@ Grond0. That's a good question. I launched the Fireball without concern for Genthore because he was tactically irrelevant at that point. I was expecting him to go hostile. I'm not sure why he didn't. He took a savage beating before turning red. Again, not sure why.

It really didn't matter though: Alana was in complete control there.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alana's Game:

Alana has arrived in Baldur's Gate after trouncing Davaeorn. She took no injuries in the fray.

I'll post on the Davaeorn fight soon.

Alana v. Davaeorn

Alana's battle with Davaeorn was quick and clean: she took no injuries and finished within a few rounds. Buffs and disruption won the day.

Alana's buffs were Potion of Mind Focusing, Pro Fire, Pro Acid, Pro Electricity, Pro Cold, Potion of Fire Resistance, Potion of Cold Resistance, Potion of Insulation, Oil of Speed, Potion of Frost Giant Strength, Potion of Regeneration, Shield, and Potion of Magic Shielding.
Image IPB
Image IPB

With the buffs in place, the battle was straightforward: she charged the Battle Horrors, fired her Necklace when Davaeorn spoke, and then stabbed the Master of the Mines to death. It couldn't have been simpler.

Quick Note On Alana's Game:

Alana's first order of business in The Gate was restocking her Potion Case and bolstering her tactical use ammunition larder. It is amazing how fast 20K gold can go when you are a potion junkie. She is now broke, but well supplied.

Next update after Candlekeep.

Best,

A.

Edit: Alana has escaped from Candlekeep she is doing some trading in the south before returning to The Gate.

Feral just failed in the mines against Mulahey.  Her intended strategy was to stealth in, cast silence from out of sight of Mulahey, then retreat back to the door to sleep kobolds when they appeared.  However, Mulahey reacted much more quickly than I expected once casting started.  Normally when I go in there's a perceptible gap between arriving and him coming to investigate who's at the door, but I presume that this delay had been used up by Feral coming in, even though she was under stealth.  Caught by surprise, with no armour on and the exit blocked she fought bravely, but in vain.

I've got at least a couple of tried and trusted methods for disposing of Mulahey that can be done by any character, but was trying something new this time to fit in with the particular abilities of a ranger / cleric - I should have known better!  I think I might just restart Feral to see if she can progress a bit better than that.

Condolences.

George, TN human male kensai. Travelling with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Coran and Yeslick.

Grumpy dwarf. OK, OK, we take care of Natasha and the ogre mage while Coran loots everything he can find. Then we flood the mine, and the dwarf shuts up.

Time to grab some equipment.

(George now seems cabable of looking after himself most of the time. Only recent danger was Larze who forced a run after two hits).

Sorry for your loss Grond0. As I'm sure you know, C/Rs have potential in Trilogy runs. No reason to abandon her because of an early foul up.

I look forward to seeing what she can do.

Obviously I can't say for certain, but maybe you're getting a little stingy with your high value Potions? Seems the last two deaths stemmed from a desire to go the cheap route (Clarity against Semaj, Silence against Mulahey).

Not a critique of course. It's tough to budget appropriately if you are a "do it all" player. It might be worth thinking about re-balancing though. I don't know.

Best,

A.

Alana in Candlekeep

Just a few highlights (and lowlights)  of Alana's journey through the Keep.

Protection from Poison and Spiders Bane handled the Phase Spiders. A Potion of Fire Resistance, and the Boots of Grounding took the edge off the traps. A Storm Giant Strength Potion cracked the locks.
Image IPB

With her Potion of Storm Giant Strength still running- along with a Potion of Clarity, a Potion of Mind Focusing, a Potion of Regeneration, and a Potion of Defense, the Dopplegangers had little hope against Alana.
Image IPB

A Potion of Mirror Eyes let Alana drop the Basilisks with ease. Got a nice Critical here.
Image IPB

The only tense moment came when Alana re-emerged from the Catacombs. She was pinned between a pair of Air Elementals and a crew of Ogre Mages. Were it not for her remaining Greenstone Amulet charge, a Potion of Magic Shielding would have been lost.
Image IPB

Alana with return to The Gate shortly (no pun intended...).

Best,

A.

@Gate70. I have to say, your inventories are very tiddy...

I'm also jealous of your Helms. Alana still doesn't have a good hat. :(

Helm of Balduran should be available, appreciate you don't use the saving throw benefits but interested to see you ignore 5hp and -1ac.

