Corezerk II and his band of berserkers (and thief)

So Corezerk II has successfully defeated all the enemies in the Cloakwood, including many ambushes. As is usual for my parties we leveled to 7 in Cloakwood Area 2. Paja immediately dualed to thief. We then spent about 30,000 gold on her (Shadow thief armor, dagger of venom, crossbow of speed, claw of kazagaroth) - however, I'm sure with her de-trapping, picking doors/chests she will be able to pay that back to the party. The Cloakwood experiences were enough to get Paja to level 6. She only needs two levels to unlock her berserker levels - it's not critical, it's OK if she unlocks it in Amn.

See spoiler for some screenshots of the adventure.

Spoiler

As is my usual technique I used a buffed up fighter to take out Davaeorn (Joshua in this case). He has a potion of invulnerability, potion of absorption, and enraged. He also has all our fire resistance equipment, since he's usually the one taking on mages solo. We also triggered the battle horror traps on purpose - this gave Paja level 6. We bought a few things from Ulgoth's Beard, rested at Wyrm's Crossing, and are preparing to make our entrance in the great city of Baldur's Gate.

Party Stats:

Hanna, level 7 dwarven berserker, 58 HP, 422 kills, Greater Doppleganger

Joshua, level 7 dwarven berserker, 82 HP, 582 kills, Greater Basilisk

Forrest, level 7 half-orc berserker, 84 HP, 353 kills, Seniyad

Misty, level 7 halfling berserker, 78 HP, 203 kills, Doomsayer

Corezerk II, level 7 gnomish berserker, 79 HP, 125 kills, Sirine

Paja, level 7 human berserker (inactive) >  level 6 thief, 60 HP, 210 kills, Mustard Jelly

@Blackraven.

Not sure that Lady Longsword will get to Amn soon.

We have a dragon fight to recover from and we are planning on doing the Drizzt Saga too.

Baldr049.jpg

After this we fought through literally hundreds of orcs and elite orcs on the way to Beregost. It was a wonder that we survived.

Baldr050.jpg

This is just a fraction of the orcs that we fought.

We were expecting to meet up with CúChoinneach on the way, but he didn't turn up. :(

(Just as in last game. I am wondering if files have been overwritten by another mod.)

EDIT

CúChoinneach did eventually turn up, it was just that he didn't turn up when he was supposed to according to the walk-through and also as per when I played the mod in Tutu.

He was a real boon when we took on all the undead in the Citadel. He took on many of them unaided, though not always.

Baldr054.jpg

Baldr055.jpg

Bardo missed spotting a trap, with near fatal consequences.

Baldr056.jpg

Imoen came into her own when her level became enough to cast Cloudkill as we came across two Lesser Tanarii.

Baldr057.jpg

It was pure chance that they were unaware of the party as Bardo had been scouting ahead hiding in shadows.

(They had not been there in my previous game. Sadly there was a bug which caused CúChoinneach to keep leaving/rejoining upon leaving the Citadel. When he had just left, we nipped inside and Imoen cast invisibility 10' this stopped the loop we were in. :)

If anyone plays DSoSC remember to kick him out of the party just prior to leaving the Citadel. This avoids the bug.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 95 - (1st and final update)

Frindall, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dhaorem, human dark moon monk (Gate70)

This latest random pairing were generated a couple of weeks ago, but we hadn't managed to give them a start until today - when we were able to make up for the delay :).

They got their first couple of levels from Shoal and while travelling through Beregost and down to Nashkel.  On the way to Firewine they should have earned their first reputation upgrade, but when kills are made by the client computer in MP they sometimes don't get counted - we didn't bother fixing that bug.

Spoiler

I thought rage might give Frindall a chance of tanking Meilum at that stage, but that didn't work out and he tried for a while hitting Meilum with a non-proficient bow while Dhaorem ran him round - until eventually tiring of that game and putting in a successful blind.

Spoiler

Looking for more easy XP Frindall led the way to the basilisks - they were all quickly meleed with the exception of shooting Mutamin's pet.  The mage didn't last long against an enraged assault.

Spoiler

To avoid risks Korax was recruited for Kirian's party and did his job there.  Dhaorem was held just before Peter was killed, but Lindin didn't have time to take advantage.

