Since I couldn’t decide which class to play next, I will play all of them :D
My next character is Syroluin, chaotic neutral male elven Fighter / Mage / Thief:

I hope in better luck this time.

Sorsha day 119

I contracted myself out to the Halflings in order to kill an ogre mage (I was in the area) then opened the Iron Throne up to new leadership.

Posted Image Posted Image

The catacombs netted me a ring of wizardry (no tomes) then Prat and CO put up spirited resistance… taking both my arcane out early and forcing me into a battle of attrition. We carried our dead back to FAI & ordered stiff drinks all round whilst we wait for these new shakes to dissipate.

Looks like a tough battle - well done for surviving.  I've played this one a number of times now with SCS and still tend to underestimate the mage types.  They've only killed me once, but seem to regularly make a nuisance of themselves.

Sorsha day 122

@Grond0 Thanks, my last run ended here when the drop spiders ambushed me in the middle of this battle... this time I sent Ajantis solo to play with them, hence his death (for a good cause).

Group invisible allowed us entrance into the jail to collect the patient (Duke Eltan) but the guards followed us out and trapped Branwen against the wall (SCS bug). With no way to WIN the fight I dismissed her and left the building… returned later and allowed her to regroup with us then we escaped to the sewers and killed Jenkal with fireballs… yes it’s a cheesy solution but if it wasn’t for the buggy guards I wouldn’t have needed it.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

After going well out of our way to avoid killing the guards, Quayle accidentally lobbed a fireball at Krystin instead of his frost wand… my reputation crashed to 6… opps, sorry! Imoen cast detect illusion to scare Krystin into marking himself (using a potion)… yes the area is clear now so fire away.

Decided to have one more go at a random solo, rather than go for a full party.  This time I rolled a gnome bounty hunter - quite a good selection as I was tempted to have a go at one of those anyway after seeing Alesia's progress.
Posted Image

There's a definite shortage of gnome portraits on the normal BG sites, so I ended up having to crop this one from a bigger picture.  Even then I would have preferred something that hints at Shael's chaotic evil nature, but I guess she's just good at hiding that!

I think that portrait you used is fine. Very good selection of Gnome portraits is in Death Rabbit portrait pack (though they are mostly from NWN).

Update on soloing elven Fighter / Mage / Thief Syroluin:
After death of Gorion, Syroluin left Imoen at Candlekeep gate and continued on his own. He traveled through High Hedge to Beregost, defending himself against various monsters and animals, such as gibberlings, hobgoblins, gnolls, spiders, and bears. In Beregost, Syroluin was forced to kill aggressive Marl. South of the town, Syroluin was attacked by Flaming Fist mercenary and took his plate mail armor. He completed various simple quests available around the town, which yielded him enough experience for advancing to level 2/2/3 with 19HP.
So far so good, thanks to the ability to wear helmet, the survivability of F/M/T while playing on max difficulty is greatly enhanced when compared to vanilla thief.

Here is my F/T that I have been playing. She has made extensive progress. I did not write much about the quests in the beginning, here is everything afterwards.

Jennifer Shadow Female Half-elf chaotic neutral
Str 18/98 Dex 18 Con 18 Int 10 Wis 8 Char 9
Level 5 Fighter/ Level 6 Thief

Melicamp is Saved!
The talking chicken named Melicamp is saved by Jennifer Shadow.

Basilisk is a Bandit?
The most crazy thing occurred, Jennifer Shadow had been waylaid by a lesser bassilisk! Luckily she survived the first gaze attack by saving.

Jennifer takes out Tarnesh
Tarnesh is able to get off horror and a few magic missiles on Jennifer. But at this level she is able to bear the brunt of the attack very well and stealth and backstab Tarnesh.

Jennifer and Bassilus
Drinking a single potion of magic shielding or blocking, Jennifer is able to withstand all of Bassilus spells and draw him away from his friendly skeletons. Next she simply swings her sword down several times and he falls.

