Corethief X the dwarven thief - Update 4
Traveling with: Hanna (halfling bounty hunter), Imoen (thief)
Hanna said she would like an upgrade for her long sword +1 - Hanna has been forced to tank a lot recently with the dire wolves, winter wolves, ambushes and kobold spawns. So we went to the Nashkel Mines (surface). Hanna laid some snares, the party split up and Hanna triggered the fight - she did OK at first, then Greywolf got some big hits - maybe it's not safe! So Hanna started running - Corethief X used poison, which got Greywolf's attention - the rest of party fired missiles while Corethief X pumped his legs - success!
The party then carefully worked their way to the Gnoll fortress, doing the quests that were on the way, such as dealing with Kaldo and Krumm, dead cat, and returning the "dog" to the boy. Traps and ranged fire were sufficient for the Halftooth and pal - Corethief X now has the same dexterity as Imoen - Hanna still has the lead with her 19 DEX.
I decided we would not press on to the cave with the charisma tome - we would have spend resources dealing with the trash mobs, but for once I don't need this tome this run. This is because Hanna already has a natural 18 CHA - Hanna also recently pick-pocketed Algernon for his cloak, putting Hanna's CHA to 20 - the tome wouldn't change anything. We had used potions of mind focusing, thieving and perception to pick-pocket the cloak, since Hanna hasn't put any points into pick-pocket.
We tried to use traps on the Battle Horrors guarding Durlag's Tower - they are completely immune! Yikes! We of course ran for our lives...thieves tanking is out of the question. So we will probably need to sell/buy back our magic missile wand, and hopefully get one more want to speed up the kill. Will do later, we are trying to save up for dagger of venom.
Even though we have already killed Karlat, his clone was found at the Red Sheaf Inn - so we had to run him around again. The spoiler shows him running around chasing one of us, while the other two pumped missiles into Karlat - we would think we were doing a show for the town's citizens! The spoiler also shows a hobgoblin ambush - now that we have a few levels, and Corethief X and Hanna have good AC for thieves (AC 0) we stood our ground and beat these guys - the hobgoblins didn't hit much so looked like a good choice.

Damn, you're persistent.
What's the phrase? Grond0's nothing if not persistent.
I'm glad he relaxed his BG 1 restrictions a bit - this way, they are more likely to get to BG 2, and you know, die there. ![]()

It's not irony - he really doesn't give up!

Aasim, you must not be familiar with the expression "nothing if not persistent" - the expression means (paraphrased) "Grond0, is persistent, more than any other quality he possesses.".
See this link for an explanation.

At least with BG I do know what I'm aiming for, so can see there is some (albeit a small) chance of success. There's another game I've played from time to time over a number of years where I'm currently on my 222nd attempt using the same restrictions - I've never got more than about half-way through the game and think it's highly likely that the restrictions I use will actually make it impossible to complete. However, until I actually know that I continue to allow hope to triumph over experience

Got it, thanks - I'm not a native English speaker.
Corethief X the dwarven thief assassin - update 5
Traveling with: Hanna (halfling bounty hunter), Imoen (thief)
(this guy has been an assassin all along, guess I should have been saying that in the title...)
The party continues to make progress. We decided the sleep wand could be pretty handy for a group of thieves - and it immediately found use when hit by war dogs. We managed to rescue Melicamp successfully. We had to weather yet more hobgoblin ambushes.
I decided to unlock Neried the Shoal area - and then managed to clear the entire map. We had used a clarity potion and a haste potion on Corethief X to make sure success against the sirines - but problem was Corethief X hid, then the sirines went after his group mates! Imoen ran, and Hanna held her ground - and Hanna's halfling saves worked against two dire charms! Was impressed. However, by then, Corehtief X had backstabbed and poisoned his weapon and the siriines fell quickly.
The large group of ogres were defeated by traps and the sleep wand. Party made it level 5 and got another snare! And imoen has 55% chance to lay a snare, which means we have even more snares to go around. Hanna got another thrown snare which is great.
Screenies of the adventure:
Party Stats:
Hanna - level 6 bounty hunter, 34 HP, 104 kills, Winter Wolf
Corethief X - level 6 assassin, 38 HP, 111 kills, Shoal the Neried
Imoen - level 6 thief, 36 HP, 47 kills, Winter Wolf
Just a quick note - during my lunch Corethief X and gang managed to solve the Nashkel Mine problem. The way was cleared with direct attacks, thrown snares (which saved the miner), sleep wand and necklace of missiles. Since Corethief X is the best hider, he did most of the scouting. Time for Mulahey! Snares accounted for the kobold minions. Corethief X did a backstab, Hanna used Greywolf's sword and Imoen some arrows of biting we had lying around. Mulahey couldn't get a spell off - he tried to surrender, but Corethief X said no. Some skeletons had to be killed and Imoen absent-mindedly forgot to take out the arrows of biting, which aren't that great on skeletons (not to mention used up all these valuable arrows). But we did win and the loot is ours.
Corethief X will sell and then deal with Nimbul once Corethief X's controller, er, gets back from work.
Enter Starface a female Dwarven Defender.

