Maybe I'm being a bit thick here (I quite often am  ) but I don't see any means of pm'ing from within these forums. Actually I haven't figured out to pm here at all yet. Cest la vie.

While we're at it what's the point of a "what's new" that doesn't tell you there are updates to the threads you've subscribed to.

Also what's the point of a "my content/forums" that doesn't link to the forums you're interested in but instead just takes you to the top of the list of all forums.

What's the point of having a fancy text editor that underlines mis-spelled words in red yet when you right click on it the context menu only offers you cut/copy/paste (at least in opera). Actually they could make the editor more opera friendly all-round.

Personal gripe. When are they going to change the French flag to a Canadian one as Canada has 2 official languages, English and French . If they can put the originating countries flags for the for the rest of the language choices why insult the British by not affording us the same curtesy?

Why does making even the most minor edit of your signature lead to the loss of any colour information that you have previously carefully selected?

And why is my carefully selected avatar vertically squashed even when there is plenty of room next to my posts?

That is because the new generation of webb development tools where made by geeks and the users are not supposed to be human...

Well...maybe thats a bit harsh...lets give it some time...hmmm

Click on the user's profile picture that you want to send a message to. When their profile loads, there is an option right under their avatar Send Message. You can also just use the left menu tab.

Messages - Compose New Message.

This only tells you what activity your friends have been making or just in general depending on what Network you are part of or have selected. The default TAB is My Friends. You can tweek what is displayed to you by selecting Filters.

Also what's the point of a "my content/forums" that doesn't link to the forums you're interested in but instead just takes you to the top of the list of all forums.

To view your subscribed threads, use the Jump to: above. Currently it is selected to the default Forum Home. Change it to Subscribed Topics and those threads will be listed.

What are you expecting it to do? I think the purpose of the mis-spelled words is to simply alert you to errors, not fix them for you.

FP!

I just got my first PM from a charming lady who likes my profile and is offering to send me pictures when I give her my e-mail address! Never had that happen to me on the old forum! I guess this is what social is all about, right? I'm finally popular and loved by people who don't even know me! Woo-hoo!

;)

And to get back on topic, I learned how to report spam and block people today, those are some useful new functions!

That's what obstacles are for: to be overcome, aren't they?  I'm sorry, I was just kidding the whole time. Just my way to express a quick but true sadness, seeing the ol'gamers nest flying away...I'm not a past type of guy. No sorrows, but memories.

olivier leroux wrote...Yesterday there wasn't even a jmlzemaggo here, just figure how we must have felt!

I don't know, you tell me:Free? Relieved? :P

Glad to be here, in such a nice company, just like before. And maybe just a bit closer to the future.

Problem here!
I can easily use my spelling corrector (french here = :alien:) directly into that "Quick Reply" window, but not within the "standard form" one.

Also, when we're finished editing a message, it would be nice to be sent back near that very message and not to the first page of the thread.

And please could you turn this "Modified 3 minutes ago..." most annoying spy off?

Thanks, great work so far.

If you're running Firefox, get the Fire Gestures plugin. Makes things like that an absolute breeze (hold the right button, flick left and up, you jump to the top of the page). It'll make your browsing a whole lot more efficient as soon as you get used to it. :)

Thanks for the tip on FireGestures, peachy; I'm loving this extension now!

I just wish these forums had a quick way to see when there are new posts, such as the different colored icons back on the Bioboards.<_<

Fester what I was on about with the editor was that  it has all these modern fancy doo-dads yet it can't do the spell-checking properly unlike the old boards editor. Not only that but the spell-checking works properly on the quick reply panel at the bottom of this page. There is only one possible conclusion and that is that the main editor is broken but in a just usable way. As it appears to be the same editor that is used for editing signatures that would explain the annoying behaviour there as well.

How about pulling over the old "Joined On" dates from the original boards for those of us who were there?
A small item to be sure, but a good way to keep a sense of long time community.

Seconded! I think that would be most appropriate. For now, I have my original joined 'date' in my profile bio. Six strong and memorable years, and for others, even longer. :)

I guess that's connected to the fact that we now have two forums that seem to invite server advertisements, "Ye Olde Tavern" and" PW & Multiplayer", while none of them explicitly invites talk about server administration, as stated in this thread. The new "PW & Multiplayer" might have been introduced to make things a little clearer and less confusing but so far I find the effect quite the opposite.

I think what this forum needs to change to make it better than the old one is to find better forum names than the old one had and also than this new one here currently has; names that are unambiguos and comprehensible even to people who are new to the forums and community.

Instead of
NWN 1 Modules
NWN 1 Guilds & Registry: Ye Olde Tavern
NWN 1 Persistant Worlds & Multiplayer

we could have, for example
NWN 1 Single Player Modules
NWN 1 Persistent Worlds & Multiplayer: Ye Olde Tavern
NWN 1 Server Admin
(and maybe, if still desired, NWN 1 Guilds).

That's just one suggestion and maybe there are still better solutions and also differing opinions on the topic but the important bit is to acknowledge that we've got the opportunity to make changes to the better NOW while the forums are still new. I think we should get together and discuss it and start a poll or something because if we manage to get a vote on it by the whole community, we might be able to convince the moderators / BioWare to give us those forums we actually need and with such names that we don't have to keep struggling with misplaced threads that clutter the wrong forums.

Any opinions or suggestions on that?

Seconded. I was focusing on modules question and didn't mention different forums for general CC and CEP because it was already brought up earlier in this thread but I'm definitely in favor of that, too.

CEP does not need its own forum, as CEP topics come up in all forums eventualy, as the Bio-boards proved. CEP is community made custom content. It is no more or less special than Project Q, or CTP, or CMP. Yes loads of people use it as it has become "Standardized" however it does not require its own thread/forum as any questions, comments or snide remarks fit within the custom content genre of the current thread.
Oliver is right, there should be a SP mod topic, as well as an Admin topic for Running multi-player.

Bah! The Send Message opens a window that is TOO SMALL for me! That is, I cannot get to the Submit button, because it is not in the window opened for the PM!

What a PIA!

Personally, I'd like the ability for quote-boxes to include time and date information from the original post they quote (like they did on the old forums). It made finding the context of the original quote much easier, thus facilitating better discussion.

Even better would be if quote-boxes linked back to the original post they quote...

OK, just a thought but how difficult would it be for the tech guys for this site to change the forums front page in the following way. Add expand all, collapse all links and plus signs that change to minus signs on each major forum heading (e.g. DAO, Mass Effect, NWN 2, NWN etc.) to allow individual forum types (as previously mentioned) to be open/closed. Then add a single machine word to a users stored profile, for flags to indicate which ones each person has open/closed normally.

Another thought how about a fully signposted entry in the FAQ explaining what all icons on the forum pages actually mean. It's hard enough finding the faq in the first place, they could at least make it relevant.

Well met.

Tarot, just thought I would jump in and say how much your new chosen avatar suits you. A better character and expression you could not have picked. Glad to see you made it to the boards and didn't have a terrible accident on the way.

Blessings.

I want to bump this one up as Avatar personalization is something that makes forum less boring and gives identity (albeit electronic) to its members.  Even if we can link our avatars to third party site, should BW lack desire to host them, it would be still much better than current avatar policy...
