Unfortunately, it looks like this run has come to an end. My install has become very unstable and keeps getting assertion failures all over the place in the Nashkel mines. I've tried deleting temp files and uninstalling/reinstalling mods to see if that would fix it and, if anything, it has made the problem worse. I'm going to reinstall and take another run at this weekend but I'm not going to bother with any videos. Getting quality videos out is way too much effort to put in just to lose to a buggy install. :(

I too had a number of runs end because of bugs. I found that I had to restrict the number of mods. Uninstalling them didn't help. The problems remained. DSoSC was a major culprit, but I like the mod very much. EE has introduced more mod conflicts that had been sorted for Tutu. :( Similarly Dragonspear.

I agree Grim. I tried to limit the number of mods and only use mods that had been previously tested. It's still possible the installation order impacted my game...or it could have just been a bad install. Oh well...I'm reinstalling now and will take another shot at it. :)

I am running a race/class combination that I don't think that I have tried before, mainly because the game didn't allow it. My mod set-up now does allow it. Not a combination that one would expect, a half-orc inquisitor. Str 19, Dex 18, Con 19, Int 13, Wis 15, Cha 18. Yes: a very good roll. I think that I have only ever had one roll of 103 that beats it. Probably the combination makes a high roll more likely.

Diary of Scythia Strongarm

Being a half-orc, as you might expect, I had great difficulty in gaining the training necessary to become an Inquisitor. If it hadn't been for the example of Drizzt, I am certain that, even pulling strings, Gorion would never have succeeded in getting me the rquisite training.

I do have one fault and that is the propensity towards picking up items which do not belong to me. In Candlekeep this meant that I had to pay a fine of all my gold when caught breaking open a chest.

I was able to kill all three assassins sent to kill me. [In the two previous runs Mendas killed me with his poisoned weapon!] This time I ensured that Canderous blessed me and protected me from evil whilst I consumed Deder's oil of speed.

Upon coming across Mendas, I ran and shot him with my bow before he closed in on me. I had to use two healing potions, but I survived.

After being ambushed on the way to the FAI Gorion was killed and, upon his instructions, I fled.

I continued to follow his instructions by making for the Friendly Arms Inn. There I was asked to recover Joia's flamedance ring. This I did, and in the process helped Tania against the fishermen, thankfully without bloodshed.

Heading southwards I found a useful girdle upon the body of the ogre that I had just killed.

Heading southwards, I was able to help Alanna's neighbour, kill Karlat, calm down Marl and get a book for Firebead.

EDIT

I continued southwards, killing ogrillon and hobgoblins gaining a ring of protection and boots of strength in the process.

In Nashkel I found some ankheg armour, chatted to Nuuber and did some babysitting. I turned down some gold that Oublek was offering thinking that I was Greywolf. To the south-east I found a ring of fire protection before agreeing to take Samuel to the Friendly Arms Inn.

After doing that, I saved Melicamp's life and helped him back to his human form.

Back in the south, I helped Rufie, a dryad and a cat before heading west.

There I took on some unpleasant guys who were trying to extort payment for crossing a bridge. Some assassins got in on the act, but necklace of missiles killed all but one. He was a mage and he successfully cast confusion. That didn't stop me killing him with my bow. I then had to wait until the spell wore off until I could proceed. The necklace once more proved invaluable as I killed some more assassins. The necklace is now in need of recharging.

In a cave I found some useful nick-nacks. I killed some poweful gnoll before returning to the carnival to recharge the necklace.

To the south I killed another assassin before deciding that some ankheg hunting was in order. After killing all of them that I could find I reached level 6. My proficiencies are now: ** in two-handed swords; ** in two-handed weapons; and ** in long bows. Reputation is now 20, so I did some shopping in the carnival.

Trio (Attempt 3, session 3): Lots of deaths.

Nimbul is the first victim. A hit for 32 by Coretank.
Neira is next, her first and only spell disrupted by a bullet from Unyo's sling.

