I did have a very close call though, in the Xvart cave at the southwest corner - Edwin fired a color spray to defend himself, and guess he aimed it wrong and put Kagain to sleep!

Which is why I hate that spell except in a soloPosted Image.

Encountered one bug, but didn't reload, was that I didn't get any Bhaal power when I entered Nashkel, nor after repeated rests. Not sure what that means. But other than heals, I don't use the Bhaal powers much anyways. Not going reload for that.

You could always add it in using Shadowkeeper.

Well I usually don't use color spray either, but I don't memorize magic missile until my mages at at least level 3. Also thought it might be handy in case we got ambushed and Edwin under attack. I find it funny that one of the xvarts made his save against the color spray, but Kagain, both a fighter and a dwarf, didn't make his.

I don't remember what my reputation was when I entered Nashkel and not sure which power I would be supposed to be getting anyways.

Continuing adventures of Ester - still mainly travelling with a view to boosting reputation, although doing most encounters along the way.
- helped out in an excavation (8 magic missiles memorised at 5th level was just enough for the doomsayer)
- saw Brage safely home, though stupidly forgot to check whether my inventory was full before talking to him.  Fortunately my gem bag and his sword were still there when I got back to the area 36 hours later.
- protected Prism (7 magic missiles not quite enough for Greywolf so topped up with a few darts)

The early morning sun reflecting off the screen is making play difficult at the moment, so probably time for a little break.

@ShadowLeech, a question of curiosity as I follow you: Are those mages with 10 Intelligence following vanilla rules about Write Magic (i.e. scroll copying)?

Does 10 Wisdom give a chance of spell failure to your cleric?

Yes they are. I don't have the latest patch though but I'm sure it should be the same. I do not think clerics get spell failure they just don't get additional spell.

P.S I'll be using the purple potions of intelligence to scribe scrolls. As for casting spells from scrolls, that might be a challenge for my "average" intelligent mages.

They are random> set to play time... you will get it eventually… for the first two powers, good characters typically get ‘cure light wounds’ and neutral-evil (about 10 or less) gets ‘larloch’s minor drain’. The third power should be ‘Horror’ or ‘Slow poison’.

The story of the Band of Tens

They never sought much fame or fortune. Never truly aspiring and there was nothing which appeared special about this regular band of comrades. And yet they came together in Candlekeep raised by the mage Gorion. In a world where the talented are highly regarded and the strong rise to high positions, this group was largely common if not regular. Not too downtrodden yet not much to fuss about either. Named the Band of Tens, or Gang of Joe and Jane they were lead by the ever regular Rachel.

She had no distinguishing feature herself, being just a fighter in a world ruled by sorcerers and dragons. Her comrades came from numerous backgrounds, went through the various wizardry, thievery, and clerical academies in Candlekeep, well they would like to think of what they went through as an academy but it was really just a small classroom where Gorion would toss them endless amounts of books and scrolls to read. There are slight differences in this group however, due to class and race. For example the elf fighter/mage Aloren is slightly better at handling a bow and long sword then his counterpart Stella, also a fighter/mage who is a half-elf.

Staggered Shot Formation

To preserve ammunition(not that they needed to at this point) the Band of Tens would have two fighters shoot at a single target and then a round later, have another two shoot. This allowed for the Band to discover the results of their attacks and see if they needed to use any more ammunition instead of an all shooting expedition. They all traveled south to Beregost where they fought off a rude gang of hobgoblins and encountered ogrillions and wolves. Capturing two rings of protection they ventured furthur south. Progress is slow if not deafening. Every battle can be a harsh lesson in reality for the Band of Tens.

The hobgoblin with the boots of stealth is slain and the party happily grab his boots where they are immediately put to use by Sara the fighter/thief specializing in stealth. The Band arrive at Nashkel and meet the ever entertaining Noober, and are told of troubles down in the local mine. The party fight off a man named Greywulf with relative ease and allow Prism to recreate his portrait.

