The Grey Gecko and Fyrmyn Firehair Continued

We finished exploring most of the area on and to the west of the Beregost to Nashkel road and then began to investigate the Nashkel mines. Just after finding the ring belonging to Joseph, we were attacked by some powerful assassins. Though we defeated them, they badly hurt us and we returned to the surface to recuperate.

Though they had powerful weapons and armour, little of it was useful to us.

We continued downwards and were badly hurt by some kobolds. We did however prevail and eventually came face to face with the cause of the problem, Mulahey.

We killed him and his minions before returning to the Nashkel carnival. We were immediately set upon by ogres, but quickly dispatched them before resting after which we were fully healed.

Bertha, 2nd BG1 update

Bertha and her gang have succesfully killed Davaeorn. We ventured invisible through the mine, Bertha used Pro Magic. This wasn't enough to punch through his stoneskins quickly, thus she started taking damage from the guards there.

Mini and Pelina joined in to clear them out.

20_zpsslmc7h4s.jpg

He fell just as and Acid Arrow was about to hit him to Bertha's flail.

21_zpswyopc3tv.jpg

The city and catacombs posed no  trouble, we speeded through.  I was pretty surprised by Prat's HP pool.

22_zpsv1jxqpx6.jpg

Slythe & Krystin - Pro Magic on Bertha, Slythe got two stabs in, then dies with Paralysis wand help. I ran out, not bothering with Krystin.

23_zps7r6rt99n.jpg

For Dopes, two Chaos scrolls were used + two charges on Greenstone amulet, just in case.

24_zpsyvwmnpt0.jpg

One ran below, but was quickly dispatched. Both Liaa and Belt survived, even if Belt took a hefty beating from Sarevok.

25_zpsw2vmhtsp.jpg

Pro Magic outlasted the maze, so I took down Iron Throne leftovers as well. The mage there tried something with Web casting, but her MGoI expired as she was standing in it :P

26_zpsgu0pjgnr.jpg

As for Sarevok, I had to reload. I have a nasty bug with summoned skeletons. What happens is they wear boots that should be removed once they're created, but they stay on. These boots make them invulnerable (not in the strict sense, but in a way like Pro Evil protects vs summoned demons).

In effect - one skeleton can kill Sarevok, Semaj, Angelo and whatver else is there w/o taking a point of damage - he will be utterly ignored by enemies.

I fixed the bug, but I have to replay the battle - I hope that's ok. :(

@Aasim - I think it's pretty clear the developers did not intend for a single skeleton to wipe out Sarevok and his band - go ahead and reload after the bug is fix, I can't see anyone having a problem with that.

Best of luck with your new run, Aasim!

Bertha, Mini, and Pelina should make a devastating trio. Maybe this run with be the one?

Good hunting!

A.

Thanks, that's the plan. Then again, bad things do happen..

Anyhow, here's how Sarevok battle went.

Briefly- I used a bucketload of summons to have Semaj & Angelo waste their most powerful spells (I have that SCS option to remove Dispel arrows from game and forgot to pick the two from Durlag's). Worked for Semaj, Angelo seems quite a bit better scripted and ignores them or kills them in melee.

Angelo, unlike others, searches around. With his imp.ivis. removed (Detect Illusions skill) he became vurnerable to Paralysis wand - two charges are launched, he succeeds one and fails the other.

27_zps0gurnqfx.jpg

Thus becoming the first victim of the battle (after my summons and bats :D )

28_zpscxkbxhk8.jpg

We kill the skeleton and summon some more.

Semaj's Sunfire.

29_zpskwj9zmqj.jpg

I summon one more batch and drop Cloudkill onto them, followed by Fireball. This kills Semaj.

30_zpsqndaorw1.jpg

Now, Diramid. I had Mini backstab him repeatedly. There was one dangerous moment when her invisibility 10' radius got disrupted. She barely survived..

31_zpsyitkcg3i.jpg

Diramid didn't.

32_zpsecz0lcgn.jpg

Now I use my 2nd Wand of MS. Sarevok follows the summons around (which panicked due to Skeleton Warrior's presence) while we finish off Tazok.

33_zpsxrbzpnml.jpg

Wand got expended, but it didn't matter. It bought us enough time to slap him with Magic missiles/slingshots/arrows and he gave up.

34_zpswgx7b13q.jpg

Bertha and her comrades will be proceeding with their game in BG2 thread.

Phantasmic Six - monks party (update 5)

It's been hard going for Chimera & co this morning, but they have finally arrived in Baldur's Gate.