Spoiler

There was more quick XP on offer at the Lighthouse as 2 lots of sirines found their charms ineffective against rage.  The golems were more successful with difficulties in targeting them with arrows along the twisting passageways - but they all fell at last.

Spoiler

Greywolf was the first of a number of reputation increases to maximise that before the pair moved north to sort out the ankhegs on the way to shop at Ulgoth's Beard.  Then it felt like time to move in on Mulahey - who attempted to run, but didn't get far.

Spoiler

Outside the mine's back door Frindall hit a problem when his attempted rage was interrupted by the amazons.  That led to both characters taking more damage than was comfortable before finishing things off.  In the course of that Frindall was tagged by a poisoned dart and eventually agreed to Dhaorem's entreaties to use an antidote poison before his HPs dropped below 15 (which would prove fatal when rage wore off).

Spoiler

Tranzig saw no mercy and neither did Nimbul - though, not for the first time, Rasaad stole the XP for the latter.

Spoiler

At the Bandit Camp Taugosz and nearby bandits caused a fair amount of damage, before he was blinded - resulting in a rest before invading the leaders' tent.

Spoiler

Inside Venkt saved against blindness, but that didn't save him for long.

Spoiler

We didn't bother with Spiders' Bane on the way through the Cloakwood to the mine.  Drasus was pulled away from his friends there before Dhaorem did a good job of sneaking in to poison the mages with his dagger while Genthore chased Frindall to his doom.

Spoiler

After progressing smoothly down to Davaeorn Dhaorem had partial success with the same stealthy tactics, but was eventually held by the mage.  However, Davaeorn's final spell was interrupted by Frindall arriving post-haste and he had no chance of getting through the monk's HPs before his own were gone.

Spoiler

There was a delay getting into the city when the trigger for exiting the mine failed to unlock the bridge - fortunately a bit of inside knowledge from Gate70 soon saw things set to rights.  Inside Baldur's Gate the poison quest went smoothly, though Larze put up a reasonable fight.

Spoiler

Balduran's Helm & Cloak, the ogre gauntlets and Ramazith's tower were other targets before Dhaorem sneaked into the Iron Throne.

Back at Candlekeep the duo also left Rieltar alone before going down into the catacombs.  Frindall gave Dhaorem a potion of absorption there, but he didn't use it.  That almost led to a first death for him when he triggered the trap near the spiders for the second time - but the magic resistance from Balduran's Cloak saved him from potentially fatal damage.

Spoiler

Prat's gang were also left alone, though a PfP scroll from the Iron Throne allowed the basilisks to provide a bit more easy XP.

After a bit of final shopping Slythe was pulled away from his magical support and quickly smacked down.

Spoiler

At the palace the duo used some potions to try and clear the dopplegangers quickly.  That was done, although they still managed to kill Liia and hit Belt a number of times - it was thus a relief when the last one fell.

Spoiler

After clearing the maze the Undercity party were also left unmolested (both characters had got their final BG1 level by that time anyway).  Inside Frindall sneaked up to successfully target Sarevok with a dispelling arrow.  That triggered Semaj to teleport out, but more dispelling arrows meant he didn't last too long.

Spoiler

Dhaorem then drew Sarevok out alone - although Angelo threw a long distance dispel magic to support him.  Initially Frindall started targeting Sarevok with missile weapons before remembering how few HPs the big man has in BGEE (by comparison with BGT).  Moving into melee a few hits were sufficient to make Sarevok surrender.

Spoiler

Here are character records taken on arrival in Jon's dungeon.

Frindall%20L8_zpsdxwfzxjb.jpg

Dhaorem%20L8_zpsqyzavsuz.jpg

Stats:

Frindall, berserker 8, 81 HPs, 267 kills

Dhaorem, dark moon monk 8, 54 HPs, 85 kills, 0 deaths

Wrecking Crew {15} - dwarf fighters (update 5)

Well done Corey - maybe see you in Amn sometime.

