I can't help but wonder if BioEA is trying to compete with the Witcher by going to the single player character model in DA2.

i bought the witcher about a month ago and haven't played it for a while, but i NEED to beat it! it'll be the first game i've beaten that's not a bioware game. i've been in a bioware game streak... i beat kotor 2, ME, DA, (working on ME:2), and these really are the last games i've ever beaten! i guess i just love to play multiplayer games, where the game doesn't end
hehe

I don't think Bioware feel they have to compete with it, but if they want to take a few things from it, then brilliant, it was a great game!
Hopefully this 10 year time period will see our actions have the sort of long-term implications that they had in The Witcher.
That said, I don't see what the single player character model has to do with DA2 and The Witcher. A player character is a player character is a player character. Lots of games have them!

If there's one thing in the Witcher I don't like, it's the lack of customization for my player character. That said, the Witcher does a lot of things right that DA 1 didn't. Spoken side quests instead of text boxes, larger and more detailed levels, a much more believable world, lots of information in a neat codex, you name it. If they would take that and add it to the things that DA did better (presentation of story, character development, romances), it could be an almost perfect game.
I won't hold my breath though, not after ME 2.

i also don't like that "the witcher" didn't have much customization. but you know... it ain't like an MMO/has any multiplayer where you can SHOW OFF your character

Witcher has very limited choices and consquences.
There are totally about 10 "choose between A and B" choices in game.

While the witcher does have limited choices I really like the consequence...just because you help someone doesn't mean it is a good thing. I hope it does have that witcher feeling theres no good or evil, but choices the way you see the choices you made is up to you.
I'm getting bored of being the knight in shining armor/evil badass.

It was stated in a video from E3 that the Witcher 2 would have a lot more customization. I think it was Gamespot's walkthrough.

Why would Bioware compete with The Witcher? Dragon Age sold more copies! I seriously doubt Bioware is worried about a company that is not as financially successful as they are.

Not really about DA2. Also, DAO was also a single-player game.
End of line.
