Then headed north to Ulgoth's Beard. Punished some fishermen for a priestess on the way and also did some dodging in and out of her house in dealing with a rogue ankheg. At the town I set some traps for Dushai, but tried to give him a chance by pickpocketing him. As Shael's skill is poor at this I regularly talked to him as this sometimes interrupts the script causing a failed pickpocket attempt to make someone hostile. After about a dozen failed attempts I concluded this tactic would be successful and quaffed the thieving potion confiscated from Vitiare - sod's law of course kicked in as Dushai went hostile at virtually the same time. As he died immediately no one else turned hostile, but it was still a waste of a potion. While in town also purchased a new cloak and an amulet to provide some protection against those charming characters met in the game.

In order to speed-up Imoen's level-up (to regain her thief abilities) Band Of Four made some spider-hunting:

In the same area Band encountered some Red Wizards and even tho BlackStrider's temper is quite smooth/*nordic*, the conversation quickly went hot. So he shut'em all and they rushed in melee, where they hadn't any chance (which once again prove there *wrong-in-a-mind*):

After some country trip in area with xvarts-hunting-cow Band rested in Nashkel Inn and now planning their next destination.

Short update on soloing elven Fighter / Mage / Thief Syroluin:
After solving problems with Nashkel mines and learning about Bandit camp position, Syroluin decided to accumulate more experience.
He started with exterminating pack of wolves, hunting near Beregost temple.

He also briefly visited Durlag’s tower, killed two Battle Horrors guarding outside using wand of magic missiles, destroyed number of Ghasts haunting upper floors, freed succubus Kirinhale and killed poor Riggilo.

Next, Syroluin traveled to Basilisk/infested area east of Beregost temple. Protected via scroll he purchased from merchant in Nashkel carnival, Syroluin managed to slay all basilisks and return to Beregost.

In the town, he helped bard Silke against Feldepost thugs. On behalf of paladin Bjornin, Syroluin defeated Half-Ogres and returned to Beregost to collect reward from Bjornin. Syroluin finally accumulated enough money to purchase full plate mail from Thunderhammer (Friends spells helps to significantly decrease prices). He is currently level 5/5/6 with 40HP.

Thanks. For me, the biggest obstacle is maximum difficulty. Double damage dealt by monsters means that a lot of hits could be potentially lethal. On the other hand, I play vanilla, so no Sword Coast Stratagems and similar "insane" add-ons

Capped play has become the standard here for soloers. We've had at least 5 successful capped solo runs in the last couple months- 1 Vanilla (F/M/T) and 4 with SCS (Archer, Beastmaster, Monk, Sorceress).
Best,
A.
Btw. Best of luck V! I hope Syroluin makes it!
Btw. And I agree: double damage does make a big, big difference in BG1.

And of course best of luck with Syroluin! I respect your adherence to vanilla BG1. The only thing that stops me from using it nowadays is that it looks ...*huge* on my LCD... And even tho we have that wonderfull widescreen mod there are problems with fog of war on nvidia card and annoying scrolling speed. So I use TuTu GUI and Infinity Animations to at least visually come near original (it looks much much better IMO).

