@Grond0 - sorry to hear about the end of the monks.
@Borco - The Revenant can definitely be dangerous and has ended a number of runs. This is a reason I prefer to use undead scroll for the undead in the 3 tombs area. If your CHA is high enough you can get a free scroll from the girl with the dead cat.

Good advice I'm sure, though I think they could have done him safely by using the nearby buildings to hop into ...
Jabbar, human Assassin, 5th and final update:
Jabbar vs. Revenant's speed factor - 0:1
Sorry to see that Borco. The published speed factor is modified by a randomly generated number, so speed factor 0 will not always act faster than 1. I've never read anywhere what that random number is, but it's relatively small - I suspect either a maximum difference of 2 or 3. If your weapon speed is a lot faster therefore you will always strike first - thus gnolls for instance are safe for most characters to attack and withdraw before they can respond.
One other point is that both you and your enemies operate within your own personal attack rounds. That means you need to be careful about leaving enough time between attacks to establish a new round. In the case of gnolls for instance if you dart in to attack, then withdraw and come back in too quickly you will find they are still in their original attack round and can hit you instantly as you return ...

PEE-scs30-07,
Assemblage;
Edwin informed me that the mage from gnoll stronghold needed killing…We never did ask why? ... then the two of us polished off some horrors.

After assembling a strong team and flooding the mines we collected the ransom money then stopped a poisoning plot against us for my level up.

Stavemistress is a chaotic Neutral fighter.
http://i1108.photobu...ss/Baldr002.jpg
Yes re-roller was used. No, there are no prizes for guessing what she will dual-class to.
She tries to be good, but is so aware of her shortcomings that she believes herself to be evil. She has little concept of personal belongings which brings her into conflict with the law.
However she is kind-hearted and as a result becomes popular with the local populace who think that she is a heroine to be both admired and emulated.
In Candlekeep she managed to escape being caught after stealing a healing potion. In the inn she was caught by a guard and had to pay a one gold piece fine. A little later she was caught stealing a pearl and as a result was soundly whipped by a new guard, an experience which she did not find entirely unpleasant.
She has an aversion to the likes of both Blackguards and Paladins, the former because of their lack of humanity, the latter due to what she considers an excessive legalism.
On the bodies of the assassins in Candlekeep, she discovers a +2 staff, some bracers and some robes which she is unable to wear.
Upon leaving Candlekeep, she was ambushed and Gorion was killed protecting her. She feels guilty about this, but can do nothing except for ensuring that he has a decent burial in Candlekeep. She was sad that she was unable to be there.
Following the ambush she headed northward. She was repeatedly asked for help. She returned Joia’s ring and helped a woman being pestered by a zombie. She was then able to settle a conflict between a group of fishermen and a priestess of Umberlee without killing anyone, and as a result became a level 3 fighter with *** in staves and ** in two-handed weapons after killing an Ankheg.
http://i1108.photobu...ss/Baldr001.jpg
At that stage she dual-classed to mage and took * in daggers as there had been a decent dagger on the body of Shank. She found that she was also able to wear both one of the robes from Candlekeep and a ring from near the Friendly Arms Inn. That ring enabled her to cast double the number of spells.
She was pleased with herself that she had resolved the fishermen’s’ conflict without bloodshed and headed south again in good spirits.
In Beregost she calmed Marl down and took a book to Firebeard before helping Melicamp get back into shape. She then headed for Nashkel avoiding good and bad alike until she rested at the carnival and gained healing ability. She talked to Noober and helped with some babysitting in Nashkel before heading south where she restored Albert’s hound to him.
Bassilus cast Aerial Servant. Far too powerful for Stavemistress. ![]()

@Grond0: Sorry to hear about the end of the monks once again. I wonder if getting the free action ring before having a party of monks mess with ghasts might be the safer approach. Or even a freedom potion? Or do you not even allow buffing potions?

If your CHA is high enough you can get a free scroll from the girl with the dead cat.
I think that it has to be 18+.
Actually you need NPC reaction: 15-20 to get that scroll. Which depends on both Cha and Reputation. You make a dice roll between 8-12 and then add a modifier from Cha (13:+1, 14:+2, 15:+3, 16-17:+4, 18:+5, ...) and Reputation (14-15:+1, 16-17:+2, 18-19:+3, 20:+4). So with Rep 20 and lowest roll of 8 you can get a scroll even with Cha 15. If you are lucky then Cha 15 and neutral reputation pretty much enough.

In theory I do, although it's been an awfully long time since I actually used any apart from mirroring potions.
Getting a free action ring is not simple. Dushai is a formidable opponent to start with in SCS and when attacked is likely to turn Ulgoth's Beard hostile. I would expect to do that at some stage, but not until the monks were not intending to go back there again.

Stavebearer is a half/elf, Chaotic Neutral fighter/cleric who worships Sune.
Str 18/ Dex 18, Con 18, Int 15, Wis 18, Cha 6
Amazingly, this was the very first roll.