On to Beregost, Tranzig's outstretched corpse points the way to Cloakwood. Just time to drop off a spider, some boots and wine to Landrin.
(A slight hiccup here when Unyo speaks to the wrong person and returns the golden pantaloons. After a conflab about reputation versus liklihood of using the pantaloons in the distant future, the noble is left alive. Unyo reserves the right to return if he decides a shapeshifter unit is feasible)

The bandit camp is visited next. It's dangerous outsidem, particularly for anyone wearing full plate armor with a metallic shield and war hammer. Unyo has plenty of time to Call Lightning.
Spoiler

Britik finds it to be charming inside.
Spoiler

Cloakwood beckons. Coretank is held by a web trap and attacked by ettercaps - the words of caution from Pins still ringing in his ears about being careful of the trap. Unyo manages to call lightning on the ettercap and kill it but Coretank is stuck fast and fading from poison. Unyo throws an antidote to him and tries to cast slow poison but he too is webbed and Coretank perishes before the web allows him to consume the antidote.

After a temple visit, Coretank suggests the party backtrack to meet Aldeth Sashenstar and Seniyad. The plan is sound, right up to the point where Coretank sides with the druids when Unyo and Pins expected to be fighting them. Once Aldeth is dead, Unyo reluctantly shows leniency to his fellow druids while wanting to tear them apart.

On to Cloakwood Mine. The party make a good opening against mouthy Drasus, by sending a charmed guard in to soak up spells. Unyo gets two lightning strikes, Pins gets a disabling spell into play and goes on the offensive while Coretank slings bullets.
Spoiler

Horror is cast at Coretank and Unyo makes him run the other way. With Coretank in a panic Unyo and Pins retreat.
Spoiler

Coretank starts to take damage and Unyo moves in to intercept attackers and becomes the focus of various spells.
Spoiler

Pins is showing her heels to Drasus, struggling to keep ahead of him. Unyo has bitten off more than he can chew, with Genthore attacking and the two mages unloading spells in his direction. He's gulping potions of healing but has to make a break for it - Coretank will have to take his chances.
Spoiler

Unyo is being chased by Genthore, while Pins is being chased by Drasus. Both are badly wounded and at risk of death.

Pins has run round the mine entrance and is returning as she bumps into Unyo running in the opposite direction. Unyo gulps a potion of invisibility and heals up as Pins does the old trick of dodging inside the guardhouse and back out but Drasus is too quick for her. Coretank comes to his senses at about this time. He tanks Genthore and the mages as Unyo off-tanks, and the same tactics are too much for Drasus who falls within sight of Pins' corpse.
Spoiler

After a second temple visit of the session the party return to the mine.

Unyo is happily summoning a nymph to deal with Hareishan when Pins lets loose with Horror. With Hareishan already down, her companions don't last long.
Spoiler

The final guard before Davaeorn puts up a good fight, and Pins decides to use a Wand of Frost.

Unyo is EXTREMELY lucky to survive. Note the save and consider what would have happened if he'd failed.
Spoiler

After a second temple visit of the session the party return to the mine and quickly descend to where Davaeorn has secreted himself. Coretank uses up a scroll and potions to tank the Battle Horrors before moving in towards Davaeorn.

While the party want to say Davaeorn soils himself, the truth of the matter is that he instead casts a lightning bolt that bounces off Coretank and hits the distant Pins before bouncing back onto the luckless Blade. First blood to Davaeorn, but not for long.
Spoiler

Unyo and Coretank scrape Pins off the ground, and store what gear they cannot carry into a nearby container. They return for a third temple visit and end the session (with a suitably named save to remind us to loot the area before flooding it).

Gate70: Unyo, Shapeshifter 7. 96 kills (+28).
Grond0: Pins, Blade 7. 68 kills (+25).
Corey Russell: Coretank, Undead Hunter 6. 145 kills (+69).

Blaggerd works out how to proceed further in Siege of Dragonspear. He succeeds in getting a bit further before wishing he hadn't bothered trying.