Inventory is easy with this party so far. They are ranged/melee attack and Imoen is currently a passenger, ie I'm being lazy after some more tactical runs. Should liven up shortly.

Yeah. Alana picked it up. By the time my characters get to Baldur's Gate, I'm usually so focused on finishing that I don't wander at all. There is a LOT of the city that I've never seen. This was actually the first time any of my characters went to the Helm and Cloak.

Incidentally, are there any Invisibility Potions stashed around Baldur's Gate? Lana could use a few.

A.

I am the same to some extent, I find that by the time I get to Baldur's Gate I just want to advance the story. Which is a shame in a way because there's a ton of content and quests I've either not done or only done once.

Re Invisibility Potions, I think there may be one or more for sale in a potion shop in SW Baldur's Gate, and another in a house in North BG (not sure if you can grab it without getting into trouble).

Thanks ToV. Alana has already used the ones from Sorcerer's Sundries. She got the one from Rinnie's place which I believe is the stashed one you were referring to.

Is there another shop with PoIs?

Best,

A.

Btw. It is a shame. But I find it hard to justify dallying once I'm in the midst of the story. I always say that I'll explore after Sarevok, but I just get eager to move onto BGII- especially when I am No Reloading.

Someday I'll see the big city, I just know I'll make it...:P

2 potion shops in SE section, 1 in SW and Jaheira usually has one if you're prepared to put up with her for 5 seconds (too late for you this time). May be more, I have obtained another from somewhere this run but may have been on an opponent. ** EDIT, stores are here
Image IPB

How hard can the Iron Throne be? We'll just web and entangle them, adding doom, silence and hold person.
Image IPB

I'm getting injured, no problem. Now I'm confused, as is Coran. Oh dear.
Image IPB

Yeslick casts DUHM to risks the entangled web. Imoen stupidly moved in to help and is stuck. I've been Melfed and as I'm too confused to gulp a potion Jaheira has to try and heal me. She gets stuck too. Yeslick is getting stuck in and Khalid is making sure Alai is too hurt to cast another spell.

My ill-effects wear off and we finish our enemies within moments.
Image IPB

Yeslick and Khalid have saved the day.

Scar is pleased to hear we have sorted out the Seven Suns, more so when we tell him an ogre mage and his carrion crawlers are dead too. He grants us an audience with Duke Eltan and we are on our way back to Candlekeep.

Once there we deal with the Iron Throne leaders, and escape justice. Coran picks up injury after injury by stumbling into traps so we decide to move on.

A few doppelgangers are easy, a larger group pretend to be Gorion and Elminster. They injure me badly but we rest and continue.

Prat and his gang are next. They don't last log, then we kill some spiders and two greater basilisks. Kagain, Jaheira and Coran all learn from this, and Coran insists we return to test the traps.

He's improved enough for us to find all the remaining traps, and we eventually emerge into daylight.

If I recall correctly there's one in the Revenant Tomb in the area the exit from the bottom level of the Nashkel Mines leads to.

Cythandria causes chaos. We kill her and her ogres but I kill Khalid too so we have to go to a temple and get him sorted out.

Then we deal with Slythe and Kristin.

(George is now at 67k xp so I'm going to see how he does in the expansion before risking the coronation).

Update on Alana's Game

The Dukes have been saved. Sarevok is on the run!

First, Slythe and Krystin.

As per usual, Alana went on a drinking binge before the battle. When she was done, she was ready to throw down.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Krystin boxed Alana in with Skeletons. But Slythe had just enough room to slip in and threaten Alana. Fortunately, Alana was too much for Slythe to handle.
Image IPB

She loved him for his mind. Now it's staining the carpet...

Once Slythe fell, Alana noticed there were no civilians around. A Potion of Explosions cleared those pesky Skeletons.
Image IPB

The hunt for Krystin was on. Standard Mage killing tactics here: Arrow of Dispelling -> Darts of Wounding. Alana finished with her Sling.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

With Krystin dead, Alana hurriedly picked up the loot and raced to the Duchal Palace with her buffs still active. The Potion of Regeneration healed her along the way. Quaffed an Oil of Speed en route.

Arrival: Potion of Power, Potion of Clarity, refresh Draw on Holy Might. Begin.

I hate this fight: I really do. No matter how many times I've done it, I never feel in control. At the very least, I wish I could check the Dukes hitpoint totals. Maybe then I'd feel less helpless (And yes, I could count but that would ruin the moment).