A little later she was caught stealing a pearl and as a result was soundly whipped by a new guard, an experience which she did not find entirely unpleasant. The guard since he took advantage of his position is clearly evil. Perhaps his experiences with Stavebearer will draw him towards Sune and the light. She could but hope.
She has an aversion to the likes of both Blackguards and Paladins, the former because of their lack of humanity, the latter due to what she considers an excessive legalism.
Nearly all the gold she has acquired dishonestly has been given to the temple. Robin Hood eat your heart out.
She accidently killed both Erik and Jondalar which made her feel a bit bad. She hopes that since it was right next to the temple, somebody will have raised them.
http://s1108.photobu...r002_1.jpg.html
When attacked by assassins, she was glad that she had used command upon them as the result was that she wasn’t even slightly wounded. That could have been a problem as they had coated their weapons in poison. One of the weapons she could actually use, a staff +2, whilst the other equipment she put in a bag of holding for later use.
Heading towards the FAI she met a dire wolf which after using “command” she was able to kill.
She slept outside the gate before heading for the inn. Outside the entrance she was attacked by a mage, and realising herself outmatched cast sanctuary. The mage was then attacked by the guards and once they had dealt with his mirror image spell, she cast command on him and brought about his demise.
http://s1108.photobu...ldr004.jpg.html
Thinking that their might be other assassins about, she headed northwards where she killed some hobgoblins before meeting with a widow whose zombie husband was wanting to continue living as her husband. Stavebearer was impressed by this zombie’s love which had continued beyond the grave. However the widow felt unable to return that love, so Stavemistress gave her some gold to enable the widow to set up home in Nashkel Carnival.
Some fishermen asked for some help against a Cleric of Umberlee. Stavebearer dealt with her much to the fishermen’s delight. However, Stavemistress was unsure that she had done the right thing after seeing their reactions.
http://s1108.photobu...ldr006.jpg.html
http://s1108.photobu...ldr001.jpg.html
She headed for Beregost where she calmed down Marl and took a book to Firebead.
Heading southwards she arrived at the Nashkel Carnival. Stavebearer wondered if she would meet the widow again. She slept and gained an innate ability to cure.
Just north of Nashkel she was given a ring by Lord Foreshadow and she strongly suspected that this ring was the reason Bardolan bedded her after she gave him a massage.
She found some Ankheg Armour for which she was most grateful.
As she approached the mines she was attacked by another assassin whom she was able to kill using the command spell repeatedly to avoid harm to herself. She headed back to the carnival to rest again.
http://s1108.photobu...ldr008.jpg.html
She then helped Prism and to her surprise a paladin helped her. When she discovered that she was a paladin of Sune she was less surprised and was glad that they could work together.
The big problem that I have with the Isra mod is that in order to defeat Greywolf, you have to be far stronger than she is.

Merlin is on hold.
So...when it rains, it pours. After all the difficulty getting set up to play BGT, suddenly my CD/DVD drive isn't showing up. I used Microsoft Fixit and it brought it back for a couple of days but then it was gone again.
I've gone in and used all the online Regedit tools etc., but I can't get it back. It's getting power and disks are spinning but it doesn't show up in My Computer and disks won't play...a must to play BGT.
Darn it. I recall, this happened a while ago but then the drive was there again for months. I don't want to buy a new one when I can tell that the other one I have is working.
I love this game too much. I'm going nuts...but I just don't like EE enough to start a game there. CKT

You could always buy BG from GoG. No discs then.
I have done that and prefer it to the discs. ![]()
I think that all you would then have to do is edit the ini file to locate the GoG version of the game rather than the discs.
Ask around to see if I am correct.

CKT has a heavily modded installation, so would need to redo that. It's true that the GoG version doesn't need discs and there would be slightly less work to mod it as it comes pre-patched with the final vanilla updates. However, it would still be necessary to reinstall all the desired mods to the new GoG directory. Once that was done there would be no need to change the ini file - you would just start the GoG programme rather than the old one.

After Isra joined with Stavebearer, a gnome called Skeezer Lumpkin IV joined the party. Since he was an illusionist/thief he had no qualms about doing a bit of pick-pocketting to aid us on our quests. In Beregost he acquired a cloak from a merchant called Algernon. In Ulgoth's Beard he acquired a useful ring, a hammer, and several scrolls. He scribed as many of the scrolls as he could and the party then headed south where they tried and failed to help Mellicamp. At least we had a very tasty chicken roast that night.
Heading westward to the coast they met and killed Shoal and her husband. In the process Isra was killed and raised.
They then returned a ring to Arcand the Mad and got a potion as a reward.
They then killed some carrion crawlers before heading south.
There they met up with Sil who had a very poor opinion of adventurers. Hopefully that opinion has now been improved somewhat.
They then returned a boy to his mother before again heading south.
They then helped an archaeologist and then Brage thus fulfilling Stavebearer's ambition to become a hero.
The party helped Rufie, Drienne and a dryad before meeting a party consisting of an ogrillon, an ogre mage and two ogre berserkers.
The party killed all but one of the berserkers and thought the battle was won, but Stavebearer must have been hit by a critical and life came to an end. ![]()