Here's my update
Calvin Staves
Fighter lvl 5/ thief lvl 5
It must be my imagination but I came across a talking chicken today, just to the south of the area known as the High Hedge. The first thought that came across my mind was that my dinner had come to me, and that it even spoke as well. But then the thought of roasting a chicken that had spoken to me was actually not quite as delicious as it sounds. I left the chicken at the High Hedge, apparently this chicken was the apprentice of the wizard and I shouldn't be bothered with such trivial things. I'll come around back there every now and then to taunt him though. Such a hilarious predicament.
A man walked up to me in the middle of a field nearby a forest and asked me if I wanted to buy some cheap potions from him. I told him to hand over all his inventory to me. He turned out to be some kind of wizard! Frightened I ran way.
Brage, a crazed man came about me ranting about death. This man was quite impressive, there were bodies all around him, I could admire his work. After I spoke with him a bit he began to regret what he had done. He spoke about his reputation being ruined or something along those lines. This man threw himself off his own high horse. Pitiful I'll say. I could have been bothered with much less, but apparently the man had a death wish. I kind of hoped he'd continue on his rampage as I had been getting quite the reputation myself and having a man like Brage deflecting some of it would be quite nice. However, the man seemed as if he wanted to kill himself so I decided to bring him to the authorities instead, perhaps there would be some reward involved.
Went bassilisk hunting today. Bought several enchanted arrows and a green scroll of protection from petrification. The hunting went well. The owner of all these bassilisk was not very happy with me making sport of his pets and consequently attacked me. A ghoul(or ghast?) I recently befriended attacked and stunned the poor man. My arrows let fly and down this owner went. All in all it was a good day.
I spot two persons on the road near Candlekeep, named Xzar and Montaron. I decide to take them in, as I feel they will be most useful to me. We enter Beregost where we are recruited by a dwarf named Kagain.
In Nashkel a man named Noober came across us over the bridge. He spoke continuously as if he didn't seem to care who we were, he just liked to talk. Before we could tell him to shut up, our weapons found their way to him first. We heard not a peep from him later. A Red Wizard was on the bridge as well, we decided to see what he was all about. He wanted to recruit us to find a woman named Dynaheir and kill her. Now I am no fool, and certainly distaste being sent on some ridiculous mission to find a woman who I know nothing about. An enemy of a Red Wizard can be a powerful one at most and why should I dare challenge an enemy of the Red Wizards without the proper compensation? But this arrogant idiot refused to name the reward and left in a stubborn mess.
After much thinking I will certainly need a cleric of some kind. There is one in the Carnival that I passed, and while I know nothing of her except she is a cleric, I will recruit her as it benefits my needs. I doubt she will have any objections to what I am all about but if she proves of furthur use I will not have to dispose of her later.
The Nashkel Mines proved to be easy for the most part. The director of the mines, a man named Mulahey was probably weaker then any of us. Well maybe not Branwen as she wasn't even wearing any armor. We took care of that after we killed Mulahey. She now wears everything that was once his.
We did not have to wait for a more fitting challenge for our party. An assassin group full of women were targeting us. We are most certainly the reputable group. These enemies were powerful and I bear full responsibility for Xzar's death, wait what am I saying? I could care less that idiot died. He did die and when we find the time, we will most certainly raise him. However he is not important at the moment. What is important is that in our time of need, Branwen, our cleric pulled through. Yes, that strange priestess woman I keep around actually did something then heal. She summoned what seemed to be a horde of skeletons and they wiped away whatever advantage these amazon women had over us. I am certainly glad we have an amazon on our side!
Kobold Commandoes ambushed us on Firewine Bridge, killing Branwen. I do not feel like I should pay a thousand gold just to revive Branwen as I did Xzar. We will just have to make do without her unfortunately at the moment. It will be a long road from here on out. We kill an arrogant man named Meilum and take his sword and gauntlets.

She's going solo.
If solo, the #1 spell for defense for my solo run was entangles and later skeletons. Sanctuary not bad if you are desperate.
Entangle is Druids only in my install so Alena won't be using that. Animate Dead can be helpful, but I'm generally unfond of using summons as a matter of style and enjoyment. Summoning isn't as broken in Tutu as it was in vanilla but I still don't find it to be a pleasurable way to fight- unless I'm playing a Druid.
I'm sure she'll have a few skellies around at times though.
Sanctuary will see a lot of use- primarily for in combat buffing.
The only bad thing really about a cleric is their 1 APR, but with their massive STR they can get with buffs, that compensates somewhat.
Alena is a Priest of Lathander. The Boons grant an additional attack per round. That stacks with Haste and Improved Haste. In BG2, she'll be able to get up to 6 apr if she wants to- more if she duels to a thief.
APR isn't going to be terribly important for her though. Her comparative advantages are going to be in weapon speed and reach (0 Speed Factor w/ range of 2 using the Martial Staff), damage per hit, and range fighting (Sling of Seeking + Reflection Shield in BG2). It will rarely make sense to have her stand in the same place for an entire round.
Best,
A.

