Aye, I had that CTD there (approaching the Inn from the North) as well. There will be more (some skeletons wearing bad helmets, guards fighting the Trolls inside Nalia's Keep). That's why I don't install //BG1 Animations for NPCs -> Most relevant creatures: v5// anymore this days. Just tweak my party NPC into BG1 animations with SK and that's it (I don't care about how the rest are looking).

In any case, grats on beating down Sarevok! All the best and save travels for your gang in SoA!

Interesting, thanks. Helmets are indeed the issue, moreover since I have 1pp as well. I also get CTD with Grim archers (I remove their helmets, they look funny now - you only see a pair of hands floating in air! :D ), and now in CCoronet after releasing Hendak. I need to pin this one down, or Slavers quest won't be finishable. :(

I like my whole game to look as original BG1 - whenever I see Corey's screens I want to use Infinity Animations.

In addition, it makes demons quite epic-looking. Hope we live long enough to see them...

Hope to see your Wreckers there soon. Will you be doing completionist run again?

Yeah, me too. But for that me need to make a 100% completionist run (I do it anyway) and look out for any issues, fix them somehow and then don't forget to reapply the fixed creatures each time I reinstall. This might be an issue by itself... :D

Looking forward for that!

Lol. While at it, I think I fixed all IA CTD issues, at least helmet-wise. HELM08 was the cause, changing it's appearance to anything else (like HELM02) fixed it. :)

Good to know, thanks! Seems I'll be able to give them another chance then  :)

No - I'll be doing significantly less in BG1 this time and I can assure you that the Crew won't be hurrying to get to the Twisted Rune either .

Thanks Blackraven - I'll do my best to deliver 2 out of the 3 ...

Wrecking Crew {14} - dwarf fighters (update 2)

The Crew have continued to make pretty serene progress as follows:

- a number of ankhegs tried and failed to get a critical on Carlo on the way to Ulgoth's Beard.
- the most dangerous moment of the run so far (other than a basilisk petrification) was when I was surprised how long it took to kill a mustard jelly in the Valley of the Tombs and Carlo didn't retreat until down to single figure HPs.
Spoiler
- at Durlag's Tower battle horrors needed a critical to hit Carlo and so were an easy source of XP.  Carlo used 3 of the 4 mirror potions bought at Ulgoth's Beard to kill the basilisks on the roof.  They also found a victim to free Kirinhale, though they did kill the ghost (getting everyone to level 6).
Spoiler
- in the Nashkel Mines Mulahey managed to hold Carlo, but never stood a chance of making further progress.
Spoiler
- Nimbul's various forms of invisibility only slightly delayed the inevitable.
Spoiler
- Tranzig scared 2 and slowed 4 of the party, but didn't have the firepower to take any advantage.
Spoiler
- Lamalha ambushed in Beregost, but her holding Carlo as she died was the high point for the amazons.
Spoiler
Still in Beregost I talked to Zhurlong with the wrong character and failed to return the boots, but did teach Silke not to abuse merchants.
- at the Bandit Camp Tazok unfortunately both took a potion of speed and ran directly away after giving up the fight (so no second pair of bracers of weapon expertise).  However, Venkt's death removed the main threat
Spoiler
and the Crew were able to hold their position to beat off all comers - though Al had to offset some hobgoblin poison on Carlo with a couple of CLWs.
Spoiler
At least they thought they had beaten off all comers, only for Molkar to turn up after everyone else was dead.  A minute or two later though and they had beaten off all comers - again.
Spoiler
- going to sell equipment at High Hedge they found Permidion Stark was hostile. Presumably that was a result of fighting the golems earlier.  That resulted in a reputation downgrade.
Spoiler
- in the Cloakwood they successfully defended Carlo when he was webbed while getting Spiders' Bane.
Spoiler
Three simultaneous fireballs then killed the mages to allow easy access to the mine.
- in the mine Hareishan couldn't handle the weight of fire.
Spoiler
Other enemies were only attacked as necessary to clear a route down to Davaeorn.  Carlo managed to whip across his line of sight quickly enough that Davaeorn didn't react - giving him the opportunity to kill one of the battle horrors immediately.
Spoiler
He attacked and killed the other before turning to Davaeorn, while the others kept the entrance free.
Spoiler
- The Crew dodged the slave outside with the intention of going to steal something in Beregost in order to get Bhaal horror, but I rested by reflex first.  Oh well, that's not really an issue with a party.
- They've just arrived in Baldur's Gate.

Semi-off topic, but funny none the less.... Last night we needed to capture Corey's "death" voice recording for a post I was doing. So he rolled up a characture and sent them out to die so we could video it.

http://gettingthebuc...-should-be.html

I find it amusing that he couldn't "die" fast. Guess sending out a hardcore no-reloader-player to die isn't as cut and dry as it sounds.

(I am impressed with the quality of the recording too...I plan to record some of his big fights in the future.)

Thanks everyone for the congratulations! :)
@Serg, thanks, yes I'd like to become as adept at BG2 as I am at BG1. I've considered completing BG1 runs of Glorydd and Sellhana to have three characters in BG2, but knowing myself I'll just continue with Dagny.

