I was fairly happy with the progress of my Wrecking Crew last time getting well into the Athkatla tasks, but would still like to succeed with the much stiffer challenge I've set myself with these monks. Getting them through BG1 in my SCS / Ascension installation would be easy enough in itself, but doing it without any character being killed (and without using any healing potions or antidotes) is a different matter.
However, it's so far so good with the current run. Other than Shoal they haven't sought out any of the easy XP, but they have cleared quite a few areas and are up to level 5. They've also boosted reputation to 20 in the process and it's probably about time to go and do some shopping.
The nearest thing to a death came right at the beginning courtesy of Montaron - Wraith was possibly saved by level 1 protection there.
Spoiler
There was also a nasty moment recently when a slight misjudgement while doing some routine running round led to Phantom being hit by a wild dog. The hesitation in movement that caused then allowed a dread wolf to get an attack in and the resulting critical would have killed someone with poor HPs - like Spook.
Spoiler
Probably the hardest fight they've been involved in so far though was when attacking a group of 4 skeletons in order to get a skull. Two further groups of skeletons apparently heard the commotion and joined in the fight - causing a situation where any of the monks could have been vulnerable to a couple of lucky hits.
Spoiler
Chimera - L5, 35 HPs, 113 kills
Spectre - L5, 41 HPs, 181 kills, 0 deaths
Phantom - L5, 36 HPs, 93 kills, 0 deaths
Wraith - L5, 43 HPs, 101 kills, 0 deaths
Spook - L5, 27 HPs, 98 kills, 0 deaths
Spirit - L5, 37 HPs, 97 kills, 0 deaths