Spoiler

At this point Blaggerd is stunned, holding the Spiders Bane sword and in the midst of battle with friends and foes moving around him. 50 or so hp is unlikely to be enough for him to make it through the battle, and so it proves. The battle continues, his corpse taking further damage from spells and footfall until he is barely recognisable and then starts to sink into the churned mud. It looks like a hero's burial is out of the question once more.

His patron sighs in frustration, and briefly wonders about finding another minion to command before deciding Blaggerd should be pressed into action again.

Diary of Scythia Strongarm

I decided to visit Durlag's Tower and had quite a profitble time there gaining wisdom, excellent armour many scrolls and potions, but most useful of all, experience.

I then went to the lighthouse area, killed some sirene, but when the oportunity afforded itself, I peacefully went past Sil to get the treasure in the cave. The tome that I found in there means that I now rarely need healing potions.

I then killed Bassilus, Zargal et al before going to deal with Mutamin, the basilisks and medusae. This took me past the level cap, but from now on I won't level up.

EDIT

I then worked my way through the Nashkel mines, killing both assassins and Mulahey with no problems. Once outside I killed the undead in the caves and a stupid mage.

Having thought about it, this combination doesn't increase the chances of a high roll. It is just the same as any paladin. However, what it does do is enable you to put those points where they are most useful.

After using the constitution increasing tome, Strongarm heals going between areas, just like Kagain. Quite a boon.

Diary of Scythia Strongarm

I fought Tazok, but like the bullying coward that he is, he stopped the fight. I got the letters from the chest by stealth and proceeded to Cloakwood. There I helped some hunters and had various contretemps with druids. They always came out the worse for wear.

The Cloakwood mines did not appear when I expected, so I had to return to the bandit camp. This time my sword was exceedingly bloody when I left.

I fought Drasus and prevailed. However, I had to return to recharge my necklace of missiles.

In the mines Hareishan was totally outsmarted despite using sneaky tactics. I Used the necklace of muissiles centred on myself. This virtually wiped them out. :) However, I was scarcely hurt due to my protections. :)

I then fought my way through to Davaeorn and he finally fell.

There were some chests that even I was not able to force open even with 22 strength.

Onwards to Baldur's Gate. :)

Ah, yes, the old fireballs on one-self trick - not for the faint of heart. But sometimes necessary for the soloer. I still remember Imoen wiping my high level thief out with her fireball, in her zealousness to wipe out some mean Black Talon Elites. My characters since always use the ring of fire resistance found in Samuel's area, unless tripping a trap with a different character - to prevent dying to party fireballs. But Imoen outsmarted me - in a different run she used a stinking cloud on Sendai, but was a bit careless in her targeting and managed to make me sleep and die to the enemy archers. And then there's the run when clearing the mines, used a necklace of missiles on a hapless kobold only to die to my own fireball to not having a clear line of sight I thought I had.

In my set-up it is possible to upgrade that ring. However modded items are unrecognised in SoD.

I see. If you potions and scrolls from Thalantyr you can make your fire resistance greater than 100% - in which cases your own fireballs heal you a bit. I've needed this strategy as a soloer in ToB.

I haven't upgraded the ring as I might want it in SoD. I haven't felt the need of it being upgraded particularly with constitution of 20. Strongarm therefore did get injured by the necklace of missiles blast, but not seriously.

Diary of Scythia Strongarm

I have entered Baldur's Gate, killing more assassins on the way in. I have used the dexterity, wisdom and intelligence increasing scrolls.

I have acquired considerable experience fetching and carrying. After getting into a brawl, sadly Gorpal Hind was killed. I was sad and felt a bit guilty about that.

I sold a lot of +1 armour and weapons and now have well over 50,000 gold pieces.

Experience now over 350,000 but have not levelled up since reaching 150,000.

EDIT

Candlekeep was without serious incident Experience just over 500.000.

Have rescued Duke Eltan.

Killened Cythandria, Kristen and Slythe.

Now wanting to get some ale after going to the Ducal Palace and defeating the assassins.

I am now in chapter 7 having rescued the dukes. Is it too late to do the Neera quest? She is not yet in the party.

It is too late for this game as Sarevok has fallen, but I would still like to know for subsequent games.