Due to the assassins now being true assassins, and the fact that I have given them better equipment, they almost killed her!
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=1
She made her way northwards intending to help some fishermen, but upon being told the truth of the matter, she switched allegience.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She was able to kill the ankheg which attacked her.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
After heading southwards she was able to help Mellicamp.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Her reward was a romantic interlude. ![]()
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She headed south, helped Rufie and then a dryad.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Further west, she got into conflict with yet more assassins.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Who all subsequently died.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She killed a number of gnoll and then to the north, a polar bear.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
And on her way back to recharge her necklace of missiles, a winter wolf.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Further north a vampyrric wolf yeilded yet more experience.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
As did an assassin south of Nashkel.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Tarnesh was the next to fall.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Heading eastwards she met with an aggressive band of adventurers who would have been wiser to have been less aggressive.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
In the same area basilisks were next on the menu.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Followed by some medusae and an insane mage called Mutamin.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She then killed Greywolf.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Before going to the inn in Nashkel for a well deserved rest. She had to kill another assassin before she got it! This one was able to "hold" her but was not able to capitalise on her advantage. ![]()
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Ogre berserkers even were more of a problem.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Best of luck, Wise! Try not to let your mods kill ya! ![]()
She then visited Durlag's Tower.

http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She decided to leave whilst she still could, intending to return later.
She then went down the nashkel mines where her necklace of missiles was a great boon in disposing of assassins.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
When she faced Mulahey, she managed to kill him before he "held" her.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She survived until the spell wore off and then killed the remaining opponents.
Heading back north, she was able to dispose of two powerful assassins, Tristan and Isolde.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She then went to the bandit camp where she met hordes of enemies.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She whittled these down using necklace of missiles, but hurting herself in the process.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She survived and then killed more assassins. Both there:
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
And south of the FAI.

Silke was next:

In Cloakwood she came into conflict with some druids.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
And after killing lots of spiders, an admittedly small dragon.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
(I don't like the way that they have nerfed this dragon as it is optional, it doesn't need to be easy)
A wyvern was next followed by some baby wyverns inside the cave.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Inside another cave, she met some bigger ones.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
On the way to the Cloakwood mines, Lamalha and cronies attacked.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Once again, necklace of missiles saved the day.

One enemy panicked which put them on more even terms.

She was sad to have to kill them. ![]()

http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Upon her return to the FAI to rest, Ender Sai "entertained" her.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
After re-equipping herself, she went to the Cloakwood mines.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She was successful at the entrance, despite chaos. ![]()

In the mines, the mages were equally unsuccessful.

As were all the others:

More assassins at the entrance to Baldur's Gate.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
She got involved in a rather violent pub brawl.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0

Corethief X the dwarven assassin - Update 6
Traveling with: Hanna (halfling bounty hunter), Imoen (thief)
The team has suffered their first deaths of the run - and it's all Corethief X's fault! He's not happy about that...
One of the first encounters done after defeating Mulahey was to battle Nimbul. Hanna was protected by the shield amulet - so her job was to absorb the magic missiles and help wear down Nimbul's mirrors (with the help of a few friendly guards), while Imoen and Corethief X stayed out of trouble, though Coretheif waited in the shadows. Then when mirrors were gone, Corethief X did a big backstab to end Nimbul's threat.
Then we went to Feldeposte's to "battle" Tranzig. Wasn't much of a battle, as Hanna's thrown traps killed Tranzig instantly. But now that we had two magic missile wands (and one was recharged) we went to Durlag's to try to take out those battle horrors. The team did beat those things without deaths but what a pain - we could have used more room, but we made do. We decided this place was more trouble than it's worth, at least for now...
Corethief X thought maybe weaker enemies might improve the party's mood, so then we went to the Xvart village - direct attacks, plus the occasional sleep wand and trap made short work of them. Corethief X used backstabs to take out the cave bear in the cave.
As usual, my parties provoked Borda - he's not too bad if the person provoking him has the shield amulet active. Hanna did run in fear, but the rest of the party kept up their attacks and once again, with no mirrors Borda couldn't survive Corthief X's backstab.
So then Corethief X got the "bright" idea of how about dealing with those Amazon assassins? He got a LOT more than he bargained for...click for full account otherwise read the summary:
Summmary:
I realized after the battle there was a very, very simple way to defeat this group - have Corethief X scout, back off, fire a fireball from Necklace of missiles, hide and repeat until they are dead. It only takes about 3 shots of this normally. Instead, he got Imoen and Hanna killed. Corethief X did win the fight and killed all enemies, but he needs to avoid a repeat performance of this.
Despite dying due to his leadership, Hanna and Imoen are staying with Corethief X - he's thankful for their loyalty.
Exploring the gate, Starface was attacked in one house that she visited and had to kill the inhabitants.

She then investigated a mage's house.
http://s1108.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
Why is it that mages are so aggressive?
She was given the task of retrieving Balduran's Help, but that task had to wait until later.

The Ashirukuru proved to be virtually impossible to hit, so the necklace of missiles had to be used.
Lilian Darkwater, another mage proved to be much easier.

