that is the fact that they target males first. Hence why male Hawke is depicted, male Warden used in the trailers etc. Even the first few facts of the game that they released is sort of like "Don't worry, there is a hot chick" hence the unveiling of the inquisitor, potential teammate or not.

I empathize.  Believe me, I go through the same things and feel the same feelings.  It can be (and often is) very frustrating.

I'm also tired of the sibling villain trope. Hopefully she doesn't turn into an antagonist at some point.

I'm sure if she was going to turn on you at some point they would have given her a more villainous name than "Bethany."

Yeah, no.

Eh, Cassandra's role is really unknown at this point, and is not necessarily what you think.  Would you say that Ser Cauthrien fits the description of the "hot chick" in the secondary supporting role?  I'd say not really at all, and yet she was revealed early in marketing for DA:O.  Cassandra may be similar, a character who is seen, but doesn't interact with Hawke until nearly the end of the game, and then only to fight or argue with her.

And sisters are geared towards male players???  Posted Image

I just hope Bethany doesn't get killed off in the first five minutes.

Yes, and the Sacred Ashes trailer featured a female Warden. Oh, wait, it didn't. I don't want to debate it, its a fact that even the devs have admitted, that males make up the majority of the players and they are the first demographic they want to appeal to.

I created a thread criticizing the marketing of DA2 on the day this forum opened, so yes, I'm aware that they are marketing the game to men.  I don't agree, however that the simple fact that Hawke has a sister, or that Cassandra is female, makes them objects of sexual desire being advertised to men.

When we see pics of Bethany and Cassandra wearing a bikinis, then I'll be right there with you, however.

I would prefer if they gave you an LI and then had her become the main villain down the road. That would be pretty engaging as a story.

I just want the Darkspawn to look more in line with their Origins counterparts. So far, they look just ridiculous. Fourtunately, there's a good chance that they hardly play a role in DA2, similar to the geth in ME2. As for the rest of the graphics, all I got to say is: You better use the next 7 months wisely, BioWare.

We should have a massive female gaming support group. And organize boycotts and tea parties.

@Lucy - Oh, I agree. I'm sure Flemeth is a real person... or thing. And I believe the woman we met in Origins was the entity in its latest host. What I was trying to say is that since DA2 doesn't take place too long after DAO, the Flemeth we meet could be Morrigan using her name to capitalize on its infamy. She could get a lot more done if people thought she was the legendary Flemeth rather than an apostate mage few outside Ferelden are likely aware of.

Didn't you get the impression that Morrigan was kind of trying to avoid attention? if you take the Dark Promise path, she basically tells you that she's going to vanish and that you'll never see her again. If Loghain is the poor sacrifice, she also reassures him that she intends to leave Ferelden, never to be heard of again. That doesn't sound like someone who is desperate to bring attention on to herself by grabbing the name of a folklore celebrity like Flemeth.

NO! I don't want some preachy Big Sis type trying to tell me what is right and wrong. NPCs never know better. They just act like they do and it's really annoying when that happens.

How about a fraternal twin? Eh?

I remember someone quoting that we make up about 40 percent of the gaming demographic (hence, not as important). I felt like organizing a mass exodus so that they would see what it would feel like to have nearly half of their players gone. (But thats not about to happen, since I am lazy and its nearly impossible to pull off. And did I mention that I'm lazy?).

Only if that fraternal twin recognizes that the Protagonist always knows better. Seriously. NPCs never know better. This is why the "Slap Morrigan" mod was made. Because the dumb [not nice word] kept acting like she was the smartest thing on the planet and could make a better decision than you at ever turn. Even though all her suggestions were moronic.

It doesn't follow that an older sister will automatically be inclined towards preachiness.  Depending on their personality, an older sibling can come off as less mature than a younger one, actually.

You're right, but we're not talking about real people we're talking about video game characters. Tropes will rule the stables. And there's nothing particularly bad about that.

True that. The Winchester brothers from Supernatural are a good example.

Right, but in general I'm optimistic about this game (based on what BioWare has done in the past) and wouldn't assume that an older sister would automatically be annoying.Posted Image

Flemeth may not be able to do anything about it even if she already found a new host. She prefers to transfer herself into powerful blood daughters because it speeds the adjustment period. It's possible Flemeth would be weakened for an long duration if she is forced into a random person's body

This could be a convenient plot device to explain why Flemeth joins your party with limited abilities and starting at a low level, rather than being the ultimate magical badass like she is in Origins.

She stayed true to character and that was her personality.  I don't understand the animosity for a character to be portrayed as a character that is not of your control but is their own free agent.  If she simply annoyed you personally, then that's fair.  But I fail to see how she can be at fault for being her own character.

Then we would need a "Slap Big Sis" mod. Hilarity would insue. You know... maybe a big sis isn't such a terrible idea after all...

Don't get me wrong. I think Morigan was a remarkably well done character. It takes some fantastic writing to make you really hate a character. Heck, my PC even slept with her. But none of that changes that I wanted to slap the stupid out of her ever time she tried to offer a suggestion.

So a younger sister who only follows the main character around, always needs rescue and doesn't have her own opinion is better?

Kind of KOTOR-esque when Bastila goes to the Dark Side or Aribeth in NWN...

If the Warden was returning and romanced Morrigan I would have thought maybe they'd bring Morrigan back as an antagonist of sorts. Maybe they still will, but I doubt they'd make her a straight up villain. And the whole emotional engagement angle of bringing Morrigan back as a villain after being an LI in DAO is kind of pointless with a new PC...

Keep in mind DA2 spans a decade and we may not run into her in the first act. Also, things change. We have no idea what situation Morrigan might find herself in. She may need to come out of hiding for one reason or another. She may have planned things to go a certain way and lost control of the baby or decided to drop the name to intimidate or gain influence with certain people. I wasn't so much thinking that Morrigan would go around telling everyone she is Flemeth, as that would be reckless. Heck, even telling everyone she is  mage is risky. What I had in mind is she could go by Flemeth when it helps her goals to leave a certain impression. She's very familiar with how Flemeth thinks and acts, and that makes her well suited to emulate her as well.

Yeah, no.

I was thinking more along the lines of a one off encounter rather than the game's big bad.