I give up. I finally got past my issues loading BGI/TotSC and I'm back to the problem I had loading Tutu (it doesn't recognize my BGII install). Heck, I can't even get the ToB Patch to work.
So..............
Maybe, I'll play through using BGEE and BGIIEE which I've had since they came out - just never played b/c of the limited ability to use mods. I'm sure much of that has changed.
There's a thread on the Beamdod Forum that goes into all of the mods but it's 16 pages long. Where I can I find a comprehensive listing of ALL available mods for both games. I'd also need an 'order of install' guide. Any tips?
Oh, and does BGII subrace work with EE? I've decided personally, that a Tiefling makes a lot of sense for a PC based on the fact that Bhaal's Throne is in the abyss.
I finally got past my issues loading BGI/TotSC and I'm back to the problem I had loading Tutu (it doesn't recognize my BGII install). Heck, I can't even get the ToB Patch to work.
I can't remember exactly what the difference was, but I do remember posting that the file path you specified for BG1 and BG2 were subtly different. Did you double-check that as a possible cause of your problem, i.e. that you were not giving the installation programme the correct file path?
This is PARTICULARLY important if you try modding EE.
The automatic file paths are often wrong as some mods try to guide you to your vanilla installations rather than your EE installations. If you have the option to use your browser for giving the file path, USE it!!
Having two spaces instead of one can be all-important.
(This also applies when installing a BG2 mod into a BG1 installation, BG2 Tweaks or the sub-race mod for example.)
To get the file path correct, I will often right click a file in the correct location, go to properties, then on the page that you come to there is a line called Location.
Select the path and use Ctrl C to copy the file path and paste it at the relevant time when installing. I find this to be invaluable, particularly with long file paths. That way you will not make any errors in typing the path.
Note: If you use GoG, then you don't need a ToB patch as it is already patched.
I love using GoG as installation is so quick. There is no need to keep a copy of your clean installation as GoG does it so quickly.
(I might make a copy of a mod installation half way through however,)
Phantasmic 6 {41} - monks party (2nd and final update)
After spending all their hard-earned money the monks moved on to the basilisk area. That was cleared without any fuss, getting everyone up to level 6 in the process. The only glitch there was that Shar-Teel initially appeared to be bugged with infinite HPs. By the time she eventually gave in the monks were annoyed with her and killed her anyway.
They carried on, with the intentiono of clearing all areas prior to the Nashkel Mine with the exception of the TotSC areas, Ulcaster and Firewine. For the ankhegs Spectre used 2 scrolls of protection from acid along with the relevant belt. She was actually hit 3 times with criticals by the ankhegs in the nest, but she had responded after the first of those by drinking a potion of regeneration to be able to continue as the tank there. However, with HPs not fully healed she didn't fancy trying any more outside and stealth was used to explore the area without further combat.
The possibility of high value criticals makes the ankhegs dangerous, but the final area to be tackled at this stage is problematic for other reasons. I wasn't too worried about the Red Wizards of Thay, but the web traps, web effect of giant and wraith spiders and quick acting poisons were all potentially lethal. With one character already webbed and 2 poisoned, Spectre made a first use of a potion of freedom here
Spoiler
to avoid being caught as well when fighting the largest group of spiders. A scroll of protection for poison was used on Spectre and Phantom used the Wand of the Heavens to kill the wraith spider before the monks finally emerged victorious.
Though calls for help and respawns made things tricky a couple of times the monks explored everywhere except the ruins where the Wizards hang out. Edging in towards those they triggered a web trap I had forgotten about with an ettercap and giant spider guarding it. Wraith, who had triggered the trap, went one way and took a potion of freedom, while the others went the other way to get out of the web radius.
Spoiler
That was successful, but I relaxed too soon while killing the giant spider and Wraith was poisoned by the ettercap. The monks were far too far away from the edge of the map to run there, but I thought they would have plenty of time to attempt a rest before using their only remaining green scroll. They duly finished off the ettercap with Wraith still having about 20 HPs. They tried to rest immediately afterwards, but the game had not yet fully registered the ettercap was dead and didn't allow it. A second later they tried again - to be told that enemies were nearby and resting was not allowed. That's extremely suspicious as I would have expected any enemy near enough to prevent them resting to have been aware of the fight just ended and joined in. However, the monks moved north as far as possible while trying to rest a number of further times without success. I finally decided that the green scroll would be needed and started using that when Wraith had only 7 HPs left. Regrettably though I was caught out (not for the first time) by the very slow casting you sometimes get with green scrolls (as I normally use those out of combat I've never really internalized the time taken to use them) and Wraith collapsed before her cure arrived.
Aasmaar makes even more sense since you are supposedly a child of a God.
Isn't that the reason for Sarevok's blazing eyes?
I'm just glad that in RL when we become Sons of God, we become friends, not enemies.

Thanks guys. I finally got Tutu to load so I'm pumped and ready to follow Gawain with another PC soon.
If you get a chance, take a look a the ? I posted under the Topic, Cap on the number of Kits and extra NPCs. I'd like your feedback .Thanks, CKT
Starting again, this time I've been making life a bit easier by going after the basilisks early rather than clearing many areas at low level. That got everyone up to level 4, though generally with not very good HPs. Fortunately Spook was an exception - he was the only character that would have survived this critical after I failed to react fast enough to a movement click not working.
Spoiler
Since then there haven't been any more undue alarms. They've cleared a few areas while improving reputation and have just got up to level 5.
While tweaking my BG2 installation I've started another BG trilogy noreload attempt...