Happily, Tymora was on Alana's side- payback for the Antichickenator perhaps...
Image IPB

Had to go to the basement to finish. Wow that video was annoying: I thought Belt would croak before it ended...
Image IPB

Alana is now resting at the Elfsong. She has some shopping to do before hitting the Maze.

Best,

A.

Absolutely - always have beenImage IPB.  I need to be wet through before wondering if it might be a rainy day.  No excuses for the first loss, but Feral was trying to progress as fast as possible in game time, so she had some reason for taking it easy on resources.

Feral #2 is well under way.  She followed a similar route to #1 as far as Beregost, except that she remembered that boots of stealth can actually be used by rangers rather than selling them.

In Nashkel used the carnival ogre to open a couple of chests for me and help take out Zordral.  Also sold the ankheg armour in order to buy necklace of missiles.  On to the mines where Feral rested for the first time.  She then recruited Greywolf to act as a meat shield against the kobolds, while she used charms and the odd sleep to work through.  If there was a clear passage she would just stealth through, but there's a road block in the way.  From prior experience I know that, while most enemies will move in response to a character under sanctuary, the ones actually blocking the passage will not - so some fighting is inevitable.

No mistakes this time with Mulahey - 1 sleep and 1 fireball being used to make his support manageable - although there was one straight afterwards, which could have been painful.  I decided that Feral should retreat back through the mines, but forgot she had tiptoed through a set of traps on the way down and she gaily set them all off.  Fortunately she wasn't down on hits at the time.

Nimbul fell to the town guard led by Minsc and back in Beregost I thought Marl deserved to take his aggression out on Tranzig.  He proved not up to the job, so Feral had to finish him off.  She has just arrived at the bandit camp and taken her second rest - day 6 hour 10 game time.

Edit: finished the camp.  The only likely problem was Venkt and by the time he arrived Feral has already suborned 2 black talons.  One of them interrupted Venkt's first spell, just before the fireball went off, and he got no second attempt.  Thereafter Feral just ran round the camp, pausing occasionally to charm another pursuer.  She only got hit by one arrow during that time.

So how many have you found in total? One with Jaheira, one in the Revenant Tomb, one from Rinnie's. Then how many from the shops? I'm curious about this myself, not so much for my current game but for the future it'd be useful to know where they all are.

EDIT: there's one in Durlag's Tower too I think

EDIT 2: and another with the party you can fight in the Basilisk area

I have 3 in my current game. One from Jaheira, must be one from Kirian but none from shops or tomb. So at least one more but I can't remember where (it will be from an enemy or a container as I've bought none.

The two shops I marked have one each.

George, TN human male kensai. Travelling with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Coran and Yeslick.

Yeslick and Coran rescue Duke Eltan so we can get him to the safety of the harbour master before heading to Ulgoths Beard and Shandalar.

Coran asks Yeslick to send a pair of skeletons ahead then lays two traps. First he snares Andris, following to backstab him. Beyn gets a second backstab, Marcellus a third and Beyn two frontal hits. Nice work Coran.
Image IPB

Garan is little trouble, other than confusing me. Yeslick dispels my affliction after I finish off the ankhegs.

Cuchol gets a backstab and Yeslick kills him, but Yeslick & Coran are both confused again. They recover without incident.

I've looked into this a little more. According to this site:

www.forgottenwars.com/bg1/ar4900.htm

there's one in one of the tents in the Carnival, and also one in the Manor House in Nashkel.

EDIT: and another in the Manor House in Beregost

EDIT 2: I forgot about the one in the Candlekeep Catacombs as well

Hey all,

I will be entering the challenge with a solo Priest of Lathander. If she makes it to Baldur's Gate 2 she will try to pull off level 21 dual-class to mage. I don't think SoA should be a huge problem. Chaotic Commands and Free Action will protect her from 80% of the stuff that typically kills soloers. Skeleton Warriors and Aerial Servants are great summons, so she can probably avoid fighting most battles herself.  The mage levels shouldn't be a huge problem either. They can take care of themselves very early on, and by this time she will have plenty of scrolls and money.

I haven't played Baldur's Gate 1 nearly as much, so this is the part I'm the most nervous about. I think I will be relying heavily on wands. I will be posting pictures soon.

I tried selling a Wand of the Heavens to a few of the early game merchants using a dummy character. They all recharge it to 100 charges. Is there anyone that only recharges 25 or 50 charges? The 22.000 gold price is a bit high at this point.