Jennifer takes out Mulahey
Jennifer buffs a potion of freedom and gets to work on Mulahey. While Mulahey is running away she gets a free hit. Mulahey's first spell is out of range, one has to wonder why he even bothers casting it if it's not even going to hit. At this precise moment Jennifer drinks her potion of freedom. The following spells are hold spells and are easily deflected. Once Mulahey gets hit by a few arrows he starts to panic and run. His minions are there to back him up however Jennifer walks toward Mulahey stealthed and backstabs him to death and then Jennifer shoots off a charge of the necklace missiles, decimating their numbers.

The Fight with Nimbul
Jennifer had some sense that more assassins would be after her so she carried around her trusty potion of magic blocking. And indeed a wizard assassin named Nimbul came to kill her. Nimbul himself was not so lucky when Jennifer struck before he could cast his first spell(mirror image). As for his second spell, Jennifer drank the potion of magic blocking and then started swinging at him once more. Nimbul was killed before he could even finish casting the spell. Better safe then sorry.

Jennifer gets "her" own armor
Having acquired more then enough to get Shadow Armor in the Beregost armory, Jennifer goes ahead and gets Shadow Armor. This will prove useful when she is busily stealthing in the future. She sells off the boots of stealth as a trade in.

Jennifer goes down the Ankheg Hole
With the boots of avoidance, girdle of piercing, and ankheg armor, Jennifer is wearing the appropriate attire for Ankheg Hunting. She does go down the literal hole of the Ankheg nest and retreives a corpse for a mourning farmer. She doesn't do extensive hunting just yet, her goal was to gather enough gold to buy the greenstone amulet as the Shadow Armor put a huge dent in her funding.

Now Jennifer is planning her attack on the Bandit Camp after killing Tranzig.

Sorsha day 129

I was worried about my rep so we delivered “Sam…” to the FAI & retrieved a book of curses to save a little girl whose mums a hole then treated Cythandria to a gang bang!

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

The good news is we saved to Duke (dialled monsters R us) but unfortunately there was this large chest in the corner & well long story short, someone spotted us. Sorsha cloaked and conversed with the Duke… yes we got away with it… Bugger! Our reputation is currently at 3 lol I’m hoping Ajantis will stay long enough to kill my bro for the greater good of course.

Zallon the Human Fighter - Update 6 - lots of happenings

When we last heard of our heroes, they had defeated Daveorn and were exploring areas of the Sword Coast that they hadn't yet visited.

We battled the might Kahrk. We had lots of summons and Viconia fired off a dispel magic. This removed most of his defenses so that our weapons could whittle him down - he did not survive.
Posted Image

Another major battle was at Ulcaster School. That old skeletal warrior tried to hurt us, but he fell almost instantly:
Posted Image

Inside Ulcaster School itself, we fought the mustard jelly and Edwin almost bit it, but we killed it just in time:
Posted Image

Next major battle was the interior of Firewine Bridge Ruins. The whole party just concentrated firepower against the Ogre Mage. Then Viconia cast protection from lighting on Kagain and Kagain kill all the ogrillions and Landarn and kobolds all by himself:
Posted Image

Edwin gained level 7 fighting the sirines:
Posted Image

Somewhat amusingly, Zallon gained level 7 off a hobgoblin:
Posted Image

Kagain gets level 7 fighting in the Sirine area as well:
Posted Image

Viconia has that charm animal ring from Senaiyd, she actually saved Edwin by using it here:
Posted Image

Imoen makes to level 8 out in the far east:
Posted Image

While adventuring on the east side of the Sword Coast, ran into a pretty dangerous ambush: 2 ghouls, 2 ghasts and a vampiric wolf - we prevailed however:
Posted Image

We battled a thieve's guild in Baldur's Gate. With a summon from the monster summoning wand, and skeletons from Viconia, the enemy was destroyed easily:
Posted Image

Edwin got to level 8 after we gave him a amulet from his mom:
Posted Image

Feel pretty good about this run so far.

Thanks for the thought, though there was only 1 female gnome in that pack (and that one was clearly a magic type rather than thief).

