Trio no reload (#1 - update 2)
(Grond0, corey_russell, Gate70)
The fighter all-sorts started the session with a trip to Nashkel Mine. Unsurprisingly the kobolds offered little resistance on the way to Mulahey's cave. The cleric was confronted by an enraged berserker and his plea for mercy was unsuccessful.
Emerging from the mine Ragemage used rage again against the amazons, though Lamalha did manage to create a bit of distance before freezing Forem in place.
Nimbul found his mirrors ineffective as a single swipe from Ragemage finished him off. In Beregost Silke and Tranzig weren't much more successful - each requiring 3 hits, but all within the first few seconds of the combats.
At the Bandit Camp Taugosz and his bandit archers provided a bit more of an obstacle
and the party had to rest and heal up before invading the main tent. Ragemage opened proceedings by accounting for Venkt before his colleagues joined in the fun with the others.
In the Cloakwood there was a scare for Ragemage when he moved too far forward while dragging ettercaps back and found 3 of them attacking him as he got stuck in a web trap.
Fortunately he escaped at the first opportunity before even being poisoned. Deciding discretion was the best part of valour Centeol was left untouched - as was the remainder of the Cloakwood on the way to the mine.
At the mine 1 wizard was down and the second about to join him when Forem got impatient and swapped his missiles for melee weapons. That resulted in him being scared by a last-second horror spell. Without his firepower Miseri and Ragemage were unable to finish off the fighters and Miseri took Drasus for a run round the forest until Forem recovered and the party were able to reconvene to finish the fight.
It was around that point that Corey asked slightly plaintively "how come I'm always the target" as he begged a fresh supply of healing potions. We were of course able to reassure him that he loved it really
.
After several rests inside the mine to heal up Ragemage noticed that no-one had picked up Drasus' boots - a quick trip showed that it was now too late to recover those
. Moving on, combats were minimised on the way down to find Davaeorn. The first battle horror died quickly, but the second caused considerable damage and Forem had to ask for a potion back after stepping in briefly to allow Ragemage to retreat.
If that combat was harder than expected though the reverse proved to be the case with Davaeorn - the mage managing to target himself with a bouncing lightning bolt in a narrow corridor and dying well before the potion of magic blocking used by Ragemage expired (children, don't try this at home).

After resupplying with healing potions at Durlag's Tower the next target was the pirate treasure. The sirines failed to charm or confuse anyone and the golems didn't last long enough to do much damage to the 3 attacking fighters. Ragemage had noted that, unlike the other 2, he could use bracers and it wasn't long before Meilum was persuaded to hand his over.
Travelling north of the FAI for the first time it seemed only reasonable to sort out the ankheg nest. That proved no trouble and Ragemage's boasts about the virtues of his 2-handed weapon seemed slightly hollow a few seconds later when his critical of 40 HPs was almost matched by Miseri's dagger.
There were a couple of worrying moments outside though when Ragemage used auto-follow on the others and found a group of 4 ankhegs on the way to Farmer Brun.
Obviously pleased with the outcome Ragemage did the same again to find another group of 4 ankhegs on the way to the edge of the map before being persuaded by the others that there was something to be said for the use of manual controls! After a quick stop at Ulgoth's Beard the group have arrived at the threshold of Baldur's Gate.