At the Bandit Camp the monks attacked and then ran - turning and fighting occasionally - for quite a while.  They then all used stunning blow and attacked Taugosz - successfully immobilising him.
Spoiler
About then Venkt arrived and a volley of potions of explosions killed him and wiped out the immediate support.
Spoiler
Taugosz died before he could recover and the wand of sleep helped thin out the remainder.  When Ardenor Crush was stunned the battle was effectively won.
Spoiler

After resting they looted the main tent and left.  Bentan and a spot of thieving in Beregost reduced reputation before they made their way to the Cloakwood.  Arriving at the web trap area they were greeted with 3 phase spiders and had to quickly kill those to be able to rest to cure poison.  Moving on to confront Centeol they pulled some spiders outside and used stunning blows to quickly kill the giant spiders.  I was just writing up my notes to say it had been a successful battle when I noticed that Spectre was dead  - looking back at the text she had been poisoned by an ettercap without me noticing.
Spoiler

After the expense of yet another trip to the temple I decided to raise some money by calling on Bassilus.  Everyone stealthed together to get into position for a stunning surprise attack.
Spoiler
They then went on to Durlag's Tower to have a go at the basilisks.  Although there was no need for it, I was keen to kill them for the use of only 3 mirroring potions (having failed attempting that recently).  A successful stun on the second greater basilisk allowed Spectre to go on to the third while the others finished the job on the previous one. Spectre looked like she would finish with a bit in hand, but I was getting nervous when she missed 3 times in a row before finding a killing blow.
Spoiler
Wraith has scimitar proficiency so was chosen to dare the trap to get a +2 weapon.

Back in the Cloakwood the monks went to sort out Centeol before moving on.  At the mine Drasus was pulled away from the others and initially looked like he would be beaten down quite quickly.  However, the tide started turning and he had hit the whole party once (fortunately with no criticals) before a puny magic missile finished him off.
Spoiler
After resting the party looked for a quick kill by stealthing in for stunning attacks.  I would have been disappointed if neither of the mages had been got, but as it was the initial assault on Rezdan bagged him and then Kysus was tagged as well on the follow-up.
Spoiler
Their stoneskins allowed both of them to revive very briefly, but neither could take any further action beyond falling to the ground.  The monks then had no more stunning blows, but they didn't need any for Genthore.

In the mine they used stealth to bypass Hareishan and continue on to Davaeorn.  Ideally just Spectre would have tanked Davaeorn, but their stealth wasn't good enough for the others to keep out of the way and they got attacked near the entrance.  They bounced up and then down again, but were too late leaving the second time and a critical arrow killed Spirit.
Spoiler
Unfortunately, although her body was upstairs, her gear was downstairs, so they had the difficult problem of all getting stealthed at once in order to go back down and get it.

After the long trip back to find a temple they returned - but didn't even make it back to Davaeorn when stealth failed at the wrong time and Hareishan's guards swarmed them where there was no room to manouvre.  It was lucky the mage herself didn't join them, but the upgraded SCS guards are decent warriors and by the time they were all dead only 2 of the party survived.
Spoiler

After picking up the more valuable gear they went again to find a temple and re-equip before returning once more.  With nearly all Hareishan's guards already dead they decided to take a bit of revenge on the mage.
Spoiler
Downstairs, unfortunately the guards had changed positions and it was no longer possible to get back up.  I'd tried for a while to get everyone into stealth, but failed at that, so they were vulnerable even though Davaeorn didn't seem to be around (he was in the side room surrounded by a few guards, so unable to investigate noises.  A couple of fireballs did some self-inflicted damage, but also cleared a bit of room, although meanwhile Spirit had died - again.
Spoiler

Finally back again the party saw that Davaeorn didn't have many guards left.  They bounced up and down a couple of times before Davaeorn cast a sunfire - then he had none left!  He tried and fail to cast another one of those before joining them upstairs for a grand finish.
Spoiler
After resting to get horror and dodging the slave they've arrived in Baldur's Gate.  Everyone except Spirit is ready to level up to level 7 - her death count is really suffering from the poor HP rolls she's had (averaging 2.2 on a d8 so far).

Phantasmic Six - monks party (6th and final update)

In Baldur's Gate the monks started off sorting out Arkion and Nemphre - getting to level 7 in the process and gaining the ability to lay on hands.  For some reason in this installation Arkion's amulet can't be retrieved from Nemphre's body, so Ordulinian couldn't hand over vast quantities of XP.  However, they pressed on undaunted leaving a trail of stunned victims across the city - Marek was one of many.

Most fights were straightforward.  The ghasts in Ramazith's Tower paralysed 3 of the party, but without ever being in with a chance.  An exception however was Drelik.  His mage spells, magic resistance, backstabs and large number of invisibility potions made him dangerous and a critical backstab one-shotted Spectre.  However, that was the last of his 7 or 8 backstab attempts and he died shortly afterwards.

