So I'm encountering the well known lag problem. I can play it normally and out of nowhere it sometimes starts to lag. I just have to press Esc and wait like 5-10 minutes before I can play it again.

here are my specs:

Windows xp
BIOS:  Phoenix - AwardsBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X@ Dual Core processor 3800+
3070MB RAM
I also have a ATI Radeon HD 5700 video card installed.
All my drivers are updated.

I don't see why I can't play this game. I was able to play Mass effect 1. I can play dungeons origins, Batman Archam Asylum etc etc etc.
I finished Mass effect 2 being very patient and waiting through all the lag spikes, but this is really killing the mood for me.

Is my pc not good enough, or can I do some sort of magic trick so It'll start working?
Please help me out guys :)

Thanks in advance!

I actually fixed this myself by pressing Alt-Tab while playing. Opening the Windows taskmanager Ctrl+Alt+Del finding the mass effect 2 task, right clicking it to see it's process.

I've set the priority of the process from normal to high.

The lag is now completely gone.

for some reason my pc wasn't using all of it's awesome power :P

a well now it works like a charm :)

More likely something else was using part of its awesome power. :)

If you want to avoid having to set the priority every time, you might want to clean out your startup programs & other background processes.

That did it Hoekzema! I've been trying to figure out the issue ever since the release, and this has finally fixed the frame rate issues for me. Just completed Horizon with absolutely no issues. We need to spread the word to everyone that's been having trouble because I bet this would help a lot of frustrated players.

Thanks for replying with your solution. I played ME2 when it came out with zero problems and no issues with fraps. Came back after four months, grabbed all the DLCs that came out in the meantime for a fresh game, and every time I took a screenshot with fraps, the game was jerking and lagging and my CPU was insanely maxed out. I couldn't figure out why so I reformatted my computer and reinstalled ME2. Situation remained the same. Was trying to figure out if a DLC or patch was causing this when I found this thread and changed the task manager priority. It's MUCH better. Not perfect, but I can now take screenshots again without the stuttering.