Shael has made some decent progress:
- got up to level 3 almost immediately courtesy of Firebead, who didn't appreciate having his pocket picked and didn't survive the traps underfoot - she's evil OK!
- the mercenary attacking Viconia survived his traps and quickly killed her, forcing Shael to retreat and return to finish him.
- Neira fought inside the inn for some time, but eventually made the mistake of following Shael outside.
- Zordral survived an initial trap laid down by a stealthed Shael, but got finished off by the follow-up LMD (already in Belgarath's list).
- Vitiare is scripted not to go hostile and might survive a backstab, so got shot up by stealth from a distance.
- The vampiric wolves in the temple area were softened up with traps, but Shael used the old reliable backstabs (with Greywolf's sword) to finish them.
- Backstabs were also used on the flesh golems guarding High Hedge - the first fell to a critical and kindly donated a potion of magic shielding as a result.
Shael is now at level 6 and trying to think of a way to finish off Bassilus safely.  He's already survived being attacked by 4 traps at once twice and I don't want to expose Shael to his spells if possible (would need to use potions of clarity and freedom and they're in short supply and his spells and HPs come back if Shael goes out of visual range).

Edit: Bassilus eventually fell.  Started off with a backstab, but had to gulp potions of clarity and freedom to protect against a  number of spells before he would follow me into a trap zone.

Down into the southern mountains and a pet dog had an unfortunate accident (told you she was evil).  Along with Sendai's crew and Zal and Vax that was enough for level 7.

Zallon the Human Fighter Update 7 - More City of Baldur's Gate battles, Chapter 6 Snafus

Zallon engaged the Degrodel minions. Was a bit chaotic, Coran's morale broke, and he started running but that was OK, as this allowed us to concentrate fire on his pursuer. Rest of the battle was pretty clean. We got the Degrodel quest THEN killed him (I' m a NE). This also allowed us the correct dialog to get the Cloak of Balduran from Vail.
Posted Image

The Larze battle often gives me trouble, even with lots of preparation. But thanks to a critcal hit of Zallon's Spider Bane, Larze couldn't even make it more than 1 round.
Posted Image

I needed to get a bit more experience before dealing with the Iron Throne 5th floor, partly because I couldn't afford the detonation arrows like I normally use. So we went to the flesh golem cave. This got Imoen level 9 and Viconia level 8. Most likely these will be the ladies' levels for the rest of the game.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Hmm. internet acting up, rebooting...
EDIT:

Next up was Iron Throne 5th Floor. As stated earlier, due to severe gold problems, I could not purchase any arrows of detonation. So was going to have to do have the entire party duke it out - not too worried about the fighters, but the back row people could get taken out. As it turned out, that's exactly what happened - Imoen and Viconia dead. Haaman I think was using wand on heavens on Viconia, and Iomen got taken down by Coran (he was confused).

Hmm, having a heck of a time with photobucket thumbnails lately, so here's a direct link instead: Results of 5th floor Iron Throne Battle

I of course couldn't loot everthing, so had to get everything in trips. However, when I first went to the temple to resurrect Imoen I had only 6000 gold and then I got a sticker shock.
Fortunately was able to sell enough junk to resurrect Imoen (she has 100% in both traps and locks, don't want to lose that).

Anyhow I reported to Duke Eltan and was sent to Candlekeep. I did end up fighting the Iron Throne leaders. The fight was pretty smooth, EXCEPT a priest of Oghma became hostile. Didn't want to lose rep so I had Viconia charm him and move him out of the way and turned off the AI.

The crypts is usually pretty straightforward, except I got my pausing mixed up when went to de-trap and instead set off a nasty fireball trap, killing Viconia.

This was a near disaster. After doing enough inventory juggling was able to get some room for stuff of Prat's (looking ahead). Had to pass on a lot of gems/rings/necklaces, etc. just wasn't room now.

Anyhow I was taking ZERO chances with the Elminster doppleganger battle as you can see here.

PRAT Battle:
I didn't have arrows of detonation (due to lack of gold) so had to do something different. I buffed Kagain best I could including a protection from lightning scroll (I NEVER use this scroll usually use a cleric, but decided to bring it with me this time, good thing I did because Prat likes to fire off lightning bolts). I had Kagain charge Prat's party by himself and then Edwin assisted by using Monster Summoning II scroll and via spell. Once the enemies were suitably distracted then the party assisted. No one died, so consider it a success See Results of battle

Next up, get our junk we have been storing in Beregost for the final run - hope I don't have happen to me as it did to you USSNOrway (losing Sarevok battle), though I know misery loves company.