Two plate mails are bought at Nashkel and a ankheg armor is found. The party head out in seek of a Gnoll Stronghold.

Ester is now ready to go down the pit having:
- finished her adventures south of Nashkel.  The ferret had fun with a new toy at the carnival (Vitiare is scripted not to turn hostile and only react to party members and just stood to take his punishment).
- also done the northern quests on the way to Ulgoth's Beard.  She opted to read a protection from acid scroll to help in clearing out the ankheg nest.  This was successful, though she got scorched a bit trying to charm ankhegs (not easy as they have to come up above ground).
- the intention was to get Dushai to use his own spells against himself, but for some reason he only had web spells in memory.  Therefore recruited the other gnome mage to do the job.  With reputation 20 and charisma also up to 20 with a friends spell Ester had just enough money to buy all the useful equipment at Ulgoth's Beard store.
- up to now it had been a pretty trouble-free run, but she almost crashed and burned in getting the wand of monster summoning out from under some ghasts' noses.  The intention was to just cruise in and out under invisibility.  The first part worked, but the ghasts moved in order to block the exit route before she got her invisibility back up, which left something of an impasse.  I thought releasing the ferret briefly might open a space, but as soon as he came out of the backpack he was criticalled and held.  With only moments to go before a familiar death Ester chose to show herself to provide a better target for the ghasts.
Posted Image
This caused a possible escape route to open up through the bat just in front of her.
Posted Image
And she was through.  Swiftly leaving the tomb also teleported out the held familiar.  I was concerned that the ghasts might come out as well as it wouldn't be possible to put the familiar back in the backpack until she could talk to him.  However, they decided to lurk in the tomb, allowing her to make good her escape.

Finished the mines. Used quite a lot of charms, which expose the character rather more than other spell use (such as sleep), so had to go back to Nashkel for more potions of healing at one point. Sleep was used to take the kobold archers out of the equation, while Mulahey was magic missiled while using 2 charges of green amulet (which naturally wasn't required this time).

Nimbul was surprisingly successful at putting soldiers to sleep and Ester summoned some ogres to keep him occupied while she sent magic missiles through his stoneskin.

Zallon the Fighter update 3: Lake Area and Nashkel Mine (surface)

Well, it had to happen eventually. A party member died. A dire wolf locked onto Edwin and one-shotted him. My mages tend to die a lot (which may explain why when I am a mage, the no-reload is very short...).
Posted Image

Edwin did not die in vain, however, as Viconia hit level 4 after that kill:
Posted Image

Rest of the area we cleared without incident, after resurrecting Edwin. My general policy is once the whole party is level 3 (unless I have multi-classes) I then hit Nashkel Mine.

Next, we cleared the surface of Nashkel mines area. Pretty clean work by the party. The key battle of course was against Greywolf. Viconia shows yet again why she is such a vaiuable member of the party, she successfully got a hold on Greywolf:
Posted Image

Naturall, Greywolf had no chance after that. Got a pleasant surprise after the kill Edwin and Imoen leveled. Now I feel pretty confident for Nashkel Mine (though wouldn't be surprised if Edwin fell with his 13 HP).
Posted Image

Zallon will get the +2 longsword for now, though looking ahead will give him the spider's bane and give his longsword to Imoen.

And the adventure continues...

Party Status:
Kagain: Level 4 fighter, 41 HP
Zallon: Level 4 fighter, 39 HP
Viconia: Level 4 cleric, 18 HP
Imoen: Level 4 thief, 25 HP
Edwin: Level 3 conjurer, 13 HP

Zallon the fighter update 4: Nashkel Mine, Sendai map - disaster strikes

Since the kobolds are only worth 7 exp, I don't consider clearing the entire mine worth it. Could set off traps and have to use expensive heal potions, just not worth it to kill kobolds. So we make a bee-line for Mulahey's hideout. I try to purchase necklace of missiles before coming here, because you can then do this to the kobold commandos guarding Mulahey's hide-out:
Posted Image

