I have had this game for 7 months now and it was fine, running smoothly in all my playthroughs. Recently, every 10 or so minutes the game runs extremely slow and is almost unplayable. This has never happened before. I usually wait 10-15 minutes and it's fine, only to have it run slow again. This problem occurs in all of my characters. The cpu usage is fine, and I can't find any other causes. Please help for this is very frustrating.
Also I have tried rebooting the computer and restarting the game, to no avail. I do not have patch 1.02 or 1.03 downloaded, if that helps.

What you describe is overheating, throttling back to cool down, then overheating again when it speeds up again.  There is no support for laptops officially, and that sort of foolishness is a large part of that objection.  They cannot cool themselves adequately.  Get temperature monitoring software, but it needs a major cleaning, immediately.

Is this problem only for laptops? Because I have a desktop.

When the CPU is overheated, it will cycle to protect itself, no matter what the platform.  It just takes much more neglect of regular cleaning, or longer wear on the cooling fan bearings, before it starts happening on a desktop PC.

Im having the same trouble since 2 days, game unplayable. Desktop computer. Not sure what has happened but these 3 things started recently :

1. I have to start the dragonage updater manually every time i start (and restart) DA:O. Never had to do this a single time before despite i have all DLC's

2. Sudden extreme slowdowns almost always resulting in a CTD

3. CTD when casting frost spells

Now strange part is i have *not changed my system, *not installed any software, and *no viruses. I run my other games including MW2 *flawlessly.

Is there a secret update serverwise or such that has strated this, i simply don't belive this jsut comes out of the blue. Mind i have run through the game both origins and awakening twice and i can't rememer it crashed even once earlier..

So does starting the dragonage updater manually stop the lag? And if so, what is the dragonage updater? Also, what does CTD mean? A crash?

Because it takes so much more disrespect of the system before a CPU cooler gets so terribly clogged up, my article on overheating concentrates on the GPU.  Have you CLEANED UP yet?

so do you think that I should move my pc away from the wall?-for it is rather close. And would having a fan blowing on it cool it down?

If you read my article, you already know that to be true.  If the CPU cooler has been cleaned, but isn't doing the job, replace the fan on the CPU cooler with a more efficient, newer part.

Keep a computer in a clean environment, and you do not need to open things up anywhere near as often to clean it out. I prefer prevention over cure....

My old computer never needed openning up after build for cleaning and it lasted over two years before being semi-retired. My current one has had one "overhaul and clean" so far.

Well I pulled the pc out of the corner and had a fan running while it was off, and then I was able to play for over half an hour until it lagged again. It might not have solved the problem, but it helped. Thanks

One of the largest contributors of "dust" in any habitat is the human epidermis.  We are constantly shedding dead skin cells, and it would require extremely frequent bathing, and dermal treatments, to come close to eliminating this.  However, these are fairly sizable particles (tyopically several cells in microscopic clumps) that simple filters can exclude.  Domestic animals are living a comparatively accelerated life compared to ours, and a couple of small pet dogs can generate about the same amount of skin debris as an average human.

When it comes to hair, once again, that is very easily filtered, but all pets shed some hair, some more than others

I think that cats may recycle a slight amount of their own dead dermal cell production, while contributing a greater  level of hair shedding than a couple opf humans added together.

Updating: After installing vista SP2 and all win updates (ehm) many CTD's (crash to desktop) dissapeared, game is playable but first i had to set DAO content uploader on autostart, run game as admin, and disable upload screens+autosave. Yet it crashes every 20-30 minutes and never on same occation, it can be opening a chest, taking a turn, pressing escape to avoid movies etc. BUT my bad not to have installed sp2 ehh  Performance increased significally after win update though..
