@ Anonymous Hero. In my install it does behave as a limited charge item. Yours does sound weird but I agree- it's a better deal.

Meet Odrelomp Gogglebur, Halfling cleric extraordinarie. Only allowed myself a single roll for stats, stats cannot be altered but can be moved.. and I got reasonably lucky to boot:

Running a rather clean installation, weidu log:

I justify the unlimited stacking by the fact it drives me clinically insane if I don't have it.
It's a bit late to get started, but I'll get some playing in during the weekend. Currently Odrelomp is twiddling his thumbs outside the Candlekeep Inn (meaning I haven't done anything yet).
As an aside, I've been trying for the better part of two hours to get custom portraits to work, but despite two reinstalls in a newly created directory it's just not happening.. pity as I found a very nice variation on the standard portrait I'm now stuck with.

Have you saved the portrait files in bitmap (.bmp) format in the portraits folder? Maybe the files are the wrong format.

As touch_of_the_void said the portrait needs to be a .bmp, most things on the internet are .jpg.
Large = 110 X 173 & Small = 38 X 60
Can you give us a link... Now I'm curious about what a halfling cleric should look like?
Edit;
Main character portraits go in your "portraits" folder not the "override" folder.

Alesia has assasinated the Iron Throne Leadership and returned to Baldur's Gate- along with Imoen and Yarame. I'd like to see Yarame get another level before initiating the end game sequence so the trio may do some out of story line adventuring.
I'll post again when Alesia is ready to complete the Slythe and Duchal Palace fights.
Best,
A.
Btw. Now seems like a pretty good time to refresh the Challenge Update list. I'll attend to that relatively soon.

Yeah I think that when I tried to go invisible and the icon wasn't there I was very surprised. I had been resting everytime I used it, but now that I know it is charged I will definitely use it differently then before. Seven charges is also useful information, and I think that this item with the greenstone amulet are the two items that need to be recharged which is what I was trying to do but got greedy after I had already gotten the gold to recharge my greenstone amulet. Oh well....Alesia_BH wrote...
In my install(s) it's 1/Day in BG2. In BG1, it's a limited charge item with 7 initial charges. At 21K that's 3000 per charge- not exactly a bargin...
it can be a life saver though. That can justify the cost.
Best,
A.
It's interesting that I've actually been writing down everytime I've used an item that way I don't overuse it, and calculating how much gold one charge is that way I can find out how many charges there are and so forth...it has a different feel then with BG2 that's why I like it(playing this engine).

I've noticed that the game does not detect properly pictures that are added into the directory while the game itself is still running - you then see the questionmarks. Have you tried reopening the game and changing the portrait from the customize screen within the character record?Aldain wrote...
Yea, they're in a folder called Portraits in the bg install directory, the pictures are in bitmap format, and size (pixelwise) is 110x170 for the large, 38x60 for the small, and they have names of no more than 8 characters. Just doesn't work, neither in bg1 or bg2, both portraits show up as questionmarks.
I'll fiddle with it some more when I have time, but there just isn't a lot of room for configuring this.. it works or it doesn't. Anyway, it's all a bit offtopic.

Pretty sure I tried it, but I might have missed it. Will just remove and re-add them, then give it another shot as you describe. If it doesn't work, no big deal.

About 20 pages back I was playing Pallyn, a Neutral Good Human Male Cleric/Conjurer - in fact, this was my first successful game (my first two chars bit the dust before Ch3). I got somewhat bored with this because all the Dark Horizons gear and XP I'd been picking up made my characters feel really overpowered - Yeslick has a -13 AC, for example. However, I'm in Ch5 so I'm thinking of taking this through to its conclusion and seeing if they can indeed take on the final battle (they could probably do it now, to be honest).
A quick recap: Pallyn had just arrived in the big city, but not done much. I've just cleared the Seven Suns and the Ogre Mage for Scar, helped Brielbara by getting her Yago's spellbook, and initiated the Grey Clan quest (this is tough but I want to do it in Ch5, and my overpowered gear should help quite a bit).
The party:
Pallyn Cleric 5 -> Conjurer 7
Imoen Thief 4 -> Illusionist 7
Khalid Fighter 7
Jaheira Fighter 6 / Druid 7
Yeslick Fighter 5 / Cleric 6