We free the enchanter that is imprisoned down here. Never know if we might lose Edwin permanently and need to replace him. The looting help was also welcome. For Mulahey, we moved the party by his chest then fire a shot from necklace of missiles to whittle down Mulahey's help - only a kobold survives with morale failure:
Posted Image

Next, we engage Mulahey - he doesn't even get a spell off, as Viconia gets another command off (never in all my runs has this spell been so wildly successful). Mulahey of course falls after that.
 Posted Image

We then head out the secret exit of the mine and head northwest. An ankheg appeared and slammed Viconia down to ONE HP in ONE hit:
Posted Image

The party concentrates on the Ankheg, Edwin out of useful spells. Viconia uses a heal potion, runs and saves against one Ankheg attack. After that she was out of range and thankfully the Ankheg dies. This was good news in a way, as the party will head to Thunderhammer Smithy and have him make some ankheg armor for Kagain. But first we had to sell/identify our junk and drop off the sullen enchanter at the carnival.

We encountered an assasin named Nimbul in Naskel. Viconia yet again manages to command him. Not even sure if Nimbul even managed to damage any of us:
Posted Image
The mayor of Nashkel was of course happy to hear our success.

We follow up with a letter we found in Mulahey's chest and confront Tranzig the mage in Beregost. Below was our deployement:
Posted Image
He didn't stand a chance.

While we were in Beregost, we put in our order for Ankheg armor. We came back to Nashkel and got a +1 large shield for Kagain. At this point I thought, hey Kagain has the new shield, at -4 AC, decent HP. Viconia has commands and holds, and Edwin sleep and 2 horror spells, should be able to beat Sendai and get that nice leather armor for Imoen right?

Well, after I tried it I found out that answer was yes and no. Yes, we could win, but was VERY costly. First, Viconia, managed to command Sendai, so that was good news. HOWEVER, Kagain was getting hammered by the archers. I threw everything I had at the archers, but not before Kagain was killed:
Posted Image

At this point I had Edwin fire off both horrors. This helped but the archers were break the fear part of the time, Zallon had no choice but to charge an archer to get him to melee. We managed to take down the archers, but it cost Edwin's life:
Posted Image

This was bad news in several ways. For one, we had very little looting space after getting Kagain's and Edwin's equipment and the valuable items from Sendai's gang. Second I had less than 400 gold at this point after the Ankheg order and the large shield +1 (3000 gold for that). We get to the temple and find out will cost 400 gold to raise either Kagain or Edwin - we don't have the money!

I remembered that sapphire in the rock wall on the map with Samuel and his girl. So with Kagain and Edwin still dead, and very little looting space since we are carrying their stuff, this happens:
Posted Image

Edwin's sleep and horror spells were not available since he was pushing up daisies at the moment - fortunately Viconia had one spell which could assist - etangle. She fired it off then Vallon backed off so he could fight the non-entangled enemies first, then use ranged power on the entangled ones:
Posted Image

Thanks to the entangle, Zallon and party could finish off without taking any casualties - whew! Howevever when we moved up the battle was NOT over! An ogrillion appeared. Zallon had to tank, Imoen or Viconia could easy be toast with a critical hit. Yet again, Viconia commands (puts to sleep) the ogrillion, giving the party victory:
Posted Image

We get to the Samuel map, get that saphhire, return back to Nashkel and resurrect our fallen and also identify Sendai's equipment now that we had the money (Edwin can't use divination spells, so can't identify it for me). Strangely, even though Vallon is a fighter he has the best lore!

We head back to the Sendai's area. But not after changing something - since Kagain is the one who has to charge archers, he's the one that nees the boots of avoidance. I gave those to him. This worked out MUCH better when we encountered Vax and Zal. First we managed to provoke Vax with Zal out of range! This made Vax easy pickings. Then Kagain charged Zal first before the party assists. Viconia managed to hold Zal, and that was that:
Posted Image

After all these travails, we got some good news, Zallon made it to level 4 and even got a good HP roll! Zal's bracPosted Imageers went to Imoen.

