I've been eyeing NWN2 for the longest time (years really) but always get sidetracked by a different game (last sidetrack, the witcher) but now I'm pretty much RPG'd out so I have no excuse to not check it out. However before I make my final decision I have 2 questions that I figure the people here could answer
1) I've only seen previews/screenshots of the game in a top down mode which I (for reasons I cannot explain) cannot stand unless its in an RTS. So does NWN2 support an OTS mode as well as its top view or is it strictly top view?
2)Which edition would be best to get? I would rather get the one with all the official expansions included so if I could be pointed in the right direction I would appreciate it
Yea, not game breaking questions as you may notice, but the top down view really does kill it for me and if I'm going to get this game I might as well get the whole package.
thanks in advance

1) Once patched, there is an OTS mode available. I'm not sure how workable it is since I don't use it myself though. The way I tend to do it is just control the camera with the middle mouse button myself (hold the button down and you can spin the camera around).
2) I don't think a complete bundle has been released. NWN2 and the first expansion (Mask of the Betrayer) has been bundled as NWN2 gold I believe. But as far as I know, you have to get the second expansion Storm of Zehir separately if you want it. Also, Mysteries of Westgate (which is like a mix between DLC and full-on expansion) is only available as a digital download.

ah thank you
I've seen Diamond Edition which has both Mask and Storm so I figure that'll do nicely, I'll follow up on mysteries after.
much appreciated

Oh cool, never realized there actually was a Diamond Edition.
Hope you enjoy! Also, if you get the games, the recommended order to do things is:
1. Install NWN2, Mask and Storm
2. Run autopatcher

I've only recently purchased NWN2 and have no problems with different views and the camera, though a little bit fiddly at first. There are 3 camera modes you can use and you can also zoom in/out, with one mode showing full perspective of the landscape.

There are 3 views, but OTS is actually a behind the player view. I've moved the camera height up a tiny bit so if you zoom in it's almost first person. ( This is from a content pack on the vault that is a bit out of date, but it's implemented in my monster pack )
The big problem is you have so many options as well for each of the three modes, and the defaults tend to be kind of irritating initially, but if you invest some time and figure out how to configure things it can be tailored to quite a few different camera styles.
Since it's a RPG where you control 3-5 characters toggling between character and exploration mode is very useful, other games just don't have a need for this type of view to begin with.

I just use the pause to toggle the characters, the top down makes it impossible to feel like you're in the char's shoes (for me)

If you look over on the NWN2 Wiki, I believe there's a list of setting changes you can make to the camera modes to turn them into a strong resemblance of the standard NWN camera.
And yes, patching fully to v1.23 gives you a lot in addition to more camera control. Highly suggested.

I never get why people need to have the camera in the eyes of the Player Character or in some kind of driving mode right behind your character. Maybe I'm oldschool...
As it is an RPG it is a lot better to have it top down. You can see your fellow adventurers and what they write for example...yes I know...in games like WoW there is no need for that...but in NWN...that is the beauty...

Well, the good thing is there are three camera modes and all can be configured to behave somewhat differently. So, with a bit of fiddling around, most anyone should be able to find the setup that works for them.
Personally, I switch back and forth between all three camera types, depending on situation... I find some are better for interiors and others suit me for exteriors.

I always use Exploration Mode. I don't find the need to use other modes.