After couple of sidetracks in realms of Drakensang, Dragon Age and some others BlackStrider is back again in his new incarnation:

His two previous incarnations (Illusionist/Thief and Conjurer) were successfull in BG1-ToSC no-reload runs so I hope that now he will succeed as well cos he is my most favorite char and I'm planning complete Trilogy no-reload with him.
My installation is simple (EasyTuTu with some *cosmetic* mods):

Alesia had a foolproof plan for taking down Slythe and Kristin so I let her go ahead with it (I prefer to minimize out of storyline questing on role-playing grounds- I find it hard to justify sight-seeing and minor questing when ones life and the fate of the region are on the line.). She is now resting at the Blushing Mermaid with Imoen, Viconia, and Yarame.
Unfortunately, Alesia has hit a snag heading into the Duchal Palace Battle. Despite drinking a Potion of Genius, Imoen failed to memorize Remove Magic (Next time she'll get a Potion of Mind Focusing too...). That's a shame. I was counting on that spell for the Duchal Palace fight.
Alesia will have to proceed with an alternate plan it seems. I'll let you know how it goes.
Best,
A.
Btw. Good Luck Blackstrider!

No: they're not.
Dispelling Arrows work though. And Dispel Magic is available of course. But Remove Magic is the best tool for the job. It's a bummer that Alesia won't have it.

The basic principles of assassination are straightforward: plan thoroughly, move unseen, strike quick, use lethal force, get out. Simple.
Fortunately, Alesia has done her homework better than Slythe. The assassin was assasinated.
The Plan: Buff. Approach invisible, and scout Slythe's position. Toss two Special Snares at him and leave 2 regular snares just out of sight range. Position Imoen and Alesia behind Slythe, unleash simultaneous backstabs. Once he becomes hostile, the Special Snares will trip. Barring Critical Misses, he will not survive. If he does, retreat to the second set of Snares. Once Slythe is dead, move Alesia out of the action and shift Imoen to Mustad Jelly form- flanked by a Sanctuaried Potion of Magic Protected Viconia. With both 100% magic resistant, Imoen immune to piercing, and Viconia Santuaried (ready to Turn Undead), Kristin will no offensive options. Kill her.
Keep Yarame out of the fight- she isn't needed and there is no reason to risk getting her chunked.
Execution: Everything went according to plan.
First, the assassination of Slythe.

And like the good little assasin that she is, Alesia made her exit: briskly, but not hurriedly; confidently, but without eye contact.

Time for the cleanup crew.

Final Comments
That was a well executed execution- marred only by the shattering of Longtooth. Sarevok's turn will come.
Btw. Alesia has completed the Duchal Palace fight. Belt and Lility both survived. The party took minimal injuries. I'll post on that fight relatively soon.

Thanks!
As to my intention to explore everything - from one side it's simply my usual approach in games (how could I brush aside all that precious stuff laying here and there?). And from another - it's out of roleplay as well. BlackStrider definitely need to put his huge gnomish nose in every nook...
So, it will be long run (I hope). I'll post his update soon. At the moment - best of luck to all current no-reloaders!

Not surprisingly, Candlekeep went off without a hitch. Once outside, I teamed up with Imoen, along with Montaron and Xzar. Of course the latter two are irredeemably evil, but I sensed they want to make up for their misdeeds by acting as meatshields until I get my desired party together. I graciously allow this.
Little of note passes as we make our way to the Friendly Arm Inn. The belt-toting Ogre gives up his treasures after some arrow-diplomacy. Tarnesh is potentially deadly, but thanks to the two meatbags.. erm.. honoured allies, he doesn't prove so tough.