We cleared the rest of the map without incident. Party Status:
Kagain: Level 3 fighter, 41 HP
Vallon: Level 4 fighter, 48 HP
Viconia: Level 4 cleric, 18 HP
Iomen: level 4 thief, 25 HP
Edwin: level 3 conjurer, 13 HP

Sorsha day 110
We spent the next 3 days or so running around Baldur collecting select loot before working for Scar.

Posted Image Posted Image

Imoen nearly soiled her robes when she discovered what was hidden inside the merchant headquarters but recovered quickly and gave it a good workout against Aasim and her cronies at the Iron Throne.

Posted Image Posted Image

The Duke sent us back to Candlekeep next but we decided to raid Durlag's Tower looking for a tome… no Book of Wisdom unfortunately however we aren’t that upset about getting an extra wand & a new Baul power but the ghost did manage to kill Jaheira with a ‘Cloudkill’ so we had to retreat back to Nashkel.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Opps! Someone forgot that killing Marek to soon buggers her game up… stay tuned.

@corey_russell, Cool M8 & cheers Imoen on her new bracers!
Just a quick update before I retire.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

I had to Shadowkeeper Marek back into my game so I could kill him the correct way to finish the quest (a known bug) however I already looted his gear the first time around so I walked away this time and left it alone… our protagonist decided that Durlag's Tower held little interest for her without the tome so we went to Mutamin's Garden. Shar-Teel challenged Ajantis to trial by combat… after 2 minutes of watching miss, miss, miss scroll by she got in a lucky hit and declared herself the winner, huh, I was so jaded with it that I let her keep the gold besides its time we got back to the Dukes’ little task any way.

Hello everyone.
My new character is elven thief Toruvilan:

Posted Image

He was caught few times stealing by Watchers and beaten in the head badly, which caused his intelligence and wisdom to decrease considerably.

Posted Image

On the other hand, his high strength and dexterity more than make up for it.As usually, I play BG+TotSC with the latest patch, maximum difficulty. Toruvilan completed all starting quests available in Candlekeep and he is currently ready to leave with Gorion. Let’s see how far I can get with solo thief.

Was there a reason you didn't consider Ajantis gulping a STR potion to stack the deck more in his favor?

Hello everyone.
My new character is elven thief Toruvilan:

Nice picture for an elven thief - best of luckPosted Image.

Ester had one more side quest to do before following the main track - to loot the pirate cave.  Going in invisible, she stumbled over a nasty fire trap - though this did have the side benefit of killing one of the flesh golems.  She also noticed that Molkar, who she had spotted outside the cave had followed her inside.  To distract him while she got the treasure she summoned some gnolls and then disappeared again before Molkar's newly-teleported in comrades could react.  The crew did chase her out of the cave and across the map, but she chose discretion over valour and didn't confront them.

Back in Beregost Tranzig stood no chance against a character with improved invisibility, but gave away the location of the bandit camp before he died.  At the camp Ester used a web to slow down the chasers and skull traps / wand of fireballs to permanently discourage them.  Once Venkt was dead, it should have been just a case of mopping up the stragglers, but the amazons chose to show up then to complicate things.  Keeping constantly on the move Ester managed to kill 3 of them with fireballs & magic missiles, but wasn't sure where the last assassin was and didn't want to waste any more of the wand's charges.  So she stood still and soaked up the back(front)-stab from Maneira before quickly polishing her off with a magic missile; that also got her to level 8.

After looting as much of the camp as possible without a knock spell she spent all the funds raised - largely on buying a spiffy new robe from High Hedge.  In a bid to get some funds back she decided to take on the druids in the cloakwood to see if they had any items for sale.  However, it wasn't worth it.  Seniyad nearly killed her with call lightning (for some reason I thought improved invisibility would protect against this) and only had a crappy ring.  The groups of druids fell quite easily to wand scorchers, but only had 1 healing potion between them and the archdruid, who required a couple of skull traps and a number of magic missiles had nothing at all.

