Can anyone shed light on the rough numbers going into DA2?. From my understanding, bioware is also making a new starwars RPG.  How are the resources allocated (assuming  the same branch is making both games). With dragon age being biosware's most successful game, can we expect a massive budget going into dragon age 2?. Just a bit concerned after i read somewhere that the old republic is receiving huge funds.

EA aren't fully funding TOR themselves as it's a joint project between them and LucasArts. Anyway around 50-75 million sounds logical.

So 50-75 million lost by next year then...Man EA is setting themselves up to be screwed.  (There's no way in hell, no matter how good it is, that TOR will unseat WoW or even put a dent in it.  WoW players invest absurd amounts of time into that game, and frankly, its an unfortunate likelyhood that Bioware will underestimate the amount of end game content they need to start with.)

Games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect cost around $25+ million to develop, while Star Wars: The Old Republic is approaching (or is already past) $100 million.

SWTOR is from a different branch - Bioware Austin as opposed as the original Edmonton branch. I believe it's mostly a new development team, but some of the Edmonton staff were moved there to help on it.

Posted Image  Does EA even look at the sales chart?

Dragon age origins is the most successful game(in terms of sales) bioware has ever made and now a new starwars game gets more funding?.

Is TOR the MMO game?  If so, of course it gets more funding - those things charge subscriptions fees.

I don't know where you got that notion. They will make truck loads of money with TOR, and they know it. They also know how to milk it for all its worth. It's not rocket science after all, WoW showed the way.

Developers don't discuss money when a game is in works, usually. Only the big heads of companies are allowed to do that, I think.

I'm sure TOR is getting almost all of the funding. If its done right and actually does what its supposed to do (take subs away from wow) the payoff would be ...unreal. Honestly I believe that TOR was the sole reason for the EA merger.

I'm curious about all that internal development stuff, but so long as the game I'm playing is just as good if not better than Origins, I don't care how much or how little money went into it.

Sorry, but this is the kind of internal business that cannot and will not be revealed to the public. You'll just have to keep jumping toy our own conclusions in private. sorry.