It took some time to (let) roll the char .
My previous Dyaras always were specialized in (short or long) bows and single weapon style. However later in BG2/ToB these proficiency points seem wasted as I tend to use a shield or an off-hand weapon. So I decided to go for dual-wielding right away and later I will raise flail/morning star. Also I changed her alignment to chaotic neutral. While I still think Dyara has a good heart (somewhere) there are some things that trouble me. Very often instead of avoiding fights she actively provokes them (Sendai, Kirian for example) and I'm ashamed to admit that she steals... and it's not that she steals from the rich and gives to the poor; no, she steals from everyone - and keeps it for herself. I'm so disappointed and angry .
Other than that there isn't much to tell so far... after the ambush Dyara went to Friendly Arm Inn, to Beregost and High Hedge (Mellicamp survived) and Nashkell doing all the easy things (Tarnesh, Marl, Firebead, Spiders, Neira). At the mines then Dyara challenged Greywolf and thanks to being much stronger and her better armor class she won easily...
Spoiler
Instead of entering the mines she left the area to explore the south-east (Gibberling Mountains, Valley of the Tombs, Lonely Peaks). Taking the injured Samuel to Gellana Mirrorshade led her back to Friendly Arm Inn. The following days were used to travel the coastal areas to the west of Beregost (Lighthouse, Archaeological Site). The salvation of Captain Brage led Dyara to Nashkell again and from there she traveled south to explore the southwestern part of the sword coast (Fire Leaf Forest, Dryad Falls, Gnoll Stronghold, Bear River, Fisherman's Lake). When fighting an Ogre Berserker and some Elite Hobgoblins a severe storm came up...
Spoiler
Her next journey led Dyara north to Ulgoth's Beard where she bought a cloak and an amulet. Also she pickpocketed Dushai for her 'Ring of Free Action' (after drinking a Potion of Master Thievery, a Potion of Mind Focusing and casting Luck on herself). Now Dyara felt ready for more difficult fights and so Bassilus was her next target. After making herself immune to fire (Robe, Ring and Potion) and 'Hold' spell (Ring of Free Action) she approached the mad cleric. Dyara was able to score some hits but when the cleric summoned the first (invisible) Aerial Servant it was time for a temporary retreat as just one hit of an Aerial Servant would reduce Dyara's hit points to half...
Spoiler
Dyara ran to the west hoping the elemental would follow her. When Dyara managed to hide in the shadows she started to search for Bassilus who in the meantime had summoned a second Aerial Servant and after a while she found him. Ready to dart off a second time Dyara risked an attack on Bassilus but fortunately no Aerial Servant was around; the cleric was on his own...

After claiming the bounty Dyara went east to Mutamin's Garden. The first five basilisks (the four south of Kirian's group and the one to the north) were killed easily. For fighting the remaining basilisks Dyara tried to lure them south to avoid Mutamin joining the fight and potentially dispelling her Protection from Petrification. But that somehow just made the mad mage skip the dialog and made him hostile right away...
Spoiler
Dyara took her chance and successfully stabbed him in the back...
Spoiler
Once all the basilisks were dead Dyara asked Korax to join her for fighting Kirian's group. The idea was that an invisible Dyara, protected by Free Action and good armor class, would approach Kirian, trigger the dialog and then Korax would join the fight paralyzing the enemies one by one. That didn't went exactly as planned because Korax wasn't as effective as assumed...
Spoiler
... and Kirian blinded Dyara with Glitterdust. Nevertheless Dyara managed to kill both Kirian and Peter while Korax killed Lindin...
Spoiler
Korax then was killed by Baerin and a still blinded Dyara stumbled toward where she thought Baerin would be. Eventually the blindness wore off and Baerin joined his companions...
Spoiler
In the Nashkell Mines 'Sleep' spells were used to tame the minor kobolds allowing Dyara to fight their chieftain and the shaman one-to-one...
Spoiler
Inside Mulahey's lair Dyara soon was surrounded by Mulahey and his minions but managed to make the half-orc yield...
Spoiler
So he said at least but when Dyara searched the chest the evil cleric and another wave of kobolds attacked a second time. A fireball however thinned the lines and soon the fight was over...
Spoiler
Dyara returned to Nashkell where Nimbul joined the other assassins' fate.

To be continued...
Actually this is my seventh attempt . No. 1 was ended by a ghast after a failed backstab (not sure what made me do that), no. 2 was ended by Kirian when Dyara after a failed backstab failed to save vs. a hold spell (another stupidity as Kirian was the last and was near death already and I could just have used the wand of lightning to finish her... but why waste a charge if you could just stab her ), no. 3 was ended by Bassilus and one of his aerial servants when both at the same time scored a hit on Dyara for apparently combined more than 55 HP before she could get away (very bad luck), no. 4 was ended by Mutamin's pet basilisk when a protection from petrification spell expired suddenly and unnoticed (that's what you get for not paying attention), no 5 was ended by a trap in Durlag's dungeon Dyara was about to disarm and no. 6 ended when Dyara was ambushed by a basilisk and I somehow failed to let her use the potion of mirror eyes in time (sigh).

