Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 83 - (5th and final update)
Pasha, half-elf druid (Grond0) & Rholfre, half-elf dragon disciple (Gate70)
An extended session today saw this duo make considerable progress. They started by reviewing the map and seeing that the Bandit Camp wasn't present - so went to find Tranzig. After failing to find him they went looking for Mulahey instead! He should have had no chance after entangle and grease set him up for blind - but the EE appears to script-trigger his conversation if he's blinded so reinforcements suddenly arrived.
However, they didn't do much good and Mulahey had the indignity of having a few more states added to his previous ones - in order they were charmed, confused, dead.
The amazons had no answer to fireballs and lightning blasts. Fireballs seemed a bit iffy in the middle of Nashkel, but Nimbul was about to die anyway before Rasaad used his monk speed to plough through a grease field and pinch our XP with the final blow.
Tranzig was now present and correct and did a good job of resisting a multitude of spells - shame he was less adept at resisting MMMs.
The exterior of the bandit camp went pretty smoothly, but the interior less so when Pasha thought that Venkt was out of action and came into the tent just as Rholfre was about to finish Venkt off, but just in time to catch a horror spell.
That made Rholfre's job much harder as she was trying to keep the enemies attention on her while managing her small store of HPs (diminishing over time as Hakt's poison ticked away). However, she did a sterling job and Hakt was dead and Raemon blinded by the time Pasha came to her senses to apply a bit of slow poison and help finish off.
In the Cloakwood not much was done, but Rholfre did get the opportunity to show her consitution regeneration ability off a couple of times on the way to the mine. A pathfinding glitch there showed Pasha to Drasus, but only after Genthore and Kysus were blinded and Drasus shortly joined them to make finishing the job easy enough.
In the mine they fought as little as possible on the way down to Davaeorn, though Rholfre did show off a nice fireball + breath weapon combination at the entrance to the third level - only one enemy survived that. Downstairs the battle horrors were pulled back one at a time for execution before Rholfre soloed Davaeorn using MMs and MMMs.
There was a couple of oddities int the area. First, Stephan appeared to complain about us killing Davaeorn even before we'd been into the corridor.
Then later the game reported that a mustard jelly had been blinded, but it's actions suggested that was not true.
Rholfre was complaining about not being evil (and thus losing out on a free Robe of the Archmagi). To shut her up Pasha paid for one of those at High Hedge (we almost always have lots of surplus funds anyway) on the way to Baldur's Gate. A rarely done basilisk was used to boost Pasha to level 9 and Vay-ya was then targeted to get Rholfre to level 8. That fight proved more difficult than expected though when Vay-ya disappeared before Pasha could finish casting insect plague (she should have cast it near the mage rather than at her). The result of that was that Pasha was confused (and had to be shepharded by Rholfre to protect reputation) and then scared just as Vay-ya finally died.
Jalantha was successfully plagued, though she was dying by the time it hit anyway. With the geas scroll to hand Lothander was then surrounded in a grease field and died long before he could make his escape
- meaning both characters had boots of speed to avoid the need to wait for each other. Larze soaked up large amounts of spell damage, but there was more than enough to finish off the much more fragile Marek.
The Iron Throne went well, using hit and run tactics up and down the stairs. With all but one of his party dead Zhalimar could see the writing on the wall and called in somebody else to perform the dying.
Even with her spells Rholfre was getting short at the end and resorted to her dagger to finish Alai off.
In Candlekeep the duo were short of spells, but a summoned nymph performed well to help with the Iron Throne leaders.
A couple of knock scrolls were then used to get the tomes. Both characters then had problems with dopplegangers, who seemed to ignore grease,
but eventually they made their way through to Prat. Pasha targeted an insect plague on a summoned dog this time and that proved helpful in finishing off the casters after they were badly damaged by Rholfre's fireballs.
Pasha then fished in her backpack for a PfP scroll, only to realise that she had given the intelligence tome to Pasha and couldn't read it
.
Back in Baldur's Gate Slythe was pulled into some summons and didn't last long. A war dog tried to get Krystin to cast a cloudkill on Quenash, but she was only caught in the fringes and survived at near death - Rholfre suggesting too late to Pasha that she charm Quenash and take her for a walk in the clouds.
At the palace dopplegangers quickly killed some summons and were having a good go at the dukes. Fortunately a couple of them got distracted and attacked Rholfre instead and though Liia died, Belt survived.
The maze was navigated with the help of PfU for the skeleton warriors before the Undercity party got a dose of greasy fireballs - uhm, delicious.
At the temple we were hoping to get some style points by trying to trap Sarevok in grease using doom and malison. That ambition quickly turned to one of survival though after Semaj came out and dominated Rholfre
- leaving Pasha with little she could do against the mage. Luckily she was able to run Sarevok round the pillars and eventually leave him out of sight and once Rholfre came to her senses Semaj was soon history.
Sarevok skipped through some new grease, but after he was malisoned at the second attempt his chances took a nosedive when he was held by a nymph. It soon became clear he had had enough, but couldn't officially say so until the hold released him ...