Before doing too much work in the City the Crew donated at the temple and then did a few quests to push reputation back up to 20.  In the course of that they killed Ragefast and released his captive nymph.  Making use of the nymph's hair to make a cloak they noted that this seemed rather pricier than expected :o - not really needing funds though they didn't bother selling it anyway.
Spoiler

After buying some potions and ammunition they did the poison quest - picking up a second pair of boots of speed in the process.
Spoiler
They then acquired the Helm and Cloak of Balduran - Degrodel getting the standard mage treatment on the way.
Spoiler

They also dealt with Ramazith and his Tower in order to get an upgraded ring of protection for Carlo.  At that stage I decided the Crew would carry on with the main quest before finishing the rest of the City encounters.  They opened at the Iron Throne with a round of arrows of detonation before retreating downstairs.
Spoiler
Initially only casters followed and I was concentrating on those and didn't react quickly enough when Gardush turned up a round or so later.  In SCS he's formidable in melee and his oil of speed made that still more the case as he made short work of Vito.
Spoiler
Carlo, with by far the best AC, then managed to occupy him for long enough to be finished off.
Spoiler
Alai followed soon after, allowing the others to run to the Temple before returning to finish off the last couple of enemies.

After being told to travel back to Candlekeep they arrived to be 'surprised' by some ogre magi.  They didn't do any advance preparation or use defences there, but everyone saved against various chromatic orbs and they won the battle comfortably.
Spoiler

Inside the library the Iron Throne leaders clearly were not going to stand for any nonsense - so were left lying down.
Spoiler
The traps in the catacombs were not really a problem for HP characters and Carlo used a potion of storm giant strength to loot the tombs.  Ghasts, dopplegangers and spiders gave a bit of light exercise before the Crew took on Prat & co.  There were no buffs used, but a dart of stunning got Sakul early and Prat's attempt to cast after disappearing was interrupted by elemental damage.
Spoiler
Clearing all the spiders got everyone to level 8 even before the basilisks.

Before resting the Crew went to Firewine and killed Bentan and Poe to reduce reputation (in order to get vampiric touch Bhaal ability for Al).  They also finally got around to acquiring Meilum's bracers before tackling Kahrk.  After he'd used most of his spells and was ripe for finishing off he used a minor sequencer to disappear and wouldn't show himself again.  After resting they tried again - this time to prevent him disappearing again they used arrows of explosion for a quick kill.
Spoiler

Al used green scrolls of fire and lightning protection to go through the traps in the Firewine Ruins before Carlo tried to attack Lendarn using a scroll of magic protection for the first time.  The mage was another to pull a disappearing trick though and Al had to expose himself twice to tempt Lendarn back into sight and allow Carlo to finish him off.
Spoiler

Looking to finish off remaining areas they went to Ulcaster.  Icharyd was cut down quickly, before his lightning strikes could do much damage.  A first use of fireballs softened up the Wolf, but it still managed a Howl of Terror to send 2 of the Crew running before the others finished the job.
Spoiler

The large group of spiders in the Red Wizard area only managed to web 1 character
Spoiler
and the Red Wizards themselves died soon after their leader was stunned.
Spoiler
However, a couple of giant spiders successfully managed to poison Al and he failed to cast a slow poison on himself as the poison kept ticking and ticking ... and ticking.  For another of the Crew I would have just left them to die, but since antidotes are not actually prohibited in this run Al did eventually consume one when his HPs were down to 2.
Spoiler

With only Baldur's Gate of the non-TotSC areas not yet fully explored and cleared the Crew have arrived back in the City.

Al - L8, 97 HPs, 537 kills, ***** longbow / * longsword
Carlo - L8, 92 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm, -8 from Claw), 419 kills, 0 deaths, **** flail / ** sling
Baby Face - L8, 85 HPs, 388 kills, 1 death, **** 2-handed sword / ** crossbow
Bugsy - L8, 89 HPs, 236 kills, 0 deaths, **** katana / ** dart
Vito - L8, 89 HPs, 377 kills, 2 deaths, **** halberd / ** shortbow
Mad Dog - L8, 87 HPs, 348 kills, 0 deaths, ***** axe / * dual wielding

Trio no reload (#1 - 3rd and final update)

(Grond0, corey_russell, Gate70)

Today's session started with the trio entering Baldur's Gate.  Their activities began there by running through the poison quest.  With only 3 of them they were unable to box Lothander in to get his boots of speed, but were too much for Marek - he did well just to get a lightning bolt away to injure Ragemage.

