Congrats, Alesia! Your Halfling lass steamrolled through as F1 bolide . Best of luck in SoA! :)

Welcome & good luck QED and angiras :)

Little update of BlackStrider & Co
Band Of Six cleaned Mirkwood (aka Cloakwood). Pink Ninja scouted under invisibility and disarmed traps. Got Spiderbane for Coran and hunt wyverns. Now onto the Mines.

It was the ones in the area where you defend the cow from the xvarts. I've fought similar battles before but we weren't so well-prepared for this one (had used all our Call Lightning already). I should have been patient and gone to rest up somewhere before trying it. You're right about the Ogre Berserkers. My main issue with them right now is that we don't have the Golden Girdle so even with Doom they don't need crits to hit Tanarakt - he has a buffed AC vs slashing weapons of -3 which isn't good enough. Also without Call Lightning we have no fast way to kill them other than wands.

I've been recently bringing up Jennifer Shadow back to the Bandit Camp where her previous incarnation died and just wanted to note a really good drop by a lowly Xvart. An single arrow of dispelling! Well that's it for now.

The stats are obviously cheated. Strength and Constitution are important in BG1, but will not be very important in BG2. Intelligence will have little effect as a Cleric, but is essential for the dual-class to work. She will need all the help she can get in BG1, and I don't have the patience for an hour of rerolling. I also added a Bag of Holding and a potion case.

I'm using Easytutu with tutufix. I have BG2 missile stacks and BG1 summons. I'm using Core rules, but I will maximize HP at level up.

They also recharge it with 100 charges. The number of charges seems to depend on the type of wand, not on the shop.

Can't a K13->M do basically just as well?  In your example you have 8
APR with BBoD and 2 with FoA.  Compare with 8 APR with with BBoD and 2
with Belm.  You miss out on maybe 5 damage per hit plus whatever Belm
can't hit.  Much easier dual, although the Kensage can't maintain Max
Damage as long.  Of course, you get other benefits like all the C/M
sequencer tricks.

Fighter/mages are obviously very powerful, but I really don't want to play as a solo Kensai in BG1. The reason why I want to play as a Cleric/Mage is really personal preference. They also have many nice tricks up their sleeves. Timestop + Lower Magic Resistance + Harm is almost as good a boss killer as seven spike traps.

Grond0 wrote...

There is a lot of fun to be had with Cleric buffs and Shapechanging.

That's true. While the Iron Golem form isn't quite as powerful as BBoD it is one of the most awesome ways to play the game. Mind Flayers with 10 APR and 25 Strength come to mind. Maybe a Mustard Jelly with Blade Barrier.

Jennifer was killed by a lesser bassilisk waylay, just an unlucky ambush not how I would've liked the game ending. I think I need to keep a note not to venture in and out of the Gullykin area frequently.

You are a bunch of druids right? cast entangle! Then just back off and pick them off you don't have to kill them fast then.

We were out of Entangle, but you're right, it's very useful especially with Doom.

EDIT: actually it's ridiculous that we had no Entangles given how many level 1 spells we have between the six of us. I need to give higher priority to memorising a couple more each day.

@shadow_leech: consolations to the end of your run. Any time you go to Ulcaster School, Gullykin or Basilisks area, you need either invisibility potion or potion of mirror eyes on your main character. You'd be surprised at how many no-reloads over the years have ended to that basilisk waylay!

Just reflecting on Feral's ability to run away from a spider web - it might be worth pointing out that the ambushing basilisk always appears to your north.  If you run south it won't even get the chance for an attack.  The only danger is that basilisk tends to appear a second or two after other ambushing monsters so if you run at them straight away you put yourself in danger.  As Corey says you just need to be aware of the possibility of basilisks in that area.

Since her escape from the Cloakwood Feral has been picking up speed.  The only combats she took on in the city were watching Gorpal Hind and his merry men beat up the intruders at the Helm and Cloak and working her way up a tower to fry Ramazith at the top.  She now has a plentiful supply of potions and used a storm giant strength to open the chests in the Candlekeep catacombs - otherwise just stealthed through there.  She has just returned to the city and rescued one duke and is on her way to get Slythe and Kristin.  Feral is now cleric 6 / ranger 6 and is on game day 17.

Thanks.  Slythe and Kristin are now history.  I was hoping to get him on his own, but Kristin followed after a bit.  Originally Feral had 2 potions of mind focusing and invulnerability up as well as magic shielding.  That gave her AC of -11, which was enough for even Slythe to have trouble with.  A few nice whacks with her morning star and a bit of minor damage with wand of heavens put paid to Slythe.  Kristin unfortunately used remove magic so Feral had to renew her magic shielding, but didn't need much else to wear down Kristin with a dual morning star and hammer attack.  With her blood roused she wasn't watching where she was going and a bystander suffered a nasty accident.  That meant the shops are now asking 4,800 for a potion of power!

A quick stop at the temple for some healing and then time for the palace.

Fair enough. I assume 4 or 10 APR is with things like improved haste, Tensers transformation (scratch that, you mentioned casting) and maybe the true grandmastery tweak topping up the inherited proficiency of the blade? Sounds like a lot of chances to disintigrate enemies though.

Oh, and welcome (back), congratulations, condolences, etc to everybody else. Busy here again.

No, this doesn't appear to work - successfully won the fight at the palace, but was told I needed documentary evidence before accusing Sarevok.  Went to get it, but when I came back Belt would no longer talk to me.

Looks like for the sake of trying to save an hour of game time this run has had itPosted Image.  Shame because I had the equipment to beat Sarevok and was on course for a finish in less than 18 game days, which was quicker than I had originally expected.

