And that she's an OLDER sister.

NO! I don't want some preachy Big Sis type trying to tell me what is right and wrong. NPCs never know better. They just act like they do and it's really annoying when that happens.
<_<

So a younger sister who only follows the main character around, always needs rescue and doesn't have her own opinion is better?

I would probably enjoy it more. There is no better or worse, just what I would prefer.

Eh, Cassandra's role is really unknown at this point, and is not necessarily what you think.  Would you say that Ser Cauthrien fits the description of the "hot chick" in the secondary supporting role?  I'd say not really at all, and yet she was revealed early in marketing for DA:O.  Cassandra may be similar, a character who is seen, but doesn't interact with Hawke until nearly the end of the game, and then only to fight or argue with her.

And sisters are geared towards male players???  Posted Image

I just hope Bethany doesn't get killed off in the first five minutes.

Yes, and the Sacred Ashes trailer featured a female Warden. Oh, wait, it didn't. I don't want to debate it, its a fact that even the devs have admitted, that males make up the majority of the players and they are the first demographic they want to appeal to.

I created a thread criticizing the marketing of DA2 on the day this forum opened, so yes, I'm aware that they are marketing the game to men.  I don't agree, however that the simple fact that Hawke has a sister, or that Cassandra is female, makes them objects of sexual desire being advertised to men.

When we see pics of Bethany and Cassandra wearing a bikinis, then I'll be right there with you, however.

Its the set up for nearly every adventure.

1. Burly/handsome male protagonist? Check.

2. Hot female sidekick? Check. (Bikini or no)

3. Trusty sidekick who will provide comic relief and won't steal your thunder (the dwarf). Check.

The sister is an interesting mix, but like the old saying of "too many di*ks on the dancefloor" its more appealing to a male player to have less male leading characters.

In DA:O Alistair can be executed. Morrigan however, is untouchable. Hence, she is canon. (And also why she was designed to show as much skin as possible.)

My gawd people, it's entirely possible to include a sister in the companion list without her being a romance option. lol

What vile blasphemy is this?! Foul heretic, these are the BioWare boards where anything that moves is a potential lover.

Now some people will complain about not having the PoeTree as a romance option :P

These recent screenshots are shockingly awful. I'll reserve final judgement though until I see some gameplay videos further down the line and hope that the story and characters will be the usual Bioware standard and distract me from what I'm looking at.

Are the graphic "changes" being done to accommodate console performance?

That is the only reason I can see for the change, which looks markedly worse IMO.

You make it sound like Origins had great graphics, which it clearly did not. Plus PS3 and the 360 can pull off better graphics by far from what we have seen in DA2.

BTW, how will Hawke's sister work if Hawke himself is Asian, Latino or black?

I love the sister idea--sort of like the master-student thing I was hoping for, except its more as if she'll be looking up to her older bro/sis

Well can't say that's the final look by any stretch of the complaint imagination, Darkspawn do look abit S&M though O__o;

The humans look good though which is what's important, the sister apears to have *gasp* long hair that hangs down in front of her shoulder i believe, also like how her outfit is more padded out and loose like a proper robe instead of that weird spandex thing they had in DA1

Hawke as expected looks great, none of that caved in cheek deformities Bioware loves so much, hopefully this'll apply to all NPCs as well, blood splatter looks good, not seeing any on the charecters, wonder if it's just the phase of the graphics or if they droped that feature

I do like the concept of having a sister tag along, more so as i have sisters so i'll join in with hope'n she doesn't die at the start which would be epicly lame, though i thought Hawke was a child at lothering? either it took our DA1 wardens sevral years to finesh the blight unbeknownst to us or does DA2 pick up right after DA1?

DA2 doesn't care about "race," as races in the universe are dwarf, human, elf. Or your adopted.

Unless she is the expert and saves Hawkes life by sacrificing her own.

How bout she's your normal (albeit magical) action girl. She saves Hawke by kicking ass and living to tell the tale.
I want an action sibling that is not afraid to get a bit dusty in a fight. Even better, if she will try to outsnark Hawke if he ever tries to be snarky in her presssence.

It would be neat if they could have her hair, eye, and skin color be dependent on the choices you make in the character creator.  But they'll probably hand wave it, and you can pretend you have different fathers or were adopted or something.  A casual observer would say that I am "white" (I'm multiracial) and my mother (who gave birth to me) is "black", but our ethnicity is more complicated than that.

Sounds good to me. :)
I hope we'll get some info on companions soon.

That wasn't ever stated anywhere by the developers, it's just something people are speculating about.

I like the idea of the pc having a sister. It reminds me a little of Imoen in BG, having a companion that has grown up with you. I plan on being a mage so if she is a party companion it will be great. I wonder if we will be apostates running around......

I'm also really happy that mages will get finishing moves this time. I hope there are lots of possible npcs to join your party....I'm sure as it gets closer to release eventually Bioware will update their DA2 pages with descriptions of companions.

If that happens, I hope its later in the game. Not just a random death at the beginning where you end up being like...soooo, I don't have a tank?

Mage action girl? Interesting....though whenever I try to imagine it I think of a dwarf, which we all know is impossible. That's what dagna's for.

I hope this happens. If my Hawke has red hair and green eyes, I would like my sister to have red hair and green eyes as well.

You said you thought Hawke was a child, I pointed out that it wasn't confirmed.  I don't see how that's a waste of time, but if it was...

I don't care, that's your problem.

Yes, graphics will improve but not by a huge amount.

According to who? Let me guess, you?  Considering that they are using an existing engine, and the fact that the dev's have stated that this is an early pre-alpha release, it wouldn't be hard to improve the graphics by a fair margin.

Show my one case where graphics went from meh to great in less than a year. Do it!

Btw, where have they stated that these are pics from an early pre-alpha build? Link, please...

I already told you in another thread. Look up Final Fantasy 14 alpha/beta/release screenshots and footage. Then tell me graphics cant change in less then a year.

Alpha was in april, game launches in september btw.

There goes my hopes of Hawke not having any family ties. Now all I can picture is the hobo family. The mage's clothes still look roughly the same from behind, I'm sure there will be other meshes besides the ones created in DA:O.