Spoiler

Ramazith's Tower produced another tome and Jardak was relieved of the Helm of Glory before an assault on the Iron Throne.  Ragemage used a protection from magic scroll to assault the casters while the others helped out.  Forem failed to defeat Gardush in a stand-up fight, so had to do a bit of running before Miseri could step in to double-team him.

Spoiler

While the scroll was still active, Ragemage picked out a few more magic using opponents to slaughter, including Sunin.

Spoiler

Arriving at Candlekeep Ragemage pointed out that the plan for Miseri to top up a cloud giant strength potion with DUHM was flawed - as a wizardslayer he can't use strength potions.  After a quick trip to Baldur's Gate to get storm giant strength instead the trio left Rieltar alone on the way down to the secret library.  Ragemage used another scroll of magic protection here to loot the tombs, along with the strength potion and a scroll of protection from poison to ensure the phase spiders didn't get lucky.  While the magic protection was active the trio hurried along to find Prat and quickly took out his party, although Forem did get confused at the end of that.

Spoiler

Yet another green scroll then allowed Ragemage to kill the basilisks as well.

Back in Baldur's Gate Slythe didn't last long against 3 fighters.  The intention then was for Forem to encourage Krystin to cast a cloudkill that would kill Quenash.  However, the targeting was marginally off and Forem didn't manage to push Quenash into the cloud - instead eventually deciding just to slaughter her and take the reputation hit.

Spoiler

The palace was a pretty easy fight with the dopplegangers managing few hits on Belt or Liia before they were all mown down.

Spoiler

After passing through the maze, with the help of a protection from undead scroll against the skeleton warriors, the Undercity party were bypassed on the way to the ruined temple.  Sarevok was pulled out alone there and soon hit by a dispelling arrow from Ragemage.  However, not much in the way of potion support had been carried down - meaning no-one had an oil of speed.  That allowed Sarevok to maintain a threat as he chased hard after his opponents and was only slowly worn down by missile shots.  Eventually though he got to near death and Miseri judged it should be possible to finish him off with a joint melee assault.  Ragemage was concerned about his low HPs and didn't want to join in, but Forem lent a helping hand sword and Sarevok gave up just as he hit Miseri for the second time and forced him to start to withdraw.  Adding insult to injury Forem successfully got a further swipe in on Sarevok after he was already supposedly dead.

Spoiler

Miseri, wizardslayer 7, 86 HPs, 151 kills

Ragemage, berserker 7, 75 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 136 kills, 0 deaths

Forem, kensai 7, 74 HPs, 171 kills, 1 death

Yippee! Corey and Grond0... miss longsword will have to get a move on?

She will indeed. :D

She has cleared the area where Otho's nephew was killed and so has quite a few nice items which should make the Drizzt Saga much easier. Now has three pairs of boots of the cheetah for instance.

Sadly a bug in the mod means that I cannot finish the quest as Trollslayer's dialogue is messed up.

This is a problem with the original mod, but don't know if the same patch can be used for EE.

I'm not risking changing anything until I know.

With my set-up I can't start the Drizzt Saga until I finish Durlag's Tower, so don't expect any quick end.

Lady Longsword is quite powerful enough to defeat Sarevok with ease.

However, I would like to see how the Drizzt Saga works in EE.

Only real problem that I have had is that Bardo Furfoot every now and then goes hostile. I think that he remembers accidents when trying to find the nephew.

When he died, I had him raised. I then had to dispell magic to lose his hostility to the party.

I had to do that twice. :(

Since I cannot finish DSoSC, it is time for Durlag's

I'll see if that is bug free.

One interesting item that I found is a helm of opposite alignment.

Pleased about that as it is now impossible to get it from the demonknight at the top of Durlag's Tower. :(

Sadly someone changed the coding to the spells to made it impossible.

@USSNorway, Wise: I think Grond0's dwarven fighters are still working on it. It was our Trio (Gate70, Grond0, me) success that Grond0 had documented.

