Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 111 - (1st and not final update)
Eve, halfling thief (Grond0) & Carthus, human monk (Gate70)
Our latest pairing hit the road yesterday to see whether they could survive longer than the single session managed by our previous 2 attempts ...
After dealing with Shoal and making their way down to Nashkel, Carthus made good use of his stunning blow against Greywolf. The bounty hunter was actually stunned 3 times during the use of that ability, but still just survived and had to have his last few HPs surgically removed with arrows.
Picking up Samuel the duo made their way to the FAI, where Tarnesh did not have the HPs needed to survive being stunned!
Meilum made his save, so we had to spend a while using run & shoot tactics on him.
At the basilisk area Carthus had no trouble dealing with the monsters from within his green scroll protection. Mutamin managed a shout of protest before further actions were stunned.
An assault on Kirian's party began well when Korax paralysed Kirian, while Eve backstabbed Baerin. Peter held Carthus, but the monk had already got out of sight range. Eve dodged another intended hold by hiding in shadows and Peter made his final discovery - a pre-laid trap - when chasing after him. On his own Lindin was helpless against repeated backstabs.
A few more tasks saw reputation up to 20 and a journey up to Ulgoth's Beard was only interrupted by using stealth to rob the ankhegs.
After a quick tour of the highlights in the Cloud Peaks it was time to explore the Nashkel Mine. The EE has given Mulahey some cheesy abilities to make sure he gets his dialogue out and he ignored being stunned here.
However, the kobolds all died in pre-laid traps and the skeletons alone couldn't save the cleric after Eve had saved against rigid thinking.
Outside the mine the amazons put up a decent fight. Lamalha managed to hold Carthus and refused to stop attacking him to deal with Eve's assault - resulting in a first need for a temple trip.
After sorting out Nimbul and Tranzig the duo moved on to the Bandit Camp. Carthus dealt with the bandits pretty well - being hard to hit with arrows when protected by boots and cloak. We hadn't rested, so had no traps or stunning blows for Taugosz and he took a while to wear down using run & shoot. After resting outside the main tent things proceeded much more quickly inside with Venkt being stunned and Hakt backstabbed. Britik did make Carthus run following a critical hit, but it was still a comfortable victory.
Thinking ahead to the palace fight Eve wanted to get Bhaal horror - the requirement for a drop in reputation was bad news for Bentan and Poe. Before going on to the Cloakwood the duo paid a visit to the Lighthouse area. One of the sirines there managed to wander out of melee range of Carthus (protected by potion of clarity), but a nice backstab ensured that wasn't a problem and Sil and the golems caused no difficulty either.
After running through the Cloakwood an initial assault on the mine guards was very successful - one mage falling to a backstab and the other being stunned and beaten into the ground.
Carthus though had difficulty with Drasus and managed to collect an impressive array of guard followers while trying to keep ahead of him (using a couple of healing potions for the first time in the process).
After Eve finally managed to dispose of Genthore she came to help after consuming a particularly hot portion of chilli.
In the mine most conflict was avoided on the way down to Davaeorn. The mage was in trouble against a scroll protected Eve, but Carthus went for the quick kill and got held for his pains. Davaeorn then did well to manage to choke out a monster summoning spell before he died, which ensured Carthus would join him - if only briefly.
After a temple trip and returning to the mine to pick up loot, the duo have made their way to the City Gates, ready to venture in next time.
Eve, thief 7, 46 HPs, 130 kills
Cathus, monk 7, 58 HPs, 87 kills, 2 deaths