Martha, half-elven Totemic Druid, adventuring in Chapter 5 with Imoen, Kagain, Eldoth and Skie
I've fallen behind on the reports, because I've enjoyed playing so much. Even after skipping more than half of the latest screenies, I will still need another (maybe even two!) update to catch up.
I've mixed playing in BG itself with mopping up some of the wilderness areas. Mixed success overall. Haven't lost more than one more NPC permanently (so there are still 22 remaining) but all companions in Martha's main party have died lately. Only Kagain still has a HP bonus from Constitution, but he has lost his regeneration ability again. I've found some nice stuff but I've also used up some things I regret having spent, and missed out on some other stuff.
Starting off with Shilo Chen's ogre mage quest on the Bandit Camp map. One of my nymphs scored an early Confusion on one mage but the other almost killed Imoen:

It got even worse than this. She got hit once more from that bolt passing through her, but lucked out so that instead of suffering something like 26 more damage, it was save vs. the first half of it and then 8 points more, leaving her with a single HP!
We hit Silke four times in the first round, but that didn't cause any spell failure:

No problem, Kagain has excellent saves (more on that in the next update) but it was still annoying. Is the game really fair with this? I mean, at least it feels like all my casters always get spell failure if an enemy so much as farts in their direction...
In Garrick's undead bard quest, we managed to draw out all the zombies from Myr'Cutio, then Kagain took him down - finishing him off with a Firebreath potion as he was chanting a spell with long casting time. Halbazzer asked for the Golden Pantaloons to improve the Bardic Chain, so we took care of that. It was soon time for a reputation drop anyway...
The Bardic Chain is better than the Elven Chain even if you don't count the AC - it does not give penalty to pickpocketing. With Shilo Chen's reward gloves, Eldoth now has 95% pickpocket skill.
The Helm and Cloak battle was crazy and fun. When Skie's traps went off, Gretek clearly felt the iron crisis:
(so in some aspects, Hard Times can actually make some fights easier, as it removes most of the +1 stuff from the lesser foes)

Look what happened the second after Skie got Dominated. Hmm, I wonder if this happening immeditely after she loses control says anything about what she unconsciously feels about him? ![]()

The big damage on Imoen was from a critical hit arrow from Caturak.
I don't think Eldoth got hit by any of Skie's sword slashes, but he was still in trouble:

That spell from the nymph won Skie back to our side. The 'Dominated' icon remained but she had green circle and I could control her. Who damaged her? Farluck, the crossbow dude in Gorpel Hind's gang...
Skie did the Alatos quest without talking to Narlen first. I wanted to try that approach for once. I had forgotten that this results in a full-on guild battle. That was a setback - there was still some nice stuff (thieving potions and such) I wanted to buy later at Lily's Wares.

Kagain and the spirit summons take on Resar and a bunch of rogues while Martha protects the weaker characters by guarding the doorway. Glitterdust was handy here to prevent a possible backstab on Martha. Most of the rogues here are pathetically weak.
Gotta love the cold damage from spirit wolves and -snakes when you fight Stoneskinned spellcasters:

Sorcerous Sundries upper floor fight next. Farsight + Mental Domination from a Nymph won over the big-shot, Niemain, without turning the other three hostile. Niemain supplied our side with plenty of fodder:

Fight is on, save- or else spells are flying:

I knew I wouln't have Niemain on our side for very long, so it felt important to use up the more annoying of his spells.
First time I've seen a Nymph do this on her own (timing was perfect, too!):

First of the four deaths I have foreshadowed happened in the Bassilus fight. Eldoth was Held and victorious at the same time:

Eldoth Held, watched by a large pack of strong archers. I had only one chance to save him - a Necklace of Missiles shot from Skie:

But that wasn't enough. I had lost track of one skeleton that had already advanced to the north. It killed Eldoth right before it collapsed. And now I did something really stupid: used a Raise Dead scroll on him. So wasteful! There's a temple very close to here and Kagain is easily strong enough to carry all his stuff. I even have a Bag of Holding, for crying out loud! Gotta save those scrolls for areas where I can't easily go back, and where I actually need the character to be alive. At this point, after visiting every shop and temple that can possibly have any, Martha has only one Raise Dead scroll left and I don't know if any more can be found (for example, deep down in Durlag's Tower or in the Oghma temple in the next chapter).

Had a very good roll for a cleric/illusionist. Only the charisma is poor.
Only gave him 18 rather than 19 intelligence.
At Candlekeep Mendas did serious damage, but that was sorted upon leaving Candlekeep.
South of Beregost, the ogrillon were defeated using blindness and command.
At the FAI, Tarnesh was killed by the guards. It was fair that the guards got the experience as they had done most of the fighting, but still a slight disappointment.
Pics will be edited in later. Breakfast Time!