Wrecking Crew {15} - dwarf fighters (5th and final update)

Back in Baldur's Gate the Crew raised their reputation back to 20 (although they had to give up a useful pair of bracers to Noralee to do so).  Before working through the remaining City encounters they carried on with the main quest in order to avoid having to dodge guards.  In the Undercellars Slythe failed to run the gauntlet of missile fire to close with the Crew.
Spoiler
Carlo then exposed himself to save against a couple of chaos spells before the others joined in to work through several lots of Krystin's stoneskins and mirrors.

At the palace they didn't use any buffs, although there were some arrows of dispelling used on the mage while Carlo tried to focus melee attacks on him.  Both Belt and Liia survived.
Spoiler

With that out of the way they started working systematically through all remaining encounters in the City.  Ones of potential interest included:
- Cythanria's golems were pulled away separately to expose her and a couple of dodges using the stairs helped finish her off.
Spoiler
- a hail of missiles sent Sunin running, but he had gone invisible and wouldn't reappear.  The Crew eventually went to rest for a day - interestingly on returning Sunin was visible, but still scared and was quickly shot down.
Spoiler
- I couldn't remember whether killing Phandalyn in this installation lost reputation - it does :(.
- weight of fire allowed a comfortable victory when invading the Flaming Fist HQ.
Spoiler
- Gretek was the only one of the Mountain Maulers to get a couple of good hits in at the Helm & Cloak.
Spoiler
- Drelik's invisibility potions and backstabs are a potential danger, though not too bad against fighters.  The Crew were only hit by one of his backstabs, though they also had to take evasive action against a chaos.

With everything cleared the Crew looked to some TotSC content by showing themselves to Shandalar at Ulgoth's Beard.  He immediately dispatched them to the Ice Island where they used invisibility to trigger all the traps before taking on the mages.  Again weight of shot proved decisive there with only Tellan putting up a good fight - his defences being mixed with dashing all over the place thus making it difficult to target him.
Spoiler

Next up were the doggies.  While getting the sea charts the Crew loaded up on magical ammunition to shoot down the opposition.  Working up through the ship Carlo would distract the enemies allowing the others to attack from the rear.  At the final level they dragged the mage back down 1 level to finish it off before returning upstairs.  I've died to traps here a couple of times, but Al's 60% fire and 70% lightning protection proved sufficient this time.  Back in the village the Crew cleared all the enemies before making their way to the ship.  They were careful to avoid taking any real damage during this as resting is not a good idea once you've been infected with lycanthropy .  At Ulgoth's Beard they killed several Loup Garous (duplications resulting from them dodging spells from Mendas) before being left with the transformed Mendas.  With only 2 non-proficient weapons that could damage it Carlo and Babyface both used potions of storm giant strength and oils of speed and soon got the killing blow.
Spoiler

I was tempted to do Durlag's Tower as well as that is certainly feasible with fighters (with the monks the spike traps are a bit daunting), but as this wasn't originally intended as a completionist run (and it's a long time since I was in Amn) I decided to push on to BG2.  The Crew cleared the maze and the Undercity without problems and moved on to find Sarevok.  Carlo used an invisibility potion to lead Sarevok and the others except Angelo in a corner.  Angelo's opening chaos was foiled by potion protection and a hail of missiles, including dispelling arrows, made short work of him.
Spoiler
Fireballs then killed Semaj and Tazok from out of sight.  By the time the resulting skeleton warriors were shot down Diarmid's scroll of magic protection had expired and he also fell to fireballs. With all the skeleton warriors dead everyone used invisibility potions to evade Sarevok's rush and then fully buffed up for the first time - that resulted in Sarevok's 260 or so HPs disappearing in about a round.
Spoiler

Al - L8, 97 HPs, 596 kills, ***** longbow / * longsword
Carlo - L8, 92 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm, -8 from Claw), 465 kills, 0 deaths, **** flail / ** sling
Baby Face - L8, 85 HPs, 416 kills, 1 death, **** 2-handed sword / ** crossbow
Bugsy - L8, 89 HPs, 261 kills, 0 deaths, **** katana / ** dart
Vito - L8, 89 HPs, 414 kills, 2 deaths, **** halberd / ** shortbow
Mad Dog - L8, 87 HPs, 388 kills, 0 deaths, ***** axe / * dual wielding

Epilog
Realising that we hadn't been to Durlag's Tower to get the last tome we went to do that before reporting in to Duke Belt.  We also took the opportunity for some quick XP gains giving a new hair-piece to Riggilo and destroying a few battle horrors along with this doom guard.