We never did make it to Jaheira and Khalid in FAI… I had to get the guards help just to survive the entrance so discretion won and I headed south.
Agreed to help a Bard named Garrick rescue the classic damsel in distress... muscle to her cunning? She used me and I’m not having that so we compromised as all couples eventually do… then I skinned a merchant for his coat, fetched a book and asked the FAI guards to help me out again.

Arrived in Nashkel safely via the back roads and the town guard saved me again then I used charm on one bridge guard to improve my dexterity and rescued an exotic treat to achieve my level up.

Don't understand this bridge guard business unless you are talking about the gnoll fortress.

Yes thats the one... I had to retreat after getting the DEX before he snapped out of my charm (had no chance against him in a stand up fight yet) but it was worth the risk.

I think that I had charmed him, I would have got them to fight each other. That way whichever survived would perhaps have been weak enough to fight.
However, you now know that your method worked, and perhaps mine wouldn't.
New character, and new set-up. I have no idea how it will pan out. Whether it will be too hard or too easy. Only one way to find out. Play it.

Diary of Winifred the Wary
Candlekeep went pretty much as normal except that I did more for Hull than fetch his sword. In fact he used his sword to great effect .
This reduced somewhat the stress of being attacked by three assassins. Just as well as not much later Gorion was killed before my very eyes.
After that, it sems to have been one fight after another. South of the Friendly Arms Inn, I was attacked by a dire wolf which I killed. Within sight of the walls of the inn I was attacked by hobgoblins who also perished. Going northwards I was asked by a widow to kill undead just outside her house and having done that some fishermen asked me to kill an evil cleric. However I discovered they were as bad as she was. so I have promised to help her.
Further south in the High Hedge region, I helped get Melicamp back into shape, and at Beregost I calmed Marl down and got some reading for Firebead.
Upon going south I killed a couple of ogrillon and three flaming fist mercenaries who were overly officious and would not accept my warm smile and honest demeanour as evidence that I wasn't a bandit. At least I now have some good armour for myself, and some spare for any others who might want to help.
Not much to say unfortunately. After having a talk to Tranzig at Feldepost Inn I decided to start Durlag's Tower for the tome, potions, spells... Everything went nicely until I decided to fight a phase spider down in Durlag's dungeon. The phase spider turned out to be two spiders actually, Dyara got poisoned, instead of using a potion of invisibility first I used an antidote only to become poisoned again immediately. With hitpoints running low already I tried to get away so I could use a second antidote but it was too late.
I find that if I use Korax, he is much more effective against the basilisks.
Use the wand of monster summoning against that party.
I always think he's wasted against the basilisks as Dyara can handle the basilisks on her own easily (if I don't make mistakes that is ). Also I'm not sure if he (both his hp and his friendliness) lasts long enough to kill all the basilisks on the map.
As for the wand I don't want to waste charges as I don't recharge them.
As I said some of the run's I've seen especially Blackraven's inspired me to do a few more tries with the ol' BG1.
As I said I retired a fighter/illusionist and my kensai died to a sunfire after Kivan failed to kill daveaorn.
I've some screens from the try after that, from a blade. Spoiler: he died..
Here's Wren:
I tried the TOTSC challenges for the first time, I liked them. We got the mages on the hidden isle.
Kivan fell to a trap as we had no thief with us..
So the rest was discovered with a scroll of magic protection.
As I mentioned eventually Wren fell to a backstab at the ducal palace fight. I had him in defensive stand with 55 hp so I thought he would be safe but an improved SCS doppleganger assassin backstab proved me wrong. This was right before he fell..