Well done Golden/Alexander! Especially with a nerfed character that for being a Barbarian (as opposed to say, a Sorcerer or a Totemic Druid) would have benefited noticeably from maxed physical stats. keep up the good work.

@Wise, glad to see you've got your issue solved. Good luck with final stages of the game!

Afraid the the issues are not quite solved.

I need to run another game to see what the various global settings should be as people are not spawning correctly.

I am therefore going to run an adventurer as I have never run a thief with this set-up. I have rolled a Lightfoot Halfling and a Drow and I am now wondering which to choose. I ran the Drow and despite doing everything correctly got killed by Mendas with one blow, either that or a rat got lucky at the same time. I was under the impression that a level 1 character cannot get killed with one blow, so perhaps a rat did get lucky and take one hitpoint.

A second run-through and used the oil of speed in the training room together with a short sword and was successful in killing Mendas.

Any ideas as to which would make the more interesting game, a halfling or a drow?

Whichever it is, I am thinking of making the character a worshipper of Sharressa.

I was surprised to discover that Sharessa's alignment is good. Does the pc also have to be good to follow her?

Thanks Wise.

I didn't realise that actually, thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

I never actually play like that, but I have had a couple of them on my side accidentally. A cheap way of getting reasonable armour. :)

You'll need a better example, Wise - in vanilla at least, you can sleep in Ulgoth's Beard all you want, no guards ever appear it's a free rest.

I have accidentally charmed a couple of them in Beregost. I assumed that if you can get two, you can get an army. I didn't actually try it. I saw a post a few years ago when someone was fighting an army of hostile guards at the Beard. I would have liked to have had that situation to see if you could defeat them by charming enough of them.

@Grimwald, I'd go with the Halfling. Charname is special enough as it is, with their heritage and all, they don't need to be of a highly uncommon race to be interesting to me. Just my two cents.

Followed your advice.

The Grey Gecko due to his clothes being grey, and climbing ability.

Str 17, Dex 19, Con 18, Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 3.

After the ambush, headed for the Friendly Arms Inn, but something didn't feel right and so I headed southwards towards Beregost.

On the way I was attacked by no fewer than three ghasts. I remembered the advice that Gorion gave regarding fighting ghouls and ghasts: "Keep your distance and pump them full of arrows bolts, bullets or darts." It worked. It was a very long battle, but I started out as a level one thief, but ended at level three.

I have arrived safely in Beregost.

GL to Grey Gecko. If it's not too much of a problem, could you show his portrait, or link it? I love halflings but always have great difficulty in finding decent enough portraits for them.

You cannot really tell that he is a halfling, though the fact that he is Grey Gecko is a bit easier to see.

Well I jinxed it… we got arrested for murdering the leaders and had to flee into the catacombs when someone framed us but good.  Alora proved herself here scouting/ un-locking and de-trapping like a true scoundrel of justice but it was all for nought because like a typical virgin  explorer I stepped into a room to dispatch some peons without respecting them or looking at how my feet land… I managed to get myself frozen in the perfect spot to block my companions from healing me!

Yikes! Condolences, USSNorway.

What happened there, exactly. I can't really see. I see a ghast, I think, and a Flame Strike? What went down?

Best,

A.

Will you be doing another run anytime soon, you think? You were away for quite a while until very recently.

Sorry about that USSNorway. Looks like perhaps Yeslick did a flamestrike from wand of heavens, perhaps on a ghast in an atttempt to save USSNorway's character. There aren't any traps there in vanilla.

Wrecking Crew {14} - dwarf fighters (update 3)

A dodgy session last night nearly saw the end of the run, but ultimately no more lives were lost.

The Crew did a reasonable amount in the City, though not clearing everything like the last lot.  Encounters were basically pretty easy, but that did mean that maintaining concentration was difficult and I only realised almost too late I must have missed a previous hit on Al - resulting in him being taken down to 1 HP - just before Jardak was chunked.
Spoiler
Marek's death got everyone up to level 7.
Spoiler

The only other tricky encounter was at the Iron Throne.  An opening barrage from arrows of explosion did a fair amount of damage,
Spoiler
but both invisible Shennaras survived, as did a couple of casters protected by pillars.  Potions of invisibility allowed the Shennaras multiple backstabs and 2 of the Crew only just survived.
Spoiler

While travelling back to Candlekeep Imoen invited herself into the party and can think herself lucky to escape with just a sore backside after being booted out again.
Spoiler
The ogre magi waiting in ambush failed to affect any of the party with anything more serious than glitterdust and quickly died after being targeted with dispelling arrows.
Spoiler

At Candlekeep more exploding arrows quickly killed the Iron Throne leaders.  The tombs were looted, although there was a careless moment there as well when Al tripped the lightning trap on the way out - wearing the Helm of Defense and the Boots of Grounding that wasn't really dangerous though.
Spoiler

After robbing the tombs Prat's gang got an opening salvo of fireballs.
Spoiler
That didn't quite kill anyone and Prat disappeared - but didn't then move the right way to get out of the way of an exploding arrow blast.
Spoiler

Al briefly reduced his reputation in order to get vampiric touch (even though he's unlikely to make any significant use of that) and the party has just arrived back in Athkatla.
