Phantasmic Six - monks party (update 5)
It's been hard going for Chimera & co this morning, but they have finally arrived in Baldur's Gate.
At the Bandit Camp the monks attacked and then ran - turning and fighting occasionally - for quite a while. They then all used stunning blow and attacked Taugosz - successfully immobilising him.
About then Venkt arrived and a volley of potions of explosions killed him and wiped out the immediate support.
Taugosz died before he could recover and the wand of sleep helped thin out the remainder. When Ardenor Crush was stunned the battle was effectively won.
After resting they looted the main tent and left. Bentan and a spot of thieving in Beregost reduced reputation before they made their way to the Cloakwood. Arriving at the web trap area they were greeted with 3 phase spiders and had to quickly kill those to be able to rest to cure poison. Moving on to confront Centeol they pulled some spiders outside and used stunning blows to quickly kill the giant spiders. I was just writing up my notes to say it had been a successful battle when I noticed that Spectre was dead

- looking back at the text she had been poisoned by an ettercap without me noticing.
After the expense of yet another trip to the temple I decided to raise some money by calling on Bassilus. Everyone stealthed together to get into position for a stunning surprise attack.
They then went on to Durlag's Tower to have a go at the basilisks. Although there was no need for it, I was keen to kill them for the use of only 3 mirroring potions (having failed attempting that recently). A successful stun on the second greater basilisk allowed Spectre to go on to the third while the others finished the job on the previous one. Spectre looked like she would finish with a bit in hand, but I was getting nervous when she missed 3 times in a row before finding a killing blow.
Wraith has scimitar proficiency so was chosen to dare the trap to get a +2 weapon.
Back in the Cloakwood the monks went to sort out Centeol before moving on. At the mine Drasus was pulled away from the others and initially looked like he would be beaten down quite quickly. However, the tide started turning and he had hit the whole party once (fortunately with no criticals) before a puny magic missile finished him off.
After resting the party looked for a quick kill by stealthing in for stunning attacks. I would have been disappointed if neither of the mages had been got, but as it was the initial assault on Rezdan bagged him and then Kysus was tagged as well on the follow-up.
Their stoneskins allowed both of them to revive very briefly, but neither could take any further action beyond falling to the ground. The monks then had no more stunning blows, but they didn't need any for Genthore.
In the mine they used stealth to bypass Hareishan and continue on to Davaeorn. Ideally just Spectre would have tanked Davaeorn, but their stealth wasn't good enough for the others to keep out of the way and they got attacked near the entrance. They bounced up and then down again, but were too late leaving the second time and a critical arrow killed Spirit.
Unfortunately, although her body was upstairs, her gear was downstairs, so they had the difficult problem of all getting stealthed at once in order to go back down and get it.
After the long trip back to find a temple they returned - but didn't even make it back to Davaeorn when stealth failed at the wrong time and Hareishan's guards swarmed them where there was no room to manouvre. It was lucky the mage herself didn't join them, but the upgraded SCS guards are decent warriors and by the time they were all dead only 2 of the party survived.
After picking up the more valuable gear they went again to find a temple and re-equip before returning once more. With nearly all Hareishan's guards already dead they decided to take a bit of revenge on the mage.
Downstairs, unfortunately the guards had changed positions and it was no longer possible to get back up. I'd tried for a while to get everyone into stealth, but failed at that, so they were vulnerable even though Davaeorn didn't seem to be around (he was in the side room surrounded by a few guards, so unable to investigate noises. A couple of fireballs did some self-inflicted damage, but also cleared a bit of room, although meanwhile Spirit had died - again.
Finally back again the party saw that Davaeorn didn't have many guards left. They bounced up and down a couple of times before Davaeorn cast a sunfire - then he had none left! He tried and fail to cast another one of those before joining them upstairs for a grand finish.
After resting to get horror and dodging the slave they've arrived in Baldur's Gate. Everyone except Spirit is ready to level up to level 7 - her death count is really suffering from the poor HP rolls she's had (averaging 2.2 on a d8 so far).