I'd gotten a little bored of wandering around the wilderness areas so decided to advance the plot and head to Nashkel Mines.
I have basically all the difficulty-enhancing components of SCS installed, including the Dark-Side kobolds. Clearing the mine was pretty straightforward - we were over-leveled at level 5 - but we did have to use basically all our spells (I'd decided to do the whole thing in one go).
If you haven't played this component before, basically the number of kobolds in some areas is somewhat increased:

Also there are Kobold Guards and Elites with poisoned daggers (several of which show up to help Mulahey), and a Kobold Chieftain and Shaman guarding the entrance to the bottom level of the mine. The battle against the Shaman and Chieftain was made pretty easy by the Wand of Fear with both failing their save. I'm sure I could have won without it but I wasn't sure what spells the Shaman had so took no chances.

Against Mulahey we buffed with the Shield Amulet, Strength of One, Barkskin and Flame Blade.

I slightly mistimed Arande's LMD which meant Tanarakt got held (I couldn't see the casting graphic because Mulahey's pre-buffs were in the way). Mulahey also got a Resist Fear off which protected his kobold buddies from the Wand of Fear. However they could do nothing against Doom + Wand of Sleep.

Mulahey himself was Doomed then hit with Summon Insects and Rigid Thinking (I had extra Summon Insects, Rigid Thinking and Miscast Magic spells; the odds of him passing all those saves was negligible). Flame Blades cut him down and then the remaining kobolds and skeletons were mopped up pretty easily.

It is nice. When I make the items, I try to design them such that they can be relevant throughout BGII without being unbalancing in BG1.
Bracers that provide permanent Bless and a +1 movement rate bonus make sense since there are bracers which are arguably more powerful available very early in BG1 (Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise, which would stack with a cast Bless). Nonetheless, they could still come in handy late in the game due to the movement rate bonus.
I also picked permanent Bless because I always feel royaly jipped whenever casting Bless breaks Sanctuary.
Do you accept?
At the moment, I'll decline the Wisdom 25 challenge because I'm not certain I want to do the the Machine- nor would I neccessarily get Star from the Deck.
I may accept at a later time.

A.

Alena has cleansed the Nashkel mines of Mulahey's taint. The most interesting battle occured before the final confrontation when Alena was ambushed by a veritable army of Kolbolds at the entrance to Mulahey's den.
First, here is Alena's character information circa the mines:

For those wondering about the armor, it's just the Nashkel Ankheg Plate cosmetically altered. Green looked ugly on her. I'm calling it Wyvern Scale Mail. The Bracers are her personal item: Lightspeed.
So: onto the combat. The first Kolbold encounters were a breeze: Alena just put them to Sleep and decked them.

Things got a little messy after that.
SCS apparently doesn't like you Sanctuarying past stuff. I don't enjoy fighting Kolbolds: it's dull. I often stealth past them to reach Mulahey. I've done it Hidden in Shadows and I've done it invisible: both worked fine. Sanctuaried...not so much interestingly.
When Alena crossed the threshold into the Mulahey's foyer, all the critters in the earlier area plopped in ahead of her- including the Huge Spiders. Bummer.
The Shaman was in the brew so I had Alena activate the Greenstone Amulet. I also had her drink a Potion of Freedom just in case he had a Hold spell in his book. I haven't seen one, but I've also never been in a protracted battle with him- better to be safe. And besides, with the Wand of Sleep (I'm restricting the Necklace of Missles in this run), it should be possible to finish off the Kolbolds and Mulahey before the Potion wears off. Should. Or not.
The Shaman Blinded Alena. The problem, of course, it that the duration of Blindness is comensurate with that of a Potion of Freedom. So much for completing both encounters on the same Potion. Oh how I wish I had allocated a Cure Disease at Level 3. Lesson learned.
In any event, once the Shaman started Summoning Monsters, I really didn't like the looks of things.

Quaff and go.
Back to High Hedge. I'd like one Potion of Explosions please. And I'll take that Potion of Strength now too since I suddenly have a bottleneck at Level 3...
Back in. This time with a Potion of Explosion and Cure Disease at 3.
Boom!

Blind!

Counter!

And close.

That bugger is either immune to Sleep or ridiculously lucky because he made his save half a dozen times...
Anyhoo: to Mulahey.
Entered Sanctuaried. Potion of Freedom (carried over from the earlier encounter), Potion of Strength, Pro Evil, Chant, Draw on Holy Might, Greenstone Amulet, and Boon of Lathander.

The battle was quick: no injuries. Alena broke Sanctuary with a Doom.

She followed with a Holy Smite.

Then a Hold.

Then a beatdown.

Fin!
Best,
A.