Sorsha day 131

We buffed up, summoned a small army of peons and set about pealing this onion. Tazok disappears under a tide of clubs and we move the arcane in to neutralise Semaj. “What’s that?” something red and fiery flies at Sorsha from the shadows… “o terrific”. Mmm I don’t remember Angelo being allowed to fire from stealth… GAME OVER!

BG is starting to feel a bit rock, paper, scissors lately so I think I need a break for a week or two so gonna fire up the old wizardry set…

Sorry about your loss USSNorway! Tough to lose it at the end. I always give my PC 100% fire resistance OR use a protection from magic scroll, to make sure Angelo isn't the one that takes me down.

@Grond0 - Pretty sure it was her level (she was level 9) - you have to play 2000 if the character is level 8. I have no mods just vanilla game.

I lost a lot of gold because we had to pay 100 per shot since Edwin can't memorize identify.

Things were a lot more expensive as my rep was mid-range most of the time so the evil guys weren't complaining.

Last but not least, I pay 41k to recharge a monster summoning wand - this let me use it freely throughout the game, and is vital if Angelo gets involved in the final fight (at least it is for my strategy).

Zallon the Human Fighter - Final Update

Zallon was now wanted by the fist. However, Zallon memorized the sewers - the fist never even SAW him. While in the sewers Kagain gained level 8.

Cynthia was very easy for Zallon - we had a mass of HASTED skeletons in her position before she saw us. What's funny is one of the Ogre Berserkers she summoned got put in a side room! He couldn't even get thru the door.

Slythe and Kristin fell easily too. Slythe can't do much once his buffs are dispelled and Kristin can't survive our ranged power.

So was time for the showdown at the palace. I always send my party members to the right side, ONE AT TIME to prevent premature start of the battle. Then I had Viconia summond 3 squads of skellies right in the duke's position. I then hasted the party and triggered the dialog. Zallon fired off sleep (via wand), Edwin horror and Viconia fear via wand. This disabled most of the Greater Dopplegangers. It affected flaming fist too, but since it did not damage them they did NOT go hostile (yay). Success!

We got thru the thieve's mage perfectly. NEW TACTIC: As I said before, usually the skeletal warriors give me the hardest time. But this run I realized something - the skeletal warriors use ICE arrows. So if Kagain has good arrow defense (which he does), and if I give him a haste potion, strength and (this is the change) Protection from cold! (via scroll). He defeated both skeletal warriors only taking 8(!) damage. Note that he used Prat's throwing axe against them.

Undercity Iron Throne Party Batte:
As I said in previous posts, gold was very bad, so could not use arrows of detonation so had to do different strategy. Summons aren't very effective (at first) because one of the archers has several arrows of detonation. But this run again got a new insight - what if I gave both fire resistance rings and helm of defense to Zallon and the haste boots. Then he could creep up by himself and intentionally draw out the arrows of detonation from the archer. The archer only has a few. Then Zallon can retreat to the party at the edge of the city and kill the melees that follow. Once melees are dead, just walk down the lane and finish off the survivors. This plan worked perfectly.

Did not battle Tamako - if you say you going to meet her, but don't actually meet her at the flaming fist, she doesn't show up here. We killed some of the undead in the area and Edwin got to level 9! My mages have NEVER got level 9 in a full party. Edwin can cast 3 cloudkills. Decided would use his cloudkill to pull (after giving him haste of course! He needs to run away).

Sarevok Battle:
Rather than trying to describe the massive # of buffs I put on and summon placement see preparation. Note that Zallon still has 120% fire resistance due to equipment and buffs (No Angelo you won't be killing me today!) Edwin creeps up while invisible to the left and fires off a cloudkill out of sight, or that's what he tried but Sarevok saw him. I forgot to put on his haste potion. Yikes! He gulped that next round and ran back to the party. ONLY Sarevok and Semaj came, Tazok and Angelo apparently were just sitting there letting the cloudkill hurt them (how nice!). Semaj of course ported right in front of the party and Sarevok started whittling down the skeletons. Viconia fired a perfectly aimed dispel magic, getting rid of both Sarevok's haste and Semaj's protections. Semaj fell shortly thereafter.

