Considering the recent announcement of DA2, and the information stating they're going into a whole new story, is it likely that this card, found in Awakening, is actually the 2nd expansion to DA?  Will it bridge the apparent gap between your current PC and the new story?

I'm inclined to believe that it is.  First, many have speculated that it's a new BioWare game, but the card clearly refers to the DA universe (See:  large red dragon indicative of previous DA marketing), so any alternate theories, in my opinion, can be rejected.  It's suggesting more Dragon Age content.  Period.  And I will go so far as to say they wouldn't have been so bold, or spent the time/money, of placing such a teaser into a game package-- an expansion game package, unless it were a solid date they meant to stick by.  But for what, then?

While I realize forum moderators don't support release date speculation on DA2, it's widely believed DA2 won't be ready by Feb, so this card cannot be referring to DA2.  It's also been stated that there is more content being released for DAO before DA2.

Finally, there is a trend lately to release 2 full expansions to successful RPGs.  Neverwinter Nights had Shadows of Undrentide and Hoards of the Underdark.  Neverwinter Nights 2 had Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir.

I firmly believe that this card refers to the 2nd and final full expansion of Dragon Age Origins to be released between now and DA2.  It probably will include a full import of your DAO PC and set a concluding saga to your character, which in my opinion, needs to end with either heroic death (again, for some) or The Calling.  More importantly, it will set the stage for DA2 and answer many questions we currently have regarding the story and plot to be expected.

The story of your current PC is not over, folks.

DA2 is coming out sometime in march right? I thought that was confirmed?

Regardless, if the flier doesn't mean DA2, I honestly hope it does mean an expansion. But more than likely it'll be the crappy anime.

I bet that was the original DA 2 release date, which they then postponed.

Because Feburary has been confirmed in a post by Gaider or Priesty for Dragon Age 2.

This. Or perhaps the release date for that DA-anime movie.

...though personally I'm hoping for a Morrigan expansion to DA:O.

I'd be ecstatic if its a final expansion to Orgins which gives some closure to the Warden and some of the various loose ends to Origins. I'd only hope its an expansion in the mold of Throne of Bhaal and not Awakening.

That said, I'm not sure the 2/1/2011 date is an expansion. It certainly isn't DA2 as EA has stated thats scheduled for a March 2011 release.  It could just as likely be the anime as it could be another installment for Origins.

I'm hoping Morrigan and OGB get a whole game for themselves, preferabley as OGB as the Big Bad or the protagonist.

(DR looks as if its getting canonized.)

I am convinced that they are not going to waste Morrigans story in some expansion, not after how they built it in DA:O. That's only my opinion, but i honestly believe Morrigan to be a important part of the coming DA games, not expansion packs.

Who knows, maybe it's a HUGE DLC which ends the warden's story.

One should always be an optimist.

for there to be an expansion, there has to be people to work on it. aren't the dao and daa people all workign on da2? who would be working on an expansion? i'd love to see another one, but i'm doubtful. dlc team is different. i think the daa team was a tiny subset of the original dev team for dao. would using a whole other rgoup not used to da be wise? would taking manpower from da2 to work on an expansion be wise? not so sure with a 3/2011 release.

Wouldn't an expansion be the same as a huge DLC?

While I'd like to steer this thread away from release date speculation (and thus, a thread lock), I would say that the nuts and bolts of the game system are already put together, and it would be simply coming up with a story and content with a few new creative design elements. With that said, you wouldn't need as many people working on a sequel or expansion as you would for the original game, when everything from the universe to the game engine, was new.

Therefore, it would be relatively painless to divide a team long enough to both work on a full expansion AND develop DA2-- with a few whippings along the way to keep them working.

The need for whippings might explain why the sequel moved away from Ferelden. Slavery's outlawed there, after all.

The target release date for the game is in March, the card more then likely represents the anime project they talked about.

Honestly their was an expansion that ended with their calling I'd be thrilled. I have always advocated a new protagonist for DA2 so it would be a nice conclusion to the Warden's story. The ultimate fate of the God Child and Morrigan would also be nice. It won't happen though. As has been said, it's probably the sodding anime nonsense.

I'd imagine that if I'm wrong about the expansion, there will be a cryptic BioWare response to that effect in this thread at some point.

There's nothing else it could be. The only thing listed on EA's financial roadmap was the unnamed Dragon Age project in their FY Q4 and that's already been confirmed as DA2. A retail expansion would have had a large enough cost and a return to warrant alerting their investors of, since there was nothing listed don't expect one to come.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the release date for the anime. However I'd be nice if it were an Origins expansion dealing with the God Baby.

I'd rather my Warden were able to deal with the God Baby story, rather than it being part of the DA2 plot, not only because that was part of my Warden's story, but 1) Because if the God Baby turns out to be a bad guy, I'd want a really good reason why my Warden was unable to take up the fight against it, and 2) If Morrigan were suddenly big news in the world, Wardens that were interested in finding her should be given that chance.