The party outside the mines was a bit more lucrative.  A couple of webs slowed them up enough that the 2 mages didn't cause any trouble, but Drasus took a potion of magic shielding and there were a worrying few minutes running round trying to keep enough ahead of him to get a magic missile off, before finishing him off.  Ester is currently at the entrance to the mines.

Edit: Ester got charmed by Hareishan in the mines.  I didn't notice that the charge from the green amulet had run out until too late - this is the first installation I've had for a while where the effect is not given by being equipped and I've still got a tendency to just check its being worn rather than active.

The Continuing Adventures of the Gang of Joe and Jane

So far the Band of Tens has suffered no deaths, however there have been near death experiences where party members were brought down to a sliver of health. But it is to be expected from a bunch of beginners. The guantlets of dexterity are acquired after killing two ogrillions at the Gnoll Stronghold. This allows the party to have a single member with the ability to act as a kind of evasive jester to mock the enemies while the rest of the party rain down arrows and bullets.
The fighter Rachel, leader of the Band of Tens is the first to reach level two, however she only gains a paltry amount of health. She reads a self-improvement tome and learns how to be more forthcoming to others. This does not really make much difference. After the completion of the Gnoll Stronghold, the party attempts to rest in the half-ogre area only to be assailed by an ogre and skeletons who throw darts. Sara, whose AC is the highest of all is first to fall. The party recoups and is able to defeat their enemies soundly.

Melicamp is Saved!
The group of the ordinary meet the extraordinary, as a talking chicken named Melicamp is transformed back to his former self. Sara is raised.

Tyrian the Great Evader
Even the average Joe can whip up a storm of evasion. Tyrian the fighter/thief gets a very low armor class(-5AC) and is able to dodge every attack made by huge spiders in a house and reach the coveted corner where the spiders cannot enter and which he can shoot at them with ease. The party can hopefully make it back to the Friendly Arm Inn.

Down in the Nashkel Mines
Tyrian is slain by a kobold in the Mines, however the party quickly retreat back to Nashkel to raise him back. Tyrian is very important as he specializing in finding traps. Rachel deems that Sara and Tyrian switch their purpose in the party and Sara becomes the evasion.

Trapping Essentials
The third level of Nashkel Mines is detrapped by Tyrian the evermore resourceful fighter/thief.

The Kobold Commando and Mulahey
Usually an unnamed enemy isn't much of a threat to anyone at least in the realm of talented heroes. But in the gritty down to earth reality that is our Band of Tens, a single kobold commando can wreck havoc and go on a killing spree. Sara and Kanan, the F/T evader and the F/C healer are downed by a single kobold commando shooting arrows of flame at them. A single hit is all it took to take each of them down. This commando was indeed a commando and Aloren, the F/M elf needed to take the time to unequip his plate mail and hope the stars that he would be able to get blindness on this commando. With the most insane luck, Aloren manages to not get hit without his plate armor and gets off blindness on the commando, rendering him harmless as a rabbit. The party is able to take this commando out and then Mulahey with the second blindness from Stella.

The Irony of Nimbul
A very arrogant assassin by the name of Nimbul doesn't think much of our Band of Tens. He is confident with his boots of avoidance that he will be able to defeat the arrows and bullets of the Band. He is a very lucky man indeed, he saved against three castings of blindness, but luck can only get him so far. The last blindness which Stella cast on him hits, and he is in deep trouble afterwards. The entire battalion of Amnish mercenaries joins our courageous party of normal heroes in shooting this guy down. What peotic justice it is, that despite wearing the boots of avoidance, Nimbul falls to a barrage of arrows and bullets.

George fails to hit Taugosz with a kai strike. He heals once, then has to run. Khalid has badly wounded Taugosz with his longbow but starts to switch to his sword. Jaheira tells him to keep shooting and takes a wild swing with her club.

I close in from behind, Khalid takes aim.

No need, Jaheira has hit with her first strike and Taugosz is dead.