Was the only big guy left. He was no where near anyone, and the party just filled him with ranged weapons. Sarevok fell! And we didn't even get damaged.

Zallons Final Stats

Thoughts About this run:
While I did have number of party deaths this run, it was usually the low HP people (like Edwin/Viconia). But they died a lot less once they got a few levels under their belt. The only disaster (or near disaster) was the misclick in the crypts killing Viconia.

Still on a whole it was very smooth and clockwork. IF (that that's a BIG if) I get through BG 2 and ToB successfully, may move the level up, to hard or insane. Also, while my intention wsa to dual to a mage at level 9, I realized with 20 WIS my guy could be a rocking cleric (heck a lot better than Anomen!). Was thinking of maybe Minsc, myself dualed to cleric, Jan, and Nalia (she makes a good arch mage. Imoen does to but only if you get her early).

Since this was a Trilogy no-reload run, exporting my guy to BG 2 and continuing there. So moving on to the BG 2 no-reload thread. Good luck for the rest of you doing your BG 1 runs.

Update on soloing elven Fighter / Mage / Thief Syroluin:
In Beregost, Syroluin defeated assassin Karlat. Then, he traveled to Nashkel. He visited the town and nearby carnival, conversed with locals and learned about problems in Nashkel mines. Syroluin briefly visited the area and helped artist Prism against bounty hunter Greywolf. Syroluin returned north, met Melicamp the chicken and brought him to mage Thalantyr in High Hedge, who transformed him back to human form.

Posted Image

Syroluin traveled further north. He visited Anheg infested area and Wyrm Crossing, where he helped priestess of Umberlee Tenya against Talosian fishermen.

Posted Image

Finally, Syroluin raised enough funds to purchase some vital spells from Thalantyr. He successfully learned all the spells thanks the Red potion, which temporarily sets intelligence to 25.
In Friendly Arm Inn, Syroluin was forced to defend himself against assassin Tarnesh waiting for him. Fortunately, local guards helped him and killed Tarnesh.

Posted Image

Back in Nashkel, Syroluin was attacked by another assassin Neira. He killed her, rested in the inn and started to investigate local mine. He found underground sanctuary, where he confronted Mulahey and his cohort. Syroluin prevailed thanks to combination of fighting, magic and stealth and returned back to Nashkel to collect reward from Berrun Ghastkill.

Posted Image

Syroluin revisited carnival and accidentally entered tent of mad mage Zordral. Luckily, he had Potion of Absorption and Wand of Lightning ready.

Posted Image

Local Amnish guards helped Syroluin in fight against yet another assassin – Nimbul.
Letter found in Mulahey’s chest revealed bandit contact in Beregost – mage Tranzig. Syroluin confronted him and learned about position of Bandit camp.
Syroluin is currently level 4/3/4 with 30 HP.

My fighter/thief Jennifer Shadow was slain by the Bandit Camp leaders. I feel I didn't properly prepare for the battle. Well technically I did have a chance but a slim one. The mage keeps pumping melf's acid arrow and that's a pretty deadly thing right there. But it's alright, not a bad thing. At least there was no "uh oh" death but a clean defeat.

@shadowleech: You could have prepared by gulping a magic blocking potion before you entred the tent. This would have helped resist some of the mojo being thrown at you. Magic shielding potion could have worked as well. Even just invulernability potion might have helped.

BlackStrider scouted Gang of Amazons and ruled his Band calling fire on himself:

Got some bug here - talked to fishmen and then cleared ankhed nest not even talked to Brun about his missing son. Yeah I had a green magic scroll but I wanted to save it and well that's the end of that story I guess. I kind of hate it when I feel rushed to get to the next step which was to get the boots of speed and just fall utterly short. In hindsight I did have the resources to get another magic blocking potion. Heck I even had a magic resistance potion in the inventory but as usual I felt my poor F/T could hold out. I was so wrong and well again very sloppy playing.

In other news I'm starting a new "Band of Tens" group and it's actually more optimized now, ironic since the challenge wasn't about optimization. It's a weird feeling but we'll see what happens.

