Yep, good luck Fred.

Zom

I can buy a magical sling, but not the shadow thief armour or dagger of venom. Regardless, time to move on.

Lots of bandits, and wildlife. I sidle up to Teven, brush some pretend dust off his shoulder and ask to join up. It works, and I get an introduction to Tazok. He wants to kill me, not good.

I hit him hard with my sling and run. I fluff another snare and miss twice with the sling so add a poisoned backstab before using more bullets. It's a classic battle of big and tough vs small and quick. Eventually I can see he's had enough but I haven't. Two more hits and he's still chasing, three more after that and I'm getting worried; I only have 1888 bullets left. Four more hits and still going.

Shadows and poison backstab. Triple damage but he's laughed it off (Tazokimator).

Ardenor Crush survives a poisoned backstab, but not a second backstab. Then I start to clear the camp one by one (good fun but takes a long time so going to be gutted when the inevitable happens).

With the hobgoblins thinned down I start on the bandits. The first is killed, but the second wings me. I hide and backstab him, only for him to hit me with his longsword. I tough it out but a critical hit is too much (thought I was safer in sword distance than arrow and didn't think I needed to gulp a potion for another hit, oh well). Another assassin, different race next,

When a druid is less than level 5, best bet is to entangle, then attack the enemies with ranged. Charming nearby animals could help as well.

Entangle IS one of the most powerful low-level spells in the game (probably better than the Druid's 2nd level options) but when your ranged attacks are missing literally 9 times out of 10 (assuming you have a Dex >15) even it's not that effective, and battles are slooow. I don't think I can face that again, but being a Fighter will at least give me a health boost through my Druid levels.

Agreed, Condolences, Gate70. If it's any consolation, I have heard of numerous solo assassin runs in BG 1, but I've yet to hear any that made it through all of BG 1, so you're in good company.

Forgot to mention Fred, don't forget dualing from a fighter, even a low level like 3, will also allow you to use fighter potions, very handy in BG 1.

@ Gate

Did you pick up the Shield Amulet? It's a very handy item for a solo thief because with it you get AC 4 (same as Shadow Armor) but can also wear a magical ring etc. at the same time. And by having non-magic Studded Leather equipped you still get the weapon-type specific AC bonuses. Immunity to Magic Missiles is useful too of course...

I'm intrested in joining this challenge, but just one question though, can I create my party from scratch in multiplayer??

Yes you can. My current run in the BG 2 thread is composed of multi-player characters using my family's portraits.

Creating a full party gives you the chance to roll good stats for them all, and to distribute them optimally. However, I don't think it gives you a significant advantage since you don't get the bonus XP from pickup up an NPC when you're already a higher level. Personally, whilst I am loathe to leave behind a lot of the NPCs, I also can't stand the slower leveling pace now that I've tried it with a reduced party so I tend to go for 3-5 characters anyway.

Good luck, USSNorway! What's wrong with this picture, you complain about Hanna's charisma of 5 yet you submit a character with a charisma of 4? It's also tough to believe a girl that looks like your character has a low charisma -- among males at least can't be lower than 15!

Imo young Hanna is much cuter than miss Renee’ but in game terms I see her lack of charisma as more of a cultural problem. Gabrielle is passionate about doing things the RIGHT WAY (natural) witch unfortunately others see as an amoral girl trying to push her religion in peoples faces & being a baul spawn doesn’t help matters besides feminine hygiene products are few and far between in the woods!

p.s. that's the way I rolled her up (first time) and I only moved two points from Charisma into Wisdom so she could dual right away...
Thanks for the luck...

Edit; Opps I did add a simple SCS install in because I feel this helps me justifly her over the top stats.

Embarrasingly, Erthallin died to the first wolf outside of Candlekeep. I knew he should have drunk a potion as soon as he took damage (I though, "it'll be embarrasing if he dies to this wolf"...) but he'd already dished out quite a bit of damage with his throwing daggers, and I got cocky I guess. I think I might try again; do I have to roll up a new character even though I only just started...?

The Misadventures of Arccos Tangent: Gnome, Thief, Illusionist.

i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/Chaseroy/Baldr006.jpg

The story so far...

After besting a couple of would be assassins, treating a cow, finding a book, recovering a sword, and returning a scroll, Arccos set out on the adventure of his gnome life. Soon beset by those who would see him dead, his aging mentor decided to fight a giant armored man, wielding a giant sword, with a knife. Not surprisingly, he died.

Fortunately, Imoen turned up and the two set out together. The general batle tactic was simple. Whoever had the attention of the enemy would run in circles whilst the other plucked away at the creature with a bow. In this way they made their way to the Friendly Arm Inn where they were joined by Khalid and Jaheira.