But I did get really lucky at one point. I was 3 HP away from death from a single lightning. Obviously I gulped my Absorbtion Potion and ran like the wind.

Grond0 - did you not battle Cynthia and take her diary? Belt has no trouble with my evidence when I present him that or did you not battle Cynthia? Sorry to hear end of your run, you were so close!

George, TN human male kensai. Travelling with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Coran and Yeslick.

Two skeletons kill Tellan (one enemy I tend to avoid), then we kill three winter wolves and Dezkiel. Shandalar suggests I go talk to Mendas.

Wolfweres. Coran finds something more interesting.
Posted Image

More wolfweres then into a shipwreck. The first deck is no trouble, after the second Khalid insists on resting while Imoen can memorise some more spells (level 7, thieving skills return).

Jaheira barkskins me, but Imoen trumps her with spirit armour too (-8ac, could be fun). A few more spells (gets to -9ac, THACO 3 for level 7 kensai). Game on.

Moments later we have cleared the penultimate deck with no injuries. We are still buffed so we throw caution to the wind and attack the final part of the ship. Karoug is soon alone, with Khalid (Kondar) and Imoen (silver dagger) attacking. Jaheira dooms him too, but Yeslick is getting shredded.
Posted Image

Yeslick steps back as does Imoen. Karoug attacks Khalid while Jaheira swaps the dagger of venom for Imoens silver dagger (meant to do this earlier, felt reasonable to do it as they had both stepped out of combat) and helps her partner. Coran has dealt with traps and I add the sword of Balduran our cause. Khalid has had enough so everybody steps back apart from me. Khalid and Jaheira return to help while Imoen casts an acid arrow.
Posted Image

Karoug hits me, I hit him. I'm still alive, he isn't - the villagers will be so pleased.

The islanders are werewolves. Just as we think we are safe we are surrounded. Khalid and I get badly wounded while Coran fends off two of them. We rush to his aid but are too late. Oh dear.

We skirt through some caverns, only killing one group of enemies. Kaishas Gan is outnumbered, falling to Khalid. On our return we get Coran raised, then finish Mendas and Baresh.

A detour via Durlags Tower beckons.

I didn't get the diary until after the battle at the palace and it seems that late presentation of the evidence is not allowed.

Next PC into the sausage grinder is Piccolo - a wizard slayer.  Potentially he could be dualled in BG2, but I'm not really thinking that far ahead at the moment.
Posted Image

I think just surviving will be more than enough challenge for this character, so he won't be undertaking a speed challenge as well.

Where does the 10 APR come from? Non-fighters don't get the additional attacks from having more than one proficiency point in a weapon, so the fact that BBoD grants Grandmastery in Long Sword won't affect your APR.

Coltan the halfling thief - post Cloak-wood success

@Grond0 - good luck with your new character! Off-hand I can't recall any wizard slayer toons that made it to the end of ToB and winning, so here's wishing you luck to be the 1st!

Coltan and party have finally made it to Baldur's Gate. By traveling in shadows whenever he can, Coltan has kept out of trouble himself. Some highlights since defeating Daveorn:

* Coltan made level 8 in the Brage area. This might be the best feature of being a thief, the fast leveling. He is 100 in both traps and locks. He will put the rest of the points into stealth, especially now that Garrick can handle any pickpocket duties we may have.
* Since the party has a lot of +2 weapons AND that both Garrick and Iomen can help with numerous high level magic missiles, I went ahead and spawned the doomsayer. He made Ajantis and Branwen back off, but thanks to some magic missiles the doomsayer fell.
* The mighty Kahrk falls. We just put some skeleton distractions around him and the key was a dispel magic from Garrick which removed most of his protections and haste, rendering him helpless to the party's might.
* Reputation at 20 for most of the game - this has made it MUCH easier on our pocket book, and cash is much better this run than last run.
* We went to Gullyking to engage Molkar and friends. Even though we fired off a horror and 2 fear wands and even though they were yelllow circle they still appeared to be fighting...odd. Well no matter as concentrated fire brought down the mage pretty quickly. In addition Branwen managed to hold 2 of them, while Ajantis got held the same time. The last guy mobile we slammed magic missiles from Imoen and Garrick, and was piece of cake to finish off the guys being held.
* Firewine Ruins - we always enter via Gullykin. We slammed the Ogre Mage from magic missiles from both Imoen and Garrick, the Ogre Mage might've actually died in LESS than a round. Ajantis was buffed with potion of absorption I think it called. This protected him from lightning and should have made it hard to get by the ogrillions. Nevertheless, Ajantis was in no danger of dieing but he couldn't finish the job himself (unlike Kagain last run), so the party had to help. But still victory. Imoen managed to fail to write the cloudkill to her spell book.
* Deserrta and Vay-ya - we used our best missiles, acid arrows and crossbow bolts of lightning, both of them fell VERY quick however just before Deserrta was killed she confused Ajantis. This is potentially really bad as there are numerous civilians Ajantis can kill which would trash our reputation. Luckily Garrick got a dispel magic off and got rid of that before Ajantis could do that.
* 5 Ogre Mages - opened with emotion, fear wand and a fireball. Problem was the emotion made inviisible ogre mages unconcious. We had to sit there a while until they woke up then finished them off.

Feel pretty good about this run. I don't see any reason why we can't get to Sarevok, unless I somehow mess up the Degrodel minions fight. But with all these magic missiles Imoen and Garrick can cast (and will even be more once we get that other ring of wizardry), I don't see that happening.

Dual-wielding grants 2 APR. 3 Boons of Lathander grant 3 more APR to the main-hand weapon. Improved Haste doubles my APR to 10.