The Boots of Avoidance
Down in Firewine Bridge, the Band of Tens faces down not one but three of the pesky Kobold Commandoes. This time, Sara has the Boots of Avoidance, which is a gamechanger in the battle of arrows. She comes out shooting first, and three of her comrades trail her while Rachel and Tyrian stay back on the Bridge. It is a shooting contest as one shot made will mean certain death for Sara, so she knows the stakes are high. She is able to evade every shot the Commandoes make and with her distracting the commandoes from her companions, they are able to mount an advantage over their kobold enemies.
There is a second bunch of kobolds in the waiting, and one actually hits Sara with a critical. Only half her health is wiped this time as Sara and her cleric backup Kanan mop up this group. Meilum is taken out by terrain block.

The End of the Road
It seems that despite all the luck the Band of Tens has had, there is still the equation of patience. Rachel and her Band launched a fruitless assault on three thugs lead by Ioin. Now, Ioin himself is slain and one of his comrades Billy is blinded. However, Drebbin makes two saves against blindness and consequently is able to kill both fighter/mages of the party. The cleric Kanan falls shortly after, it only takes but one or two hits. Finally, Rachel and Tyrian make a suicidal charge at Drebin. Tyrian is slain in a single shot, Rachel tries a last minute escape but a ogre shows up surprisingly. Confronted by both an ogre and Drebbin, she is shot down(despite having grabbed the boots of avoidance). Thus the end for our Band of Tens.

Zallon the human fighter - Update 5 - lots of stuff up thru Cloakwood
Big Update!

Zallon decided it was time to clear the 3- tomb area. The battles were really smooth. We ran into some Amazon assassins. However, I did NOT have summons with me this time. Even so, i was certain I could crush them. Kagain fired two shots from his Necklace of missiles, Edwin fired off two webs, Viconia fired off a silence and a fear. Zallon and Iomen fired their bows. The amazons were crushed badly.
Posted Image

We battled the Revenant, even though we only had 3 people who could even damage the thing. This turned out to be enough, and Imoen leveled to level 6 here.
Posted Image

We need 10k to get full plate for Zallon and also to have buffer in case to resurrect someone (have learned my lesson). So we head off to capture Brage, but first battle bears and Xvart Village. Pretty easy -- we also battled Borda - this guy has ended my runs before so I did not take him granted, as you can see by my wall of summons around him:
Posted Image
Victory was achieved easily because apparently we interrupted him when he was trying to get his mirror image up.

My repuation was getting dangerously high (15) so needed to lower it. I thought I remember getting a low rep by fighting the doomsayer - so I went into the tomb with the miners, but that raised my rep! (oops) Well I left the tunnel and engaged the doomsayer. Edwin fired off 5 level 5 magic missiles and a flame arrow, while everyone else put the beat down on him. Kagain was using a lot of heal potions and then I noticed something - the doomsayer's health WASN'T going down! I need a +2 weapon to kill him. Yikes! Only had Greywolf's sword, which Zallon had equipped. Zallon gulped a STR potion (to hopefully speed up the kill since low heal potions), and charged. Fortunately that was enough to kill the Doomsayer without any casualties.
Posted Image
My rep did NOT go down! So I ended up killing the guy with the Nymph's cloak which lowerd it 7.

We needed some more cash after getting the full plate for Zallon, so we hunted Bassilus. We answered the right questions with a person with 17 CHA, but the skeletons did NOT disappear (and nor did they aggro, at first). So it was the party vs. Bassilus. With the ranged power his chances wasn't looking good, then Viconia got a hold on him and spelled his doom:

We then had to hack all the skeletons with heavy crossbows, but th party did that without much incident. The +2 hammer went to Kagain.

Everyone in the party was now level 5 (except Imoen who was 6). This is when I go after the bandit camp. I went to FAI, got to edge of the map on the east side, then paused for a moment - I realized that several party members didn't have antidotes - should I backtrack to the FAI temple and get them? I didn't want to bother with the pathing, but that was a foolish choice. Got bit unlucky and got a 2 wyvern ambush.  Luckily was just a party death and not an end run. Viconia dies, and the party retreats to FAI to resurrect and get the antidots equipped on my party members like I should have before.