Now a foursome, the party headed south toward Nashkel. Creatures died, Imoen chirped, Khalid stuttered and Jaheira muttered things about mother earth or something all the way to Nashkel. There the party met up with a strange foreigner named Minsc. Even Jaheira couldn't deny the better meat-shield potential of this odd hamster wielding, somewhat touched, man. Soon Khalid found himself left behind a closed door as the newly reformed party headed west for a witch named Dynaheir.

They initially approached the gnoll stronghold from the north. Unfortunately, this path was populated by bears, ogres, and other large things and Arccos was forced to face up to the dangerous reality of his situation:

i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/Chaseroy/Baldr005.jpg

Once all were rested and healed the party tried an alternate route south from Nashkel then west toward the gnoll stronghold. This way proved much more amenable and, after much bloodshed on behalf of the occupants of the stronghold, Dynaheir was emancipated. Little does she know that there's a closed door out there waiting for her. Sadly, the party cap has been predetermined as four and we currently have our mage needs fulfilled by Arccos.

A short update, have finished the prologue, got the wand from Imoen, cleared the first map after candlekeep and done most of my availabale quests in Friendly arms inn and have begun my journey down towards Nashkel.

Since I dont have that much free time to do much computer gaming I will progress slowly

Good luck Chaseroy. I am doing a 4 man party myself in BG 2 (I had just recently took them through BG 1). I love the leveling speed of a 4 man -- gold seems to be a bit better too, as you are only spending money for spells/equipment for 4 rather than 6. Little bit easier to get everyone good weapons as well. My 4 man was a paladin, cleric, fighter (used mostly as an archer in BG 1 dualed to druid in BG 2) and a mage/thief.

@Oblivioneness - don't worry about your playing speed. You'll get to it when you get to it. And what matters is doing the no-reload successfully and having fun, it's not a race.

Good luck both.

Krap, CG male dwarven assassin. With a K, and dressed in pink.

Str 18
Dex 17
Con 19 (18 gives saves, 20 allows regeneration)
Int 11
Wis 9
Cha 9

* quarterstaff, * two handed weapon style. Going for poison backstabs (pb) to start with.

I hate ambushes. Gorion is dead from the first, I get badly wounded by a bandit arrow in a second. At least I've got some boots (stealth) from a hobgoblin so I can hide a bit more.

I seem to be missing my backstabs a lot at present so progress is slow.

I know ;)

I actually got the idea from reading your posts.

I've been lurking in this thread for a while. I have finally given in to the temptation to make my own run. I would have followed your crew to BG2 but I have yet to complete that game, believe it or not. Maybe Arccos will be the gnome to go all the way.

Speaking of, Arccos and co. ditched Dynaheir and headed out into the wild. The party is feeling a bit unfit, yet, for taking on the mines. If the Amnish military can't do it, how can they? Thus they are spending sometime wandering the coast looking for opportunities to practice cracking skulls.

With that in mind they felt well met by a big mouthed Amnish soldier named Sendai who was looking for a fight. Boy were they wrong! Sendai's archer buddies made quick work of Minsc and there was no option but retreat. The recovery of Minsc's gear should have been accompanied by the Benny Hill theme. The party had to scatter to draw Sendai and her henchmens' attention in all directions without engagment while Minsc ran (naked) to get his stuff. While doing so a pack of Xvarts joined in. It was mayhem that couldn't have been contained by a monitor twice the size of mine. My Starcraft skills were definitely tested as I jumped around across 4 screens running people around, healing and recovering items.

Once that was done, Arccos made a grand showing of his wisdom of 10 and decided to try once more. Cue Minsc death. Cue Benny Hill. This time I grabbed only the essentials -- Ankheg armor, infravison hat, and an unidentified magic halberd -- and split. We got back to Nashkel with a little less gear and a dead barbarian and I decided that was enough for the night.

Here's a tip: Save Sendai for AFTER the Nashkel mines. Then Minsc could have boots of avoidance which would help quite a bit.

I've had a no-reload end there, and also ton of close calls as well.

That's a good-looking dwarf you've got therePosted Image - hope she treats you well.  You probably know already, but just in case I'll mention that the game plays more smoothly as single-player than multi-player.  Once you've started you can just move or copy your saved game from mpssave folder to save folder and continue as single player.

I just looked away for a couple of days and there's suddenly a surge of activity!  Best of luck also to Gate70, The Fred, ussnorway, oblivionenss and Chaseroy.

The other thing you could do, which makes a huge difference, is get Sendai to run after you while she's trying to start a conversation.  Once she's safely away from the others she is easy meat as, without distance attacks, you can shoot her up at your leisure.  The other 2 are dangerous with missiles, but pretty weak in melee, so you should be able to finish them off quickly.

Hmm, I can't do that Grond0. The moment she sees any of my characters she talks. In my install at least, she doesn't "move" to talk.

Also when I say "Sendai" I am really referring to her group. And unless a tank is hasted, those archers can easily mow a tank down before he gets within range. I've had tanks with -4 AC get clobbered. But that same tank with boots of avoidance becomes nigh untouchable.