@Grond0 - I think I missed that statement to go into melee - I would have if I had realized you had said that.

By that time Grond0 had gone silent (on mute, or Skype dropped?)

I worked out he was likely to move in for the kill as Sarevok was at near-death, and that's his usual strategy. Should probably have said to you but wasn't certain hence I also kept single-weapon instead of switching to dual in case I'd read his intentions incorrectly and needed to continue throwing things at the big guy.

Yes, I think that they are from DSoSC. I have just finished the quests from that mod and also Durlag's Tower. It is an epic mod that virtually doubles the size of ToSC. Despite its bugginess, I love it. :)

Upon exiting Drizzt told me to meet him at Ulgoth's Beard. I left everyone except Imoen at the Friendly Arms Inn and went to meet him, expecting to be whisked away. It didn't happen. What is more Regis wouldn't join us. :(

We were attacked by members of a cult. I told Imoen to hide inside a building as she was getting badly hurt. I meanwhile killed all of those in the cult who were within vision. Then calling Imoen we left to rejoin with my party. They will be needed.

After dealing with the cult, I expect that we will be off with Drizzt.

Level 5 - yet more ankhegs.

The biggest fight so far has been Dushai actually. I don't really understand this. Sometimes, she dies instantly; and village doesn't go hostile. Not in this case - pre-cast Stoneskin + Teleport Field.  Lars runs to the inn and buys some stuff as Dushai follows. Unfortunately, he didn't have enough money to buy Greenstone amulet.

Dushai starts casting disables, and Lars hides behind a wall. He gets held, but Dushai can't see him for now.

I managed to disrupt one of her spells with wand Imoen left me.

Hurgan also joins the fight - Lars quaffs a Potion of Defense (aquired from those 3 stooges in Beregost) and downs him. Dushai is out of spells and pretty harmless now.

Ring of Free Action is now aquired.

Level 6 - some  wolves near Beregost temple.

Now I gather the party I want to use - Viconia, Jaheira and Xan.

To get Xan, Mulahey must die, which he does - Viconia's silence won the day.

Death comes quickly this early, when you're an Enchanter with 17HP....

And again...

We also saved Dynaheir, but she's unavailable in BG2 hence of no use to me. I free her and let her go.

Final ordeal of the day - Morvin & his gang of goons. Xan's wand of Fireballs + Fire Trap + Unholy Blight (affects people regardless of alignment) + Call Lightning  - done.

Sorry to see that Aasim - I was looking forward to more adventures from Lars Oakenshield. Incidentally, I imagine that he must have a pretty interesting family history - for a halfling to have acquired a dwarvish name .

Diary of Lady Longsword

The battle against the cult did not go according to plan as the demon was resistant to cloudkill.

Imoen blasted it a bit with fireballs but had to go invisible as it was coming for her. The entire party therefore went to attack it and managed to kill it before it was able to cast any dangerous spells.

More good luck than good management.

Drizzts advice was somewhat confusing and I left everyone but Imoen behind. A cleric would have been useful to bring along and maybe another fighter such as Strongarm.

Unlike in the past, Bruenor was not there to join us in the nine hells and the battle against Belhifet was VERY touch and go.

However, Imoen cast invisibility and we were able to run away and lick our wounds.

We were then able to kill his cohorts. The plan then was for Drizzt to use stealth and backstabs to kill Belhifet. This would have worked but Belhifet disappeared whilst out of sight. Coward!

The rest of the battles in the nine hells did go according to plan and we survived.

Unfortunately upon our return to Ulgoth's Beard, there was no chance to re-recruit Jet'Laya or buy more provisions.

The party is now in Icewind Dale and currently healthy as I cast DUHM before resting. As a result, I fully healed.

EDIT

Not only has Bruenor not turned up, neither has Regis!

It is just as well that I have Imoen with me.

I should clearly have started with a balanced party of four or five.
