XP, 573 kills, Greater Basilisk, F6/M6/T7, 66/69 HP
Next stop Bandit Camp - to be continued (hopefully).

I'd completed BG1 many times before ever posting on these forums. Just looking at the number of Photobucket accounts I have I think I must have done BG1 over 250 times solo in total, though I don't keep any records. Gate70 and I have kept records for our MP attempts though and have been through BG1 51 times in those - there are also a couple of Quad runs you know about

Due to looking at the paper dolls, I had made her slightly stockier than the image I took her from. However not so much as to make it obvious. I think that the compromise is about right since there are plenty of humans about with that build. ![]()

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 79 - (3rd and final update)
Risqe, elf wild mage (Grond0) & Pallor, half-elf fighter/mage (Gate70)
This sorcerous pairing started the session by sneaking into the Iron Throne to get directions to Candlekeep. On arrival there they pilfered a few spells from the library before handing themselves in to the guards.
In the catacombs MGoI and mirror images dealt with all the traps while knock opened the tombs. The only problem there was when a skull trap cast at the phase spiders didn't explode - and still didn't when Risqe ran over it while protected by MGoI: it finally triggered just as the MGoI ran out as he was coming back from the tomb.
Prat and his gang didn't like the webs and stinking clouds and died of area damage, apart from one final magic missile for Tam - who had been quite successful in shooting back at Pallor.
Back in Athkatla Slythe thought he was in luck when Risqe's spells were put temporarily out of action when a wild surge got him in touch with his lupine instincts. However, his intelligence was undimmed and he was able to successfully operate the wand of paralyzation with his tongue.
There was a bit more buffing at the palace where Pallor did most of the damage in melee, with Risqe supporting with a few area spells and darts of stunning. The dopplegangers managed to kill Liia, but Belt survived easily enough.
Most of the inhabitants in the maze died easily, although Pallor bemoaned selling the PFU scroll when it took three lots of summoned monsters to help see off the skeleton warriors.
The Undercity party though caused no trouble - all failing to take any action after being stuck in various clouds and webs.
In the temple Pallor didn't have a great start when he set off a lightning trap accidentally - although he did manage to damage Tazok in the process.
His next move was rather better executed though with a long distance dispelling arrow to draw Sarevok out of position. For a bit of fun Risqe used malison on him and then threw in a web. Sarevok found it hard to get out of that and was probably effectively dead well before he eventually broke free long enough to give his final speech.

Quin made it to Davaeorn, and no further. (Edit: that's a no-reload record for me, certainly a sign of progress.)
The strategy: buff up Ajantis to the hilt, make everyone else invisible. Have Ajantis wade in with a pro magic scroll at the ready to use when his buffs expired/were dispelled, while the others stand back out of the way... Nice idea, didn't work.
What happened: I used Faldorn to find the traps leading into the chamber. I didn't realize that disarming the last one would wake up our friend Davaeorn. I fled back to level three to complete buffing. When I went back down to level 4, a whole posse of guards were clogging the staircase, with Davaeorn at their heels. No one could move. Then Davaeorn fired a remove magic at Ajantis. He got the whole party in the area of effect. So much for our invisibility and buffs.
Next came a couple of cones of cold and a fireball... I lasted longer than I expected through that, but in the end, this turned out to be a massacre. I feel like I might have done better solo? Hmm. Back to the drawing board.
Edit: I loaded the game just to see what it would be like solo -- I got much closer to winning by buffing Quin with my remaining potions and green scrolls, and then unloading my fireball wand everywhere, but Davaeorn still came out on top... I'm going to need some more practice.
Edit 2: One more time, and I won. I think my next run I'll do a lot of it with a minimal (or no) party. Although I like the banter...

Good to see you're making progress B_V - I hope Rylan will go one step further for you.
You might want to consider taking along a few potions of magic blocking for a party next time if you're intending to go for the quick kill on Davaeorn. Alternatively you could separate your designated character rather more effectively and then just use a potion of invisibility on them once they've got Davaeorn's full attention. Waiting for a bit for the guards to surround Davaeorn and prevent him moving then gives you the opportunity to turn the spell damage tables on him ...
