Whenever I try to run NWN Tileset duplicator, I get an error saying:
"Run-time error 429

ActiveX component can't create object"

Likely due to you having an updated version of windows with increased security built in.

Windows 8.1 definitely has issues with this.

I was forced to REINSTALL the tileset duplicator, but to do so was a bit of a pain.  I had to extract the original .rar file to D:\Temp or C:\TEMP with nothing else located in that folder.  Then I had to set the setup.exe file to run in winxpsp3 compatibility mode ( I set default for ALL users just to be safe).  I then ran the install, and did NOT allow it to overwrite the dll files for windows I think the error message was something along the lines of a warning about keeping the file or using the new file, I kept the orginal windows file instead of allowing this ancient setup.exe to overwrite with outdated crap.

I did try to run the setup from any sub folder deeper than \temp and I would get errors and the setup could not find regsvr32, OR could not find the .cab file and a few other errors as well.

Anyway, once I reinstalled it from the d:\temp folder, it seems to work.  Again, your priviledges have to be high enough to allow the program to run.  I have already set my neverwinternights folder to give my user name FULL privs, because soo many of the nwn utils were not written to work inside of a restricted environment, and by setting the privs that way, I could get things working.  Be absolutely positive to work on a COPY of whatever original tileset you are attempting to duplicate as the duplicator needs to overwrite files during it's process and can cause damage to original files when it does things.

Windows 8.x is a real pain in the arse.

For those using gmax, the import scripts seemingly still work well.  I have had good success in particular with Wavefront .obj importer.  Although gmax already does .3ds import out of the box, there is also another importer listed on this page that may do some other/better things with importing.  I have not tried it.

I've updated CM3 slightly - to version 3.5.2. It's on the same neverwintervault download page as CM351.

It has better performance when welding verts and tverts in large meshes and there are some tweaks related to skin meshes, bones and robes. But it hasn't been so extensively tested so you might wish to install it in a separate folder from CM351 in case it breaks and you want to revert. The eight dll files have the same names as the ones in CM351 but they are different versions, so don't mix them up

There is a detailed change list on the download page and it's also bundled in the CM352 download. The user guide pdf is included again for completeness but it's identical to the one in the CM351 download so you don't need to read it all again.

Have fun

OMB

(edit) Make sure you have version 3.5.2b. If you were too quick and downloaded CM352 within the first few hours of it being uploaded, you will have received a buggy version (CM352a). Sorry about that.

Update to CleanModels 3.5.2

There was a bug in CM352b that sometimes prevented it from loading walkmeshes correctly from ascii model files. If you have downloaded CM352b, please throw it away and get version 3.5.2c from http://neverwinterva...er/cleanmodels3

Only the .exe file is different between the b and c versions; the bundled dll's and documentation files in the downloads are the same.

I've also uploaded the source code. It's written in Prolog, specifically for SWI-Prolog 7.1. You aren't expected to do anything with it (you can read it if you like, but it's been altered so many times that it's not very pretty), but I wanted to archive it somewhere.

Update again - 2014-05-09

Version cm352d fixes an obscure problem whereby, if a model had three or more trimesh nodes all with exactly the same name but the middle one had a different bitmap to the other two, using the Meshmerge-by-Bitmap option could result in the middle node being malformed on output.

Is there any tool to move models from its position?

I mean, I don't know modelling but I can scale models with the ObsidianSS scaler for example. I was wondering if there is any tool to just move the whole model as some of my models needs slight adjustments (a little bit to the back, a little bit to the left for example) so a tool like that would make my life really easier.

Thanks.

Gmax.  It's mostly identical to 3dsmax, but it's free.  If I recall, the main differences (besides price) are button placements on the UI, and the method of actually exporting the model back into an mdl file for use in the game.

It seems rather intimidating to use at first, but it's worth a few hours messing around with to be able to do minor adjustments such as placements and alignments.

I assume this is for the VFX's you mentioned in another thread.  Rolo's got "vfx templates" for both head aligned and torso aligned VFX's on the new vault that helps with adjusting the sizing and alignment of VFX's to the various racial/gender types.

For the casual user, GMax and similar tools aren't always the best solution. The learning curve is steep, and they are art tools, designed for people with manual dexterity rather than configuration skills.

A simple change of position for the entire model is easily achieved using the position statement in the highest node of the geometry hierarchy. You can add one if it doesn't already exist. For example,

beginmodelgeom zlc_s67a
node dummy zlc_s67a
  parent NULL
  #part-number 0
  position 0 0 0.75
endnode
If the model is compiled, you have to decompile it first, using nwnmdlcomp.