I've decided to go with the canon party (Jaheira, Khalid, Imoen, Dynaheir, Minsc). We pick up Jaheira and Khalid, grab some gear using cash from the diamond sale (yes I am using easter eggs.. this is noreload after all!), and start making our way south towards Nashkel. Unfortunately, Montaron proves he's not really the badass he pretends to be, and is bested by a gibberling...

He is of course buried with full honors by the wayside. By that I mean I ditch his corpse and don't look back.
We reach Beregost without further incident, rest up just to be on the safe side, and keep moving towards Nashkel. Sadly, Xzar gets a little too close to a decidedly uncouth Ogrillon and suffers for it.

He is afforded an even more glorious burial than Monty, as I drop him in the middle of the road.
I take the sad metagaming road and relieve the Flaming Fist south of Beregost of his plate. A Command by Odrelomp followed by Entangle from Jaheira renders him helpless.
At long last we arrive in Nashkel. I immediately swipe the pearl and Ankheg armor, which goes to Jaheira (as she leveled from the Ogrillons and now has 18 hp, she's the only one in the party who can conceivably take a single critical without dying, and therefore ends up in the front line). We grab Minsc, and make for the Gnoll Fortress to pick up Dynaheir.
I take great care to avoid fights along the way, as with a party of level 1's, even Gibberlings (as Montaron demonstrated) can be deadly.
I do kill off the mountain bear for the boot reward, using tried and true kite tactics.
We arrive at the Fortress unscathed, and now face Gnarl and Hairtooth.
Again, at this level two Ogrillons are a genuine threat, so Odrelomp and Jaheira toss an Entangle each at them, then Jaheira goes up, talks to Gnarl and immediately moves out of range. Huzzah! They fall to a hail of missiles.

We make our way, very slowly, towards Dynaheir, literally killing one gnoll at a time. Eventually we reach her, and the party is now gathered! All that remains is making it back to civilization in one piece...

On our way back to Nashkel, we're ambushed! Rather amusingly, it's a bear.. got to wonder how something that slow managed to corner us. Anyway, it's no laughing matter if we get within range of those claws. Once again, Entangle comes to the rescue, and the poor bear never knows what hit him.

We reach civilization, at last! I decide it's worth the risk to clear out the spiders in Beregost, as I saved the antidote (and the identify scroll for that matter) from Candlekeep. Keep in mind I have no 18 charisma character, so no free 6 antidotes for me when I took the quest...
A very swift buffing up phase consisting of my one and only bless is followed by my by now customary tactic of dual Entangles, which works rather well. Except one of the spiders hits Dynaheir for three damage, and she fails her poison saving throw. She only has 6 hitpoints to begin with!
Fortunately all the spiders are now entangled, so we beat a tactical retreat outside, where I use my bhaal CLW to keep Dynaheir from dying, then hand her the antidote from Jaheira which she chugs. Jaheira and Khalid then return inside to finish the now helpless spiders.

That nasty bit of business over with, I attend to the easy subquests in Beregost, as well as turn in the spider quest in FAI. Calming Marl down nets Odrelomp his first levelup.

I'm a bit apprehensive about taking Silke on (she's fried more than one character for me in the past when I get bad attack rolls trying to interrupt her Improved Invisibility), but we roll the dice and take our chances.. and succeed!

A quick rest after, I decide it's worth the risk of taking on Karlat as well, especially since with him out of the picture, we have another easy subquest available worth 500 xp. That he's worth 270 himself isn't bad either.
Entangle, by now the lifeforce of my little adventuring band, proves it's worth once again.

With Imoen at level 2 and 45 Open locks, I have her break into the local mansion under cover of night, and she gets away with it easily.

All in all, a fine night of adventure! The party is now taking a most deserved rest at the Red Sheaf (you can see Odrelomp and Minsc having a drinking contest by the bar).

That turned into quite a long post considering how little was really accomplished.. oh well. Odrelomp is now a mighty L2 cleric

TL;DR -> Gathered party of Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, Dynaheir. Did subquests in FAI and most in Beregost.