*Edit I kind of erm...suicided the party. Probably will go back to F/T.

*Edit I don't like playing the same thing consecutively so I'll try an evil party. I've never done an evil party so this seems like a good time to try it out.

Journal of Calvin Staves
Hello to whomever it make concern, today I announce my plans to rid myself of this horrible indentured servitude under the most "helping hand" of my "foster father" Gorion. I've had enough of this pathetic existence, I can be so much more then this. It is a waste of my talents.

A aged buffoon by the name of Firebeard Elvenhair tried to force me to do one of his obnoxious fetch errands. I murdered the old fool right then and there with the arrows I bought from Winthrop. He'll probably be revived by one of the several maggots crawling around in that dustbin they call a library.

I take a visit to the Barracks, a man named Fuller ask me to fetch some bolts for him. Now, this I can do. I don't mind this guy Fuller he's a man who knows bloodshed, not like that pansy Firebeard. I can respect that. I just happen to have some bolts in my pack and I give it to him. I also snag a nice long sword and an antidote potion in the chest. It's time to get out of here.

Apparently my "foster father" Gorion also had a similar idea, that I should leave Candlekeep. Very well then, I can understand that. A brat named Imoen comes up to me and saids something but I tell her to eat roach. Gorion and I travel the following night where we are suddenly attacked by an armored figure. The old man tells me to make a run for it and do I! I run as fast as my legs can carry me, and I can make a mad dash if necessary. The sounds of battle were faraway but I did manage to find myself a nice place to sleep.

The following day, the brat shows up again telling me something about how boring it is in Candlekeep and how she wants to follow me. Well I tell her to get lost once again. I find her voice so irritating that it makes me want to stab her in the throat! But she persists like gnat. I try to leave but she follows. So I stealth and then backstab her. This doesn't kill her outright so she figures she needs to fight the good fight. Very well, one more strike from my sword and her body is mangled beyond recognition. Digging through it however proved to be much rewarding. This brat had a oil of speed potion on her and several healing potions! I must have hit the jackpot or something. She's worth more dead then alive.

Furthur up north, I see the results of last night's encounter. The old man croaked and I have some additional digging around to do. He's got some gold him, and the dead ogres nearby have other items of use. I travel south to Beregost.

In Feldepost, a drunkard named Marl agitates me. I backstab him twice and then shoot arrows at him, and in no time he's good as dead.

Firebeard is alive in Beregost! But so quickly? Those Candlekeep monks are quite the impressive bunch. It also seems the old buffoon is suffering from a kind of mental disease. He doesn't even remember I murdered him. I quickly stealth and backstab him, but he dimension doors away after surviving the hit.

I fought two ugly beasts called ogrillions in the area south of Beregost. One of them had a letter with them, so I decided to go back into town and see who this letter belonged to. Perhaps I could get some kind of monetary reward. She gave me a ring of protection and managed to cry a river of tears. That alone has made my day.

A flaming fist mercenary accosts me in the middle of daylight! He thinks I look suspicious or something so threats aside we begin to fight. After running around and hiding among trees shooting arrows at him I end his life and take his impressive plate armor.

Visited the town of Nashkel. The mayor said something about the town's mines and I decided that I might as well check it out, it's not like I had anything better to do. I find a runaway thief named Prism and he tells me that he has a bounty on his head. Well this poor man just made the worst mistake of his life! I tell him I'll kill him and take the bounty for myself, but what's this? He saids he'll give me everything he has for his life. Well, from the looks of him, he doesn't seem like much of a bounty. I might as well take everything he has on now, that plan hasn't failed me much. However, later on as he is finishing his art(if you can call it that) a man named Greywolf appears and he is actually a bounty hunter after this Prism man. I decide to defend this person, because whatever he has on him it must be something worth defending. I lead Greywolf to an abandoned building and then proceed to backstab and shoot him to death.

Prism speaks to me once more, telling me that he's finished, then he goes and drops dead. I rummage through his body and find a very good treasure, two emeralds! What an astounding amount of wealth this thief managed to steal. I suppose in death he could earn the respect of a fellow thief. Or maybe not, he's dead after all.