Going to have to finish my post in a bit - internet acting up.

UPDATED:
Bandit camp went pretty smooth. We encountered Khosann and laid into him, flame arrow sleep (which failed) but hold person stuck and it was over for him. We gave his full plate to Kagain.

Tazok Tent Battle - Kagain and Zallon both meleed the two guys closet to the party, Imoen used her bow against the mage, and Edwin fired magic missiles until the mage died and Viconia uses the fear wand. Incredibly, 3/4 the enemies failed their save against the fear (including the mage). Needless to say the enemies didn't have a chance after that:

At this point decided that we would fill the last spot with Coran. I may or may not pick up Tiax in chapter 5 (Coran and Imoen are working so well for my party, I doubt I will pick up Tiax). After getting Coran, we had to work on getting his Wyverns. On the way we encountered a nest of spiders/ettercaps. This is dangerous, we laid everything we had into them. It worked out great however, 2 party members leveled.

My normal strategy in the Cloakwood ambushes is to use a fully charged monster summoning wand as a "shield". Well, thanks to the low rep with an evil party, the buy back cost is 41k! Didn't have that kind of money, so the battles were a lot more touch and go, as you can see here the party pretty beat up after an ambush:

Against the Hamadryad, I gave that assignment to Coran to solo - he did a nice backstab, a one shot even (much better than Imoen ever seems to do for me):

Here's yet another screenshot of my party being hammered by an ambush, including Edwin dead.

Usually I use summons against Drassus. I'm feeling pretty confident about my party, so we just walk right up and start attacking. We did things like a necklace of missiles (using it up), web, fear wand and horror. Combined with our bow power, the enemies went down without any signficant resistance. Oh can't forget Viconia - she also silenced a mage, which we know because the mage attacked us with his melee! Haste boots went to Kagain.

Again, feeling confident about my party (and not having necklace of missiles), our party showed ourselves to Hareishan and her gang. We fired off horrors and fear wand, whittled down the melees and then charged Hareishan. At the right moment put up potion of magic shielding on Kagain. Hareishan wasted some spells on him while he was protected and fell. Rest were easy pickings after that as you might imagine:

Against Natasha, Kagain again charged with potion of magic shielding protecting him, with Viconia assisting with her sling once he had Natasha's attention. This was successful.

For the Daveorn battle I had two thieves and thought - why not use them against Daveorn? I can't protect my tank with protection from lightning (Viconia isn't level 4 yet), so can't use my normal strategy. So Imoen gulps an invisibility potion (her stealth stinks), Coran stealths and they approach Daveorn. Daveorn had mirror image up, so this wasn't going to work the greatest. Anyways, Coran backstabbed first, ran and hid and Imoen did her thing and ran away. Since Davoern couldn't see Coran he of course went after Imoen. I then had the party charge Daveorn (everyone using range except Kagain). Coran tried another backstab, which still wasn't effective yet thanks to the mirror image. Then Kagain got charmed! Coran ran and hid with Kagain nearby. Rest of the continued the beat down on Daveorn, including the very useful magic missiles from Edwin. We must have been interupting Daveorn (or was silenced?) because then he charged with his staff! Needless to say, she fell shortly after that:

We flooded the mines and now we are done with Cloakwood. Really pleased with Coran's performance so far.

We actually have a lot of areas still to explore/battle in, probably the underground school with the wolves, jellies and spiders will be next.

I really hate charms - they are deadly in solo games.

I agree, though most save or else spells will spell doom for a solo player - even chromatic orb spell at higher level I tend to find one of the hardest things to defend against, as there are no specific immunities available against it.

I did also have the horn of Kazgoroth available to block 1st and 2nd level spells, but that only lasts 3 rounds so is not really a practical option when fighting large groups (like the 20 or so guards that accompany Hareishan).

Soloing a fighter/thief at the moment. Will post more details later if it lasts as long as my attention span allows.
