Will the general "tone" of DA2 be any different than DA1?

For example, ME2 was darker, grittier, less epic, and more companion focused then ME1.  Will we see any changes in the general atmosphere for DA2?

Possibly, it is after all not focused on the Blight anymore or the Grey Wardens.

It will probably have a different "feel" to it but I can't escape the idea that this is nothing more than ME transplanted to the dark ages.

BioWare might try to make the second game at least a little darker considering the fact that they want the Dragon Age series to be a dark fantasy.

Then why the hell have all the screenshots (all four of them granted, but still) we've seen so far had darkspawn in them?

Possibly so they don't need to reveal who any other enemies/monsters are? Or maybe these are screenshots from the early part of the game, in Lothering, again to avoid spoilers?

I hope its darker. I mean, DA:O was supposed to be a dark fantasy, and look how that turned out.

If there were only going to use darkspawn in Lothering, they wouldn't have completely redesigned them, just given them enhanced textures to fit in with the rest of the graphics.

Dragon Age was still kind of dark being able to screw people over so hardcore and all. I'm expecting DA2 to be MUCH more darker.

This time the story is a framed narrative (told by more than one narrator) and is, supposedly, more personal.

I thought ME2 was more epic than the original. The assault on the Collector Base was the only time a game has ever made me have heart palpitations, and the music and cinematics of the finale were pure epicsauce.

Running up the citadel towards the ominous figure of Soverign, fighting through an army of Geth, as the citadel feet battled it out with the geth outside wasn't pure epicsauce.

I have a feeling Dark Spawn will be in virtually all future DA games.  There may not be a blight, there may not be any grey wardens, and Dark Spawn may not even be the main villains but they'll come back now and then

True, but ME2 felt as if you were trying to save the world in secret.  in ME1 it felt as if the entire galaxy was watching

BTW, im not implying that less epic = worse.  It's not and it highly depends on the story.  ME2, IMO, was vastly far superior than ME1 in nearly every regard.  The ME2 bashing from on this forum is in the small, small minority of all ME players

This. The first game was, perhaps, a tad too light hearted at times. Especially considering there was a Blight consuming the lands. On the plus side, it was genuinely funny.

I thought DAO had a fine balance of dark weight and light-heartedness too it. That said, I would like to see Bioware explore more shades of grey, which seemed to be hinted at in Origins.

I cannot wait for a more refined Dragon Age.

Some moral ambiguity would be nice. It's easy to fight the darkspawn, they are (mostly) mindless killers. Fighting an opposing faction with decent human beings would be much more difficult.