He was killed with  acid arrows after an arrow of dispelling. True sight was a real boon against his cohorts.

Final experience 687,963, though I did not level up after reaching 161000.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 107 - (1st and final update)

Clone, half-elf blade (Grond0) & Suerj, elf wild mage (Gate70)

Our latest attempt may have failed to finish the first session, but we had a blast looking at some wild mage antics.  We did have a run a long time ago where we both chose wild mages and made decent progress, but that was at the cost of being careful about the use of spells.  This time Gate70 determined to just trust to luck ...

It took a while to get a first surge and Shoal had been killed to get a level each before Suerj found herself the owner of some ants in her pants.

Spoiler

After going up to the FAI to pick up the Ring of Wizardry Clone tried using an offensive spin to shoot down Tarnesh while he tried (and failed) to horrify Suerj - but had a horrible series of attack rolls and failed to hit him at all.  After being hit by one lot of magic missiles Clone would have been killed by another lot, while Suerj would also almost certainly have died if exposed.  In that dangerous situation Suerj tried a second blinding attack - and got a cracking result with the resulting surge.

S2_zpswfsq1vss.jpg

After passing through Nashkel the duo went to High Hedge to try and learn protection from petrification before seeking out some basilisks - but Suerj failed both attempts at that.  With no more mage scrolls available (and disdaining the use of a green scroll) the basilisks were abandoned for now.  The first alternate target was Karlat, who Suerj put out of action with a blind (sort of):

S3_zpsoilxvuxa.jpg

Going down to have a word with Prism both our heroes narrowly survived a hobgoblin ambush.

Spoiler

Still shaken by the experience Clone blurted out the wrong response to Prism and the chance to attack Greywolf was lost.

There was a bit of work in the Cloud Peaks before the next surge against Caldo & Krumm - fortunately Clone being targeted with a blind spell wasn't a great problem.

S4_zpsiatd2hqh.jpg

Clone couldn't see far, but did hear a scream of anguish from Suerj as she encountered a wolf in its den - and responded with a first use of a wand.

Spoiler

Arriving at the Gnoll Stronghold Suerj once more demonstrated her versatility as a couple of ogrillons were summarily put to sleep.

S5_zpsd03ik4me.jpg

The next surge against a bear proved rather more non-descript though.

Spoiler

Moving up the coast a bit the pair took on the Doomsayer.  Suerj successfully unloaded 6 lots of magic missiles on it, but that still left it dead and kicking - so Clone resorted to her wand again.

Spoiler

By this time Clone was up to level 5, but had failed all her attempts to learn any offensive spell.  She did finally get a LMD into her head though prior to an encounter with Meilum.  Suerj tried to charm him without success and we resorted to run and shoot tactics to get his bracers.

Spoiler

Back in civilisation Suerj noted that the spiders in Beregost were still around.  Without invisibility they weren't straight-forward, but Clone agreed to try and distract them while Suerj put them to sleep.  The first attempt at that was pretty successful - with 3 of them falling down.  Clone was still untouched, so the final spider didn't seem much of a threat, but Suerj tried to sleep it as well.  Unfortunately her run of good surges came to an end as she produced a burst (sunfire).  At that stage Clone was L5 with 29 HPs (fractionally below average, which is pretty unlucky for an EE character).  My screen only showed the death scene, but Suerj had the opportunity to admire the fatal damage of 30 she'd inflicted on Gate70's screen .

Clone%20death_zpsxe7zqotn.jpg

We just had time to generate a new random pairing.  The Excel spreadsheet used to do that came perilously close to producing another wild mage for Gate70, but he ended up with a transmuter.  Trying again, I looked down the list - and found myself also in possession of a transmuter!  Lets see whether our magic can be controlled a bit better in the next run B).

A very entertaining write-up, Thank you Grond0. I think you may have found a new way to end your reload - an ally surge killing ya. Guess keeping your distance from Gate70 the entire time would be the only way to avoid that, until your HP were high enough anyways...Sorry you guys didn't make it though.