The Mountain Mauler casters were all quickly shut down and although Gretek put up a good fight he was never going to win on his own.  There was no need for magic items there, but wands were used to do most of the damage to doom guards and battle horrors next door.

However, it was a case of so far so good until they decided to fight Sunin.  I was too slow to react when he used a chromatic orb minor sequencer and the first spell hit Spirit, petrifying her, before the second one destroyed the statue.  A second or two later, and much, much too long, Sunin died of a couple of wand blasts.

With not much left to do in the city anyway Chimera headed straight for the Iron Throne.  The opening there with stealthy fireballs went well, but then Gardush made a mess of the monks with his hasted dual-wielding attacks.  Eventually the others resorted to wands to kill him, after watching Phantom get cut down and then looked to rejoin Chimera.  He had been left safe on the level above well out of sight of anyone - but somehow it appeared Naaman had found him and when the others arrived they found Chimera confused and low on HPs!  They arrived in time to distract Naaman, but Chimera was not being co-operative and there wasn't much left of anyone before they were able to kill Naaman. However, after a visit to the temple to heal they came back to finish off the last few opponents.

Returning to Candlekeep I decided not to bother making anyone invisible, but just go straight to hand the book in.  In previous installations that triggers an area shift, so I didn't worry too much when Chimera was stunned by a chromatic orb.  However, this time nothing happened, so I guess SCS changes that script to prevent travel if the party is not fully under control.  I must admit I had considered that as a possibility and probably would have made at least Chimera invisible to prevent it if Spirit hadn't been chunked (and certainly the others would have acted much quicker to rally round in support).  Although that probably wouldn't have reduced the party's chances (as fewer higher level monks would stand more of a chance than more lower level ones) the rationale for the game was to keep a full party at all times.  As it was therefore, by the time the others arrived to try and distract the attacking ogre mage the second of two attacks on the stunned Chimera had proved fatal ...

That's a shame Grond0. You had done well up till the Ogre Mages. Fwiw, I've had area shifts with parties that werent' fully under my control after the Keeper of the Portal received the book. I think this was with charmed characters.

The Grey Gecko and party were wiped out by a good, but deceived party at the Friendly Arms Inn.

I thought that the party was going to be victorious as one of the enemy was near death and another badly injured, but it didn't quite work out that way. :(

Phantasmic Six {2} - monks party (update 1)

Starting again the monks went straight for Meilum - having to work hard to get past a couple of kobold groups.
Spoiler
After shooting him down, Spectre took the bracers and went to tank the basilisks.  Everyone got up to level 3 there.  Mutamin was run around without being given the chance to talk, but Kirian's party were left for now.

Doing reputation quests took them to level 4. There were no real problems there until taking on the ankheg nest - criticals there were potentially dangerous, but everyone survived to return the farmer's son and get reputation to 20.
Spoiler
They did their shopping at Ulgoth's Beard, including getting the wand of heavens.  That's going to get used quite a bit more this time round and helped kill the battle horrors at Durlag's Tower to get everyone to level 5.
Spoiler

Shortly after that the party had their first death.  That was a bit unfortunate when they had a greater doppleganger almost dead (with mirrors and haste gone).  However, just losing sight of a nearby encounter point resulted in some dopplegangers appearing there.  That prompted me to send Spook to run past him and he immediately lashed out at him to finish him off.
Spoiler

Chimera - L5, 32 HPs, 20 kills
Spectre - L5, 39 HPs, 41 kills, 0 deaths
Phantom  - L5, 39 HPs, 32 kills, 0 deaths
Wraith - L5, 38 HPs, 23 kills, 0 deaths
Spook - L5, 34 HPs, 24 kills, 1 death
Spirit - L5, 37 HPs, 19 kills, 0 deaths

Phantasmic Six {2} - monks party (2nd and final update)

Playing too much today caught up to me back at Durlag's Tower when I was slow to react to Wraith having a pathfinding problem when trying to retreat from a battle horror.  Almost immediately afterwards I couldn't be bothered to do all the required micro-management facing a large number of ghasts in a small area and 3 of the party died following paralysations.

After clearing inventory the group managed to raise enough funds to pay the temple to restore their companions.  That didn't help restore my concentration though and another assault on the basilisks on the roof came to a sticky end when the first one was stunned, but then resisted a number of further stunning blows and shot off a fatal gaze attack as it was dying ...

That so nearly happened to me in my game.

Fighting all those ghasts just isn't on.

Perhaps with Protection from undead it would be possible. I had to just leave those basilisks as not being worth the danger.

He who fights and runs away lives to die another day. :D
