I've been playing this series since BG2 came out, but I've never really tried a no-reload challenge. I thought it was time to rectify that.
Ilkimys Tuhmuri is a
swashbuckler of questionable character, with rather amazing stats. He starts his adventure in TuTu, the relevant mods being Tweaks, BG1NPC, UB, SCS, aTweaks, Tutufix for BG2 summonging spells and ammo stacks, and Level 1 NPC. For the first few levels, at least, I'll be switching the difficulty down for maximum HP on level up,
After a rather uneventful run through the early Candlekeep quests, Ilkimys and Imoen find themselves on their own outside Candlekeep, and are immediately set upon by two dire wolves. Fortunately, we had the foresight to stack up on arrows, and combined with Immy's Oil of Speed, we manage to kite and snipe the wolves to death. Having already used to potion, we decide to capitalize on it by using a few bears as archery targets, using the same principle. After six bears and a few gibberlings, Ilkimys reaches level two. 16 hit points sure feels like a lot at this easrly stage of the game.
Instead of talking to the two weird strangers, we decide to make a small trip south
for no discrenable in-character reason because Imoen was sure she spotted a shortcut. After hours of aimless wandering, we at least luck out by bumping into an Archer called Kivan, who offers to join up with our crew. To test his mettle, we callously butcher a few more bears going about their bear business in the woods. I'm not sure how Kivan felt about orphaning innocent bearcubs, but his skill with the longbow was certainly impressive enough.
Having done that, we traced our steps back to where we started from, and decide to scour the area for any gibberling stragglers and such. Unexpectedly, we find two dread wolves instead! A single, perfect sweatdrop ran down my forehead, but as it turns out, taking Kivan on was an
excellent move. Instead of ending up as wolf-chow, we end up with two dread corpses and 1300 points of experience. Kivan goes up to level 2.
Now it's time to bolster our ranks with the creepy halfling and the insane mage. If nothing else, they'll be more bodies to throw at the enemy, right? Sure enough, Montaron ends up dying on the way to the Friendly Arm Inn, but Xzar makes himself useful distracting Tarnesh while the rest of the party peppers him with arrows. The assassin manages to get off a Horror spell that panics Ilkimys and Imoen, but once again, Kivan saves the day. An arrow right between the eyes.
Having been thoroughly unimpressed with the Zhents, we decide to kick them out and take Khalid and Jaheira in their place. Hopefully, Khalid will turn out to be a better distraction for our enemies to wail on than poor Montaron; to this end, we buy him some plate mail armor with a diamond that Ilkimys Tuhmuri
stole from a locked chest in Winthorp's inn had held on to as a dear reminder of his childhood home.
On the way to Beregost, we pick up a hidden Ring of Wizardry and kill a rogue Ogre, but that's about as exciting as it gets.