Obviously, complex modelling does require an art tool (and creative skill), but learning to make simple configuration changes is very empowering for the occasional tweaker.

That's what I did at the end and it worked very well. Using it with nwnexplorer to see orientation changes instantly is very fast. To see the position I needed to run NWN as they are models attached to the character, but once you know more or less the values you only need a few changes.

Before the death of old IGN vault, I managed to back up a few essentials here:

NWN Toolbox (Editor, Generator, Tool and Utility Collection)

The New Neverwinter Vault's "tool" category: http://neverwinterva...t/category/tool

and the "other" category (many tools as well): http://neverwinterva.../category/other

Here's another I just uploaded from Rolo's back-up, an SSF Editor.  Perhaps you could include it the toolbox compilation? Would be real handy to get your Jul 2 post's contents up into the OP somehow.  Is there any way to do that?

Working on the assumption that image manipulation can be important I have three links to add-ons. Two for the gimp and one for paint.net. First the gimp ones.

Gimp Paint studio is a large collection of pre-sets (brushes etc.) for the Gimp.

G'Mic is a large collection of filters bundled together into a single installer.

The paint.net link is to a list of plug-in/effects packs for that program.

Something old (but updated), something new and something to stop the air turning blue.

The old is Sigil. I linked to this a while ago. Well there is a new version, released just 3 days ago, that is a whole 0.1 version newer from 0.7.7 to 0.8.6 since I posted that link. This program is useful for documentation being a WYSIWYG editor for epub documents and now supports images embedded in said documents. There are versions available for Windows (Vista onwards) and Mac. It is available from GitHub here.

If (like me) you are lazy, the new program may be of use to you. It is called Splat (short for Simple Program Launching and Termination). It allows you to launch multiple programs at once just by pressing a keyboard shortcut. It also allows for configurable delays between each program being launched. So just thing - launch nwmax & gmax together or gimp, notepad++ and the toolset all at the same time. Also there is no install as it is portable, just extract from the archive into the folder of your choice and you are good to go. In fact the only drawback is finding the actual download link on this page (it is orange and says "Download: Splat.zip".

Finally the program to stop the air turning blue. OK, I'll hold my hands up at this point and admit that there is no direct connection between NwN and this program. If the moderators have a problem with that I will remove this whole paragraph including the link. I do tend to wander around the internet a lot and while I manage (cross fingers etc.) to avoid viruses I have not been so fortunate with PUPs (potentially unwanted programs ie spyware, adware etc.). The best thing I've found for getting rid of these (apart from never going online again) is AdwCleaner. There is new version that works faster and removes more junk than (including stealth search monitors) the old one did. The site for this is here. When I tested it earlier tonight it found and removed something called mysearch of which I was totally unaware.

Hope these are of use.

Just curious. Has anyone on here tried the free, (apparently) open source 3d modelling program "Misfit Model 3D"?

Unless you know of plug-ins for the programs in that list that let you export your models to NwNs model format, there is no point in including any of them. Of the 25 on that list only blender is of any use here.

Here is a new free and open source interesting paint program. Krita offers a lot of The Gimp possibilities packed in a lean and pleasant user interface. What's more, our GNU-Linux and OSX friends got some love too.

https://krita.org

Edit: you can find a lot of useful manuals, video tutorials and howtos at the same place. Looks like a very friendly paint software.

While not a tool I have come across a site that has some free resources. Psionic games has a link to a dropbox account with about 110mb of models, graphics and sounds that may or may not be useful. What I like about the stuff on there is that you have the choice to download the different bits individually or by clicking the blue download button you can download the lot as a single zip file.

Two tools have updates. Gimp is now up to version 2.8.16 (Link to Gimp User for easy download) and Artweaver Free is now up to version 5.

<edit>

Inkscape is now up to version 0.91 which for me was quite a jump as I was still using version 0.48!

I have just uploaded a simple tool to the vault. All it does is to remove unwanted space characters from plain text files (leading, trailing or both) such as 2da files and uncompiled models. It is called TrimEmAll and this link takes you to the project page.

Here's a couple of links to tools that are meant to be used with other tools. A few years back google bought a company that made professional quality filters for photoshop. These filters were priced at over $400 US just before the company was bought. When google bought the company google reduced the price to roughly a quarter of that. They have now made them entirely free. You can get the Nik Collection here.

Don't have access to photoshop? No worries, because there is a free tool for Paint.net. The 8bf filter plugin is available here. Essentially unce you have this installed you can use any of the standard photshop format filters with paint.net. So with this plugin you have access to 1000s more effects on top of the 100s of dedicated effects already available.