And finally Sarevok fell.
(I had intended to complete the Dark Side of the Sword Coast quest, The Drizzt Saga and the other ToSc quests before killing Sarevok, but some of those need a party from a role playing perspective and I wanted to complete the game solo as well. Can't have everything.

Congrats Wise! I see you took my advice and didn't let the mods kill ya! Since it worked so great for BG 1, perhaps you should try same advice for Amn? ![]()
I'm hoping to do Seige of Dragonspear first.
Since I haven't played it before, there is great potential for dying. ![]()
Though I have paid for it an my transaction is confirmed, it is not yet available 9 hours later. ![]()
I must have patience.
EDIT
Just discovered that it is a patch for the original game. It was there all the time.
I am therefore wondering about installation order.
Can I just install it now, or do I have to install it before my mods?

Gate70 would be the resident expert, but I imagine that installing it will effectively over-ride all existing mods, i.e. you would need to reinstall them afterwards. I also suspect that there's at least a possibility of compatibility differences, so that mods that worked with your previous version won't necessarily work with the updated one. The Beamdog Forums has threads about mod compatibility.
Grond0 - Hope your monks can stay together in Amn - tough with SCS.

This time, I think that I will go straight to Amn, and do a fresh installation for my next run.
I have to do a fresh installation for SoA anyway and I think doing it for both games is stretching me a bit too much.
Gratz Grondo! Keep up the good work in Amn!
Wise, I've also just bought Siege. I installed it first, and after that a number of mods, not too many because several mods don't work with EE version 2.1. For BG1EE my only mods are two components of Rogue Rebalancing (proper dual-wielding for thieves and bards, p&p spell progression for Bards), BG1 NPC Project, some BG2Tweaks, and SCS. As far as I know those mods don't affect Siege, only the main game, but Siege has improved AI more or less similar to SCS, so you shouldn't miss that mod there.
Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 101 - (update 1)
Sean, half-elf stalker (Grond0) & Joak, elf diviner (Gate70)
Our latest pairing got under way yesterday. They made a typical start with Shoal providing a level each before they collected bags from High Hedge, Firebead and Neera. Greywolf didn't object to passing on his sword after he was blinded and passed on and the same was true of Meilum.
There was a glitch early on at the basilisk area though. After killing the first couple Sean showed himself to the greater basilisk in the south before retreating a few steps and going into the shadows. The expected behaviour was for the basilisk to come to where he had hidden and stop - ready for a backstab. However, instead it continued on past and Sean was a bit slow in alerting Joak to the danger. When he finally called out he was only met with a stony silence
.
I've seen comments complaining about the way SoD has implemented stealth - I think creatures now typically have a 'follow-me' script, meaning that if they lose track of someone they are chasing they will home in on other party members whereever they are. I presume that this behaviour has also got into the latest BGEE version to at least some extent ...
Once restored to her normal flexible self Joak watched as Sean finished off the basilisks before readying a blind for Mutamin - but that wasn't needed.
Blind did put Lindin and Baerin out of action though, while a first use of stinking cloud occupied Kirian and Peter for long enough to be shot down.
After collecting the Ring of Wizardry some more walking XP waited at the Lighthouse. Sean used the potion of clarity from Candlekeep to tank those without trouble,
but he was careless in the golem cave - repeatedly failing to target one of the golems with his arrows and getting close enough to be hit in the process despite Joak slowing it down in her role as invisible blocker.
Before leaving the area Gate70 used a bit of inside knowledge to explain it would be a bad idea to rest in this area using the latest BGEE patch. Having tried it at the edge of the map I agree
.
The main encounters in the Cloudpeaks were done before the duo collected Samuel and returned him to the FAI. With reputation at 19 they didn't bother fighting any ankhegs, but just stealthed in to loot their treasure - getting a final reputation boost in the process and setting up a shopping trip to Ulgoth's Beard.
After stealthing through the Nashkel mine Joak opened proceedings with Mulahey with a stinking cloud and skull trap. Although not having seen them, that still prompted Mulahey to call his army into action and Joak quickly ran into a corner and used invisibility. That meant the creatures all left to gather round Mulahey - grouping together nicely for a first use of a wand fireball. That panicked Mulahey effectively ending the contest.
Outside the mine blindness once more set the amazons up for the kill
before a backstab on Nimbul saved any need for spells. There was a mistake against Neira when Joak arriving through the door broke Sean's preparations for a backstab and he ended up trying to talk to Neira. That could potentially have been fatal in single player, but Joak's magic missiles prevented Neira from completing her spell while Sean popped round a corner to hide and set up a proper backstab.
Moving on to the Bandit Camp Sean put on some missile protection items while working through bandits. Taugosz survived a stinking cloud and skull trap, but could do nothing after being blinded. Inside the main tent Hakt was blinded before Joak used a stinking cloud on the others. Sean put a couple of arrows of biting into Venkt and the battle was soon won.
Sean, stalker 6, 81 HPs, 136 kills
Joak, diviner 5, 32 HPs, 44 kills, 0 deaths (1 petrification)
For the second run in a row both characters have very nice HPs. Let's see if we can take better advantage of their good fortune this time ...
